PERSONALITY
There’s no way around it but to say that Louca is fearless, and an adventurer at heart. He is always looking for the next big thing he can do, or place he can travel. For Louca, life is all about the experiences, not items. He very rarely says no to a dare even if that might mean injury, and never looks further than a couple of days down the road. Usually, this means he procrastinates and then scrambles to get things done on time, sometimes failing. But Louca isn’t bothered if he doesn’t manage to get something done, or at least done on time because homework or bills are not necessary, but instead optional. If there’s something else that can be done that will actually be fun or amusing or interesting, Louca will definitely do that first. Louca is fairly easily distracted, and sometimes jumps from topic to topic, his brain speeding at fifty miles an hour, to the point that his mouth just can’t keep up with his brain sometimes.
No matter how many injuries or failures he’s experienced, he always gets back up again and just keeps going. No one ever got anywhere by letting things get in their way and failure is the same to Louca. He also doesn’t take himself too seriously, preferring to have a good laugh over a fall or unexpected accident.
Louca is a smooth-talker, and has no problem telling lies. He prefers keeping people happy and smiling, but also oblivious of what he truly thinks. He’s a bit of a chameleon fitting in many different groups and flowing easily between them. He puts himself first, because no one else will ever look out for him, so he’s got to make sure that he does it himself. This means he avoids asking for help, instead determined to figure out everything by himself.

APPEARANCE
Louca is several inches above average for his age, standing at 5’2, though he hopes he grows several more inches as both of his parents are taller. He’s a thin, lanky boy, who only weighs about 115 pounds. Louca has thick brownish-black hair that always has a bit of a wave to it, and that is frequently tousled although that could be because he only quickly runs a comb through it in the mornings. His eyes match his hair, being a dark brown, and his lips are thin. He very rarely gives a smile where you can see his teeth, preferring to hide them behind a tight lipped smile or grin. Louca’s chin is rather pointed and his face is an oval shape.

HISTORY
Louca was born on December 13th, 2010 to Ember and Drake Dufort, two members from what used to be respectable pureblood families, one in France, the other Canadian. Well, at least his father was. His mother’s family was still respectable but had disowned Ember when she married “that Dufort boy” as her father had always said with disdain dripping from his voice. But the two were in love, and no one could keep them apart. Who needed the money and respect if they didn’t have love? Drake’s family had unfortunately fallen on hard times. A great-grandfather had invested unwisely, and their misfortune was furthered by a bit of a quirky uncle who spent his money on everything from wellington boots to muggle gadgets. Needless to say by the time that Drake was born, the money was gone and his parents were forced to run cons to make a living. Of course, as one does the cons were discovered and they became pariahs to reputable pureblood society.
Louca was born in Montreal, Quebec, and that was the longest stint his parents stayed in one place. They lasted almost two years before moving to a small town in Nova Scotia, then across the border to New Hampshire, and well, the states and provinces continued on. Louca grew up in a household where French and English were spoken interchangeably which has made for some interesting turns of phrases. Every time they moved, his parents always made it an adventure (rather than admitting they were running to avoid the law and the angry people they had swindled from their money. To Louca, it was normal. He claims Quebec as his home because he was born there and it is somewhere his parents frequently return to but that’s mostly to keep people from asking too many questions. Louca learned early on that the name of the game was distract, and deceive.
From the time he was old enough to hold a deck of cards, his parents were involving him in their schemes. He learned to use his looks as a weapon and to always keep people happy, whatever that meant. Although never to the point of physically hurting or killing others. His parents may have lower standards but there were lines they would not cross. By the age of five he had become quite proficient in a number of muggle card tricks, admittedly with a card deck that was smaller than normal considering his hands were only so big.
However, on this particular day he was struggling to get the Triumph. It should have been simple but he just could not get it to work. His parents were doing their best to teach him and then distract him once his frustration became clear, but Louca was just as determined to get it right. Finally, Louca did the trick, and showed his father the one card that was upside down. By the look on Drake’s face, Louca knew he had failed once more. Screwing up his face, he felt so awful, and stupid. Right in front of Drake’s face, the card changed suit and number several times, before settling on the card that Drake had chosen. Drake of course knew that his son had just displayed true magic and picked his son up, swinging him around and laughing. It wasn’t until Drake explained to Louca that he understood what had happened. You see, his parents hadn’t hidden that they had magic, but considering the wizarding laws had very strict secrecy laws, Drake and Ember stuck to muggle cons such as fortune telling, fake potions, muggle magic tricks, anything they could pick up to make a quick buck. So Louca hadn’t really put two and two together and realized that he could do actual magic and not just make things happen that look like magic.
Now that Louca knew he had true magic, he became even more daring then he had been previously. Before this, he was eager to climb every surface he could (including rock walls without harnesses, and cliffs), and then subsequently jump off most of said surfaces. He did not jump if there wasn’t going to be a softer landing than a bunch of jagged rocks or ways to slow himself down, but still, he was always looking for the next adrenaline rush. His parents encouraged the behavior, knowing that experiences were the only true things that stuck around. After displaying magic, he became just that bit more reckless, thinking that magic would save him in the end. Of course this also meant that he ended up accruing more injuries like a broken leg, torn ligaments, and a few others but hey, he was still alive.
The winter Louca turned 11, his parents decided to try their hands at a shop in New Orleans, figuring that there was already muggles who claimed magic existed there, so why shouldn’t they try to settle even a little bit. They did open a shop, and started running classes and special nights, really playing things up for the tourists especially. The shop was moderately successful, but of course they couldn’t stay still for that long. There were frequent periods where they would either close up the shop or find someone to cover it for a bit and just go wandering again, even in the six months until Louca received his Ilvermorny letter. Louca had heard about the school from his mother and was excited for a new adventure. Though there is a niggling doubt that it will be no fun at all considering the uniforms and the structure of the school.

ABILITIES Fearless Word Count: 498/400
Louca had always been the first to agree to do….well, anything. His parents believed in experiences and that showed in all of the things Louca had done in his somewhat short life. He had jumped off of cliffs, with bungee cords or into a body of water, he had swam in cages with the sharks and he had free soloed several cliffs. Those were only a few of his accomplishments. It seemed clear to his parents that there was something about their son that was special.
In the conversations he had had with marks, tourists and passersby, Louca had all heard them describe this feeling they had whenever they were about to do something they were afraid of. It made no sense to Louca. He couldn’t understand that others would be sweating, cowering, or even just refusing to do something, their heart pounding, hyperventilating. Instead he had felt exhilaration, and joy, an eagerness to beat the challenge. But he just shrugged it off figuring the exhilaration was likely fear, or he was misremembering things to make himself seem cooler.
It wasn’t until Louca was 8 and had decided to go free soloing on a cliff that rose close to 15 feet above the flat ground near where his family had set up their camp. He had climbed almost to the top, only losing a foot hold or hand hold once or twice, and it was nothing to grab back on to the rock. He felt nothing in that moment but joy and excitement, even looking down just made him excited to finish the climb. Louca came to an area of the cliff where there was a much larger gap between the next handhold then he had thought, it was more than he could reach, and Louca determined that if he was going to make it, he was going to have to do a jump, and grab a very precise rock and pull himself up with that one handhold.
Louca didn’t hesitate, although his heart did begin to beat faster, but that was not from fear of missing or falling, instead it was excitement that he was actually going to do this and defy gravity even for a little bit.
Throwing his body to where it needed to be, Louca whooped out loud when his hand grabbed hold. Pulling himself up so he could place his feet where they needed to be to help hold his body, Louca realized that this truly was not fear, and that he had just done something with no gear, that most adults would fear to do (though they likely would have had the arm span or leg span to cross the gap). That was also when he realized that, no, he had been right in that he had not experienced fear, and instead had just been trying to fit other people’s experience into his own. Determined that he would not do so any longer, Louca finished his climb, grinning from ear to ear.
