He drug himself completely upright again at Rai's words of determined encouragement, and then glanced skywards as Colin screamed his name. What would have usually evoked a smile from Piérre instead was met with a hollow pair of green eyes watching the blonde menace continue onward down the track as Piérre himself was left in the cold. He was starting to shiver, the lack of movement and indeed the stagnating of his movement chilling him to the bone in a similar way to the way that his chest was tightening to the point of stomach-churning nausea.

He sighed. At least some people were having fun. That was surely what counted most, right? The fun? The competition was just a thing on the side? Even in the midst of his rather embarrassing performances in academics, in the potions competition, in the fall race, and now currently? There was surely a way he could turn his bad luck around, right? A way in which he could turn his own smile upside down like he had once managed to be able to do in his youth at the price of his own cheer?

But what would that require, exactly? Taking the smiles and the laugher from others to satiate his own greedy thirst for mirth? Well... it wouldn't be something new by this point. How many had he made miserable simply by nature of his presence being felt in the vicinity? Surely it was a low corruption process, but it seemed to have a totally efficient rate of detonation when the time came. And then there was the fact there was no running away from the thoughts that came through his own head, no matter how much he didn't want to think about them or share them.

Contain the worst, but it of course couldn't ever be properly filtered and hidden from himself.

So that was the heavy and taxing weight he carried on him as he recovered Orabella. "So much for being meant for the best sort of racers." He whispered to her. "Noé would have been better off giving you to my brother as well. You'd like him. Most people do. And I'm pretty awful at what I do. And you know it, or you probably wouldn't have turned on me like that even with the jinx in mind. Jinx, who's the jinx here, exactly?" He mused.

Surely they had to be having better chances up front. Surely he wasn't the only one who was getting his face ground into the dirt by the whims of fancy for what was the sixth time in a row at a sporting event. Surely something was different this time. Something was happening that was going to change everything. It wasn't just insanity. It couldn't simply just be insanity.

But he was still here... so perhaps it simply still all was.

Description: Marvelous Spatuletails are medium sized hummingbirds, averaging between the lengths of 10-15 cm (if including the male's spatules) and weighing 5 grams (because even for hummingbirds that 'bulk up' for the purpose of migration no hummingbird exceeds 30 grams due to their necessity to be lightweight for flight and high metabolism). Its body is described as being 'about the size of a fluffy ping-pong ball'. Its plumage is usually white and green on its underbelly, and bronzy on top. Males possess blue crest feathers, a turquoise throat patch, and a black line cutting down a white chest and abdomen, whose side feathers are green. Its call is of a high melodic frequency described as "a repeated high-pitched buzzy metallic note...'tzzz...tzzz...' during its aerial display". Its calls include "an upslurred high-pitched sweet note 'tswee'" and "a more strident 'tsik'".

The most distinguishing feature of the male marvellous spatuletails are of course his spatules; two outermost tail feathers which are long, raquet-shaped, and possess indigo or violet-blue discs (spatules) capable of being flicked about independently. These feathers are not fully developed in juveniles, but they can grow up to three or four times the length of the bird's own body.

In this currently aged Animagus form (16 years old as of 2024), Piérre would be a petite 5 cm long (not including his juvenile tail feathers--as he is a male--which adds only an additional 9 cm), and a near weightless 4g.

Distinctive Markings:

Unlike the typical blue crest and violet spatules of a mundane Marvellous Spatuletail, the spatules and crest color of Mr. Marchonné's animagus form instead carry a structural coloration that varies all over the spectrum; resulting in his color being of all chromatic hues dependent on the way the light hits his feathers (in such a way that while he possesses the Marvellous Spatuletail body, he also expresses the Fiery Throated Hummingbird's various iridescent colorations).

The head crest feathers of Mr. Marchonné's animagus form are slightly longer than an average Marvellous Spatuletail's and they seem to possess a slight curl like his human hair. This results in the formation of what can only be described as an ahoge of feathers that curls forwards over its head as if aiming towards the bill.

Vale's nose pointed out, taking pride that the second time was the charm. She almost forgotten she was covered in bird goo if it were for the smell. Almost.

Vale made a crackle as she ended up winning against Della on wand keeps. Nothing like witnessing a snake's bite taking effect against its opponents!

It took a moment for discomfort to set in- the twisting of muscles and stretching of tendons, out-facing bones turning inward- as her body was altered against her will right before her very eyes. It was a horrific scene when put into perspective, but Martyr lacked the cognitive ability to describe it as anything other than weird. It felt like over-stretching a limb to her: awkward, but not anything agonizing. It was enough to distract her from the joy of being flung across the track by Raizel, though. It was a shame because she had been waiting to experience that move since she joined broom racing, and now that she was experiencing it she wasn't able to enjoy it to it's fullest. Stupid legs. Stupid knees.

Martyr yelped as she spiraled through the air, the grip on her broom desperate. It was so hard to hold onto the stupid thing with her legs all wrong, but she couldn't afford to fall off now. The only thing she could risk losing was her lunch as she whirled into trees (miraculously, she'd manage to keep it down). When did she make it into the forest? She didn't know. In fact, she wasn't all too sure where she was at this point in the race, but she could have sworn she saw Della nearby. That was a good thing, right?

Astra's goggles were awful. All sorts of messed up. She'd probably have to burn them post race, honestly. Must've been why she didn't see the thorns as they ripped into her racing suit once again, only feeling the sharp barbs dig into her skin as she flew past. And I just got this fixed from last race! Astra definitely wasn't as far ahead as she had been last race, which didn't bother her as much as it might've under different captains and without a Starkey on the team. All she could hope for was that she wouldn't get a repeat of last place.

In one swoop, two spells came crashing toward Della: her wand was gone and so was her sight. Her eyes were previously glued to Wyatt's emerald uniform, but now all she could see was inky black. And it hurt like hell when she careened into several trees; she wasn't even sure she was facing the right way. How did Hugh do this in every race? She slowed down and a terrible cold sensation nearly froze her broom entirely. This wasn't a great year for broom racing.

And she couldn’t see a damn thing. Of all places that the pigeons could’ve pooped on, it had to be her eyes huh. The only thing protecting her from that horrible pile of goop was her goggles and she’s thankful for that. With her limited vision, she knew she couldn’t continue. She could wipe it off but she had other ideas in mind. If she had no chance of moving forward, of going further, it was best for her to assist someone who had a better chance. Someone was near her, a fellow Gryffindor. While she couldn’t see that clearly, she did manage to catch a glimpse of Martyr. She urged herself closer, willing herself to continue on trying despite how horrible the race was turning out for her. She would be a damn hypocrite if she gives up here when she just threw some encouraging words towards Piérre earlier.

“Get ready.” She said as she took hold of the other racer before mustering the strength to flung her forward. She was weak, not just in terms of magic but her physical strength as well but this was better than doing nothing. It left her exhausted. That was the first time she ever tried flinging someone. Usually, it was her that’s getting flung so she doesn’t know if she did well with that move. Well, she sure hopes she did. She did what she could as always.
