Hufflepuff vs Ravenclaw: Match 3

For a moment, having managed to avoid being hit despite the Dealla's gust off wind having left him totally off-balance, Julian felt some hope that this duel might not be a lost cause. And then both Ravenclaws turned their own wands on Eun-Ji and he watched what little progress he'd made towards evening the playing field disappear, and with it any hope he had of winning the duel. He sighed, raising his wand again and casting a new Incendio Duo in the direction of Eun-Ji, more out of a sense of obligation towards Lydia than because he really cared about hitting the Ravenclaw anymore.
He was still annoyed when, on top of everything, he missed again, putting him even farther behind, but there was no denying that some part of him was secretly glad that he wouldn't have to feel guilty that he kept hitting her with that spell after he'd said he was sorry, even if he was sure it wouldn't be all that different to Eun-Ji. It was, at least, less embarrassing.
Much to his surprise, though, Dealla and Eun-Ji decided to comment on a completely different aspect of his strategy. He shrugged sheepishly.
"I don't think," he said, pausing to push his glasses up his nose. "That we're supposed to entertain our opponents over trying to hit them with our best spells." (Best, in this case, was used very loosely to mean 'effective at duelling'; under no other circumstances would Julian ever call Incendio Duo his best spell). If they were, he certainly had found none of their hits on Lydia particularly entertaining, nor his opponents healing, for that matter.
"But if you're bored... did you know that tardigrades can survive in space for several days? And I mean, space space, in a vacuum." He grinned. His tone wasn't entirely serious, but he wasn't completely joking either. They were Ravenclaws, after all, maybe they would find facts about interesting animals at least a little entertaining.
Action: As strategised.

Nothing can be seen on Dmitri's expression except for a second where he closed his eyes. In his head he had only one thought: thank fricking Merlin.
This set of spells were probably one of the more successful ones of the duel. Firstly, both Ravenclaws were able to land quite devastating blows on the single Hufflepuff they had yet to eliminate. Their spells seemed to empower the other—Eun-ji's well-cast Incendio Duo conjured flames that quickly and merrily spread along the arm of Julian's shirt while Dealla's Ventus succeeded in further enlarging the fire.
Julian, for the most part, while suffering from his injuries, did not let off of the constant Fire-Making spells. The burst of fire ensured quick retaliation as it—once more—burned Miss Lee Hunt.
While holding his own quite well, the Hufflepuff seemed to be worse off than any of his two opponents.
He did seem to be giving up, though, and that is worthy of respect, Dmitri thinks.

Hufflepuff vs Ravenclaw: Match 3

Julian gave a valid objection to her request, but Dee didn't think the two were mutually exclusive. "You only know one good spell?" she asked back, skeptical. "I don't think fire is the only useful spell around. Have you tried the tickling charm? That's one I like, it makes it harder for the opponent to hit you because they're distracted. Or... oh, the blindfolding spell, although that's mostly useful if you have a partner with you. Could have used that one earlier, though." Was she giving her opponent strategy advice in the middle of the duel? Perhaps it was arrogance, but she didn't think it would help him much at this point.
The Hufflepuff, however, chose to liven things up in a different way, and Dee's face scrunched up, trying to keep herself from laughing (and thus suffering a deteriorated aim as caused by aforementioned tickling spell). "What in the world is a tardigrade?" she demanded. Honestly though, that did sound interesting. Huh.
Enough chatter, they were still in the middle of the duel after all, and Dee focused, letting another burst of wind loose at the Hufflepuff. It hadn't helped them hit him earlier, but it was worth another try. Eun-ji had chosen to fight fire with fire, and Dee nodded. It wasn't a bad spell, either.
Julian had still stuck to his trend, and Dee sighed, glancing sideways at an once again flaming Eun-ji. "Just a bit longer," she encouraged. "We almost have him."

Hufflepuff vs Ravenclaw: Match 3
Eun-ji didn’t find it too strange when Dee started giving Julian advice. She was a captain and the raven-haired witch admired her knowledge since day one. She also didn’t really provide the boy with any good strategy for the current circumstances and it was probably more interesting to fight the best version of your opponents so she let her teammate ramble on. In all honesty given how the match was going so far, Eun-ji herself would be very much okay facing someone less skilled than Julian but that was her childish side speaking and she hardly ever listened to that one.
“I believe that’s an animal. Well…if you can call it that.” She chimed in. Given her love for animals, she read a lot of books but she was still somewhat queasy about those that had more than four legs. This meant Eun-ji knew what tardigrade was but she skipped over any details. So... unsightly but tough. Who would have thought? It peaked her interest, that much was clear but she knew there would be no deeper research going into that one. It was also not time to ponder about water animals. Readying her wand she focused on her second attempt of Incendio Duo. If he could do it, so could she.
Oh? Despite her previous conviction, Eun-ji almost didn’t expect to succeed yet the spell actually hit and so did Dee’s Wind Jinx. Unfortunately there was not much time for celebration as a mere second later she found herself on fire as well…AGAIN. At this point, Eun-ji had no idea how she kept herself together. She always found duelling fascinating but she never thought, she’d actually join the team until Mrs. Hunt forced her to do so. It was incredible how the woman always managed to make her life miserable even when she wasn’t present. The witch was pretty sure, she would avoid fires for many days to come after this cursed match. “Just a bit longer…” The other girl tried to encourage her. Gritting her teeth in pain, Eun-ji simply nodded. She didn’t feel like saying anything anymore, she just wanted this to be over.

Hufflepuff vs Ravenclaw: Match 3

Julian did not know one good spell, and he returned Dealla's skeptical glance at the suggestion. That was not at all what he'd said! He'd only suggested that Incendio Duo was his best spell. And it was. At least for the purposes of knocking one of his opponents out as soon as possible. He could see the wisdom in Dealla's spell suggestions, but--well--neither of those spells would serve him well without Lydia.
"I'll keep it mind," he said with a sigh. Dealla was a duelling captain so he didn't want to dismiss her out of hand but, well, he did not see himself winning this duel by just tickling them. He'd, at best, delay the inevitable. (More. He was pretty sure he was already in a situation where winning was impossible.)
This rather bleak outlook made it something of a relief when Dealla and Eun-Ji seemed to accept tardigrades as a conversation topic, although Julian's response was delayed by having to stop to cast some more fire, which--unfortunately? he couldn't tell anymore--struck home. As did both of Dealla's and Eun-Ji's.
For the second time in his life, he was on fire; and struggling to keep his balance, too. If only Dealla's gust of wind would do him the courtesy of putting out the flames on his sleeve. Still, the assertion that tardigrades might not animals was the sort of wrongness that could not go uncorrected, and he found himself speaking through gritted teeth once he thought the flames were mostly gone (spoiler alert: they were not).
"'course they're animals--tiny ones, but still. They're closely related to insects, though they don't look like an insect at all." He had to stop then and breathe through the pain, trying to make sure he was keeping a good stance in case the Ravenclaws started firing again. The lecture on how the tardigrades dehydrated themselves to live through harrowing conditions would have to wait until he was no longer on fire (and possibly until he'd had a chance to visit the Hospital Wing).
Action: As strategised.

Things happened too quickly for Dmitri to be sure exactly what went down.
Julian was fast with his Incendio Duo but Dealla was faster (and stronger) with her own Knockback Jinx. Just a split second before the Hufflepuff was able to sustain the burst of flames that rushed from his wand, the third year Ravenclaw's Flipendo hit him square in the chest, knocking him cleanly off his feet.
In an instant, Julian fell to the ground and wasn't able to get up anymore.
The angry projectile of flame that was making its way quickly to Eun-ji sputtered out in an array of sparks. She, for the most part, seemed to have her previous fiery injuries dealt with with a wonderfully cast Reparifors.
"It seems we have our winners! A round of applause for our Ravenclaws!"
Amidst the roar of cheers and the raucous sound of applause, Dmitri signaled for the medical crew to cart the Hufflepuff boy away to get treated before walking away without another word.
RAVENCLAW IS VICTORIOUS!
