Splashing through the water while searching for your broom, and then wondering if it’s actually your broom because all of your other teammates had also fallen off at the same spot was rather disheartening. Thankfully, Alyss only had to deal with this briefly, before finally locating it and giving a faint sigh of relief.

Broom clutched firmly in their hand, Alyss climbed aboard and sat up straight, adjusting their posture quickly, before taking off, ready to join the race.

Failure chased Astra like a ravenous predator after flighty prey. Try as she might, it was always there to snap her up in its jaws and shred her to pieces.

For the first time, Albany didn't respond. He didn't move to her commands, his mind opposed hers. Astra could already feel the tears welling in her eyes. She'd failed.

Stop, stop, get your head back in the game. Come on Albany. Come on, bud. Failure was not an option, defeat was not a choice.

The race started out just as most of them did and badger and snake alike took off as quickly as they could, gaining height and speed like rocketed power. If any two houses had determination and each equally wanted to win and prepared for this match. Simon flew, for awhile, close with his Hufflepuff partners and his Slytherin counterparts. He saw the way Colin's attention was focused on AngelFyre as it so often was and in this occurance it felt rather bothersome - as sometimes the Slytherin's mischief could go too far and turn into something more fierce as he was impulsive.

Simon tried his best to remain focused on the track, but his eyes were also on that paticular opponent. Perhaps that's why on this cloudy day he didn't anticipate nor catch any warning signs that an impossibly bright patch of light was before him and that's where this dhampir really began to struggle. He couldn't see and that probably affected most of the racers as they went through this track, but oh how it hurt.

And no sooner had Colin recovered from his blatch attempt on AngelFyre than he and his bestie carreened through super bright sunlight. Apart from the breakneck speed, it felt like a nice flight through the Highlands on a beautiful day with your best friend! And, of course, apart from your best friend trying to stab you in the back!

Colin found himself thinking how grand it would be to race with Emmi again! He turned back to AngelFyre, about to shout over how much he was enjoying the flight with her. But! AngelFyre was nowhere to be seen! Colin squinted into the bright light. She was nowhere to be seen! Had she been blatched?

Colin smirked.

"Welp! That's one less badgerette to worry abou---WHOOOOAAAAAAAAA!!!"

SMASH!!!

Something --- no, some one --- smacked right into Colin! She brought with her a familiar scent of sun on hair and hot choco and herbs. "FYRRREEEE!!!" Colin cried out as he felt himself lifted off his broom.

Oh craporific, he thought. Being knocked off his broom always brought a great risk for Vailrama to take it out on him in a very personal way! The broom loved to fly, there was no mistake about it! And it let Colin know in no uncertain terms that being knocked off was going to be super painful!

"UFF!" Colin landed in a heap on the ground. He watched as AngelFyre gave him a friendly wave and some parting words. He narrowed his eyes. Right. "Just wait til I get back on me broom Fyre Angel!" he shouted up into the air as his bestie sped along the track.

Speaking of.

Colin looked around.

Where was that dratted broom anyway. It struck him that lying flat on his back was not the best place to be just at this --- "Oh crapcrapcrap!!"

Vailerama sped straight down towards Colin! Colin scrambled to move out of the way! Vailerama changed course slightly! This was going to hurt!

THUMMPPP!!

Colin moaned.

His eyes crossed.

Vailerama's aim was certainly spot on. Colin curled up in a ball of pain. Vailerama tipped over and clattered against his racing helmet. The pain washed over Colin. Colin groaned as he got up. Someone really needed to invent an enchanted protective. A lad could only take so many hits just there!

Welp, there was nothing for it, but to get back on his broom and take to the sky again!

The surprising hit of the other had sent him off his broom, a shocking loss to his pride. However, Tristan always adapted to his environment without complaint or comment. So, he did the same in this instance. He looked for his broom and mounted it again, without emotion and without a comment. He would move forward either way.

𝓣he Hufflepuffs seemed to be soaring past! Shaking off the sting on her arm, she pressed forward, tailing after her seniors as they headed towards the next unit. Alyssea was far ahead, and Ruth hoped to catch and and tell her that they were doing--

In all her wondrous daydreaming the light that blinded her pulled her out of it and she cringed, almost instinctively holding up both hands to shield herself from the light. But of course she didn't do that. She ducked down instead, but it was too late. Dark spots of floaters danced in her vision, flaring bright as she unconsciously followed them. She fixed her gaze onto someone's broom-was it Simon's?- and continued the race, eyes blinking rapidly in mild desperation to get the spots out. They were disorientating.
