Appearance Beatrice gathers much of her appearance from her mothers side of the family. A short build with fair skin, she is an exact replica of her Nan - except for the long, curly, red hair. That she gained from her father. Accompanying the hair colour is the light dusting of freckles. Long eyelashes frame chocolate brown eyes, tied together with a dainty nose and heart-shaped lips. All are set in an oval shaped face.

Style A lover of lace and linen. Beatrice embodies a possibly antiquited view about dressing, that one should always look their best. Stemming from her Nan, she is a lover of skirts and blouses, although pants are sometimes worn when at home on Comrie Farm. She particularly loves the Edwardian period, with their high collars and hats. When out and about, you would be amiss to see her hair not braided and without a hat atop her head. She loves to wear natural fabrics: cotton, linen and wool, usually adorned with ruffles, pleats or patterns.

Personality Lovable and fiercely loyal, Beatrice enjoys meeting new people and engaging in conversation. Smiling is in her very nature and she tries to radiate warmth wherever she goes. Although not one for small talk, she adores deep conversations especially on topics she is interested in such as herbology and duelling. Competitive and quick to temper, some may say her red hair is a judge of too much spirit. She is easy to trust, and although she's had some setbacks, she stands by giving people the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise. Just don't double cross her because she will remember.

Pear Wood

"Pear produces a golden-toned wood that is known for its splendid magical powers as well as being very resilient. Contrary to many other woods, pear wands will look remarkably new even after many years of hard use.

Similar to applewood wands, the masters of pear wands are usually popular and well-respected among others. These wands dislike the Dark Arts, and even the Ollivanders couldn't remember a single instance where a pear wand was discovered in the possession of a Dark witch or wizard. Where applewood has an affinity for communicating with magical creatures however, pear wand owners tend to have a talent for working with magical plants and herbs."

Phoenix Feather Core

"This was one of the rarest core types. Phoenix feathers were capable of the greatest range of magic, though they may have taken longer than either unicorn hair or dragon heartstring cores to reveal this. They showed the most initiative, sometimes acting of their own accord, a quality that many witches and wizards disliked.

Phoenix feather wands were always the pickiest when it comes to potential owners, for the creature from which they are taken was one of the most independent and detached in the world. These wands were the hardest to tame and to personalize, and their allegiance was usually hard-won.

Made by Garrick Ollivander, these wands are the rarest type of wand core. They have the ability to produce the greatest range of magic and are known to act of their own accord, a trait that many witches and wizards are not fond of. Phoenix core wands are also known to be the most finicky when choosing their wizard and can be difficult to master. These wands are often attracted to enduring or stubborn wizards."

27.1cm and Bendy

The adaptability of the wand, and the user, is said to be bendy - perfect for wizards who are able to stick with their own convictions and are brave enough to be themselves.

Its length is medium, perhaps owing to the personality of the owner. It like to keep equilibrium, not prone to great dramatics or precise casting. It is steady in its casting.

Pre-Hogwarts

Born early to Angus Langstreth and Penelope Langstreth (nee. Menzies), Beatrice is a child of two worlds. Her father is a muggle, hailing from Salford, England and her mother is a pureblood witch from Ellon, Scotland. Along with Beatrices younger sister Ella, the family live a happy, magical but muggle existence together.

The family live together at Comrie Farm, the newer ancestral home of this sect of the Menzies family. Bought generations ago by Beatrices great-grandfather after an argument about the direction of the Menzies magical line, he moved the family to Aberdeenshire, specifically Ellon, Scotland. There he set up a sheep farm, which has now been passed down through the generations and turned into a goat farm. Beatrice spends much of her time helping around the farm and exploring the countryside with her sister.

Beatrice has always been enamoured with her parents story. Having met in London during the Spring of 2003, it was love at first sight for the Langstreth man. He was there for study at university, whilst she was working with the Ministry of Magic although he wasn't to know that. He saw her through a bookshop window, gathering tomes on a weird subject - goats. He adored Penelope, seeking her out and sought to gain her affection, asking her to lunch constantly. Intially opposed to the idea, she relented after coming to know Aaron and their shared interests on agriculture, farming and family life. It was only after they married in 2007 that Penelope revealed she and her family were magical and she was a witch. It was disconcerting for Aaron at first, but nevertheless he loved Penelope and wanted a life with her. The new couple originally lived in Aberdeen, but moved in with Penelopes' mother shortly after her husband died. It was there that Penelope gave birth to Beatrice, soon followed by Ella.

Poe Menzies shared her deceased husbands views that muggles and wizarding folk should not mix. She was severely disappointed in her youngest daughter marrying and having children with a muggle. She held court at her home and took great care to teach her grandchildren about the magical world, ignoring most of what their muggle father has to teach them. She was a respected botanist and although not wealthy or famed, she was well-liked in society and around Ellon.

The Langstreths are a solicitous family from Salford, England. Farmers turned businessmen, they were severely disappointed in Aaron marrying a girl from a nothing-family whose own family was farmers. They felt it was a step backwards for Aaron and their own bloodline, having risen above working the land during the early 1900's.

Even with the prejudice surrounding them, Aaron and Penelope do not care. They seek to raise their children up with both cultures, and expect that the girls would be accepting of anyone, no matter their blood and class status.

First Instance of Magic

It was raining. For the third time this week. Nan had decided that she was going to take the dogs out into the muddy and wet fields today, gathering the pesky goats from their grassy hills. She had offered to take Bea, but from the gray clouds skimming the sky, Bea could tell the weather wouldn't let up.

"No thanks Nan. I'll go read inside today," the pint-sized girl said, shaking her ringlets free from the wintery drops. She should have worn a hat like Ma said. All well. She would just sit in front of the library fire longer!

Nan nodded. "Just remember to feed the chooks and collect the eggs before I get back. I want to make a cake for your Ma when I do." Beatrice nodded in response, already counting the steps inside to the library.

Having gotten inside, Beatrice was glad to see that the library was unoccupied. No meddling little sister or Da doing paperwork. She could read for hours! Tugging her coat off, she left in on a chair by the fire, taking her favourite book from its resting place...

Echoing footsteps down the hall dragged Beatrice from the rolling green fields of Switzerland and the goat herd on its mountain top. It was Nan! And there were no eggs in sight! Or time! Bea glanced at the window, plotting if she could make it outside and to the chicken coop in time. The library door opened, Nan sticking her head inside. She smiled, glancing at Bea on the floor, books and cushions surrounding her.

"Ahh, there you are! I thought for a second you had forgotten the eggs."

Beatrice glanced to the floor, a wooden basket next to the plum cushion catching her eye. "No Nan...here they are. I just wanted to read..." She trailed off, handing her Nan the full basket of chicken eggs, that she swore had not been there a minute ago.

THE LANGSTRETHS MUGGLE ❀──────────────────❀ OVIS LODGE Reducio A muggle family with origins in England, the Langstreth family are proud farmers turned businessmen from Salford, England. Humble farmers before the Industrial Revolution (1760-1840), the Langstreths grew their wealth from textile farming, a resource that became important during the great economic boom of the late 1700's and early 1800's. The farming industry died out during the 20th century and many members of the family eventually relocated into other careers, mainly becoming accountants and engineers. xxTHE MENZIESx WIZARDKIND ❀──────────────────❀ COMRIE FARM Reducio An old pureblood family from Scotland, the wizarding Menzies developed from the Menzies Clan of Gaelic tribes. Although the tribe's name first came into use around 1090 AD in the time of Malcom Ceanmor, the wizarding bloodline of this clan is much older. Potioneers, poets and proud warriors have all extended from the name Menzies, and the name still holds much weight within wizarding social circles. Famed for rearing cattle, the current Clan still farm, although many have gone into working for themselves and the land in other ways.
