No matter how she might feel on the inside, Koko exudes confidence. She is almost bubbly in public, always pleased to see you (if she likes you). She might even be saccharine if she doesn’t like you. She believes it is important to be (or be seen as) kind, compassionate and even sweet. That doesn’t mean she’s not selfish – in fact, that is probably her defining trait.

While she enjoys helping others, she is incredibly self-serving and opportunistic. This leans towards hedonism at times. Anything that brings her pleasure, joy, success – or, perhaps most importantly, recognition and status – is wanted, whatever the ethical implications may be.

She is perfectionistic – obsessed with image to the highest degree.

She is rather emotionally intelligent and empathetic. This is a two-sided coin. On one hand, she can be good at figuring out others’ needs. However, she can also be incredibly manipulative, especially when it suits her goals. She is not afraid to sift out others’ weaknesses in pursuit of her own happiness.

That is to say, like any Slytherin, she is ambitious, cunning and resourceful. However, the ambition is a bit like a tunnel – going, going, going, because though one goal is reached, Koko still cannot be satisfied. She finds herself bored at the best of times and irritable at the worst. No matter what new, exciting thing she tries, it eventually becomes dull, so her ambition shifts, always in search of the newest, shiniest activity, job or piece of jewellery available. One could call her status-seeking and materialistic, but she is still relatively hard-working and will put her all into that which she attempts.

Appearance:

Standing at 5’1 / 1.55m, Koko is certainly on the shorter side, but her often present heels and bravado tend to make others think she is a fair bit taller. Her skin – pale, with rosy undertones, and a shade or two darker in the summer – is almost always made up, but a lucky few individuals have been able to glimpse the dustings of freckles across her cheeks. Blonde hair cut in a feathery bob falls to her chin level, while well-styled bangs hang above her sharp, manicured eyebrows. Long lashes, often somewhat darkened with mascara, frame her round, amber eyes.

Her clothing is quite inspired by vintage trends, especially of the 1940s. She is not afraid of colour in outfits, though she much prefers jewel tones and neutral tones. Skirts and lightweight shirts dominate her wardrobe, alongside the ever-present heels, but Koko is known for a love of practicality and will wear trousers when they are better for a situation. No matter the garment, though, she seeks to have it worn without blemish.

Koko would say she accessorises like a professional. From flawless, well-practised makeup to her often-worn gold hoop earrings and watch, she would say her appearance has a signature. Be that the warm, well-presented appearance she offers, the hint of honeysuckle and rose in the air from her perfume, or the clicking of her heels against hard flooring, you can generally identify her from that which she wears.

You’d be lucky to catch her without a red-lipped smile. It’s usually easily reflected in her eyes no matter how genuine it is. She’s become exceptionally good at emotional mirroring, which is expressed through her actions. Her body language is often curated to the point of being identifiable to her, though she does appreciate expressing herself. She stands with good – though not rigid – posture. She does not often talk with her hands (though a few strong drinks can bring out that tendency). She is not afraid to smile, to side-eye, or even to scowl if she deems it necessary.

Still, though, the fact that she will often smile and be outwardly compassionate to those she dislikes emphasises one thing in particular: that she would be horrified if someone were to catch her seeming like anything but the perfect, smiling icon of a young woman she wants herself to be.

The Wand:

They say the wand chooses the wizard, right? Well, that remains true for witches, too, however contrary this speculation might seem regarding Koko and her wand. Aspen wands are known as duellists' wands, and Koko is by no means a duellist ─ a well-known Quidditch player and captain of her team, she is far from one. But aspen wands are attracted to those with determination and strong-mindedness, showing a particular resilience. Koko, although only sixteen, has been through quite a bit, and she is still standing. Plus, she can take more than a few bludgers. Maybe her wand noticed that.

And dragon heartstring! For a girl who is quiet and largely unassuming, who would expect the loudest, most flamboyant wand core to choose her? Well, not all types of dragons are impatient. Not all types of dragons are flamboyant. When provoked, Koko would gladly unleash devastating damage on those who might wound her. Besides, dragons can fly. It's only fitting, then, that a dragon heartstring wand should find a Quidditch player. Headcanon wand core: Swedish Short-Snout.

The wand is short. Now, the easiest thing to do would be to make a short joke. Ha, ha, ha. Koko is small. So is her wand. But that removes wandlore from the equation! No, Koko's wand is short not because of her height, but instead because Koko is rather refined and prefers to do things by the book. She dislikes drawing attention to herself and would much rather hide in the shadows. The shorter wand reflects this.

Lastly, the flexibility: swishy. While Koko does prefer to do things by the book, that doesn't mean she's always been that way. She is only such a stickler now because of the consequences she's dealt with as a result of rule-breaking. Koko used to be a bit of a troublemaker, actually! Plus, her worldview is not deeply ingrained into her ─ she is more than willing to accept others' opinions, given that they make sense and don't hurt anyone. She believes in live and let live, so long as no one is getting hurt.

Reputation:

Koko: Between all of the things Koko has done at Hogwarts along with her lengthy tenure at the school, younger students likely have heard of her. Whatever they have heard, though, is probably superficial. She has been Slytherin's first-string Keeper for quite some time, and now that she is Slytherin's Quidditch co-captain, she has truly been making a name for herself in sporty spheres of talk. She has also been a prefect on-and-off during her time at Hogwarts, and she has written for the Headliner since her second year. Those who haven't met her might think she is a workaholic or perhaps snobbish. From afar, she can certainly seem that way!

Riddle family: British mages might shudder when they hear the name, but things are a bit different for Americans. Students from Ilvermorny might have heard of the Riddle family, alternatively spelt 'Riddell' in some histories. The family were based in Manhatttan, but there were branches in Philadelphia and Atlanta. The name was well-known for its blood purity, and the Riddells/Riddles were known to be a bit discriminatory. They often shunned all things Muggle, and while they never committed crimes against Muggles, many of the family did not necessarily think Muggles deserved anything good.

Some Riddles returned to England, and Koko's biological father, Henry, was born in Sheffield. The British Riddles were still generally a pure-blooded family, but they would marry Squibs or half-bloods because they were less concerned with blood purity than their American counterparts. They were also less prominent in wizarding culture, especially after the Wizarding Wars.

Wreath family: This is a Muggle family, so it's unlikely anyone from Hogwarts knows anything about it. However, a Muggle-born who likes technology might have heard of Wreath Audio, an audio processing company owned by Koko's adoptive paternal grandfather.

Leblanc family: Those with European wizarding family members─especially French ones─have likely heard of the Leblanc family. Extremely traditional, the Leblancs are known for their distaste of the new. Koko's side of the Leblanc family live on an estate in Rioux-Martin, France, and they require she learns French. They look upon Muggle-borns and half-breeds with disdain, although this is beginning to change, largely due to Koko's own heritage as a part-Veela.

The Leblancs are old money, most of which was gained through thoughtful siding in wizard politics. They haven't really done much. They're just rather good at negotiating terms and conditions. There have been a few Leblancs in the legal professions and in government positions, but for a relatively well-known wizarding family, the Leblancs don't have much to their name except rumour.

PRE-HOGWARTS HISTORY

Born on 24 April 2007 to Henry Riddle and Esme Lark alongside a twin sister, Sapphire, Koko likely would have grown up a sunshiney, fun-loving child on an estate just outside of Cambridge. Her parents, although nominally pure-bloods, were hardly traditionalists, which was a large part of why they were rather removed from wizarding society. Henry’s family, an offshoot of an American branch of the Riddells, had mixed with the pure-blood French Leblancs and even Veelas (including his own mother), a secret everyone wanted to keep under wraps, something easier hidden if you simply stayed out of sight.

They had few friends outside of family, so when Esme attempted to Apparate herself and Henry a greater distance than usual, few people could recognise them. They were hurriedly taken to St Mungos after being found, but it was too late — Esme had lost too much blood for even the blood-replenishing potion by that point, and Henry had hit his head after passing out after the initial splinch, making him dead on the scene.

Before she died, Esme was able to note some of Henry’s relatives, most of whom were distant. Koko and Sapphire were initially placed in foster care, and, eventually, Rosalie Leblanc and Victor Wreath took in Koko, who they figured they could pass off as their own daughter. They eventually had two more children, Holmes and Charles, and the family lived in London for years.

It wasn’t perfect, but no family is. Charlie and Holmes often received more attention than Koko did, and Koko assumed it was due to blatant favouritism on their mother’s end. As such, growing up, she was closer with Victor, often taking an interest in the Muggle-born wizard’s electronic music business he kept out of a studio in Soho. She didn’t have a clue how any of the software worked, only that it glowed and was pretty.

She was tutored alongside her brothers. Koko did well with arithmancy and occasionally music, but she struggled to read in both English and French. Although she had learned to read at a young age, poring through books gave her headaches, so she gradually avoided studying using books as she aged, preferring to practise piano or even help her brothers with maths.

Rosalie and Victor often argued. They tried to keep it from the children, but even Koko, who had never been all that observant, noticed it at times. Ever-selfish, she assumed they were arguing about her — including, after her first instance of magic, about whether or not to send her to Hogwarts. In reality, though, Rosalie, as the older daughter of French pure-blood Alphonse Leblanc, was feeling worse and worse about seemingly abandoning her family as her father aged, and she wanted to return to traditional pure-blood society, which would shun Victor. Eventually, they divorced, with Rosalie returning to France and Victor initially heading to Los Angeles to continue his company. He later moved to Coventry to be closer to his own family and continue his company in the UK.

Koko chose to stay primarily with Victor. At first, this was because she was simply closer with him and thought her mother disliked her. As she grew to know Rosalie better during visits to France, though, she began to realise she had been wrong and that they could have a good relationship. After that, the reason she chose to remain with Victor was so that she could finish her schooling at Hogwarts.

FIRST INSTANCE OF MAGIC

Koko’s first instance of magic occurred when she was about seven. She was in Victor’s studio with him, watching intently as he fiddled with some machinery and electric wires. It was getting late, and he had wanted to finish this one last thing before they went home. He was tired, though, and as he adjusted a mechanism that would usually snap shut, his finger slipped. Although Koko didn’t know what would happen, she recognised that the contraption wasn’t supposed to close on someone’s hands, and she let out a small shriek. The contraption froze, half-shut, and Victor was able to remove his hand before it slammed closed.

Familial

Leblanc Family — based in Rioux-Martin, France.

Rosalie Leblanc — adoptive mother.

Reducio

Rosalie is a pure-blood witch from France who was born on 14 March 1974. She went to Beauxbâtons and met Victor Wreath while working as a lawyer's aide for a small firm in London. The two married but divorced in 2019, with Rosalie moving back to France. She is very tall, blonde, and has rather impeccable fashion sense. She is perhaps not the most socially savvy, but she is doing her best.

If you asked Koko back in 2018, she would tell you the best part about going to Hogwarts was getting away from the rocky relationship she had with her mother. However, throughout the years, Koko has developed a relatively strong bond with her mother, having learned that although the two have had their differences, their mindsets are similar, and they do love each other.

Charles 'Charlie' Wreath — younger brother.

Although she loves him, Charlie is definitely Koko's least favourite Leblanc. He's in his rebellious teenage era, which means he thinks he's better than everyone, and he acts like it, too. Call Koko a hypocrite (she is), but she does not like this new take to him.

He's currently 15, having been born in December 2009, and he's a half-blood who will punch you in the face if you mention his Muggle heritage. He doesn't look much like his father or twin brother, what with his slightly shorter stature, stockier build, sheet-pale skin and shock of bright red hair.

Koko sadly sees more of Charlie than Holmes, whom she likes more. However, she has learned to meet disillusioned sarcasm with dry remarks of her own, so the two get along. Besides, only she is allowed to be bugged by him. If someone else were to have a poor opinion of her little brother, well, Koko doesn't do strength training for nothing.

Vienna Leblanc — aunt.

Vienna is Koko's favourite Leblanc by far—at least, that's what she used to think. Now, she thinks she does love them mostly equally, although she could say she's Vienna's favourite, and Koko is nothing if not self-serving. If being extremely close with her aunt means she can get what she wants, well... surely, no one's going to look down on that, not when family is involved!

Vienna was born and raised in Rioux-Martin, France, having graduated from Beauxbatons. She became a flower arranger, a career her family looked down on her for, but some of her designs went viral (like, in real life), so now she has a few partnerships with fashion design firms. She was born on 25 January 1986 and will wax poetic about being an Aquarius. Koko likes to talk about Astrology with her. Sure, it might be quackery to some, but to them it's just fun.

Vienna has always been extremely supportive, something Koko has appreciated. Although she's expanded her support network, her aunt is still one of the first people Koko will turn to for advice.

Alphonse Leblanc — paternal grandfather.

Alphonse was born 21 July 1933 in Lyon, France, but his family relocated to the rural reaches of the western side of the country with the outbreak of World War II when he was six. Although his pure-blood parents could have easily cast some protective enchantments, the thing about the Leblancs is that they are notorious for being fans of the prettier things in life. They retired from their town home to a country estate, and Alphonse has never looked back.

Koko, for one, is rather pleased by the country estate. It's lovely, and she could spend hours upon hours in the ever-stretching gardens. Her grandfather is a part of the estate to her, and he's one she has only recently become close with. To her surprise, he was an avid Quidditch fan in his youth, and he has been incredibly supportive of her broom-related aspirations. Her beloved Oakshaft 79, in fact, was a gift from him upon her 17^th birthday. Even more of a surprise was that the broom belonged to him and his father before him. It seems an obsession with brooms runs in the family after all.

After Vienna, Alphonse is probably the Leblanc Koko feels like she resonates with the most, but she wouldn't necessarily say she has favourites, just rather shared interests.

Victor Wreath — adoptive father.

Although Koko and her father used to be thick as thieves, the fact that she put a lot of effort into re-connecting with her wizarding culture meant she lost a fair bit of Victor's Muggle-born culture.

Victor was born in Hong Kong in 1973 and moved with his family to the UK when he was eight. He received a letter to Hogwarts and ended up being a Gryffindor; however, he dearly missed his family. He met Rosalie while in London, and he was pleasantly surprised to find that she was a witch with an education, something that mattered hugely to him, as he acquired multiple degrees in the Muggle world after achieving some secondary school equivalency qualifications in further maths, physics and technology. He thought the two were a dream pair, but though their aspirations and family orientation were very similar, such differences in upbringing meant that for Rosalie to be closer with her family in France, a divorce was imminent.

For the first few years, Koko stayed with Victor all year, aside from when she was at Hogwarts, and aside from mandatory trips to see her mother in France. She far preferred Victor's gentle, kind style of parenting, and how he never seemed annoyed with her questions. However, he was always very occupied with work, and eventually, she found she was better able to bond with her family in France. She still cares for her father deeply, but she would not say they are quite so close anymore.

Holmes Wreath — younger brother.

Koko adores Holmes, who was born in December 2009 and currently resides in Coventry, England. He is a part of why she remained in Coventry instead of properly moving to France; she hopes to always remain close to him.

He is tall, skinny, with heavily tanned skin and a rarely styled mop of dark hair over his head. Koko wishes he had better fashion sense (he dresses exactly like you'd expect a Muggle tech bro to dress), but she understands some things take time. When she is at the house in Coventry, she leaves men's fashion magazines in his room when he's not paying attention. He keeps them in a stack on his desk and does occasionally leaf through them.

His quiet nature is something that used to be mirrored in Koko herself; she finds it cute to see it in him even as he ages. Although the two occasionally have their squabbles, they are usually very respectful towards one another and will solve the problem quickly. Holmes is one of the few people Koko would actually buy things for, making him a small tamper on her irreverent selfishness.

Unfortunately, Koko never had the chance to get to know either of her biological parents. She's heard stories, though. Henry was of average height, of mixed American and French descent, and claiming relations to prominent French families, to boot. He comes from a matrilineal line of the Leblanc family that moved to the US to take advantage of the steel boom in the 1800s. The American branch was based on New York, but married with (and took the name) of the American Riddell family (the name later changed), which had branches in Atlanta and Philadelphia.
