Although she struggled with the easy trees, something that definitely brought down her ego, she needed to step up her game. Her team had to win, they just did.

22 January 2025 - Hufflepuff vs. Ravenclaw

Her mind told her this was the smartest move they could pull off in the moment, but her heart did not beat to that same drummer. Simon was a brilliant flyer and a brilliant teammate. He would never voice it out loud, well maybe not to anyone but her... and then only in private... but she knew it was eating at him to be at the back of the pack for the second race in a row. Her boy was not in this for the attention or the glory, but for the thrill of racing along the track. Yes, he was always racing against their competition, but he was also racing against himself... trying to hone his skills in the heat of battle and improve his maneuvers. Yet it seemed most recently he had been relegated to the team's strong man and was doing little else but ooping various team members, herself included, farther along the track than he himself would likely reach.

He was not an egotistical person by any means, but everyone liked to feel they had a chance at being the one to cross over that FINISH line. As it stood this race, chances were better than good that person would be an eagle and not even another badger, and that probably only made him feel worse.

All of this AngelFyre was dreadfully aware of, so she took a great deal of pride in her fellow as he bucked up and smiled his game face smile, which was still bursting with Simon-like warmth, as they got into position to have him hurl her down the track. And hurl her he did.

It came at a cost to him as he was still in Unit 0, so AngelFyre needed to make this count and make his sacrifice worth it. She flew fairly cleanly. A few scrapes here and there in the passageway, but nothing that would get her attention until the race was over. What she mainly wanted to do was to avoid the pigeons and that she thankfully did.

When all was said and done, she contacted him via their binding mark. "You are a marvel and I tell you that as I am now flying through Unit 7 and can see eagles before me. You made that happen, Simon. You are not just a Samson with great hair... though God knows you do have magnificent hair. And I am no Delilah. You know I will do anything I can to honor you and not squander this opportunity. I am proud of you. You be proud of you, too, even if it is not your usual go to position. I will wait for you on the other side of that FINISH line, Mav, and win or lose, you will always be my hero."

Said trees didn't end up being much of an obstacle. Dee slowed down slightly from her insane pace, noted Aurora doing the same. She caught Peri's eyes and gave him a small grin, before holding out her hand once again - an offer. They'd noticed during practice that the boost from alley-ooping - as insane as it sounded - left their brooms with better maneuverability than just pushing them to the limits of their speed. So she hurled her friend forward once more, then caught up quickly, weaving in between the trees of the increasingly dense forest easily, and clearing it without a scratch. She squinted at the dense patch of falling snow ahead, but thought she could already make out the Whomping Willow behind it. They were almost to the finish line.
