NATHAN ATLAS HAWTHORN
"Good judgment comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment."
Name: Nathaniel Atlas Hawthorne
School: Ilvermorny
Year: Second
Status: Muggleborn
Appearance: Nate has short, messy brown hair. His eyes are a dark green, though are often mistaken for brown. He has a thin, athletic build and pale skin. His height is 5 foot 1
Personality: Daring and witty, Nate appears charming to those who like him, and arrogant to those who don't. He loves to make jokes and play sports. To others, he seems to be fearless, however that is a facade. He is actually insecure and timid, although very few people know that. He loves to play sports and is very athletic, but he also loves to paint when he's alone and is an avid reader.
History/Background Story:
Nate was born in Quebec on the 2nd of November 2010. He never knew his father and has never wanted to know. His mother raised him in Montreal until he was five, when she got a job in Toronto and they moved. French is his first language and he is fluent in both French and English.
As a kid, he was very shy. He was reluctant to make friends and preferred to read on his own rather than interacting with others. However, this all changed when he joined the school soccer team. He soon made friends with many of the other team members and gained in confidence. However, some of his friends began to make mean jokes about his paintings. He stopped painting and threw himself into his soccer, becoming one of the best members on the team. He was a Keeper and rarely let a goal in, helping the team win many matches.
Weird stuff always seemed to follow Nate around as a child. Both he and his mother brushed it off as luck or coincidence. But this couldn't have been a coincidence. When Nate was eight, he was climbing a tree in his garden. His mother was standing at the window, watching him. He had been climbing the tree since he was little, and his mother, Marie, trusted him not to go too high. However, on that day, Nate had decided to see if he could climb a little higher than normal. He wasn't particularly high up, but the wet, cobbled floor below posed a danger if he fell. Which he did. Nate slipped on a wet branch and tumbled out of the tree. His mother rushed out of the door, terrified he was hurt and found him sitting at the base of the tree. He looked up at her, a confused expression on his face. Rather than hitting the ground, he had floated for a moment, a few centimetres from the cobbles below, then had fallen and landed safely. Marie had no words. She was just glad that he was safe.
As he got older, he realised that his friends weren't exactly what they seemed. He was still friends with them, but he drifted away from them and began painting again.
When he was about to turn eleven, he received his Hogwarts letter. A witch came to explain everything about magic. He was very sceptical, but his mum fully accepted it, realising it was an explanation for many of the things that had happened to Nate as he grew up. Nate began to research magic and discovered Quidditch, a game which he was eager to learn to play.

Keeper's Catch
Reducio
Nate had always had good reflexes. Whether it was catching a ball before it hit a window, or dodging out of the way of a falling tree, he would almost always succeed.
When he was six, his mother bought him a bouncy ball. It was a small, rubber one, about the size of a grape. He absolutely adored it. Nate would bring it everywhere, bouncing it as he went. There were more near misses than could be counted on an abacus. The ball almost hit windows, cars, animals, very expensive shop items and people. But Nate stopped it every time, just before it hit. He was fixated on that ball, watching it's every movement.
After a while, as many children do, he got a little bored of the ball. It was too small. This was around the time he met his friends. They saw his skill with the ball and immediately showed him to the captain of the school's soccer team. He would have gotten in as keeper too, if he hadn't been so young.
His friends began training with him until he was old enough. By then, he had improved even more and although footballs were much faster and heavier than rubber ones, he could still catch them very well.
Soon the time came for his first game. He was terrified, although he downplayed it. His stomach hurt, his arms were trembling and he thought he might be sick. But before he could say anything, the game had begun.
The team they were against were known for making aggressive shots on goal. They had terrorised most of the small league which they were in. However, they had never met Nate.
Every time a shot was even near the goal, Nate was there, passing it back to his team. With each failed attempt, they grew even more frustrated until it came to the final minute of the match. The score was nil - nil. The opposing team took possession of the ball, the striker running forwards as fast as they could, past the midfield, past the defenders and to the goal, where they passed the ball before Nate could even react. It sailed in a perfect arc, right into the back of the net. Nate was devastated. He had lost them the match.
Just when he had abandoned all hope however, the referee called it out. The ball was offside.
Nate and his teammates hugged and cheered, having won the match!

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using 'Content here, content here', making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for 'lorem ipsum' will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).

Nate had always been shy. He never understood how others could just walk up to someone and start a conversation - how did they know what to say? Making friends was hard - every conversation he had he would second-guess himself, trying to see whether he was saying the right thing. He never knew what people were thinking. When he asked him mum, she seemed surprised that he found it hard to tell what someone was thinking or feeling from their facial expressions.
It wasn't just that. Nate disliked eye contact. It scared him, the way that others analysed his face. People would look at him and he'd look away - instead looking at anything he could find. He became perceptive, noticing the creases on shirts, the scuffs on shoes. Anything was better than faces.
He would notice things, things others didn't. The way his mothers' hands shook when she told him she'd lost her job. The ring that used to be on her finger that disappeared when he was six. That was the day she told him about his father. But recently there had been something else.
Nate had returned home for the Christmas holidays of 2023. His mum had been happier then ever, helping him put up all the decorations and even some ivy they'd found in the park. The next day, she was wearing her best clothes, excited for whatever was coming. That's when Nate realised. She'd found someone.
His theory was correct. She introduced them at a cafe, clearly unsure how Nate would react. Nate didn't mind too much - Paul seemed nice. He was an artist and he immediately realised Nate's love of art. He made Marie happy, and that was all Nate could want. Paul and Nate quickly bonded, and Nate agreed that Paul could stay.
However, when Nate returned for Christmas the next year, something was off. Nate didn't know what it was or why he knew it was different - he just had a feeling.
His mum was happier than ever, but also more tired. Paul had taken up residence in their house permanently, which Nate didn't mind, but he was spending a lot of time with Nate's mum, leaving Nate annoyed and lonely. Eventually, Nate had had enough. He sat them down one evening and asked what was going on.
"We're having a baby! We didn't want to tell you until I'd had a proper check-up, but now you know!"
Nate was surprised but also relieved. He'd worried that the feeling was something bad, but a new brother or sister was something he could get on board with. He was glad that his family was all alright, and about to get bigger!
