Appearance

As of the start of her third year, EmmaLee is 5'2 with curly, white blonde hair that reaches down to her mid-thighs. She usually has it half up in two ponytails, letting the other half cascade down her back. She has pale skin, a spatter of dark freckles across her nose, and angular features. When not in her neat school robes, she generally wears dresses in a modest cottage core or Victorian style with the skirts just below the knees so she has plenty of running around room.

12.7 inches is a rather long wand. Interesting that it found it's way into the hands of such a small girl. Wizards who own commonly big wands are moved by emotions in most cases and have big personalities. They also tend to have dramatic styles of magic. These wands work well for selfless owners, who use their magic for serving others.

Wood:hornbeam wood
Hornbeam is a white, ivory looking wood that is fit for more refined tastes.

Hornbeam tends to gravitate towards wizards or witches with a single, pure passion, which will almost always be realized.
These wands bond more closely, more quickly with their owners than almost any other wand and are highly sensitive and adaptive to their owner's quirks and morals. So much so that it can be near impossible for anyone else to use that wand for even the most simple of spells. They will adapt very strongly to their owners code of ethics and will often refuse to cast spells, good or bad, that go against their owner's principles, even if it is the owner trying to cast them. Their success in different magic areas depends highly on their owner's drive making it over all a highly personal and loyal wand wood.
Hornbeam owners are generally wise and contentious people who are humble and kind. They are usually less concerned with competition and more concerned with their solo hobbies and goals, working towards beating personal bests instead.
Hornbeam wands have an astounding stamina, having the ability to cast spells that last longer than any other wood type.
It is also highly incompatible with fairy related cores and extremely disliked by fairies, so Hornbeam wand owners should be weary of fairy attacks.
Iron is the most compatible metal to use with hornbeam wood as embellishments or a handle.

Core: thunderbird tail feather

The tail feather of the Thunderbird was used as a wand core by the American wandmaker Shikoba Wolfe. These wands were known to be powerful but difficult to master and were especially good for transfiguration and divination work, as well as, elemental and summoning magic. These wands are also said to be able to sense danger, like their donors, and they have been known to pre-emptively cast curses on their own when supernatural dangers are present.

Like the Thunderbird, owners of these wands tend to be generally quiet, but loud when they need to be. They tend to be persistent and brave, but may get too caught up in ambitions and feelings to think about the consequences of their actions. Due to this personality, they tend to be competitive and extremely curious, always looking for the next thing to win or puzzle to solve. Additionally, they do not like being restrained in action or thought and can be "wild spirits", so to speak, that are highly ambitious and want to go where ever their interests take them. This unrestrained attitude generally means that they are always very open-minded and willing to explore many avenues and possibilities before they act and they are great mediators amongst their friend groups. They also tend to be highly spatially intelligent and unnervingly accurate, making them very good at long range sports and magic.

Overall, this is a beautiful, powerful, white colored wand that fits a wizard or witch of strong moral character and will. A person with a singular, almost distracting passion in life who is a good friend and a good person to have on your side in a fight. Someone who is not out to get anyone, but is better to have on your side. It is a wand that will singularly bond to a person who is competitive and focused on their goals, but also humble and kind in both defeat and victory. Their wild spirits and singular focus can cause some strain in their studies and personal relationships, but they try to have only the best of intentions.

I was born on the 21st of March, 2011 in Paris, France. I lived there with my mother, Celeste, and my father, Nicolas, who were both pure-blood.

My father had been a great potions master in Paris, but when I was three, his lab exploded due to an experimental potion he was trying to make. My father had a potions shop in Place Cachée, the wizarding section of Paris. In the basement of that building was his potions lab where he brewed his regular stock of potions and tried to make new potions. The two floors above his shop was where we lived.
The explosion took out the whole building with him inside. Everything was destroyed because it imploded and collapsed inward. We couldn't even recover his body due to the damage. My mother was able to recover a few sentimental things from the very upper floor, but anything under that was crushed completely. My mother won't talk about it, but from what I have been able to gather from news articles, our building was miraculously the only one affected and after the rubble was cleaned up, it was rebuilt into a bakery. Any muggles who might have seen anything were obliviated.
Thankfully, my mother had decided to take me to the park that day and we were unharmed.
She gathered what she could and after my father's funeral, we moved to the town I grew up in in the south of France. I don't know if the non-magies knew that we were witches or not, but we were the only witches in town and my mother did hide her magic while we lived there.

While we lived there, my mother was a herbalist and owned a shop where she sold natural (unmagical) remedies and spices. She became well known as someone you could go to for advice and someone who seemed to know what was going to happen before it did (not a seer, but more like incredibly honed intuition or sixth sense. I wouldn't be surprised to find actual eyes in the back of her head one day.) It is a beautiful little town where everyone takes care of each other and we used to play music in the square and have town feasts on Sundays. I miss it so much and I was very happy there.

One of my favorite things about my the town I grew up in was the music that was played in the square on Sundays. Anyone with an instrument would meet and play whatever they felt like playing together.
I used to dance and sing nonsense lyrics with them when I was a toddler and my favorite instrument was Tante Alura's cello. I would sit in front of her and watch her play while my mother sat next to her and played her violin.
When I was 5, Tante Alura came by our cottage on my birthday and told my mother that she would be willing to teach me cello in exchange for some of my mother's remedies. She had a cello that I could use already and just needed my mother's permission to start.
I learned from her every Tuesday and Thursday until we moved with Victor to America. Then I continued lessons after that and am still playing cello today.
For my 11th birthday, Victor bought me a new, sky blue colored cello and he told me that once I started school, he would teach me the shrinking and growing spells so that I could take it with me where ever I wanted to go.

When I was 7, I was walking home in a heavy rainstorm when I heard frantic meowing. The small creek near my house had risen above it’s normal, calm level. The higher water and a particularly tall rock in the middle of the creek had created a little island just short of the bridge. On that island was a grey kitten cowering and wailing in the storm. It was stuck on the little island, unable to jump across the now quickly moving water.
I went down to the shore and carefully waded into the waist- deep water, holding onto the edge of the bridge. Although the water was going very fast and I almost slipped a couple of times, I was able to grab the kitten from the island and I took it home, dried it off, and made it warm . Maman let me keep her and I named her Minx. She has been my constant companion ever since.

One day when I was 8, a man came to town, Victor LaChance. He became infatuated with my mother and when he found out that she was a witch and he was a wizard, he started to court her. After a while he married my mother and then took us to America, because that is where he actually lived and worked. To this day I am still not quite sure what he does, but it makes him a lot of money. He is kind and very obviously loves my mother, so, while he is not my father, he seems to be the next best thing. He treats me like his own daughter and is also kind to me. He doesn't have any other children and had not been married before my mother, so sometimes I wonder if they will have any more kids and I might get a sibling.

Shortly after I moved to America, I made friends with a group of children playing in the garden area of the condo we had moved to. On the inside and outside, the condo complex looked like every other complex in the city, well, the older ones, but it only accepted applications from wizards and you had to use a special code and a personal key to get inside. It was a square building with stacks of condos surrounding a large garden area in the middle. My new friends names were Alura, Grace, and Kiernan.
The first day after I met these three, we were playing around in the garden when an older girl walked up behind me, pulled me up from the ground by my braid and told me to get out of “her" garden. Apparently this girl had been bullying all of the younger children since she had moved into the building.
When she pulled me to standing, I whirled around and bit her hand as hard as I could. The girl released me in shock but came back almost immediately with a fist and punched me right in the nose. The was blood everywhere and when our parents found out we both got in trouble for fighting, but the older girl was grounded for a month and forced to leave everyone alone after that.

One of our favorite games was pretending that we were detectives. We would make up mysteries to solve in the condo building and in the various wooded areas of Central Park. I was never afraid to explore the park after dark or go down into the cellar or broiler room in order to solve our latest mystery. Honestly, I was usually the instigator in exploring all of the creepiest places of the old building. Whenever Alura and Grace decided that it was too dark, or too dusty, or too whatever to go forward, I pressed on, sometimes alone. Aside from the mysteries we planted themselves, like finding Kiernan's bear over and over again, we solved some really cool random mysteries because I was just too curious to back down from a lead, especially when it involved finding out the history of the condo building.

When I was 10, Victor's business took him to Scotland. I hate moving. I get settled where I am and I like it there. I didn't like moving from France and my quaint little town and I had just gotten used to living in New York, and the idea of going to Ilvermorny liked Victor had, instead of Beaxbatons like my parents, when I was told we were moving again. After we had moved into our new house just outside of Glasgow, my mother tried to cheer my up by taking me to the beach. It was alright and I was having a pretty good time until a particularly big wave crashed over me as I was walking along the shore. I screamed in frustration and anger at the whole situation and a nearby rock exploded. My mother rushed over, scooped me up in her arms, and tried to calm me down. Thankfully, there was no one else on the beach that day, so authorities didn't have to get involved.

A year later, I received my Hogwarts acceptance letter and my mother and Victor decided to make a day of going to get my supplies. He told me that I would receive nothing less than the best day ever. Victor seemed even more excited about the idea than me so it was hard not to get excited as well, even though I was still upset that I was not going to Ilvermorny with my American friends.
We headed to Olivander's first to get my wand and it was an interesting experience. I tried a few short wands, a wand with unicorn hair, and one with dragon heartstring, but when all of those caused some kind of explosion or just didn't light at all, Mr. Olivander looked at me very closely, and said, "Maybe you need a wand of a different color." Then he headed to the very back of his shop and brought out a beautifully decorated box. It had a painted Thunderbird on the top and interesting symbols around it that I could not identify.
"This is not my wand. "He said, tapping the box and opening it. "I don't sell a lot of wands that I have not made myself, but this wand came into my possession by gift from a very talented wandmaker quite a few years ago. They wanted me to examine it for quality and it is quite a quality wand. Hornbeam wood with a thunderbird core. 12.7 inches. Give it a try." He said, pulling it out of the box and handing it to me. It was a beautiful, smooth, white wand with an iron handle. The handle had swoops going around the wand that looked like streams of water. The bottom of the wand had a small, white diamond on the bottom of it, that twinkled in the candle-light of the shop.
I took it from Mr. Olivander, a little bit afraid that it was going to reject me again, but to my surprise, once the wand touched my hand it warmed my entire arm and sent out a shower of beautiful yellow fireworks in the shape of a Thunderbird and Victor laughed out loud as the sparks shimmered out and the room became still again.
"What's so funny?" I asked, excited to receive my wand, but confused why my step-father was laughing at me.
"I'm sorry. I just find this whole thing amusingly serendipitous." He said, wiping his eyes and turning to the older man. "This is Shikoba Wolfe's work is it not?" Olivander nodded.
"Yes, it is." He said. Victor turned to me. Victor then explained that he also had a Shikoba Wolfe wand with a thunderbird core. He explained to me that his family was Delaware Native American and that his family had been buying wands from Shikoba Wolfe for generations so it was amazing that I had ended up with one here in London.

Mother: FC: Unnamed JJ's House Model Celeste LaChance née LeDames ~Celeste LeDames is a pure-blood French witch who attended Beauxbatons in OmbreLune house. She fell in love with Nicolas LeDames in their fifth year and married shortly after graduation in 2010. After a year of marriage, they had one daughter, EmmaLee. Nicolas died when his potions workshop exploded and Celeste moved her and her daughter to Castelmoron-d'Albret, a small town in the south of France, where they lived until Victor LaChance came into their lives. She was born June 29, 1993. ~Celeste is a wise and intuitive woman, whom many refer to as an 'old soul'. Many who know her seek her out for advice. She is one of those Sherlock Holmes-esque people who seem to observe more about people and situations than is normal and can connect the dots with stunning accuracy. She is not a seer. Just has very high intuition and observational skills. She made money in Castelmoron-d'Albret by selling non-magical herbal remedies but she knows a fair amount about magical herbal remedies as well. ~ Her wand is ivy and unicorn hair. A wand that is very consistent in it's magic and made for a witch or wizard with tenacity, stamina and endless patience. ~The LeDames family passes down their surname matrilineally. There has not been a male LeDames born in ten generations.

Step Father: FC: Jeffery Dean Morgan Victor LaChance ~Victor LaChance is a half-blood American wizard who belongs to the Delaware (Lenape) Native American tribe. He attended Ilvermorny in Thunderbird house and graduated in 2004. He was born July 30, 1987. He never married or really dated very seriously until he went to France on a business trip and stumbled upon Celeste LeDames. He became infatuated with her and started to court her. After a while of dating, he proposed marriage and Celeste accepted. He also 'proposed' to her daughter, EmmaLee, in a gesture to make sure that the girl was ok with her mother marrying him. Even though she liked Victor, she was very upset at having to move to America with him. ~Victor is a very successful business man in America, but his business has taken him and his family to Scotland for the foreseeable future. Hence why EmmaLee is attending Hogwarts. ~ Victor is a kind and honest man who is not afraid to speak up in any situation. He is not afraid to go after what he wants or what he thinks is best for his company or family. He is a larger man. ~Nicolas Insomnieux was a lean, tall, studious pure-blood wizard who attended Beauxbatons in OmbreLune house. He started dating Celeste LeDames in their fifth year, married her, and had EmmaLee. He was the single best potions student in his year and studied hard under their professeur in order to become a potions master himself. When his small family began, he took them to Paris in order to study under even more skilled potions masters and open his own potions shop.
~When his daughter was three, his potions lab exploded due to some new potion he was making. The lab had been in the basement, the shop on the ground floor, and his home on the upper two floors of the building. This explosion brought the whole building down on top of Nicolas. Thankfully, Celeste had taken EmmaLee to the park and the market that morning and they were very clear of any harm.
It is rumored that the explosion was not an accident, but no formal investigation was ever made due to Celeste holding Nicolas' funeral and leaving very abruptly and never being heard from again in Paris.
~His family is an old, French pureblood family with old pureblood values. Celeste has not spoken to them since before her marriage to Nicolas. His family did not attend Nicolas's wedding, nor his funeral. Because of the LeDames family's beliefs, the Insomnieux do not consider the LeDames family to be pureblood and therefore, their son is a disgrace for not marrying the girl they wanted him to. No one in the Insomnieux family has met EmmaLee.
~ Celeste has told EmmaLee that Nicolas was a kind and excited man. He was excited about their marriage and life and having a family and his work. He a man who was very happy to be alive every second of the day. He was ecstatic when EmmaLee was born and doted on her in every single way he could. EmmaLee only remembers that he was a thin man with dark hair and glasses and that he hated ties.

Appearance

Yasha is very, VERY tall for his age, 5'7 (and he will grow a couple inches every year until he is 7'2 at 20), very thin, and pale. He has black hair that is cut short and neatly kept with a lock of his hair constantly covering his right eye. This eye has congenital cataracts and he is blind in this eye. It is an all over pale blue color. People find it unnerving, so he hides it. His left eye is a brilliant green. He is the very picture of a pureblood heir with neat clothes and appearance at all times.

Yasha is quiet and reserved to everyone on the outside who hasn't actually interacted with him. He is the kind of quite where sometimes he sneaks up on people without meaning to, almost invisible despite his height. He knows a lot of other people's secrets because of this tendency to accidentally overhear people before they notice him coming. Mostly he keeps these quite, but leverage is always useful in his family's world.

He is polite and well-spoken with adults and people whom he thinks he ought to befriend for political purposes. He is very surface level with most people and downright antagonistic towards his peers. Preferring to cut to the chase and move on with what he actually wants to do, as he feels like people only talk to him when they want something from him. He doesn't really think he is better than anyone, he just thinks most people aren't worth his time and isn't afraid to let them know that. He is definitely the kind of person to talk in riddles in order to not have a real or deep conversation with anyone and does enjoy getting a rise out of someone who is annoying him. The louder people stomp when they walk away, the better.

If you can get past the biting comments and the perfect son façade, Yasha is quite soft and can be gentle and romantic. If he considers you family or a close friend, he would burn cities for you to be happy and healthy, or, y'know, wear a tiara to your fake tea party because his cousin asked him to.

History

Yasha was born on October 31, 2010 near St. Petersburg to Olexei and Alyona Volkov. His parents have a happy marriage, but due to his father's job and his mother's health, Yasha and Alyona live in their country home. This country home, the Volkov Dacha, is very secluded out in the middle of nowhere and three generations of Volkovs live there currently.

His first instance of magic was after his one year birthday party at their country home. He was so tired from the festivities that he ended up throwing an exhaustive temper tantrum in the middle of serving cake. He hit his fist on the table of his highchair, the ground shook, and a hole opened up under the cake table. The table and half of the cake fell into the hole.

When Stalin rose to power and abolished magic in 1928, the Volkovs decided to live double lives. They had been well off members of high society during the time before Stalin and they were able to more or less keep their position in high society by swearing allegiance to Stalin. In their "official" homes and lives, they striped themselves of magic and lived like маглы. Generally, the adults who could control their magic and participate in politics lived within the city.

They sent their children, their widows, and the older women to the Volkov Dacha near Murmansk. It was a vast compound far outside of the city, so the children could learn magic and, more importantly, how to control it. In this way, Yasha and his cousins grew up all together in a more or less group house. Their grandmother and some of the older women of the family who's husband's had either retired, passed on, or they had not found a husband were in charge of raising and teaching the children the ways of magic, Russian politics, and the Volkov family values. Most of the children were sent to Koldovstoretz once they had learned to control their magic and once they had been taught who a Volkov was and what a Volkov believes.

After the Soviet Union fell, the Volkovs turned again and claimed to have only agreed with Stalin in order to protect themselves. Even though practicing magic was safe once again, the Volkovs continued to send their children to the Dacha because it had become a sort of family compound. Everyone in the family who didn't have a job in the city lived in the Dacha or in smaller houses around the property.
