Capture The Jolly Roger
The Set-Up:IC date is August 26th.It felt like all the stops had been pulled out for Capture the Flag.
Pax clutched their broom, looking over the set-up, and they had to say, they were very proud of what they'd managed to accomplish. The basic structure was already quite elaborate, with the central obstacle holding the golden flag, and 5 rectangular wooden platforms connected to make a pentagon around it, and they had wooden steps that led up to planks, leading to the team ships. Currently, Pax stood on a wooden platform with the nurse, where all the players would meet, each be given a life-jacket (safety was important for those non-swimmers) and the rules, before then taking their starting places at their team's ship.
ReducioAn Overhead View of the Course
Ships:
For each team, a simple wooden pirate ship had been constructed and floated on the water, each detailed with their team's colours with a fun coloured flag (not up for grabs) flying from the mast. A staircase inside led up to the only way to get in. To leave, players could exit through small doorways (enchanted so no entry was possible) that connected to the central pantagonal wooden platform. They were located either side of the main attraction, the only way to enter a ship. The obstacle. Coral Crossbones' obstacle:
Around 8 small wooden platforms, elevated above the water around 6ft, tilted at a 45 degree angle from the horizontal. To reach the Coral Crossbones' ship, players would have to jump from platform to platform without falling.
ReducioAccuracy Check. DC = 12. Sapphire Swashbucklers' obstacle:
To reach the Sapphire Swashbucklers' ship, a thin plank, elevated above the water about 6ft, spanned across to reach the entrance/exit. Dummies dressed in pirate attire swung back and forth, ready to knock players to their watery doom.
ReducioEvasion Check. DC = 12. Teal Treasure's obstacle:
Entry to the Teal Treasure's was blocked by a wall about 6ft tall, with a ramp for players to run up and hoist themselves over to enter the ship. Between the ramp and the wall, however, was a small jump of about 3ft, and if players failed to pull themselves up, they would plunge into the cold water.
ReducioStrength Check. DC = 12. Lilac Leviathans' obstacle:
The Lilac Leviathans' entrance lay beyond a wall of water that poured down from nowhere in particular. It was quite thick, and players would have to traverse through it to have any chance of reaching the Leviathans' lair.
ReducioStamina Check. DC = 12. Pink Parrots' obstacle:
A slowly spinning, enlarged pirate's ship wheel creaked round and round. All the platforms but one would drop whenever somebody stood on one of the spokes, so players had to be careful when stepping onto the wheel.
ReducioWisdom Check. DC = 12. The Golden Jolly Roger:
Surrounded by several obstacles of increasing difficulty, any players that could make it so far through would be rewarded with the Golden Jolly Roger. Obstacle 1:
The first obstacle that players would have to get through was a series of poles with wooden boards sticking out of them, each pole with the ability to rotate. Players would have to be careful as they snuck through.
ReducioEvasion Check. DC = 16. Obstacle 2:
Secondly, players would have to climb a steadily inclining tightrope, with only a rope above to hold onto to avoid falling into the cold waters below.
ReducioAccuracy Check. DC = 17 Obstacle 3:
Last, but by no means least, players would have to do a speedy climb up a precarious rope ladder and over the lookout's perch to retrieve the reward of the Golden Jolly Roger.
ReducioStrength Check. DC = 18 Game Mechanics:How it works:
ReducioEach team has a ship/base where they will begin and store their team’s flags. To reach any team’s ship, there is an obstacle in front of it. At the centre of the arena is the golden Jolly Roger, which is available to steal. Once stolen from the centre, it can be stolen from other teams’ bases. Each team also has 15 'team' flags that they must guard and stop the other teams from stealing. A ‘team’ flag is only considered as stolen if it is in another team’s ‘base’ (e.g. a teal flag is in the coral team’s ‘base’). You can steal stolen ‘team’ flags either back for your team and/or (if there are more than 2 teams) steal stolen ‘team’ flags from another team (e.g. you (on teal team) can steal your teal flag back from the coral team, or you (on teal team) can steal a pink flag from the coral team). When players try to steal flags at your base, rolls will be made accordingly. (E.g. at the red base there are 3 red flags, 1 golden flag, 4 blue flags and 2 yellow flags. To calculate which flag is stolen, I would roll 1d10 and assign each flag a number. Whichever number is rolled is the flag that is stolen).
Scoring:
ReducioEach ‘team’ flag stolen is worth 10 points. The golden flag is worth 50 points. The overall aim of the game is to earn as many points for your team. Flags must be in your team’s base to count to the overall total. You will be rewarded if your team wins, but also the top 3 players with the highest number of points will also receive rewards.
Damage:
ReducioEach player starts with some HP (calculated by stamina stat x 100). You can take damage in a few ways. You can take damage from being physically attacked, which the player’s strength stat x 25. When you fall from an obstacle, each player also takes 1d10 x 10 damage. When you are reduced to 0 HP, you will be classed as unconscious and the referee (Pax) will fly you over to the nurse who will heal you. Each round you wait to be healed, you gain 100 HP. You can wait a few rounds to gain more HP or return to the game after one round regaining some health.
Rewards:
ReducioWinning Team: 3 chocolate frogs each? (depending on the team size)
Top 3 point scorers: Gifts from Weasley's Wizard Wheezes highest point scorer gets first pick, etc.
Actions+Abilities:Legal Actions (team flags):
ReducioFace obstacle ->This action is mandatory unless you are defending. To reach a ship, players must face an obstacle. They will have to do this twice, once at the start of their turn to reach an opponent's ship, and once at the end to get back to their ship. If they fail on their way to get a flag, they will fall into the water and the rest of the action will be spent climbing out from the water and the action will essentially be void. If they fail after retrieving a flag, they will fall into the water, and they will not be able to return to their ship that round (meaning that they have not scored any points thus far). They may be able to return to the ship on their next action, after they have chosen to go and get another flag or simply if they would like a guarantee and return to their ship. Obstacles will vary based on the ship the player is trying to reach.
Steal->after facing an obstacle, the player attempts to steal the flag. This is stealer evasion vs defender wisdom. If the stealer succeeds, they grab the flag and can escape. If they fail, the defender can ‘defend’ against them.
Distract->a player distracts the defender whilst they try to grab the flag. This is distracter wisdom vs defender wisdom. If the distracter succeeds, they grab the flag. If they fail, the defender can ‘defend’ against them. This move can also be used by one person to allow another player advantage on ‘steal’ (player must be stated in advance, or will be chosen at random), but only if they succeed (after, they must roll evasion vs wisdom). If they fail, then the stealer suffers disadvantage. For the 2-player move, on a nat20, the distracter automatically gets the flag. On a nat1, the distracter will automatically fail to get the flag.
Attack->a player attacks the defender before they can be ‘defended’ against. This is attacker accuracy vs defender evasion. If the attacker is successful, they can grab the flag. If they fail, the defender can ‘defend’ against them. This move can also be used to allow another player advantage on ‘steal’ (player must be stated in advance, or will be chosen at random). However, the attacker will not have a chance to steal a flag. For the 2-player move, on a nat20, the attacker will get to steal a flag. For single and 2-player, on a nat1 (that is successful), the defender will get to retaliate.
Defend->a player stays at the base to defend against anyone who is stealing a flag. If they are stealing a flag, they can try to ‘defend’ with a physical move (e.g. a punch, kick or tackle). This is only if they succeed to see the stealer, and will be defender accuracy vs stealer evasion. If they roll a nat20, they deal double damage. If they roll a nat1 (but succeed), they deal half damage.
Additonal info:
-Defenders and stealers/distracters/attackers will be paired up randomly unless specifically stated in the action.
-If there are too many of one group (e.g. too many defenders) initiative will be rolled to decide the order.Illegal Actions (team flags):
ReducioTag-Teaming->When 2+ players distract/attack/defend against the same opponent. If this is used, the players working together should be stated in the action submission. An average is taken of the players’ appropriate stat bonus and applied. They also get advantage for how many people team up (e.g. 3 people team up, there are 3 attempts to distract). If successful, each participant will complete the appropriate actions. However, if a player is caught doing an illegal action by the moderator (Pax), they will sit out for a round.Golden Flag Actions:
ReducioThis will be a series of obstacles to reach the centre and grab the golden flag. The rules for obstacles are similar to above. If they fail trying to get the golden flag, they will fall into the water and the rest of the action will be spent climbing out from the water and returning to base, and the action will essentially be void. If they fail after retrieving a flag, they will fall into the water, and they will not be able to return to their base that round (meaning that they have not scored any points thus far). The obstacles get progressively harder (shown in DC).
Obstacle 1-this is the first obstacle, which is a series of rotating poles with boards sticking out from them (think in kung fu panda when po is in his first training session, and you should be able to work it out). They will all be below head height for an average 11-year-old. [b[This is an evasion roll, the DC is 16. [/b]
Obstacle 2-this is the second obstacle, which is an inclining tightrope with a rope to hold onto above for a little extra stability. This is an accuracy roll, the DC is 17.
Obstacle 3-this is the final obstacle, which is climbing to the top of a rope ladder to grab the flag. This is a strength roll, the DC is 18.
Each obstacle, initiative will be rolled for everyone attempting to get the golden flag.
Once someone has got the golden flag, they can either risk going back the way they came and losing the flag (if they fall into the water the flag is taken from them and placed back at the top of the obstacle course) or they can risk jumping. If they jump, they roll 1d20 + stamina. A nat1 means they take full damage (left with 0 HP) and are knocked unconscious, meaning the flag is taken from them. A 2-5 will result in you losing 75% of your current HP. A 6-10 will result in you losing 50% of your current HP. A 11-15 will result you in losing 25% of your current HP. A 16-19 will result in you losing 10% of your current HP. A nat20 will not have you lose any HP.
If you successfully make it back to your base with the golden flag, it can be stolen by other teams.Abilities+what they do:

This initial post is an arrival post, so please feel free to god-mod Pax slightly as they tell everyone the rules and then direct people to their correct starting positions. Captains, you will usually also have 6 days to submit actions to me, please discuss with your team what you would like to do. As this is an arrival post, actions are not needed. Capture The Jolly Roger
Sophia was an idiot.
There was no other way to sugarcoat it.
She'd signed up for the game of 'Capture the Jolly Roger,' the pirate equivalent of 'Capture the Flag' - a game she was quite familiar with from her days playing video games as a muggle - for a few reasons. One: it had sounded pretty fun, admittedly. Two: Pax was in charge of it, and Sophia was eager to see what they'd cooked up for the students of Hogwarts and their foreign friends.
Sophia had expected something like the wizard equivalent of laser tag or something, but apparently it was to be full contact and - even worse - they were floating above a mass of water on pretty decent facsimiles of actual ships.
If she failed an obstacle, she didn't just scrape her knee and get up. No, she would land in the water! She'd learned a bit of basic swimming over the summer, but she still wasn't comfortable enough to actually swim! She'd die if she tried! Thankfully, they had life-jackets, but that still didn't put a damper on Sophia's fears.
She looked away from the water to look for any familiar faces she could find.
Of course Pax was there, hovering on their broom. Sophia offered a big wave, shouting out to the demigirl.
"Paxie! You'd better not let me drown!" she shouted happily to her friend.
She then spotted Kim - her Kim - leading another team! The purplish one! What the heck! He was her friend, why couldn't she be on his team? She frowned, but despite her reservations, she would still do everything she could to help her own team - which was full of strangers - to win, so she shouted to Kim too.
"Kim! I hope you can swim, 'cause your pretty face is going in the water!" she shouted mirthfully as she waved at him too.
Her eyes kept scanning the course as she looked for one other person that she knew had signed up: Hiro! She knew he'd signed up and she knew he wasn't on her team, so he had to be somewhere!
After a few moments, she saw him standing with his own team - the pink one! - and she fantasized idly about being on a team with her Japanese friend. Nothing could be done about it now, so instead she just waved with both hands to get his attention and shouted once more.
"Hiro! Good luck! You're going to need it!" she shouted with a wink.
Oh well. She may not be with her friends, but this could still be quite fun. Besides, teal wasn't such a bad color.

Capture The Jolly Roger
Ayako joined the game of 'Capture the Jolly Roger' eagerly, excited to improve herself upon the field of battle and to test herself in such a varied field of obstacles. This was a perfect test of strength, dexterity, and endurance, and she would be damned if she allowed her team to lose.
Hiro was the team leader, which was perfectly fine for her since she knew exactly what he was capable of when he took things seriously.
"Allow no distractions. Set a goal and focus intently upon it. Eliminate any opposition and victory will be assured," she said evenly to the rest of the team. She hadn't even bothered learning their names, since none of them truly matter to her other than Hiro. In a few days, she'd likely never see or speak to any of them again anyway.
She turned her attention back to the course, studying every inch she could see. If she could only recognize and memorize the distances betwe-
A loud, screechy sound then reared its ugly head and interrupted her concentration. Had she not known better, Ayako would have expected a petrifying banshee to be the source of the loud, annoying sound, but she would have been mistaken. It was a girl. An annoying girl with blue hair, calling out to various people in attendance, including Hiro.
"You know this... girl, Hiro-san?" she asked in Japanese, using the word girl only loosely given the loud obnoxious shouting of the creature on the teal team.
Glaring at the girl, she turned her attention back to the course, trying to estimate distances as best she could to plan the optimal route to victory.

Sta 8 | Eva 10 | Str 11 | Wis 6 | Arc 5 | Acc 5Edward Smith. The man of the year, crowds cheering for him, until he was shaken awake by his own brain. Why did fame always interfere with his real life? He wanted to be famous more than anything, like his favorite hero, Freddie Mercury, but obviously this would mean being "nice" and clearly Edward was only meant for Clair, no matter what forces say I'm watching you Tatsu >:[.
He had to prepare to give it his all since he was the Team Captain for the Sapphie Swashbucklers. "Shit." He said, muttering to himself. He had to actually demonstrate that he could guide others to victory, and Eddy knew of his--- leadership skills. Perhaps this experience would help- hopefully this time there wouldn't be someone trying to hug him! There wasn't Twirl The Flagron in this right? Theo wasn't playing right? If Theo was, Eddy would surely die!
"SHIT!" Edward yelled out as he looked on his roster for a team. Theo (Theodore Duncain) was on it! He had to grit his teeth and try to go through with it. He must! What else would he do? Lose? That wasn't an option! And, if Theo and Eddy didn't get along, Edward would be the one to throw the first punch.
Next on the roster list was Beatrice Langstreth, in which Eddy knew nothing about her. And another was Elizaveta Mikailov- sounding like a Russian name. Was she- no. She wasn't from Koldov. SHE'S A TRAITOR! SHE MUST BE FROM DURMSTRANG! WHY IN THE WORLD IS EDWARD GETTING DURMSTRANG ON HIS TEAM! Ughhh did he really need to try to get along with others? Noah wasn't sure exactly who Eliza was, but if she was who Edward took her as, then Edward would be slinging spells all night in his tent in anger, anger that he didn't target a possible durmstrang.
And next, Starlee Kennedy. She sounded- sweet and popstarish- maybe she'll bring some pep into the team! He wondered if she'd like to say a pep talk- well- maybe it'd be Edward instead- because after all- he is the Captain of the Sapphie Swashbucklers. Oliver Simmons was another- why did he sound like he was full of charm? And Rita Su- she must be new to Summer Camp- because while Edward didn't recognize all these, he sure hasn't heard of some of these people- but knew of some from talking to Clair.
Last name on the list- Louca Dufort- Edward gasped, some people he never heard of. Maybe it's time to make friends! After all, he needed to shake off the thought of the kiss he shared with Alec Mason a week prior.
"Приходите все, мне нужны члены Sapphie Swashbucklers здесь!" Eddy yelled, in a thick russian accent, thinning it the accent to be comprehensible to those who didn't speak Russian. Capture The Jolly Roger
It was a sunny day and Rita went to the London Quidditch Stadium to join the Capture the Jolly Roger activity. When Rita arrived at the boat, Edward, the team leader, was already there, busy walking around and recruiting his members of the team. "He really has done a great job as the team leader!" Rita thought when she walked close to him, "Let me have a word with him!" "Hi, Edward! I am Rita, a Second-year Hufflepuff, sorry to interrupt you, but may I have a word with you?"Seeing Edward was busy paying attention to his recruiting work and do not have time to talk with her, she simply walked away to let him focus on his work. She then looked around the boat and thought, "Thankfully, the weather is quite good today! Since other members of our team haven't come, I will just stay here and wait for them. I think Capture the Jolly Roger seems to be an interesting activity, it is similar to the muggle activity Capture the Flag I have heard of. I am looking forward to it and I want to say thank you to Pax for planning out this activity! I know this is a strategic game and Edward, as our team captain, has to think of strategies for our team to win the game. I hope he can think of bright strategies, and our team can work together to win the game so that I can add more frogs to my chocolate frog collection!"

Capture The Jolly Roger
Interacting with Olive Adair @Sienna Lenoir, Edward Smith @Noah Jupe and @Rita Su
The one event that Starlee had signed up for had been a variation of a game that she had played back in her muggle schooling, Capture the Flag. As was typical of the magical realm, the stakes had been raised, and the whole event took place out on the water, this new variation called 'Capture the Jolly Roger.' It seemed like it could actually be quite fun, based more on physical abilities than spell casting, as she would have expected, and while Starlee felt like she was getting better, she was definitely still nervous whenever she had to cast.
Starlee proceeded to get ready, throwing on a relatively simple green bathing suit, her favorite color of course, and she made her way out to where the event was to take place. There were quite a few people there, with really almost no people she was familiar with. She did notice her newfound cousin, and gave her a wave. She was trying to mend the bridge that their grandfather had caused, despite his wishes more than likely. Before she could go and say hi however, her team captain, a boy from a foreign school, called their whole team to attention.
She walked over to join their team captain, as did another girl Starlee didn't know. She smiled lightly at both of them, perhaps a bit awkwardly if one was inherently good at reading facial expressions, and introduced herself. "Hi, I'm Starlee. Slytherin." She paused, realizing that the foreign students might not know all the houses, and she quickly added, "Uh, from Hogwarts. Right." a bit sheepishly.

Florian had made it his mission this summer camp to do everything he possibly could. This was quite in contrast to the last years, where he really only came because of the Broom Race, in which of course he helped the Beauxbaton's team win. If it wasn't for the darn vines, he would have crossed that finish line first, but he was proud that he at least managed to delay some of the other teams racers.
This past year he had switched to Quidditch as they were in need of an immediate spot filled, and he had claimed Seeker, certainly the most coveted position. This meant that of course he played at the game at camp, a memory that was certainly engrained in the young boys mind. Not just that, but Florian had also competed in the triathlon, pretty much doing everything he could to solidify his training for the upcoming Hexwizard tournament. He was in it to win it after all, and today would be no different. His team would certainly be winning this, Capture the Jolly Roger game that some of the Hogwarts students had cooked up.
He donned a rather bright pair of swim trunks, because Florian was never one to blend into the crowd, and he made his way rather haughtily to the event. Upon arrival, he found quite a lot of people gathered, even his date to the prior Spring Ball, the lovely River Fayre. He would wave to her rather chivalrously as he stopped to listen to the rules with the rest of the group, and wait for his teammates to arrive, most of which he didn't know.

────────────────────── ㅤ
ㅤ──────────────────────| ── | It was near the end of summer. The days had passed by so fast this year, at least for Kim. Things had gone relatively well for his first time. In other words, the 'first time' he'd ever been on a planning committee for a large event like this. He'd signed up for this event mainly because it didn't have to do with heights, at least not higher than a foot above ground, and the fact that it was a game Pax had organized. The demigirl would have killed him if he hadn't participated in it. Of course, Kim wasn't the same way, he didn't mind if none of his friends signed up for any of his events. The boy hadn't intentionally set them up for them to take part in, they were for anyone interested in participating in summer games. Upon reaching his destination, Kim glanced around at the area. The boy was given a life jacket but was told he didn't have to wear it if he didn't want to. This was just a precaution for the non-swimmers. He nodded and tucked it under his arm as the rest of the rules were explained to them. Kim took note of the golden flag's location and the wooden platforms that branched out. Pax informed him that he was to be the captain of the Lilac Leviathans and showed him where the ship was. He nodded and headed over to the area in question, already trying to think about strategies. Once at his ship, Kim stopped and waited for his teammates. The wall of water that blocked entrance to their ship's area made his lips twitch. It looked really cool and refreshing. Part of him wanted to duck into the water to cool off but he resisted the urge. When he'd been walking over to his own ship, Kim had noticed the two next to him. The orange and green ones. If he remembered correctly, they were the Coral Crossbones and the Teal Treasure ships. The former had to do with jumping, while the latter had to do with a ramp and wall. From what he'd seen of the other ships, most had to deal with heights. Kim shook his head. He could deal with it, that was what he had to keep telling himself. As long as he didn't look down, he'd be perfectly fine. It was a shame he didn't know anyone on his team. Well, not really that is. The only one he was remotely familiar with was Aryaan Shamsi and the only reason for that was because Aryaan was the Mahoutokoro Champion. Kim's attention was drawn over to Sophia, as the girl raised her voice and shouted at him. He raised a brow and a faint smirk came to his lips. She was loud as usual but it was one of the things that made her endearing to him. Kim raised a hand into the air to acknowledge Sophia's words and then he glanced over as the first member of his team arrived. "I look forward to working with you." Kim told the person. He would wait until the rest of his team arrived and then start to discuss strategies with them. They had various options. ────────────────────── ㅤ ㅤ──────────────────────

Stephen awakened in his bunk that morning and one of his first thoughts, after that of being ravenous, was that he had been at camp for almost four weeks already. He knew he was enjoying it because the time was flying. He was meeting new people and making stronger relationships with those he already knew. Life was good, and it was about to get better.
Today was Capture the Jolly Roger day! An obstacle course, strategy sort of game. Sounded perfect, and he had not even seen the staging area yet. No matter. Everything else had been done to perfection. No reason to believe this would not be as well.
He showed up at the appointed time, donning his swim trunks, a plain, white tee shirt, and his sneakers. He had put moleskin on the back of his heels in case his sneakers got wet so that he would not get blisters. Then he listened to the instructions and saw the layout. He was given a life vest, but was told it was not mandatory to wear it. He opted out of wearing it. The thing would be nothing but a hindrance during the course of the game. Besides, he was a California coast native. The beach was his second home. If something went sideways, he had faith in the wizarding world's medical magic to bring him back whole and good as new.
Learning he was part of the Lilac Leviathans, Stephen was immediately pleased. Purple was his favorite color, a darker purple than lilac, actually, but it was in the purple neighborhood so it was the right neighborhood. That just made him happy.
He made his way to his ship's platform, taking note of the other ship positions and their "entry barriers". His ship's barrier was a wall of water. It looked refreshing as he was walking up to it, but it sounded formidable. Nice.
When he reached his platform, he saw another boy there, and greeted him with a smile and nod. "Hey. What's up man? Ready for some fun today? I'm Stephen Schwartz, by the way. Second year, Ilvermorny. You look sort of familiar, but I cannot seem to put a name to your face."

Capture The Jolly Roger

River was super her team would win. She did not really know what the game was, nor how she would play it. watch her run around like a confused chicken
But of course there was no doubt that her team would win, after all she was on it.
She smiled at Florian "Your SO going Down to the Pinky Parrots!" she said with a rare smile, Er, I mean The Parrots Pink. No! The pinkest Parrots." she paused, confused by her own words. "Pink Parrots! Thats it! Stupid name if you ask me, but seeing as no one did, I'll shut up" perhaps for today, just for today mind you, she would relax and enjoy herself. Maybe.
She closed her eyes as she listened to the rules, wanting to take in everything, if she made a mistake she would surely die, there was no questions to be asked there.
She wished that they could use their brooms for this game, it would be soooooo much better than just using the boring Muggle ways. Ok maybe not muggle ways, but either way, they were not the best way to play the game. Really, in a world where River Faure lived you'd think everything would be perfect!
