Personality: Elias is generally kind and friendly. He enjoys being around people but does value having time to himself. He isn't the brightest, but loves learning about nature, animals especially. He is a good listener (or whatever the writing equivalent is for that) and freely gives compliments. He enjoys exploring and has always been considered a soulful boy, even before he was chosen by the Thunderbird.

Elias' maternal grandmother is a squib, estranged from her pureblood family. She married a muggle with whom she had multiple children, including Elias' mother (Fidelity Parker, "Parker" Blake). Parker was raised without knowledge of her wixen heritage nor her wixen sister. Through this branch of the family, Elias has a wixen cousin, Judas Crane, of whom he is unaware. OOC: Permission was granted by Rebecca Lark.

Elias Sylvan Travers was born to Muggles Brendon and Parker Travers in a city hospital close to the coast while his parents were on their second honeymoon, on July 9th, 2011. The boy was a happy surprise for his parents, who had been told that their chances of conception were low after Parker had an unfortunate miscarriage. Elias was born deaf, never having heard a sound in his life. Brendon and Parker were saddened to find this out, but did not love their precious son any less. Brendon is an auto-mechanic and Parker works with a temp agency.

Elias spent his childhood days in the suburbs of Asheville, North Carolina. Aside from his lack of hearing, he grew and developed into a healthy child. He enjoyed learning to sign, though it frustrated him sometimes. Elias enjoyed exploring around the neighborhood, though his parents worried for him. He didn't really hang around with the other kids in his neighborhood, as most of them were older than him, but was friendly to them. Many evenings, Elias could be found signing to Cara, the girl next door, who was one of the only children who bothered to learn more than the average yes, no hello, and goodbye of ASL.

Elias attended a private elementary for the deaf for his first three years of education (ages 5-7). Unfortunately, his parents could not pay for him to go past that and so he attended a regular school. Due to his total lack of hearing, Elias was paired with an interpreter, Lane Hutchins. He and Lane became very close, Lane becoming like an uncle or older cousin figure to Eli. Brendon and Parker also liked the young man and they sort of became a surrogate family for him, as he was hundreds of miles from his own family and home.

Although Elias was a friendly and adventurous soul, he was unable to connect with many people at his school. Cara, the neighbor girl, moved away when the two were eight, leaving Elias adrift in his new world. He did not learn to speak, since he has never heard, so it was hard for the other kids to connect with him. Fortunately, his peers were not malicious, and the majority of his classmates were friendly to him. Elias never really felt lonely, either, having a deep connection with his parents and a good friend in Lane.

The only thing that plagued Elias was his inability to hear. He was haunted with silence, knowing that everyone around him heard things. He didn't know what that meant, but when he felt the vibrations of the bass from the car speakers or saw someone with their mouth open with a face of happiness, he knew he was broken. That a piece was missing.

The night before his eleventh birthday, Elias lay awake, thinking about the sun. It was so big, so bright, it must be so loud. And the moon was probably quiet, but had a beautiful sound. He wished with all his might he could hear them. In a moment, a bright ball of fire appeared above his head, circled by a bright white light. They sent out vibrations that Elias could feel. Brendon and Parker were in his room a moment later, asking Elias where the music was coming from. They stared in shock as they saw the ball of fire hovering right over Elias' face and Brendon screamed when the white light came racing over. Almost as soon as Elias' focus was broken, the two mystery lights disappeared. From the expression on his mom and dad's faces, Elias could tell that they had seen it to. So... not a hallucination? he signed.

Everyone was baffled by this. There was no logical explanation. The next day, as the bewildered family plus Lane was about to cut the cake, a knock came at the door. It was a wizard, hailing from Boston, saying that Elias was also magic, and that his little lights show was his first instance of magic. The Travers family was skeptical, as they should be, but as the wizard explained to them what was in store for the boy, Brendon and Parker were forced to accept the reality of magic as the only explanation for this event. It would be a hard journey away from his parents and everything he knew, an unbelievable one, but it was the only explanation. And Elias was ready for it. He was ready for his new adventure.

Elias was three. He was in his mother's office, playing with a set of blocks. He stacked them up and up before he sent them crashing right back down in one swoop of his pudgy hand. Almost immediately, he looked up at his mother, sensing a change in the atmosphere. She had swiveled towards him in her office chair, signing, No knocking down your toys. Go into the playroom to do that. Elias' eyes flicked over her hands as she signed slowly, taking in every movement of her fingers. He signed back Yes, Mom and picked up his blocks before toddling into the playroom.

Elias was six. He sat outside, gazing around the neighborhood playground on a white winter morning. His eyes, the only part of his face that showed, stared up at the cloudless and bright blue sky. He felt a warmth at his back and turned, signing Hello? It was Cara, his neighbor and friend, with her gloved hand outstretched as if to tap him on the shoulder.
Hi! she signed. I wanted to surprise you, but it's almost like you sensed me there! Cara's lips moved as her fingers did, sort of stiff in the gloves.
Elias smiled and shrugged. Maybe I did. Cara's mouth opened in what Elias had learned to recognize was a laugh. Would you like to build a snowman while there's good snow? Cara signed back and enthusiastic yes and the two kids began rolling up huge snowballs to make a snow friend.

Elias was nine. He walked alone in the school hallway, waving at anyone that waved to him and offering up a broad smile for all the world to see. He saw kids with their mouths moving faster than he could sign, and saw feet stomping, and a phone out with Spotify pulled up. Not for the first time in his short life, the boy wondered what it would be like to hear.
At that moment, Elias began to feel uncomfortable. He glanced over his shoulder a few times. He wondered where Lane was, the young man no where in sight. Elias decided to walk all the way to the end of the hall before doubling back to his next class, but he still felt off. Elias glanced behind him one last time to see none other than Lane Hutchins jump out from an open doorway with his hands outstretched, seemingly to grab Elias on the shoulders. Elias' eyes widened. Lane quickly straightened up with a disappointed look on his face. No fun to scare, Eli, he signed with a tiny smile, using Elias' name sign reserved for friends and family.
Elias grinned and signed back, You're just no good at scaring. Lane waved him off before leading the younger boy into his next class.

To make up for the lack of one of his most crucial senses, Elias' spacial awareness, visual perception, and multiple facets of his sense of touch seem to have developed more than the average person in order to compensate.
