And with the sound of the start signal, off the racers went and Raizel isn’t one to let herself get left behind. Her eyes darted from her allies and then their opponents, hand itching to shoot spells at them as she held onto her broom and wand tight. She wants to be a menace, to slow them down. But despite that urge, she stopped herself and instead, aimed at Martyr. She wasn’t starting a fight with her teammates, she had better ideas. “Marty, heads up! Alarte Ascendare!” While afraid that the spell might fail her, especially when there were a lot of things going on with their opponents casting their own spells, she didn’t let that stop her from casting. Surprise surprise, it worked, making her yell ‘Yes!’ in her own mind.

She, of course, prepared for the worst, catching the glimpse of Dealla Prince’s wand aimed at not only her, but also towards Marty. The nerves that she felt made her grin, recalling the spells that she took from the said Ravenclaw, how powerful and painful they were. Lucky for the first year, she was already out of reach of the spell and lucky for her, the spell seemed to have failed. Was luck finally giving her its blessing? This was Dee they were talking about. Not once did she ever see her fail her spells, at least, in any of their meetings. She took that opportunity to keep going then. Might as well, right?

While being behind completely annoyed her, she was doing great so far but she shouldn’t speak too soon. The race is still starting and one of the lions is already broomless. “Oi Captain, hope that fall won’t keep you down for too long!”

Della knew that the eagles would come out of the starting line swinging. But she was ready for them. She saw one of their eldest players take aim at her broom, hoping to pull from her, so she quickly whispered "Finite Incantatem," pointing her wand at herself. A bit anti-climatically, the sixth-year's spell failed to propagate. Oh well, so sad, Della thought.

And if only she had skipped the snarky thought and paid closer attention to where she was going—before she knew it, her broom was yanked out from under her. Not by an opposing player, but by an angry waterfall. Soaked, red in the face, and flustered, Della began to rethink her life choices the captain refocused her attention on getting back in the race.

A bright light that he was expected to get through pierced his vision, and while he did not sustain any injury, he winced as he passed the light. ABILITIES:
Perfectionist - reduced critical failure chance range by 1. In addition, can counter up to 1 point of additional critical failure chances caused by abilities or spells.

Charmer - -1 accuracy to all of your opponents (as defined at the start of the instance regardless of later betrayal). This ability does not stack.

Unfettered Flight - This would allow a player to avoid the debuffs of moving at a faster speed than their broom is actually going when taking extra actions. To explain -- when a racer is taking another action while flying, their move speed is reduced by 50% rounded down; however, they still suffer all of the side effects of moving at the faster speed. This ability makes it so the racer is only suffering the debuffs of the halved speed. So if a user is casting a spell and flying speed 6, they will only suffer the debuffs of speed 3 since that is their actual speed that round.

Spell Spread- You can elect to reduce the accuracy of your spell by -2, increase the DC by 2 and the critical failure range by +1 to target a second user with your spell. If you roll a critical failure, the attack still goes off but the spell backfires on you, causing you to take the full brunt of the attack (you cannot avoid this) and the attack would automatically miss your intended targets.

Despite their incredibly embarrassing start to the race, in which both Peri and Dee had failed to cast spells - the one thing they should honestly be better at than everyone else on this racing track - neither of them was easily flustered, and when they noticed that Piérre had pulled ahead of the Ravenclaw racers, their next move was clear: Team up on the lone Gryffindor racer and make sure their own team mates ended up in the lead. And what better way to do this than to drag him back towards herself?

"Depulso," she muttered against the wind, and this time, her spell went off... if barely. She shook her head at herself even as Piérre was yanked backwards, and additionally, off his broom, courtesy of Peri. "Nice," she commented appreciatively, and also gave an encouraging thumbs up in Ari's direction.

But whatever had been going on with her and Peri's casting earlier seemed to have transferred to the Gryffindor team. No less than three Gryffindor wands were out and casting - but none of the spells even made it out of the wand tip. Mildly surprised, Dee watched as one of the Gryffindors - their captain, she thought - disarmed herself, while one shrimp of a first year set himself on fire. Raizel's spell, however, simply fizzled out, which was lucky for Dee, because the young lioness' wand had been pointed straight at her. As it was, she apparently needn't have worried, so she just beamed a cheeky grin at Rai and tipped an imaginary hat before speeding up again, slowly pulling ahead of the entire Gryffindor team. This was more like it.

Gryffindor looked like they were having quite the party way down below. Piérre was grounded. Della was still dismounted too, but she was trying her damnedest to keep herself useful while being temporarily out of commission. Oh- was that her wand flying across the track? ...Well, at least it was a good effort on her end. If there was one thing Gryffindor was good at, it was persistence. But "House of the Persistent" didn't have the same ring as "House of the Brave" did.

Martyr grimaced a little as she watched the onslaught beneath her, chugging on her merry way with little trouble. It was a darn shame she wasn't down there to revel in the carnage with her housemates. Cruising through the race track without even the slightest scrape felt like a crime. Where was the blood? The glory?! Not this high in the atmosphere, that's for sure. The dhampir cracked her knuckles and wiped the condensation from her goggles with messily lacquered fingers. A little ways behind her, her peripheral caught a burst of something bright and sudden. She wasn't quite sure what happened, but it looked like the new recruit... spontaneously combusted? Totally fucking radical!! Now that's what racing is about!
