Quidditch Fall 2021 Slytherin v Ravenclaw

Surely the game had to be ending soon? Alexx had begun counting her minutes in penalties and failed blatches, bad plays and disappointment. She was measuring time in how many times she heard cheers after she missed. She was measuring time in her own shame and regret. Alexx would rather be anywhere, rather this game be over and done with, yet she was stuck here, wondering which play would go horribly wrong next. Which measly underclassmen would she be once more defeated by.

The game was starting to wind down to its final moments, and Winnie found herself tailing after Aly and River, her eyes narrowed in determination. Still, she couldn't help but wince as she saw Flash and Avery fall from the sky. She knew the two boys, after all, and things felt a bit different once you started recognizing your teammate's victims.

With only a few remaining players on the field, the options were limited. Dancelos, Tyranni, Maggie... they were all down for the count. Even Every had lasted hardly a moment after replacing Koko before joining her upon the pitch bed. On Slytherin's side, only Alexx remained. Perhaps she might have been able to score them a few goals, but at what cost? She had a reputation to repair, and should she redirect her attention to points instead of handling the opposing seeker, it would only guarantee that the birds would win. No, she wouldn't stoop to scraping what points she could. It was all or nothing for her, and she was out for blood.

On the other hand, in a somewhat more breathable position with greater numbers to work with, Ravenclaw could afford to split their attention. Aly still remained doubled up with Ravenclaw's seeker, forced to go where the snitch bade them. However, with Sylvain out for the count, Winnie would take his place.

The bubbly strawberry would take to her broom to join her ken, a green sprout going for a green action. Not that was necessarily a bad thing. As the only one deciding to attend to a previously forgotten quaffle, she had little trouble with it. Even nerves of her grand debut—if she had any—wouldn't shake her poise or lead her to drop the quaffle. Once... twice... thrice would she speed off from centre pitch towards Slytherin's unguarded hoops, the mundane grab and score an effective tactic to shore up some easy points. All of a sudden, Ravenclaw would steal the lead, Winnie's efforts elevating them from fifty to eighty points, and all without breaking a sweat.

Elsewhere, forced to repent for their aggressive tactics, Lavinia and Cecily would take off to complete their laps. They had managed to escape repercussion for a good while there, but it seemed karma had come back to take its toll, offering them no further leeway for their actions. Not that it had mattered. What was done was done, and their successes had crippled the other team. They could fly with their heads held high, knowing their efforts had not been in vain.

It seemed that despite unfathomable odds, Slytherin was willing to fight until the end. Hardly phased by the events, Erin would be quick to score herself control of another bludger. Her target: River. At this point, the only way to win would be to take out the opposing seeker, hinder the birds, and rack up enough points to get ahead before taking out Ravenclaw's second string seeker. Simple, right? Perhaps not. Either way, it started with stopping them in their currently diving tracks.

Winding up, Erin would crack that bat firmly against a bludger to send it straight for River. Or at least... that was the plan. Distracted, hesitant, or perhaps something else... The connection wasn't quite as solid as it normally was, the bludger sent forward a bit off track. Fortunately, by the nature of the enchantments, the projectile would correct its own path towards the seeker as she and her chaperone dove, but it wouldn't be enough. Despite the pair's compromised situation, the bludger would miss, whizzing harmlessly past them, striking for a position now empty.

While her attempt had been unsuccessful, it could still be claimed to have had its use. Fast behind the bludger and fresh from her own penalty, Alexx soared in with a singular goal: dump the seeker. Even a side-blow from a bludger cast at the hand of Emma wouldn't be enough to deter her. It would leave a mark, certainly, the impact enough to shake her seating and send an explosion of sharp pain that wouldn't be missed, but not enough to unseat her entirely. No, Alexx would carry on past the assault for her mark. River and Aly may have managed to avoid being clobbered by Erin's bludger, but they were pinned, escape unlikely. The image of green and silver cut through the sheets of rain, the shadow of a figure growing in size at remarkable speed. Then, dulled only by the rumble of thunder rippling in the distance, Alexx exploded through the pair, scattering Ravenclaws like bowling pins.

There would be no recovery for Aly. Hers would be a fate akin to all the Slytherins before her: a slow and safe descent to the sodden ground once recovery was impossible. River, however, wouldn't be so unlucky. Taking a reprieve from his typical beater duties, Jorah had abandoned his pursuit of a rogue bludger to save his comrade, pulling River safely to his own broom.

For the first time in two years, Ravenclaw could taste victory. One by one, they had dismantled the Slytherin team, putting themselves in a position where winning was all but assured. The meagre resistance still offered by the snakes still had a small chance to make an unexpected come back, but not without some serious luck and skill. Even still, they were throwing everything they had remaining at River.

Unsurprisingly, the whistling of a bludger would sound behind them as the pair—River and Aly astride the trusty broom of the latter—dove in pursuit of the snitch. Caution to the winds, they seemed to leave it up to fate. The bludger whisked by, leaving them unharmed, but the arrival of blatch-queen Alexx would threaten their throne. Unseated by the collision, River would once again find herself falling. For a short time, anyway. But it wouldn't matter. Fallen or not, saved or not, her fingers had finally managed to close in on the source of her motivation. Clutched within her fingers, wings fluttering fruitlessly against her grasp: the snitch. She'd done it. She had finally out-maneuvered the little devil. River had fought and persisted and survived.
She had caught the snitch.

"Séverin, that's a pen— wait, what's that?" The voice of the announcer battled against the roaring plunder of the rain. "Is that... yes it is! That's the snitch! They've done it! Dewlight has caught the snitch! The game is over! Ravenclaw wins!"
