An Addendum
Professors were instructed during the transition project to hold-off on grading assignments so as to prevent players from being overlooked as we added spells. They are resuming grading.
Soon, trunks as we know them will no longer be relevant but for the time-being we ask that you keep your spell list up to date and relevant. Please communicate if the Professor has given you the spell with your trunk update.
Why?
- Giving spells with completed HW is a new process, this will take some getting used to. This serves as a check & balance.
- We have some other announcements planned that make these trunk lists still relevant. Expect an announcement regarding this within the next 48 hours.

Policy Reminder: Responsible Use of AI Tools in Roleplay and Homework
As part of our continuing effort to maintain the integrity, creativity, and fairness of the Hogwarts.io community, we are reaffirming our policy:
AI-generated content is not permitted in roleplay posts or homework submissions.
Why AI-Generated Content is Prohibited:
Our community is built on personal creativity and effort. Using AI to write posts or homework:
• Undermines fair play, particularly in competitive or rewarded areas of the site.
• Erodes trust, especially when credit is taken for work that isn't fully your own.
• Damages community culture, where the heart of interaction is personal expression, not polished automation.
With the increased focus on spells and potions, where homework is rewarded with items, Ai use will not be tolerated.
Understanding Reasonable Exceptions:
We recognize that not all uses of AI are dishonest or intended to cheat. AI may be used responsibly in the following ways:
• Idea generation: Brainstorming character arcs, plot hooks, or spell/potion concepts.
• Grammar and clarity assistance: Using tools like Grammarly or AI suggestions to improve sentence structure or catch typos is acceptable — much like a spellchecker or thesaurus.
• Writing prompts: Getting unstuck creatively is valid, provided the final product is clearly your own work and voice.
These uses are tools for support, not substitutes for writing. The difference lies in whether the AI suggests ideas or writes the actual content for you.
How Can Players Stay Responsible?
Players are expected to take ownership of what they submit. Here are some ways to help ensure responsible use:
When in doubt, disclose: If you’re unsure if your use of AI is within policy, ask staff or include a quick note. Transparency goes a long way.
Use an AI Checker: We use CopyLeaks due to the high-level of accuracy. They have a free option, this is a great way to check if you ping for AI.
Ask for help the right way: Our community is full of mentors, staff, and fellow writers who are happy to help with brainstorming or editing — no AI required.
Enforcement and Consequences
AI misuse may result in progressive disciplinary action, especially when tied to:
• Homework for points or spells
• Moderated posts with mechanical outcomes
• Events, contests, or applications
Consequences may include:
• Warnings and coaching
• Removal from sport positions or event eligibility
• Deletion of posts
• Failed HW
• Temporary or permanent losses of site access, such as no longer being allowed to use our homework system
• Temporary or permanent bans for repeated or intentional dishonesty
There is something about ambition, how it not only propels you but also defines you.

Welcome Our New Ravenclaw Prefects!
Please join us in welcoming @Ophelia Northwell and @Aston Beckett as the newest Prefects for House Ravenclaw!
Ophelia brings kindness, consistency, and leadership through her roles as both a Mentor and a dedicated member of our Ravenclaw Quidditch Teams.

Updates to Prodigal Learning & Restricted Spells
The Removal of the Components Ability
We have made updates to several abilities known as the prodigal learning abilities. Essentially we have expanded the prodigal abilities to each subject, intend to use expanded design space to create some new spells and use these abilities as an alternative means of completing lessons.
Note: Prodigal Learning includes OWLS and NEWTS for the given subject.
Prodigal Charms Learner
You read ahead in your textbooks, perhaps have learned some charms at home from parents or a tutor. You find yourself already familiar with the spells being taught in class.
Prerequisites: None
Effect: Able to break anonymity with your character in homework assignments, replacing your actual homework answers with your character name and the fact that you have the prodigal ability for this subject. In addition, upon reaching your adult year, you can take up to one (1) restricted spell of this subject, this ability serving as a prerequisite.
How does this work? In this class, you simply write your name in the homework area as well as the fact that you are a Prodigal Learner for this subject (Charms) and the Professor grants you a grade of an O. This can also be used to earn OWLS and NEWTS in this same subject. Upon graduation as an adult, this ability gives you access to one Restricted Spell in this subject (Charms).
Note: This has to be done for each lesson in this subject. You will be awarded any spells you would have earned from that lesson. You only have access to your present, active year in the subject.
The Charms syllabus can be found here.Prodigal Potions Learner

For members that have this ability but no longer want to have this ability, you have until July 1 to request the removal of this ability. This means that once the ability is removed, you are free to apply for a new ability. However, from the date of this post to July 1, members requesting a removal of this ability cannot use this ability to complete classes. Essentially, if you use this new ability, you have locked into this ability.
______________________________________
We have made changes to the restricted spells, as they will no longer require roleplay but they will require a minor purchase. We have also removed the limitation from these spells. If you are a prodigal charms learner for example, you can learn all of the prodigal charm spells.
We are also expanding this to every subject. At this time there are no spells for several of the listed subjects, this serves as future design space. We plan to add new spells to these classes.

We are removing the ability Components. This means that this ability is automatically no longer considered to be a part of anyone's trunk. Members are allowed to apply for another ability at their earliest convenience.
This does not have a deadline because there is no way we can assume a user will 'keep' this ability.

iNPC School Roster Clearing & Missing Spells/Potions
The iNPC School Rosters have been updated and cleared. Members who deactivated their main account and did not declare their intention of keeping their iNPC or those who were recently removed from index due to inactivity of 6 months or more have been removed from the school rosters.
As a reminder, to have an iNPC character you must:
1) have maintained your present main account for 6 months AND
2) be registered on the Official Index
If you have been registered with Index before, but were removed for inactivity, please re-apply to index here. Once you have been re-added to the Official Index, you can then re-apply in the appropriate school thread to re-activate your iNPC character.
Note: If you have been removed from Index for inactivity, please be aware that you may be owed spells/potions earned from previous year's graduations and will need to post in Encyclopedia Update Form to collect. In addition to those that are missing spells/potions during this transition period, please follow the same process by filling out the form to notify the team of what items you're missing.
Spells/Potions in your current year can only be earned via purchase or HW completion.
I always knew the wind would blow you back to me one day.

iNPC Changes
iNPCs are undergoing a massive overhaul.1. iNPCs will have their own account, acting like a sub account.
2. iNPCs will no longer share a wand or a spell list with the main account, they will have access to their own spells and abilities.
3. iNPCs will have access to the same skills and abilities as PCs.
Why?
• This is to give iNPCs equitable opportunities in terms of abilities.
• iNPCs serve as an opportunity for players to get a taste of something different when they write on this site. This gives these characters a greater sense of presence and purpose.
• iNPCs will have avatars and signatures and be able to truly reflect their unique personality.
• Certain facets of characters (such as wands and some abilities) were previously out of reach but no longer are with the use of a secondary account.
• This opens doors for more lateral movement, which will disincentivize deactivations.
Additional Considerations
• The process for this will involve the expectation of transparency - their signature will need to have their main account's full name and their main account will need to have their NPC account listed. This must be in a color that can be viewed by humans and in no less than our default font size.
• iNPCs are not a secondary source of income, only the main account will be able to earn income in the common room. Either account in theory can create a shop.
• iNPCs will be eligible for house rewards (because they have access to the HW system) and will be associated OC to a house (for reasons to be explained below).
How will players sign up?
1. Players who are registered with Index may apply for their 1 iNPC after they have remained active on their account for a minimum of 6 months. Members who have deactivated their previous account and made a new one would need to maintain this new account for at least 6 months to be eligible.
2. Applications for iNPCs can be found Here.
3. Once the iNPC is approved for creation, meaning they have met the base criteria, the user can create a new account for their iNPC. We ask the member to clearly post iNPC at the top of the bio area along with their user name so the validation staff can quickly identify this IP connection.
4. We will also ask members to clearly articulate which school they will be attending, their nationality, residence and city because the locations members have default access to are in the UK. The validation staff will submit an admin request to update these facets of your profile card. Due to the numerous elements that need editing, we have provided a form here to assist with this process. Furthermore, if you are not joining as a first year (this continues to align with your present character's year) we need this to be clearly articulated so we can verify the year of birth accurately and we can submit an admin request to give you the proper year-based permissions.
5. You may be asked to make backstory and description edits, the application submitted in #2 is merely basic demographic information and verification of eligibility. Please pay attention to the unique nuances of your school.
6. When you are validated, you will notice that you have entered the sorting ceremony. This is normal, while you will not be a Hogwarts student, this is so we know what house you would have be or would be if you transferred to Hogwarts (explanation of this will be found below). You will not have access to the common rooms or the daily stipend/scholarship.
7. Register your iNPC, this is a similar process for your iNPC.
What About Spells and Classes?
• You will be able to attend classes with your iNPC account. It is assumed that your school teaches you too! This means you will have the opportunity to learn spells for free by completing ther class and earning better than a T. Please do not copy-paste your HW from your PC, we will notice. Please do not use AI. These could result in a T grade and with a T you will not get the spell or potion.
• iNPcs can have access to potions also.
• You can buy spells in the shop. While you do not make any money, you can transfer funds between your main account and your iNPC if you so choose. Alternatively, goblin iNPCs would have access to the secondary funds found at Gringotts.
As for spells you should have pre-transition. Your PC and NPC as of this time share spells, as such your iNPC will be eligible for the same spells as your PC. This is why it is so important to update your trunk. A deadline for trunk updating, would mean that your character is eligible for the same items and would need to apply for them. There would be a transition process for these members, but it is important to note that we will not be offering this forever.
What effect does my House have?
Because you were sorted into a house, we can include you in on rewards for house cup. Yes, we know IC you would not be celebrating a house-specific win, but you are still contributing house points. As such, you are eligible for house cup prizes.
Also, we are planning to introduce transfers to Hogwarts. While only your PC can be at Hogwarts, you can transfer your iNPC and your PC, meaning your PC goes to another school and your iNPC starts to attend Hogwarts. This process will be discussed in another post, but having a house tied to your account, makes it possible to know what house to give your character so they do not have to share your PC's house.
How will players with already existing NPCs transition?
1. Ensure their player character's trunk is up to date. We are going to be giving spells and potions based on the your present spell/potion list so your iNPC can get their spell and potion items during the transition process.
2. Complete the application applications for iNPCs can be found Here.
3. Once the iNPC is approved for creation, meaning they have met the base criteria, the user can create a new account for their iNPC. We ask for the elements of that application to be copied, with the exception of the spell and potion list to be in the bio area.
4. We also ask members to add their iNPC name to their main account's signature and their PC's name to their iNPC's signature.
5. Admin will be editing various facets of your account.
5. You may be asked to make backstory and description edits, the application submitted in #2 is merely basic demographic information and verification of eligibility. Please pay attention to the unique nuances of your school. This is unlikely if you have been RPing your character a long time, but they may need clarification.
What is this about transfers?
We plan to offer iNPCs the opportunity to transfer to Hogwarts, making them the main character and the former character to become the iNPC. This workflow will be released shortly.

Minor Change to iNPC Creation
We are continuing to work on iNPC accounts. We have tested various staff accounts, broke a few and determined what works and what does not. Over the next few hours your application will likely be accepted and you will be able to make an iNPC account.
While determining what worked and what did not, we did discover that we needed to change the application process so that certain permissions and modules are not given out of order (unless we -wanted- to break you account).
The changes are as follows:
1. We simplified the initial application.
If you used the original one, thank you. You do not need to make any edits.Name of PC:
Name of iNPC:
School of iNPC:
2. In your iNPC character's bio, we only need you to provide us with the following information as well as 220 words overall. The word count is what pulls your account into our queue. We are not particularly worried about the content since we are only approving existing iNPCs at this time, this is more a formality. The part we really need is a statement on the top or bottom of your bio area that tells us.
3. After you have been validated and you have completed the sorting ceremony, we ask that you post in the iNPC registry thread for your specific school.Name of PC:
Name of iNPC:
School of iNPC:
Year:
Durmstrang | Ilvermorny | Koldovstoretz | Tenūsa | Uagadou | Castelobruxo | Mahoutokoro | Beauxbatons
That is because we need to give you your items and permissions AFTER you have been sorted, otherwise your account may be locked. This data above will provide us with the demographic data we need for your character as well as your potion and spells that we need to give your character.Name of PC:
Name of iNPC:
School of iNPC:
Year:
Sport: Quidditch, Broom Racing, Duelling
Link to PC Encyclopedia:
Link to iNPC Encyclopedia:
Half-breed: Yes / No
Are you a part-goblin, parselmouth or werewolf? (If so, which one?)
Wandmaker: Yes / No (If yes, specify wand)
Patronus: (If already approved)
Nationality:
Residence:
Copy of PC Trunk Spells/Potions: (Do not include restricted spells/potions)
Please note, it may take a few days to complete the process because multiple staff will need to process your account. Usergroups and demographic data is managed by admin and trunks as well we encyclopedia posts are managed by iNPC/validation staff. There may be some cross over, but the process can be time-consuming.

June is internationally recognized as Pride Month — a time to honor and celebrate the LGBTQ+ community, reflect on the progress made, and acknowledge the ongoing challenges many still face today.
Pride Month commemorates the Stonewall Riots of June 1969, a pivotal moment in LGBTQ+ history when queer individuals stood up against police raids and systemic discrimination at the Stonewall Inn in New York City. These events sparked the modern gay rights movement, and the first Pride marches were held the following year in 1970.
Did You Know?
- The first legal same-sex marriage in the U.S. took place in Massachusetts in 2004.
- Wisconsin was the first state to outlaw discrimination based on sexual orientation in 1982.
- In 1993, Minnesota became the first state to ban discrimination against transgender individuals.
- The Daughters of Bilitis, founded in 1955, was the first lesbian rights organization in the U.S.
- As of February 2025, 65 countries criminalize consensual same-sex relationships; 8 countries impose the death penalty for homosexuality.
- The APA declassified homosexuality as a mental disorder in 1973.
- The WHO reclassified being transgender in 2019, moving it from a mental disorder to a sexual health category.
- Khnumhotep and Niankhkhnum are believed by scholars to be the first recorded same-sex couple in ancient history around 2450 BC.
The Reality Today
- LGBTQ+ individuals are 5x more likely to be victims of violent crime and 9x more likely to experience violent hate crimes.
- A 2023 survey found that 54% of LGBTQ+ youth reported symptoms of depression.
- A study by Stonewall found:
- Half of LGBTQ+ people had experienced depression.
- Three in five experienced anxiety.
- One in eight LGBTQ+ individuals aged 18–24 had attempted suicide.
- Nearly half of all trans people had contemplated suicide.
Why This Matters To Us
Our community includes a significant number of LGBTQ+ members — writers, roleplayers, and friends — who deserve to feel seen, supported, and safe.
While I may not personally identify as LGBTQ+, I am committed to advocating for a space where acceptance, kindness, and inclusion are part of our foundation.
Visibility, empathy, and solidarity matter — not just this month, but always.
Wishing everyone a safe, joyful, and proud Pride Month!

Stat Points - iNPC and PC Sports Win
As part of our ongoing transition, we have created iNPC sub-accounts and a part of this means that they will be getting their own separate area for stats, abilities, spells and potions. Among the chaos, it is easy to miss things so, we wanted to clarify stat points for sport wins here.
Please update your trunk with any sport wins.
The above message includes stats from sport wins in addition to spells + potions. As a reminder, your trunk serves as a record of your character’s stats, abilities, spells, and potions. During our inventory migration, we asked players to ensure their trunks were up to date so we could accurately transfer this data into the new system. A huge thank you to everyone who completed those updates!
For those who did not update their trunks during the initial window, we are offering a limited-time grace period to make those edits now.
This means that any sport wins on your PC can be claimed on your iNPC account and vice versa until this deadline. Recent games / any games that finish this month can also be claimed, as long as the updates are made by 1st July 2025.Deadline for Trunk Edits: July 1
From July onwards, we will then only accept stat points earned on that specific account and wins will no longer be shared. Please read this FAQ for more information about the transition.
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out!
This is my former staff account.
