────────────Ming was not exactly sure how he had ended up in this situation. On the one hand, he was clearly one of the most experienced moderators of dueling in their year. On the other, his goal this year had been to develop his own magical prowess, not encourage the growth of the rest of his year.
Yet somehow, one thing had led to another and another still, and Ming had suddenly found himself in the middle of what could only be described at a protracted House War. It had perhaps all started with the Snake House giving a strong performance for the House Cup in the previous year, leading to some emotions, and ruffled feathers (no pun intended). So irked was the Azure House, in fact, that they came rolling back with a vengeance in the latter half of the year, seizing not only the House Cup, but also the Duelling Championship.
Of course it was now a new year, so the proper thing to do would be to have a fresh start. A clean plate, so to speak. But after having spent the better part of a year with these magicals, Ming could admit to himself that he was not exactly very good at letting things go.
So when the Vipers started having dueling waitlisters, Ming seized the opportunity. Perhaps the Slytherin house could not match the combined might of Ravenclaw. Perhaps the Duelling team was living on its past glories. Perhaps he was a being a petty idiot. But it was an opportunity to show the Birds that not every Snake is prey.
“Contestants,” he began slowly, with his careful enunciation of the Queen’s English. “For all that this is practice, all the normal dueling restrictions apply. No physical contact, and use only of approved spells for dueling tournaments. The team with more health after 12 rounds of casting wins. Play fair, and do your best.”
“Give your best effort, and nothing back.” Ming backed away at a careful, deliberate pace, keeping his eyes on each of the four contestants. “BEGIN”OC Notes: Trunks have been locked for the duration of this thread, do refrain from using spells abilities that have been added since after this post.

Dazed, yet at the same time intrigued. Monica walked on the field, wand in hand, ready for battle. She had signed up for duelling at the top of this year, wanting to bring some pride to her beloved house. However the waiting list seemed to prove a rather long... well for lack of better words, wait. Never to know if her wand would get the chance to cast off in battle, that is until Ming had approached her with a rather exuberayting proposition, one to both bring pride to the Slytherin House, as well as gain some much needed experience for when joining the duelling team.
Along with her teammate Elena Pea Fowl, Monica entered the field, ready to show what snakes were capable of, "We got this! Let's show these flightless birds what us snakes can do!" Monica said to her partner! She was as confident about winning this fight, as she was unpracticed in the sport of duelling, but that was just how Monica approached any competition, with the fire to win!
Ming took to the center of the battle, kicking things off with the rules for the duel, as well final words of encouragement. Monica could feel her heart racing, her wand becoming slippery in her clammy hands. Though competitive as she was, she had never once been in a fight before, let alone a Magical Duel! It was more than just relying on ones own strength, and physical skills, it was also putting to the test your magical abilities... Her thoughts spiralled, what if she blew up her wand? What if she misfired and harmed Pea? What if based on how well she did in this fight, ruined her chances to join the Real duelling team?
"No. Don't loose your focus now, that guarantees a loose!" Monica took a big breath, closing her eyes while Ming spoke. Focusing on her breath.
In....
Out...
She allowed her senses to open up to the sounds around her, to the distant chirp of a flock of birds, the wind tossing about tree branches. She adjusted her grip on her wand, feeling the wood grain against her thumb, and the power serging through it.
She opened her eyes just as Ming called for the start of the match. Monica took her place, facing her opponents.

OOC note : All of Pea's word and action are all 100% for the purpose of her character- please don't take anything to heart. >.<
Another round of duelling- is that surprising? Pea walked toward the center of the duelling club, wands at hands, ready to aim at any feisty birds in sight. Sadly- this time, the duelling is only for practice purposes, so no juicy drama- just purely the test of their skills in the sport. Pea was always fascinated with the game of duelling. Out of any other sport- which does not interest her in the slightest, duelling just felt like where she belonged. Well, it is a game of attacking people- and where you will be rewarded for hurting them the most. Isn't that just the perfect sport? So soon enough, she signed up to be on the waitlist to join their house famous dueling team, the Viridian Vipers.
When Ming offers to do the practice dueling, at first, she isn't too sure because she doesn't want to be partnered up with a weakling. Ugh- just imagining an incompetent partner already gave her headaches. But, she trusts that a fellow Slytherin won't disappoint her.
So finally, the white-haired agreed to join the friendly game of duelling. She has duelled before- once at the summer camp along with another fellow Slytherin, Colin, which she always remembers. So it's not like she has no experience in the field, and her Outstanding homework should be another proof of why she would be winning this match.
Pea walks over to her spot as she is greeted by her partner. Monica Evans. She is.. descent. Probably a little too brutish for her taste- but Monica is also a prefect, so it should be wise to trust that Monica knows what she is doing.
"We got this! Let's show these flightless birds what us snakes can do!" the blue-haired says to her. Pea conjures a lazy smile as a reply and crosses her arm. "Yes- we will snip their wings off." A sly smile pulled her lips as she said it.
Waiting for their opponent to arrive. She is confident that although she is fascinated with the creature, she would be able to take the eagles down in no time.

Bea wasn't sure how she'd really ended up here. It was only the start of term and she'd mentioned to one of the dueling captains that she'd love some practice whilst she waited for a spot to open on the quite full team roster. It was why she was now standing outside the dueling room, wand twirling in hand and stomach full of nerves. At least she knew who her partner was. Adelaide Barlow. Her summer tentmate from Summer Camp. She grinned. Fond memories of warm days and multiple adventures filled her mind as she thought back to the last few weeks. Adelaide had also been a participant of the Summer dueling games, and it was one of the reasons Bea was glad she was her partner. A strong partner and friend.
Bea glanced down at her watch, checking left and right down the corridors for a sign of Adelaide, red curly braids swinging at the motion. Nothing. Not a scant vision of the other Eagle. All well. Bea reasoned she would be along as soon as she could. Stepping through the door, Bea smiled at a friendly face. Monica stood waiting for them both. Two other snakes were with her. The boy she assumed was Ming, there moderator for the unofficial game. The white haired girl was Pea. Both she'd never met, but by the looks of them, they seemed friendly. She waved at Monica, who seemed a little nervous. "Hey! Ready to lose Mon?" She brandished her wand, eyes twinkling. She nodded at Ming and turned towards the other girl. "Beatrice Langstreth. Nice to meet you! Just letting you know, I've come to win." Stepping up to the plate as such, Bea was determined not to eat her words. Adelaide and her would win.

@Monica Evans @Pea Elena Fowl @Beatrice LangstrethAdelaide had signed up for Duelling, yet the waitlist was practically miles long so she hadn't claimed a spot on the team just yet. Though she had participated in the summer duel which had gave her some much needed practice, but of course she had to keep practicing if she wanted to be absolutely perfect when she finally got on the team. Which is exactly why she had volunteered for this practice duel against Slytherin. Her partner was Beatrice Langstreth, and thankfully she actually knew her. They were tentmates at Summer Camp together, and the girl had also been apart of the summer duel too, so at least they both had some experience in a duel. They'd crush it, Adelaide was confident that they would.
She entered the room, smiling warmly at Bea as she did before she took a glance at her opponents. She was surprised that she actually knew the two. Monica was also her tentmate during summer camp, and Adelaide would consider her a friend. Pea though, she didn't know how exactly she felt about her. The moderator of the duel, Ming, she doesn't know that well either. But now wasn't the time to think about her relationship with her opponents, all she should be focused on now was trying to defeat them and win this duel. Even though it's just a practice duel, failure isn't something the second year is particularly fond of.
She stood opposite her opponents, smirking as she called out, "Ready to lose?" Maybe her cockiness would come back to bite her in the ass later, but she just couldn't resist saying it. Adelaide turned to Bea then, "Good luck," she whispered to her teammate, before raising her wand and getting ready to strike.Action: As strategized

It amused a part of Ming to notice the massive difference in strategy employed by the snakes from the fiasco in the previous year. Where in the last year, the duel had started with a volley of spells and a conspiracy of action, it seemed that strategy had evolved into something better co-ordinated this time.
As soon as he had given the signal to begin, Miss Evans leapt to the side having anticipated an incoming attack. And what anticipation it was, too! Both of the Eagles seemed to have focused their casting on the Slytherin Prefect.
Miss Barlowe seemed to hesitate just a moment too long in casting her spell, causing her want to sputter out a single bubble instead of a wave of them. Miss Langstreth, however, seemed perfectly prepared for the Snake Prefect’s evasive maneuvers, aiming a well-timed dancing feet spell just where Miss Evans would be moving to. The spell hit Monica square in the middle, and immediately her feet began to move in a wild tapping staccato.
Miss Pea, meanwhile was given free reign to wreak her own brand of havoc. Taking a moment to perfect her aim, she let loose an impressive Knockback Jinx. Though it had taken her too long to aim the spell at Miss Langsreth, the Ravenclaws were so focused on the Slytherin Prefect that it left them open to the incoming attack.
Ming took a moment to evaluate the damage caused by the jinx, and nodded to himself. All duelists should be able to continue without issue.

The air grew still, sound muffled. All competitor's positioned and poised for when the match would begin. Monica controlled her breathing, thinking hard about her move. The first action was the most crucial, it would be the window into how your opponent would chose to play, and would be the first block in the construction of strategy against them. Monica knew the grave importance of making the right first move, it was just a matter of know what move would be the correct one.
Glancing over to her partner, Monica felt an air of confidence from Pea, and the sudden urge to not let her down. This was to be a practice for joining the team for real, so this was the do or die, show everyone what you are made of. Looking back across the battle field stood her adversaries, also anticipating the start of it all. Focusing hard, Monica tried to gage the direction of their eyes, were they....? No too far away to actually know for sure, but for some odd reason, Monica couldn't help but feel watched.
The matched was called, and in a split moment, Monica made her choice, she saw both wands pointing at her, and jumped to the side, tucking her head, and going into a perfect roll. Her feet found the ground and just as she stood up, ready to cast her own spell, she saw the flash of light... and her feet began to move uncontrollably. She had been hit!
Luckily though, amongst the chaos, Pea was able to land her spell on Beatrice, "Nice one Pea!"
Though Monica was stuck 'getting jiggy with it' she learned 2 very important things,
1) She had a quality teammate, poised and ready for attack.
2) The other team was targeting Monica in particular, this changed how the next move should be taken.
There was hardly any time to ponder too long, Ming had deemed all participants good to press on, the next attack was coming, and quick. Monica looked over at her partner, having struck an idea of what she wanted to do, but how to communicate it? Resorting to shifting her eyes, and praying the message was received.
They could do this! They were Slytherin after all, and if Monica wanted to join the official team, she had to show them that she could be asset, not liabilities

"Beatrice Langstreth. Nice to meet you! Just letting you know, I've come to win." Finally the Eagles have arrive. Pea folded her arm judging them with her two eyes. ....eh, she expected more, but they will do. We'll see if they are a worthy opponent she guessed, although the one that was talking to her sure seems confident. Big mistake honestly. Now she knows who to target in the first round. "We'll see about that." Pea mutters to the curly-haired.
So when the first round start, Pea was swiftly pointing her wand at Beatrice, without noticing that the birds are pointing their wands at Monica, her partner. She cast the Knockback Jinx, and it was a successful blow unto Beatrice, although she didn't realize that Monica is dancing frantically at her side. Apparently, both of the birds are targeting Monica. Interesting.
Thankfully Adelaide's spell didn't leave her wand or Monica would get a double blow. Monica whose feet would not stop moving is smiling at Pea seeing that her spell has hit their opponent beautifully. "Nice one Pea!"
"I know, well they should realize now who is going to be winning this," Pea smirked while looking a little concerned at her partner. Would she be able to dodge more attacks with her uncontrollably dancy feet? Guess she'll just have to wait and see. Looking at Monica with furrowed eyebrows, they have an understanding of what their next move will be.

@Beatrice LangstrethThe duel had begun, and Adelaide cursed when Monica had seemed to anticipate her move prior and had dodged out of the way. The surprise that Monica had managed to anticipate their moves had made Adelaide lose the slightest bit of concentration, and everyone knew that losing even a tiny ounce of concentration in a duel was critical. Her Bubble-Producing Spell failed miserably, her wand only sputtering out a single, sad bubble. Her jaw clenched and eyes narrowed at her failed spell. Failing the first spell she had cast at the start of the duel certainly wasn't what she wanted to happen.
Bea, though, seemed to be off on a good foot. She wasn't as surprised that Monica had started dodging straight away and was still able to cast a successful Dancing-Feet Spell at Monica, hitting the Slytherin perfectly and sending her legs into a wild frenzy. Adelaide nodded once, "Good job," she said to her teammate. Unfortunately, they were both too focused on Monica that they had failed to see the Knockback Jinx Pea had sent flying at Bea. It hit and Adelaide couldn't help but wince. "You alright?" She asked, glancing at her teammate and quickly assessing her to make sure she wasn't extremely hurt.
Her attention quickly turned back to her opponents, raising her eyebrow at Pea's overly cocky remark. Adelaide and Bea needed to prove her wrong then, knock her down by a few pegs. She was too cocky for Adelaide's liking. Taking a deep breath, she raised her wand once more, ready to attack again.Action: As strategized

It wasn't what she had been planning for the first round. Truly. Well, the spells and target were. Just not how it panned out. She'd planned for a double attack, a united front to take Monica down, although it seemed Adelaide's wand had other ideas. All well. Hopefully Adelaide's wand would rethink that lovely idea next round.
Smiling as her spell hit home, even with Monica actively dodging out the way, smart since she had the most stamina of the group. The look on both the snakes faces though said it all. They hadn't been expecting a united front towards Monica. Bea knew it would change in the next round, them more suspicious now they had experience of the Bea and Adelaide's actions. As Monica danced and danced, doing some group of moves that really wasn't Bea's cup of tea, she couldn't help but laugh a little. How was she not to when her friend looked to be throwing down like the best of them.
As she heard Pea's remark, her smile was replaced with a frown. She wasn't sure how to think on the snake, truly, but Bea noticed Adelaide's behaviour and silently agreed. Pea needed to be knocked down one, even just for a moment. By Peas face, she didn't think much of Bea either, but that was fine to her.
Too in thought about both snakes, she failed to notice Pea directing a flipendo towards her. Failing to move out of the way, it hit, Bea going flat on her back from the spell. Sitting up with a huff, Bea narrowed her eyes at the snake who cast it. She really wasn't a fan right now. Standing up with a small grimace, Bea shook herself, smiling at Adelaide. "Yeah, A'm alright. Just a small knock about."
