Winning all the time was getting a little dull. Where was the thrill? The challenge? the drama? If her opponents were going to keep flapping their way through the air, they might as well just hand her team the trophy.

This would be the last race of the year, supposedly a big deal, being the deciding factor in whether her team got picked to face off against other international schools. Or maybe not. She hadn't really bothered to fact check it. Too much effort.

Today's race was against Gryffindor. She had a lot of matches against the lion den, but something felt different. Maybe it was because her beloved pookie, Nicholas, wasn't flying today. The memories. No more being distracted by his luscious locks, mainly because he wasn't here and also becausee he's bald now.

But no matter, she shook the thought off, swung a leg over her broom. It was time to win another race.

Thank you for the banner, Dee!

It was a big question how Zach could stand there with Silver Arrow in his hands. He, himself, also didn't know the answer. It happened so fast. He just blinked and suddenly he became one of the racers, not the one who anxiously saw his team flying on the tracks. He would still be anxious, but also on the track. "Should I go back?" He looked behind. There were some people on the spectator stage. "Uh... No..." He grimaced.

In front of him, there were already deadly things that could kill him. Walking back was not a wise move since his team could fall into a disadvantage from having fewer members. He wanted to throw up. His stomach started acting strangely.

All started to get black until he took a deep breath.

He had control of his body now. The boy took some steps forward and was ready to fly. It was the next minutes' problem if he couldn't do anything on the air. At least, he tried to help the team. He just hopes nothing will go wrong with his team, especially for himself.

ABILITIES:
Perfectionist - reduced critical failure chance range by 1. In addition, can counter up to 1 point of additional critical failure chances caused by abilities or spells.

Charmer - -1 accuracy to all of your opponents (as defined at the start of the instance regardless of later betrayal). This ability does not stack.

Unfettered Flight - This would allow a player to avoid the debuffs of moving at a faster speed than their broom is actually going when taking extra actions. To explain -- when a racer is taking another action while flying, their move speed is reduced by 50% rounded down; however, they still suffer all of the side effects of moving at the faster speed. This ability makes it so the racer is only suffering the debuffs of the halved speed. So if a user is casting a spell and flying speed 6, they will only suffer the debuffs of speed 3 since that is their actual speed that round.

Spell Spread- You can elect to reduce the accuracy of your spell by -2, increase the DC by 2 and the critical failure range by +1 to target a second user with your spell. If you roll a critical failure, the attack still goes off but the spell backfires on you, causing you to take the full brunt of the attack (you cannot avoid this) and the attack would automatically miss your intended targets.

In terms of everyone setting themselves up for success, it was pretty eventful. Alyssea watched as Martyr shot right up above the track, away from the chaos that was happening nearer to the ground. Alyssea raised an eyebrow. "And there goes Gryffindor's youngest racer!"

In terms of everyone trying to grab at each other's necks? Nothing happened. This had to be the most boring opening Alyssea ever witnessed, which was not something she ever expected to happen in this sport. Maybe rain was on the way and ruining everyone's vibe.

She gave the audience a surprised look. "Not off to a great start for Ravenclaw, are we? It's still early, so they've got time to catch up — that is, if the waterfall doesn't catch them first." Which it shouldn't.

As expected, the waterfall took out nobody, save for Della (surprisingly). "Woah! We've lost Barfield! Hope the water isn't too cold!" Alyssea said.

Alyssea had come by before the races started to check the water temperature, which had been only slightly chilly at best. The flow shouldn't have been enough to knock anyone off, only give them a quick shower, but maybe the little guys hanging around the rocks were also a distraction point.

With the majority of Gryffindor slowing down, it was now Piérre versus the rest of Ravenclaw.

It wasn't that Aurora wanted to be blasted with spells or smacked in the face or get blatched off of her broom. But still, the lack of attention was kind of rude. Not one person even tried to take her out as soon as the match begun. Honestly, insulting. Was she not intimidating anymore? Had she lost her edge? She was considered a senior, a seasoned broom racing, and was a captain ages ago.

Then...
"WHOA!"

A flash of light seared across her vision. She wobbled mid air for a little bit. Where had it come from? One thing she knew for certain, it was not Nicholas' solar powered bald head gleaming. He wasn't even there.

Eyes still watering, she refocused. The race was on, but she was a tad annoyed, which was exactly the king of dangerous energy she needed.

xxxℬrookline was all ready when she heard @Dealla Prince’s voice. “Well, that won't do. You'll end up getting caught in the trees with that bird's nest. Hold still.” The Welsh girl looked alarmed as Dee started to redo her monstrous French braid into a much more nicer, simple braid.

When Dealla finished, she gave Brookline a little pat on her shoulder and a wink. “Oh. Thanks! And, yeah, we’ll show them that the Eagles will always be faster than them!” She gave Dee a little smile, her eyes sparkling with admiration for the older girl.

Then the race started, Brookline was scared. Would the Eagles win like they did the last race against Hufflepuff or lose sadly like they did in the race against the snakes? She hoped it was the first option, because, oh Merlin, wouldn’t it be like she was on the top of the world if the Ravenclaws won the Cup in her second year? Brookline could see it though. Her teammates was amazing, and deserved to win it.

Thoughts swirled in her head as she kept going, and -“Oh! OW!”- a super bright light burned her retinas. Hands would try cover her blue eyes without falling off her broom. Shit. That hurt bad. Couldn’t we go blind because of this? Damn, I hope not.

Before the racers launched, Pericles peered at their opponents in subtle appraisal. They all looked to be younger years, aside from one fellow sixth year, whose presence Pericles pointedly glossed over. His attention was eventually snagged by Ravenclaw's own underclassman, @Brookline Quinn. The dark circles around her eyes betrayed the poor quality of her sleep, but he mistakenly blamed it on nerves instead of nightmares. Meeting her stare, he sported a bolstering smile as Dee began braiding her hair. "Nervous...?" Pear's usual mellow lilt was louder than usual, just enough to carry to the next team over. "Don't be. Even Dee and I lost our share of duels, but we all start somewhere. Think of it less as a win-or-lose game than an opportunity to learn what you're capable of, a chance to test and grow your skills." He tacked on an encouraging wink before mounting his broom and bracing for kickoff.

The open sky was more his natural habitat these days. Pericles was built for the air, attuned to its currents and flow, with or without his wings on display. He savored the rush of wind whipping around them before locking in and aiming his wand. The time for niceties was past. "Relashio." A spark formed and nothing more. Pear drew back the aspen piece for inspection as if anticipating damage, but found none. A look shot over at @Dealla Prince to see she'd suffered the same non-result, and if he caught her eye, he'd frown and shrug, mystified that they of all people would misfire. The eagle wouldn't allow this to throw him off or diminish his hope. At least their opponents were struggling too, with some still at the starting line and one already on the ground. No wonder Gryffindor looked so glum at the start.

Unexpected though the bright light may have been, Pericles clamped his left eye shut just in the nick of time, quickly covering it with his hand. His prosthetic remained open, darting about in constant vigilance and evidently unaffected by the glaring flash.

"Love the spirit," Dee encouraged, giving Brooke an approving thumbsup before mounting her own broom and rolling her eyes at Peri. "Many more victories than losses, though," she pointed out. Most of the time, at least. Her duelling career had admittedly started off a bit rocky, but they'd gotten over the bumps quickly and sailed into a smooth winning streak for the years after. "Don't listen to Peri, of course we're going to win this. Learning and testing and growing is for training." She should really be a motivational speaker, she'd be great at it.

Kicking off, Dee raised her wand, aiming to repeat their stunt from their previous race - leaving most of their opponents on the ground while the Ravenclaw racers flew off into the sunset. Sadly, it seemed that her magic didn't want to cooperate today... which was odd enough, even without Peri apparently suffering the same fate. They shared a confused look, Dee's mixed with some frustration - she couldn't remember the last time she'd actually failed to cast a spell she had supposedly mastered, and this was an incredibly inopportune time to start doing so again - but the minute analysis of what exactly had gone wrong would need to wait for after the race.

In the moment, she leaned forward, urging her broom to speed up - with their strategy not going according to plan, they couldn't let Gryffindor gain too much of a headstart. The sun glared down on them with aggressive power, and she squinted against the light, struggling to make out what was ahead. Perhaps she should invest in a pair of racing sunglasses for the future.

"Don't choke on it." Her grin was toothy as Harlan took the seemingly humble offering. Too toothy. Peaceful as the gesture was, her words were anything but. "Who said I was worryin'?" The gum crackled again as she forced a small bubble against the back of her smile. "I'm just layin' out the facts so you know what to expect. Ya know, you bein' a rookie and all." Whether her chatter was meant to be teasing or provoking, was for Harlan to decide. She was probing for a reaction either way.

The older boy's question of the young dhampir's badassery earned him a throaty huff from the so-called "kid". "You've got doubts?" Martyr scoffed, crossing her arms over her chest. Never one to step away from a challenge (or anything that remotely sounded like one), she nodded. "Alright, alright, I'll show you what I've got." At that, she swung her legs over her broom and dug her heels into the soft ground, assuming a ready position.

Cap'n Della had the cub's full attention as she gave her obligatory start-of-race speech. Martyr's eyes went alight with excitement, dipping into the steady confidence the older girl exuded- faux or not. "Is that what they're trying to do? They prolly shouldn't quit their day job then." Martyr drawled, tugging a few baby hairs out from under her goggles. She slid the lenses over her eyes before kicking her boots into the soil once more, better grounding herself for a steady takeoff.

And takeoff she did.

No more than a second after the announcer signaled the start of the race, Martyr was rocketed into the air with some quick spellwork from Raizel. It sent her chewing gum bulleting toward the back of her throat- nearly causing her to choke- but the sensation of being so high above the track was well worth the temporary discomfort. "WAHOOOOOO!!!" Pure energy expelled from her lungs, her legs swinging joyfully in the air. "Ya'll look like ants from up here!" She shouted, peering down at ally and opponent alike. She closed one eye and focused on the dispersed teams with the other, pretending to squash them all with the toe of her boot. By pure chance she'd catch the sight of Della toppling from her broom while she played pretend, making her quickly snap back to the task at hand. This was not the time for monkeying around.

Thank you for the banner, Dee!

Did anyone cast a spell at him? Zach questioned if it was true. What he felt was just a shiver through his bones. He just moved forward with his broom. And it was very expected for him to mess up his flying. He zoomed with a high speed without knowing how to control the broom properly. It was very fast. He almost cried.

The first thing he must pass was a small waterfall. The boy just closed his eyes while his hands held the broom tightly. He miraculously passed the obstacle. The next thing was a bright light. It was so strong that it's almost blinding. "AAAAAAH! MY EYES!!" he screamed dramatically. However, it had no effect on Zach. Again, a miracle happened to the boy. How could this happen? It was mystery.

Would this miracle could still happen to him? Would this make him staying in the team as a racer?

	Before the racers launched, Pericles peered at their opponents in subtle appraisal. They all looked to be younger years, aside from one fellow sixth year, whose presence Pericles pointedly glossed over. His attention was eventually snagged by Ravenclaw's own underclassman, @Brookline Quinn. The dark circles around her eyes betrayed the poor quality of her sleep, but he mistakenly blamed it on nerves instead of nightmares. Meeting her stare, he sported a bolstering smile as Dee began braiding her hair. "Nervous...?" Pear's usual mellow lilt was louder than usual, just enough to carry to the next team over. "Don't be. Even Dee and I lost our share of duels, but we all start somewhere. Think of it less as a win-or-lose game than an opportunity to learn what you're capable of, a chance to test and grow your skills." He tacked on an encouraging wink before mounting his broom and bracing for kickoff. The open sky was more his natural habitat these days. Pericles was built for the air, attuned to its currents and flow, with or without his wings on display. He savored the rush of wind whipping around them before locking in and aiming his wand. The time for niceties was past. "Relashio." A spark formed and nothing more. Pear drew back the aspen piece for inspection as if anticipating damage, but found none. A look shot over at @Dealla Prince to see she'd suffered the same non-result, and if he caught her eye, he'd frown and shrug, mystified that they of all people would misfire. The eagle wouldn't allow this to throw him off or diminish his hope. At least their opponents were struggling too, with some still at the starting line and one already on the ground. No wonder Gryffindor looked so glum at the start. Unexpected though the bright light may have been, Pericles clamped his left eye shut just in the nick of time, quickly covering it with his hand. His prosthetic remained open, darting about in constant vigilance and evidently unaffected by the glaring flash.
