Few sprinkles of snow dust gently floated to the Hogwarts grounds. There was even a slight chill in the air. Winter truly did came, but it'll disappear into Spring like nothing. Everyone's ever so favorite captain made her way down into the racing area, and she had to dust the snow off of her body when she stood long enough in place. She yawned, stretching her arms. She wore a heavy coat, hating the frigid air. "What a shame, it'd be hard to start a fire in this kind of weather." She let out a sigh. Moisture was never good for wood burning. It was times like this that she truly wished a dragon would swoop down and just set everything alight.

"Okay everyone, you know the drill. Racers sit on brooms properly, no showing yourself off to your fans. No early starts. Late starts is a you problem. And uh..." Vale scrunched her eyebrows in an attempt to configure what else to add. How she hated rules. "Remember, it is legal to hurt each other, but to not purposefully kill each other. No matter how fun and exciting that idea is. Again, coffins will be difficult to bring out given these conditions. Everyone's last wishes written down? Good." She didn't wait to hear any objections. She raised her hand, her nails shaped into black claws.

"Racers! Race as if your life depends on it! And it probably does! On your mark-I saw that! You lot ain't no snakes! Back further from the line! Get set!" Vale kept her hand up, enjoying the tense silence it brought. "GO!" She waved her arm down, in time with her shout. The race was finally on.

Finally, it was time. Though, excited would not be the correct term for this. Terrified, maybe, but even that felt like an understatement. Alyssea sincerely hoped no one could see the fear plastered on her face for the sake of her team. This would be the first time since George's resignation that Hufflepuff would fly with one of their captains. She practiced enough, maybe even more than was considered healthy, in the hopes she could pull her weight.

Alyssea looked to her teammates and gave them each a smile. It was a bummer to lose Dorion after Christmas, but at least most of them stayed. She could trust them to pull through. She just had to prove herself this time.

It was time for another broom racing competition, this time between Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw. In all honesty, it felt to Paige that she had only just hopped off her broom from the last race. But she wasn't complaining, broom racing was her passion and she no doubt loved it.

She hoped she was prepared this time, but really only time would tell. But for now at least, she was ready. Or as ready as she could be I suppose.

𝕽uth wasn't sure if signing up was a good thing. She cast a look towards the Ravenclaw racers, all unfamiliar faces that just further confirmed that they might not be from her year. All of a sudden, being one of the representatives of her house for broom racing was a daunting challenge.

In a nutshell, the idea of letting her teammates and house down was becoming ever more realistic by the minute. She gripped her broom and looked towards Alyssea's direction, smiling back at her. It felt feigned and hinted at the anxiety written all over her face. Inhaling a breath, Ruth shook the jumpy feeling away. Just try your best, and you'll be fine. Hopefully.

Then she took a look at the stands, piling up with spectators. She could glimpse @Pamela Graham and her flowing hair, and wait- was that @Aurelia Valentine, come here to possibly cheer her on? Ruth could feel her smile grow bigger, but it didn't settle the churning guilt that she might let them down.

Today would mark Pericles' first race, and evidently, the sixth-year supposed a special occasion called for a showy entrance. The animagus arrived in the form of a white eagle, executing a lazy loop above the stands before joining his fellow racers. He resumed human shape as he landed, leather boots striking snow with a wet crunch. His armor was painted in loyal bronze and blue, house crest embossed above his heart, and a set of silver winged goggles strapped to his brow. The more striking eyepiece lay in his socket itself. Unlike the sleepy silver on the left, his rightmost eye had been replaced by a golden mechanism. The enchanted prosthetic occasionally diverted from its neighbor- rolling towards his team, to the track, to the bleachers, before locking ahead again.

The Ravenclaw made a point to playfully jostle @Dealla Prince's arm with his as he joined her at the starting line. The smirk he slid her way was sly, though his stare was soft, marked with the unspoken fondness of an old ally. They had proven quite a force in Duelling. He expected this would be no different. A comradely smile wandered over the rest of his team, and when he turned to take in their opponents, he cupped his mouth to call "Happy flying, Hufflepuff." Polite, as ever, though the blueblood didn't plan to remain so mellow once they were in the air.

Having just come off a win, Simon felt pretty confident up there on his broom as he waited for the signal start of the race. If they would have lost? He would have still felt invigorated. There was something about racing through the wind that Simon simply adored.

He was positioned next to AngelFyre. "We've got this, badgers," he said as he had said many times before at the beginning of a race, but he meant the encouragement every time. They practiced well, they prepared. They could do this. Might he odds be in their favor today because he knew their opponent could be a challenging one this time around.

Before they began, he reached out, taking her hand into his to squeeze three times.

Here he was again, in the broom racing tracks. Zach looked at each of Ravenclaw racers one by one, making sure that everyone was ready. "Let's do our best today," Zach gave them a quick smile until his eyes caught the yellow attributes with the corner of his eyes. The smile that he used to give in the Hospital Wing as the intern slowly faded away, turning into a serious stern. "I wish you guys a good luck," Zach said, sending them away. The Co-Captain looked at his team with mixed feeling: proud, anxious, and hope.

Matilde was beyond ecstatic for her second broom race. She couldn’t have imagined her first match would have gone as well as it did. This match would certainly be different, with her new sliver arrow, courtesy of the Hufflepuff team, and playing against the Ravenclaw team.

Upon approaching the track, Matilde greeted her teammates and surveyed the competition. She was slightly surprised to see Pericles Dralt. She had raced against him in an unofficial race almost a year ago now. She cringed at the memory- she’d tried and failed to cast a dancing feet spell on him while he sent a healing spell her way. Matilde gave him a shy wave. She certainly didn’t expect he was going to offer her team such amiability this game.

Matilde focused back on the track ahead, ready to start.

Stepping onto the racing track, Dee stomped on the ground a few times, disturbing the slight dusting of snowflakes slowly falling around them. The ground was hard and dry - not the most auspicious for those among them who would doubtlessly fall of their brooms during this race, but she supposed it was better than landing in mud.

True to form, she gave @Zach Zaphiere a cheerful two finger salute at his encouragement. "Aye aye, cap'n," she quipped, only slightly mocking. "No luck needed. Eagles fly better than badgers any day." The fact that they had lost to the snakes during their last race in autumn and her argument was thus clearly flawed went happily ignored.

The friendly nudge was returned by bumping her shoulder into @Pericles Dralt's arm as they lined up in front of the starting line, sending her ponytail swinging. The ends of her hair faded into blue today, curtesy of a colour changing charm, and clearly declaring her house allegience. When had Peri grown so tall, anyway? Where was her height? Didn't he know how to share? This didn't seem fair.

"Nervous?" she asked with a flash of a grin. Unlikely, or at least he wouldn't show it, but Dee, at least, was glad he was here. Despite her bluster at the last race, she felt infinitely more comfortable with her old partner at her side. There were few people she trusted to always have her back, and Peri was at the top of the list, and they'd been training together ever since he'd made the team, picking up and adapting their duelling dynamics and rituals without missing a beat. That didn't stop her from needling him about his blatant encouragement of their enemies, voice loud enough to be overheard by anyone who cared to. "Stop being so nice. We're supposed to crush them under our heels, remember?"

xxx𝕭rookline yawned sadly as she consistently grabbed hold of her quick messy horrific-looking French braid. It looked as if she had just bounced out of bed and braided her ‘bed-head’ hair. Normally, the Welsh pure-blood girl would never ever go in public like this but she got out of bed late because she didn’t go to sleep til late last night. Personally she didn’t care. She didn’t care because she knew her father wouldn’t give a single thought about her hair. So why should she care? Brookline didn’t want to become attached and she didn’t want to give it another thought.

As Brookline headed to over to her teammates, she shivered and cast a glance at the Hufflepuff racers. The only one she recognized was @Simon Kincaid a fifth year boy whom she met in her first year. She offered a small smile to the Hufflepuff before turning back to her teammates.

Gosh, it still hurts to smile. Brookline thought as she gazed listlessly at the broom racing track, it was her second race and she wasn’t ready. When would she ever be?

“BROOKLINE, LET'S GO!”

A familiar voice startled her out of her stupor. A Gryffindor girl waved at her, and hope rose within her. The girl was @Sere Nade and Brookline was surprised. Instead of a cold shiver. hope trickled up her spine. She quickly waved up to her Gryffindor friend, before locking in. No matter how emotionless she felt, she still had to keep her emotions in check. Brookline could do that...right?

	Finally, it was time. Though, excited would not be the correct term for this. Terrified, maybe, but even that felt like an understatement. Alyssea sincerely hoped no one could see the fear plastered on her face for the sake of her team. This would be the first time since George's resignation that Hufflepuff would fly with one of their captains. She practiced enough, maybe even more than was considered healthy, in the hopes she could pull her weight. Alyssea looked to her teammates and gave them each a smile. It was a bummer to lose Dorion after Christmas, but at least most of them stayed. She could trust them to pull through. She just had to prove herself this time.

	Today would mark Pericles' first race, and evidently, the sixth-year supposed a special occasion called for a showy entrance. The animagus arrived in the form of a white eagle, executing a lazy loop above the stands before joining his fellow racers. He resumed human shape as he landed, leather boots striking snow with a wet crunch. His armor was painted in loyal bronze and blue, house crest embossed above his heart, and a set of silver winged goggles strapped to his brow. The more striking eyepiece lay in his socket itself. Unlike the sleepy silver on the left, his rightmost eye had been replaced by a golden mechanism. The enchanted prosthetic occasionally diverted from its neighbor- rolling towards his team, to the track, to the bleachers, before locking ahead again. The Ravenclaw made a point to playfully jostle @Dealla Prince's arm with his as he joined her at the starting line. The smirk he slid her way was sly, though his stare was soft, marked with the unspoken fondness of an old ally. They had proven quite a force in Duelling. He expected this would be no different. A comradely smile wandered over the rest of his team, and when he turned to take in their opponents, he cupped his mouth to call "Happy flying, Hufflepuff." Polite, as ever, though the blueblood didn't plan to remain so mellow once they were in the air.
