Two days later, EmmaLee was still glowing from her team's win against Gryffindor. Sure, she had fainted towards the end of the match, but they had won! And better yet, all of Hufflepuff had won. The glorious Blazing Badgers had won every single match they were in.

Her excitement about winning aside, apparently EmmaLee had less of a constitution than she thought and that would have to be remedied ASAP. She was shocked at how fast she had been weakened and then knocked out, but on top of that, she was also the last of the duelists to wake up in the hospital wing, waking up in the evening to an almost empty wing. That really wouldn't do for any matches going forward. Alyssea had been a wonderful teammate in healing her when she had been hit by both her own spell and Estelle's, but she couldn't rely on Alyssea's healing spells every match. She had needed the pick me up after only two hits and that was just.... embarrassing. She needed to work on her stamina pretty badly.

Which was one of the reasons why she was here this afternoon.

There were probably a lot of ways that she could work out and she would definitely seek those out as well, but the most logical route was some good old fashioned dueling training. Just like finger exercises on her cello were important for building strength and dexterity when playing, so would practicing dueling make her stronger. Though she didn't quite have a plan yet for how exactly she was supposed to take a hit better when she was practicing alone, she would cross that bridge once she got inside the practice room.

As she approached the door to the practice room, she could hear that someone else was already way ahead of her. She could hear the sounds of spells being cast and as she pushed open the door, she saw none other than Raizel Valtrouz practicing their craft.

She knew that Raizel had been the last of the Gryffindors standing in their match, which hadn't surprised EmmaLee in the least. Raizel was a fighter, as she had displayed in April in her jousting match against Stephen. EmmaLee had meant to tell the girl at some point that she she had admired her effort in that match and honestly her outfit also, but they had never really crossed paths again until the duel and even though Hufflepuffs and Gryffindors had classes together, EmmaLee just hadn't ever seemed to be able to catch her when she thought about talking to her. Even further, why would a girl as cool as Raizel want to bother with a ghost like EmmaLee.

Mmmmm...maybe she would come back when the other girl didn't look so busy. She started to turn around and close the door but stopped herself short of fully walking off. Wait... no... if EmmaLee had learned anything in the past few months it was that things spoken were definitely better than things left unsaid, even if they made you feel awkward and dumb and especially if it was something good about a person. Also, she really wasn't going to make any real friends here if she didn't speak up for herself.

Stuffing down her anxious thoughts about maybe Raizel would think she was annoying or arrogant for bothering her after winning their match, EmmaLee shyly stepped into the room, closed the door behind her, and waited for a good moment to interrupt the other girl. When the opportunity presented itself she gave a little wave and called, "Ah, um, 'Ello, Raizel. I was wondering if I could speak to you for a moment." She said, twisting the cuffs of her school robes nervously in her hands.

What a week this is. First a loss in that unofficial race and then a disaster in that official duel. Sure enough, that would tick someone off and Raizel is not an exemption. Her mood had been sour ever since then, feeling nothing but frustration not just at the results, but at herself for not being good enough. While she did show how resilient she was in both of those events, trying her best despite how hurt she was, she was still knocked out cold in the end.

“Flipendo!” Anger filled her voice with that incantation, her emotions fuelling the resulting spell, giving it more force as it hit the practice dummy. She had been practicing ever since classes had ended, discarding her robe and placing them on the sides along with her satchel, leaving her in a simple red shirt, black pants and shoes. It was better to practice this way as the robe would certainly get in the way. A sigh escaped her lips, shaking her head. No, she must have a clear mind if she wants to cast better spells and not to mention, she needs to keep her emotions in check.

She can't let anyone see how things get to her, she must remain strong. And that's what she did, gained her composure back and started firing different spells. She made a quick gesture with her wand before speaking clearly. “Ventus!” While it was impressive how she could cast an advance spell like that, she can't help but remember how she failed to do so during her duel, even this time it was still… lacking. The force of the wind wasn't that strong and she could bet anyone could've dodged that. She needs to be faster, stronger.

She stood there while catching her breath, thinking about things she could improve, how she could put more power in her spells, how she could take someone out in just one hit. Duelling is a team sport but after her previous duel, she is better off if she could stand and handle things on her own. The Gryffindor was so caught up in her own thoughts that she's completely unaware of anyone entering the duelling club. Not to mention, it's a huge place and most of the time, it's crowded.

Her grip tightened on her wand, eyes on the training dummy as she prepared for another spell. “Incendio Duo!” This time, it was a stream of strong flames that she sent towards the dummy, scorching its surface as the fire quickly engulfed it in one shot. Still, she didn't seem satisfied, making her grit her teeth in a bit of annoyance but before she could try again, she was interrupted by someone, making her turn her head.

EmmaLee LeDames… was it? She's not the best at remembering names and maybe remembering faces as well but she's not the type of person who would forget who she had dueled against. Hufflepuff Duellist, the one she knocked out thanks to the backfiring spells and one of her own teammates. “What's up?” She asked back as the girl seemed to want to speak to her which was surprising. Normally, people rarely interact with her, especially those that she doesn't hang out with often or talk to on a daily basis and her interactions with non-friends always ended up in a fight for some reason. Surely this girl doesn't have a beef with her. They won that duel for goodness sake! While yes, she did knock her out but still! “Can I help you?” A curious look was present in her eyes when she added that question.

EmmaLee started a little and clasped her worrying hands behind her back. For some reason she hadn't really expected Raizel to turn towards her and speak. Why was she so nervous? It wasn't as if there was anything to be afraid of. She'd never seen Raizel be particularly unkind, but then, she really only saw the other girl in classes. Maybe it was just the old nerves of talking to someone new in general and the fact that most of the time when she tried to talk to people, they didn't seem to hear her. She'd never been particularly good at making actual friends and her troubles in making solid friendships at Hogwarts so far just continued that old pattern. Aaaaanywho, she should probably say something, right? Instead of meandering in her own head.

"I ah, actually, I 'ave been wanting to tell you since the Spring Ball that I thought you did really well in the jousting match. I was there to watch my friend Stephen, who was your opponent, but I thought you were really good against 'im. I also thought your outfit for the ball was really cool." She said, just a little bit too fast and rocking back and forth on her heels nervously. The speed and nervousness made her accent slightly thicker. "I just 'aven't found a good opportunity until now." She continued, catching herself and slowing down so that she could speak clearly and forcing herself to stand still.

She hadn't recognized Raizel at the ball as one of her year, but she hadn't forgotten the girl once they got back to their regularly scheduled classes and EmmaLee had been surprised that she hadn't noticed the determined brunette before. EmmaLee was as good at noticing and remembering things about people as her mother and over the past few months, she had come to admire and respect Raizel more as she saw the girl in class.

Before this it hadn't really been in a "I want to be her friend" way, but more in a "that girl is really cool and talented" kind of way. Normally she would just admire a person like Raizel from afar, but after her conversations with Kiernan over the summer, she had decided to be more open about her good opinions about people. If she liked someone's dress, or hair, or jewelry, she tried to express it to them right then. If she thought someone was doing a good job or was talented at something, she tried to tell them that, too. She was, ah, getting better at it, but still found expressing herself to others a bit embarrassing.

"Um, I also wanted to say that I think you did well in our duel. I was very excited to duel against you." She finished sheepishly. "I think you are a great sports person." She smiled warmly at the other girl, inwardly hoping she hadn't blabbed too much.

She looked… nervous, EmmaLee that is, making Raizel wonder why. What is she gonna say? Why is she nervous in the first place? Not like the Gryffindor is that scary. Okay, maybe she can be a bit scary when she starts getting too serious but she only looks that way when she's duelling or when she had enough and people had pushed her to the limits, maybe when she's studying on her own too but not like a lot of people had actually seen her studying hard, she made sure of that. Did she give her a nasty look before? Maybe during the official duel. That's… probably not a good first impression though.

While those are running in her mind, Raizel still remained calm while waiting for what the Hufflepuff wanted to tell her and what came after was… unexpected. Spring Ball, jousting, Stephen, it took a while before she put those pieces together as Spring Ball was like months ago. So EmmaLee wanted to tell her… she was good and cool that day? “O-Oh.” Raizel was quite astonished, not expecting a compliment, especially at a random time like this. She's been wanting to tell her that too ever since then! Talk about some dedication if she still remembers it until now.

“Thanks I guess…” Raizel had somehow forgotten her frustration at the things that had happened in her life so far, taken aback by the girl's honesty and she will admit, she has courage to take this chance to finally say what's in her mind. The Gryffindor lightly scratched her cheek, a small and embarrassed smile on her face, showing how she is not the type of person that's used to being told nice things about herself but she does mean the thank you though and deep inside, it warmed her heart.

As far as Raizel knows, she's not one of those stereotypical Gryffindors that other people seem to believe they are. Sure, she shows some courage and determination when the situation demands it but as far as she knows, she's nothing but a mere side character. Knowing that someone actually took notice of her was unbelievable. EmmaLee continued, mentioning the duel that they had, making her chuckle. “You were? Well, I sure hope I did give you quite a duel.” She doubts that though. They were no match for Hufflepuff that time, it was mere luck that she even managed to knock someone out in that 3v1 situation. “You guys were amazing as well, maybe even more than us.” Their teamwork was something that she felt jealous of during that time, wishing that maybe, she could eventually find people she could have the same level of teamwork with soon. Maybe that's a sign that she should probably talk more to the people in Gryffindor's duelling team.

EmmaLee beamed at Raizel's response. She'd done it and gotten it out despite her nervousness at talking to the girl and it was turning into a good conversation. Check one in being less anxious about starting conversations in general. She always seemed to find herself being pulled into conversations and those were a lot easier to handle than starting one of her own and it seemed like a good portion of her encounters with people lately were antagonistic. So she was glad that a compliment was taken for a compliment here, instead of the girl getting mad and offended for whatever reason random people chose to get offended lately when she talked with them.

EmmaLee put the breaks on her line of thinking before it went south and pulled her brain back to the conversation currently at hand. She put the tips of her fingers together in an excited little gesture before speaking.

"Of course! And I definitely was. I was very excited to see 'ow would would fair in a duel when you were so resilient in the tournament. Stephen is a very good flyer, 'e's on the racing team at Ilvermorny, and you 'eld your own well against 'im, without armor no less. I was rather worried about the pain when 'e got you in the middle so many times, but you at least seemed alright, if rightly disappointed when it was over." She said, feeling like she was blabbing a little again, but letting herself continue one more sentence. "You were very resilient in our duel as well, being the last one standing. It really is very admirable."

Speaking of dueling, maybe Raizel would practice with her. Her whole purpose in coming here had been to become a little more resilient like Raizel herself was, so maybe the girl could give her some pointers or at least be willing to throw some spells at her so that she could work on dodging, counter-spells, or just simply being able to take a hit better.

Truth be told, Raizel had forgotten about that jousting tournament. As much as she didn’t want it to affect her, it did, especially with how she missed each strike. For a girl who is always striving to be better only for her efforts to be in vain can be disheartening. EmmaLee was right, she was disappointed by the results but it was probably nice to hear someone at least telling her that she still did well. In a way, it was comforting for the Gryffindor as this is one of those rare times that someone acknowledges her efforts.

EmmaLee sure is something though, happiness was radiating from her, gone was the shyness that she had shown before, perhaps finding it quite comfortable to talk to her now. While Raizel would usually feel drained with people with so much energy, especially now since she always finds herself in low spirits. She feels rather calm. “I don’t remember the jousting tournament being that painful though.” she admitted, wondering if it’s just because, after all the unofficial duels she had made, and challenging older duellists, her pain tolerance had increased. That’s a good thing at least and in her official duel, she’s sure it helped her a lot to stay on her feet, to keep fighting till their opponents knocked her out.

“I guess, back in our duel, just can’t stand there and do nothing. Might as well keep on fighting, right?” In a 3v1 situation, one would think that she should’ve saved herself from the pain and give up but no, that’s not how Raizel Voltrouz does things. She’s not a quitter even though she knows how hopeless a situation is. She needs to try until the bitter end. Who knows when a miracle happens even though it’s not something that happens usually.“Are you here to practice?”The Gryffindor asked, looking at the training dummy that she’s been hitting with countless spells earlier. EmmaLee is a duellist and there is only one reason why she would be here and that’s to practice.

EmmaLee nodded happily as Raizel commented that Stephen's blows weren't very painful after all. As much as Raizel's general pain tolerance seemed high, it was nice to know that she wasn't hurt in that fun ball exchange.

"Ah, good." EmmaLee said with a relieved smile. "That's good to 'ear. At least it wasn't painful enough to be memorable." The paler girl said with a chuckle. She liked Raizel. Once past the pleasantries so to speak, she was easy to talk to and get along with. "I think it is much more admirable to try and remain in the fight as long as possible and do what you can to aid your team. Even if that means keeping the enemy's focus on you so that the others can get a few hits in." She said and chuckled once more. When Raizel asked about practice, she nodded and put her hands together in a soft clap.

"Yes, I am. I was 'oping to try and gain a little bit more resilience myself. I find it incredibly embarrassing that I was almost knocked out within the second round." She said, her pale hands going to her cheeks and rubbing them a little bit. "If Alyssea 'adn't 'elped me out, maybe your team would 'ave won. Any chance you would like to 'elp me out? It might be easier to practice lasting longer in a duel if I 'ave an actual person casting at me?" She offered with a pale eyebrow raised. A practice duel or two with another skilled duelist would be great, considering she hadn't really known how she was going to practice without one. Hopefully Raizel could teach her something about staying standing in a fight.

“Yeah, not that memorable.” She chuckled. Not like there was anything good to remember about the jousting tournament, well, maybe except Stephen’s name. She would like to forget her failure during the tourney. If there was anything memorable though, it’ll probably be the fact that the plants they nurtured had somehow turned against them, almost trapping her within the maze’s hedges and almost getting caught up with the fire she made in an attempt to escape. The whole maze was burning due to numerous people probably trying to fight them off as well, basing it from how it looked at the end. For her very first Hogwarts Ball, she wasn't expecting such an experience.

“You think that was admirable?” Raizel asked. This is the first time she's heard someone say that having enough tenacity to take hits and keep on getting up. It rarely gets called ‘admirable’ and more ‘annoying’, especially coming from a Gryffindor which somehow gets into the nerves of other people. “If you do put it that way, guess it can be.” Well, back in her duel, she wasn't getting their opponents' attention considering she was the last one standing but to compensate for what her team was lacking, which was actions because of the freeze up, she did try her best to dish out some damage to try and win a losing battle.

A losing battle… perhaps what she showed was ‘Stupidity’ instead of tenacity because she didn't give up when it was clear they weren't winning, holding onto a miniscule amount of hope that was already faltering. Well, what is done is done. Not like she cares that much what other people think. “Anyway, we can practice although… I don't know how I can help in making you more resilient aside from trading spells.”

Would've won? no, there was no winning for them in that duel, not with the lack of actions that is. The result was already obvious. Despite those thoughts in her mind though, how disappointing it is for the Gryffindor, her smile never faltered. There is one thing that she tries so hard to hide, and that is her disappointment and upset. “Now then, I might not be the best person to practice with, but I'll do what I can to help out. Would you like a practice duel? Or just cast spells at each other? Sparring.” She asked, running her mind through the list of spells she knows instead of her past failures.

EmmaLee chuckled a little at Raizel's comment that the only way to help would be to trade spells. As EmmaLee, herself, had thought before, there didn't seem to be any other ways that she saw for her to learn to take a hit except by quite literally taking one and getting back up again to take another one. She had been so disappointed in how quickly she was almost taken out in her first match and was determined to last at least a little longer in her next one. She didn't need to last the whole match if they won, just a little longer than two rounds.

"I agree. I can't see any other way to become more resilient than by learning to take a hit and stay standing. No pain, no gain, so to speak. Although it does seem a little odd to come 'ere looking to be 'it now that I'm thinking about it." She said with another chuckle.

She thought for a moment between sparring and dueling. For their purposes, sparring might be a better option. It was less rigorous and they could agree on their own rules without trying to find another person to moderate. She nodded to herself as she finished her thought process and looked back to Raizel with a raised, challenging eyebrow.

"I think a simple spar would be best. For fun, we could say first to 3 'its wins?" She suggested before reaching down and taking her long, white wand out of the holster on her thigh.
Both parties have agreed to a sparring match where each spell's hit or miss are chosen randomly by Discord before each "round's" post and then roleplayed. A miss will be rolled as a spell fail or a miss.
First duelist to get three hits on the other will "win".
No abilities will be used.

“Right, no pain, no gain.” That she agrees on. If one wants for their pain tolerance and resilience to increase, it’s to withstand the pain that’s coming for them. That method can be terrifying for others though. Who would want to get hurt after all. As duellists though, getting hurt is just part of the routine, especially when you’re fighting against each other on that piste, for honor, fame and perhaps glory for your house. Raizel doesn’t exactly care about those though. Only reason why she’s in duelling is to improve her fighting skills but as what she could see from the previous duels she had, there weren't any visible improvements. Only failures.

It’s not working out and Raizel knew that she would need to move on and find other ways to reach her goals aside from duelling and she’s just being a burden to her team at this point due to her lack of skills. One thing that she saw as an improvement though was the less number of spells backfiring at her so at least she has a bit of confidence when it comes to spellcasting but even that won’t be enough to be of use to her team. She needs to get better and stronger.

“Ready?” She asked as she pointed her wand at EmmaLee, the soft look in her eyes slowly changing into that filled with focus and seriousness, something that she only showed when it was time for a fight and cast a spell. With a quick gesture and then the incantation, the Gryffindor fired a Flipendo towards EmmaLee, its force hitting its target right on the chest. It’s not only her spell that hit though cause whatever EmmaLee shot towards her found its mark as well. Raizel, as always, stood her ground. “That’s a good start.”
