iNPC Quidditch Players - Summer Games

Calling all iNPC Quidditch Players! Your teams have been assigned. You will now find you have access to a board under the Quidditch Stadium for your team, as well as a discord channel (for those of you in discord). If you are missing either of these, please owl me and let me know.

You can start using these areas to discuss strategy for your upcoming games, which will be starting this weekend. You may also wish to pick one person to submit the strategy on the team's behalf every moderation.

A few students have been moved to another school (not their own) to balance numbers and remove the need of having NPCs. You were clearly good enough to help out another school IC.

The summer duelling games are about to begin! In-character the duels will be taking place the weekend of August 10th and 11th. Out of character, they will be going up this weekend, on August 3rd and 4th

Note that due to uneven numbers, some duels will be 2 vs 2, while others will be 3 vs 3. We tried to keep the duels as balanced as possible, using stat total first, and ability count second - with your iNPC school as a tie breaker. Several Changes to the iNPC Program are Anticipated for the 2024 School Year

We plan to open up iNPC Creation and Edits to a year-round program that will be facilitated by the new iNPC Team. This has been a multi-month transition project where we have spent months training these new members and developing the framework of this new team. This change will be a sequential process (please see below). There are some restrictions and limitations associated with this program to accommodate the year-round maintenance of this program and to reduce hastily made (only to be later regretted) decisions by players.

In short, the changes are as follows:
- iNPCs will be open year-round for creation and edit, however there is now a prerequisite of being both registered and having the same account for at least 6 months.
- iNPCs will no longer be restricted to certain blood status' in certain schools, however if your character attended the school prior to the 2024 school year, we will expect applicants to explain their character's history in additional detail if they choose to take a special race (such as part veela or part giant) or special ability (such as parselmouth).
- Players will no longer be restricted to 2 total posts for their iNPC encyclopedia, they can have several posts for things like a thread tracker or relationships. However, we are changing the trunk requirements to coincide with the Index encyclopedia trunk requirements.

Aspects that have not changed:
- Pets are still not available to iNPCs with the exception of Parselmouth. However, we are discussing possibly opening this up next year.
- Please do not discuss what wood or core your wand is unless you have the ability wandmaker. However, we are discussing the possibility of changing this policy to something else, most likely being the same wand as the main account. If this occurs, this will require a new vote as the most recent vote for this change failed and would not happen before next year and may never happen.
- iNPCs still gain the benefit of prodigal learner as the spell list is shared. However, it is anticipated that this will change and that the iNPC spells will need to be maintained individually. This change will likely occur next year. The reason for this mention is for the awareness of the playerbase to keep an ability slot free for prodigal learner if this is something relevant to your iNPC.
- Some schools start earlier, we are not changing the canon but we are changing this initial year to foundation year and their first year that aligns with other schools as year 1. This is so that we can align school years and reduce confusion for both moderators and players. This specifically involves Durmstrang.
- Animagus and Patronus are not yet available to iNPCs but we intend to make this available next year. We have a very new team and a lot of other transitions to manage.

Timeline
As of Sept 1 2024, the iNPC Program will be opening up for Character Re-Creation until October 1 2024. This program is limited to players who already have a pre-existing iNPC that wish to make a new one, taking advantage of the changes we have made to the iNPC system. This option is open temporarily and will not be offered again.

Why: The changes to the iNPC system are so vast that the very core of this system has changed. This will not be offered with every update or edit to the site systems because the core concept will remain the same. This requires a lot of work so this will not be offered in the foreseeable future. The reason we are stating that this will be offered on Sept. 1 and not today is so that you consider carefully what you want. Often players make characters in haste that they regret or they realize that the character they made is hollow and without substance, ultimately missing their previous character. [Read] Once you deactivate your previous character, you will not be able to return to them - they are gone forever.

How: If you wish to deactivate your character, you just need to say so in the update thread with a link to your character encyclopedia. The staff will deactivate this and update the school roster.

Make certain all threads involving this character are complete, once your character has been deactivated, you will no longer have access to them. Once your deactivation has been approved, when character creation opens up on Sept 15, you will be able to create a new character.

As of Sept 15 2024, we will be opening up the iNPC Program to initial creation. This is for players that do not have an iNPC and wish to create one.

- It is strongly recommended that you make a character that you like, we do not anticipate offering a deactivation program for iNPCs in the future because this effectively doubles our workload and it effects the storylines and relationships of your fellow players.
- Players that are y2 or above with special races will need to explain how they are at the school of choice (such as transferred in) and it would need to make sense. We cannot approve that you were a werewolf going to the school for the last 3 years before they admitted those and "nobody noticed."
- Please be respectful of our time and read the creation rules, understand your setting, meet the wc requirements and not give the mods a novella to read because we have a lot of apps to review.
- If you choose to engage in this program, you are giving up your former iNPC, you will not have an option to "switch back" if you change your mind.

As of Oct 1 2024, we will be opening up the iNPC characters to edits. This is for players that have a character and wish to update their abilities, backstory, etc.

- We cannot accept edits to pre-existing character to 'make them into a special race' or 'change their blood status to a previous one that we did not previously accept.' This is because you have been playing your character for some time and your bio served as a source of truth in terms of interactions with other players.
- As deactivations are closed as of Oct 1, you will only be able to edit your existing character from here on. You cannot change stat allocations, swap out abilities or change previously roleplayed facets of your character's story.
- We have new requirements for trunks, with your update we will ask you to provide an edited trunk code since.

Why are you telling us all of this now?

So you can make an informed (read "not impulsive") decision if you make any changes or choose to deactivate. Please use this time to think about what you want. Please, for the love of Merlin, create a character that can stand on its own and with others, if you tie yourself to another user that chooses to deactivate or leaves the community, it can leave you hanging without a story to tell.
