As practiced, Piérre grabbed Della's broom and sent her flying. She heard him cast a spell at someone—but she was long gone before she could catch the result. Controlling her broom through the narrow passages was awkward—a lot of new bruises were forming—but she was able to cleanly avoid the pack of feral pigeons. She was now toward the front of the pack, and she would have to keep an eye behind. Too bad her team wore red; it probably made the targeting a bit easier.

Martyr positively cawed with laughter, a sharp hyena's grin peeling across her pallid face. She looked to Della, flashing her pearlies at the older girl as she cranked her arm back farther. "Thanks cap'n!" The encouragement was all that was needed to send the dhampir's little ball of ice flying through the air, and towards the Slytherin captain. Disappointingly, it would miss the girl by a couple of inches, spattering on the ground next to the snake in a mess of harmless shrapnel. "Damn!" Martyr spat, as she wiped her hands across her torso, brushing off any snow remnants clinging to her gloves. "I coulda slugged her real good!" She grumbled, stooping to collect her broom from the ground. "That's fine, I'll get her on the track for ya, caps." That was, if someone- or something else- didn't clock June's lights out first.

Things were smooth for Gryffindor on liftoff. Smooth enough, anyway. The ginger girl who had been talking to Raizel and Piérre tried to snatch the latter's wand right from his hand, but had thankfully missed. Having one man down right off the bat would have sucked. If Gryffindor could continue to keep this kind of momentum going, then the rest of the race was going to be a breeze!

Positivity was what she needed and surprisingly enough, it wasn't something that she was expecting to be given to her by a first year in their team. While she did not do anything special to cheer her up, the short interaction with Marty and her enthusiasm to go against the other team was enough to at least rub some of that on her. It's a good thing. She was getting too caught up with what happened in the past, a thought that she knew would mess her up if she continued worrying about it. They lost, that took a toll on her when she hadn't won a single official sport so it had affected her of course but it was time to snap out of it and set it aside. She’ll still do better of course, better than her performance but it was time to loosen up a bit on the pressure she's putting on herself. Maybe that’ll be the key to victory.

“Yeah, let's do some squashing.” Yes, it was time to show those snakes that they aren't a team to mess with. “I’m sure you’ll hit them just fine.” She told her, something that she seems to agree on with their Captain, Della. Just a few minutes in the starting line and they were off, the race officially beginning.

Steady, focus, loosen up, have a bit of… fun.

Raizel had never tried blatching for as far as she remembers and she thought this was a good opportunity to try it out right. Her target, someone that's not a complete stranger, someone that she finds cool and had raced with before. Colin. They were still picking up speed but that'll be enough to give her enough time to reach him before he could zoom away. “Hey Colin!” She shouted just before the impact. Seeing him fall off his broom just made her grin. “I’ll see you later.” Okay, that was kind of fun, she will admit. The rush of adrenaline, the thrill of racing. It made her feel alive again. While she didn't get that lucky trying to pass through that passageway, she didn't make a fuss about it. Unlucky, she was caught off guard when it got narrower in the end but that is just a scratch. “Hello, Astra.” Raizel decided to give her cousin a short greeting as she found herself flying alongside her. “We meet again.” She said with a playful tone this time.

Around her, she could hear the shouted banter between snakes and lions, but her focus remained on the race. They took off, shooting across the course as fast as each broom allowed. The course was a flurry of activity and spells, but she kept her focus ahead.

She felt her features shift quickly, taking on the appearance of her older teammate, Wyatt. She knew him well enough to impersonate him enough, she just hoped everyone else wouldn’t be able to tell them apart.

She soared across, taking a few hits as she went but nonetheless keeping up. Her practice had come in handy, both for racing and with her metamorphmagus skills.

It was a good day for a race.

Welp. This was only slightly embarrassing! Colin hadn't even managed to make it to the starting line before getting knocked off his broom! He gazed down along the track. He smirked. He could see Pi was off his broom and some other Gryffindorque was in the same straits a little further along.

He mounted his broom. Again.

He noticed there was one young lion just kind of standing around looking like she had no idea what to do next. Colin really felt bad for her. He looked up into the stands. At least Emily and Fyre and the rest didn't seem to mind that he'd been knocked off his broom so quickly! He gave them a wave before sidling over next to the bright red haired danger noodle.

Colin nudged Accalia gently. "Come on lassie! Up in the air! Let's make this a race to remember!" he said encouragingly.
