Broom Racing HUFFLEPUFF v RAVENCLAW - WINTER 2025

With most of the Hufflepuffs scattered on the ground behind them, it was finally time to fly. Dee had chosen her broom for its speed and agility, selling the Silver Arrow that her grandparents had gifted her years ago with little remorse to afford it. She hummed in agreement to Peri's suggestion, bracing herself for the burst of speed as she held out her hand for him to grasp. It was another reason she loved her Starsweeper, as on most broomsticks, this maneuver meant sacrificing your own momentum to boost your team mate. Yet, between them, they had worked out a variation of it, with just the right curve and distribution of force, that let Peri and Dee perform it while still flying at speed. She didn't think it would be possible on any other broom.

Flexing the muscles in her arm, shoulder, and back, she let Peri hurl her forward, pulling ahead of him and closer to their team mate. "Aurora!" Years of shouting instructions at her duelling team had resulted in a projection that easily let her voice pierce the wind to draw the fifth year's attention, and Dee made a quick gesture, then held out her hand to communicate her intention. Alley-ooping someone else was almost as much fun as hurtling forward herself, and she spun around with a fierce smile, releasing Aurora at just the right moment and then following directly behind, easily dodging through the thorny branches in their way.

A quick glance behind showed that they were drawing away from the Hufflepuffs as planned, with four of the Ravenclaw racers solidly in the lead, and Ari and Brookline following closely behind. Or... not. Dee winced as she watched Brooke fall, turning back to face forward before the young racer hit the ground. The way ahead was delightfully free, except for a few trees... a lot of trees.

It was a competition but seeing @Alyssea Brown falling from the broom hurt his heart. He grimaced, couldn't see her any longer. "It must be painful," he said. But then the corner of his eyes caught something. He turned his head to see the other thing that had happened. His eyes widened as they watched @Brookline Quinn fighting from the Dancing-Feet Spell. He was hopeful that Brooke could fight it as long as she could. But the soldier down. Zach should hope she was still okay. He determined that he should check all of his team members' condition after the race.

But the rest of the team are doing fine. Ari flew quickly with little struggle. Aurora, Dealla, and Pericles were making another surprising move that Zach himself couldn't believe they would do it. Crazy. But if it worked, it worked. Zach record the progress of the race in his note.

In the midst of thinking, Ruth wobbled, losing her train of concentration as she approached the thorns with increasing speed. The girls before her had dodged all of them with ease- Ruth, on the other hand, failed to do so, earning a scratch along her arm. She winced from the sudden pain, wanting to let go of the other hand to lift up her sleeves and check the state of the injury, but she just couldn't.
