As Linda graciously answered his questions, following his lead at info-dumping, Quentin finished off his limeade. The words Earley, Switzerland, guitar, and star seemed to rush past him, twinkling by his ears. He was simultaneously zoned in on what Linda was saying, hanging off her every word, but also he was floating next to them, a rush of light feelings lifting him higher. Did they put something in the drinks? Happy but unnerved, he put his plate of charcuterie on a nearby table—he rather liked the limeade feeling and didn't want to risk whatever the food could be spiked with. Or maybe the feeling was coming from his company? Was this "cloud seven" or whatever the English idiom was? Was this falling feeling—falling in love?
He had no idea. He was only thirteen for godsakes, but whatever was happening, he wanted to stay here. "I speak French with my dad mostly, he's Cajun. From Louisiana, so he spoke French natively—though it's definitely a different dialect. Sometimes I fall into his accent—got made fun of quite a bit for that in Paris. Mais en Suisse, on y parle français. Attends, désolé, est-ce que je parle français maintenant ?" But in Switzerland they speak French there. Wait, sorry, am I speaking French right now?
Huh, that had never happened to him before. That wasn't even how bilingualism worked. This euphoric feeling was overwhelming him. What a night! "Sorry! I was just saying, oh it's very nice you get to travel to Switzerland—they speak French there, too—also a bit of a different accent. What's this Earley like? Is it a small town?" Quentin imagined the redhead sitting in a small park in a small village playing guitar—she was definitely cool. "You get to see a lot of the stars there? It's hard to see them in Paris. But I like getting out into nature—my dad and I take fishing trips over the summer, especially if we visit the U.S. That's also my favorite part about Beauxbatons, we have wonderful gardens to spend time in the sun in, and it's easy to hike nearby."
The euphoria that was spreading through had replaced his previous nervousness, and Quentin was starting to feel like his old fearless self. He once again grabbed Linda's hand. "Would you like to dance—"
But he was interrupted by a scuffle nearby. Little furry things were now running about the ball. "It seems that Hogwarts has a lot of nature, too? Does this happen a lot?"

Magical Masquerade: the actual ball
Mahlioz, in the middle of sipping her drink, stopped suddenly, frowning over the top of the glass at her best friend. Had she... understood that correctly? Or was there something wrong with her ears? Yes, Irina was eccentric, that was for sure, but Mahlioz had never heard anything like this from her before.

They watched in shock as she went from laughing in surprise to confused to panicked, throwing her own drink to the ground before following suit with Mahlioz's own. But it was too late.
Fire was coming out of their mouth. Lmao this would be so much more fitting if it was Zophyr, wearing their dragon costume
Mahlioz screamed, which was about the worst thing they could have done in that moment, because an even bigger blast of fire spewed out and blackened the ground below them. Sure, it was thankfully not that big at the moment, when you thought about it rationally - smaller than a couple feet. But Mahlioz was not able to think rationally, because it was FIRE. Keep your head down keep your head down don't burn anyone WHAT IN THE THREE HELLS IS GOING ON. As she breathed in, she realized the fire stopped. So she held her breath. And no fire came out.
They only had a couple of seconds, because Mahlioz had never been good at sports, and holding her breath was hard. But it was enough to look up in absolute terror at Irina. Their best friend didn't seem to be in any kind of better mental state, because she looked just as freaked out, though whether that was because of the fire or the insanity that had been her earlier sentences (if they could even be called that), Mahlioz did not know. And she wouldn't know, because she needed to breathe out.
As much as she tried to keep her breath slow and quiet and gentle, that didn't stop the fire. Were they turning into a dragon?? How were they supposed to stop this??? Water, water, I need water, get- but they breathed out again in a panic and a nearby chair leg got incinerated, making said chair topple over. How could they get water when they burned everything they approached? What was she supposed to do??
Action: AAAHHHHHH(burning the leg of a nearby chair to a crisp)

❂ April 13, 2024 ▎ 4:00 PM ❂▪ ◚ ◚ ◚ ❂ ◚ ◚ ◚ ▪Raizel was dragged by her friend… onto the dance floor of all places!
Her voice is already squeaky and here she is, standing on the very place that she avoids the most in every ball she has been. She can’t dance, that’s one reason why she and the dance floor don’t mix well. She’d rather not embarrass herself by trying to bust some moves that she couldn’t do. Second, probably the attention that dancing could potentially draw to her, even just standing here is probably drawing tons of it. For someone who doesn’t like being in the spotlight or getting notice, that’s a nightmare.
“Can’t you have just dragged us somewhere else?” She couldn’t help but say despite the difficulties she’s having concerning communications. Alyssea seems to have the talent for this though, following the steps of their Ravenclaw friend. Slowly, she backed away, a nervous smile on her face, trying to slip away back to the sides where it’s safer. It was soon replaced by surprise when Zach decided to give Alyssea a good hit on the face… accidentally of course. He was dancing so wildly so that’s bound to happen. All Raizel could do was stare with mouth wide open before speaking. “Unbelievable…”
In retaliation, Alyssea took a step forward trying to trip the boy using his cape. Yeah.. she can’t leave these two here. In a way, it was interesting to watch and she wants to see how this goes despite how ridiculous it is.▪ ▫ ◙ 248/200 ◙ ▫ ▪

Basic in place, basic in place, link, fallaway rock. The Fox danced the Jive steps happily and of course, obliviously. The energy that surged inside him from the drink he had drunk made the boy enjoy the night to the maximum. He giggled, jumped, and… accidentally punched The Bobcat. However, The Fox was too oblivious to notice that. The adrenaline rushed along with dopamine made him too happy to notice anything. He was still dancing happily.
Well, that did not last longer until his cape was stepped on, making The Fox lose his balance and spin for a second in the air. His face hit the ground and followed by a loud “Ouch!” The Fox was still on the ground, staying still from the shock. After he was stable, he slowly stood up. But the corner of his eyes caught something. An orange thing under The Bobcat's dress. But The Fox wasn't sure. Maybe he was just imagining things.
He finally stood up and gave a big grin to The Bobcat and The Wolf. And the next thing was, he tasted something weird coming from the top of his lips. “I think I got a nosebleed,” he said, still with a big grin on his face.

Yasha paused and made a thinking kind of "hmmm" noise as he considered her words. "Well, if one has open communication with their friend and they feel offended by an action, they should be able to talk it out and realize that it was just a part of the game." He said, thoughtfully as he continued to take her around the dance floor for the moment. "Similarly, unless something really terrible happens, one should be able to keep their head in the game. Injuries are bound to happen in sports especially and you can't go running with a bandage every time your teammate or opponent gets hurt." He continued with a nonchalant shrug. "Injuries, along with conflicts and hurt feelings, can be dealt with when the match is over."
He chuckled in response to her giggle. It was fun to tease her, and even better that she took it so well. Many girls didn't, which was another reason he strayed from a lot of them when he didn't have too. Frankly, boys sometimes didn't take jokes well either and that was a real annoyance to Yasha. Why did purebloods have to be so serious all the time?
Yasha nodded as Kaya Rose expressed her wish to move on to the crafting area and he flawlessly guided her off of the dance floor before dropped his arms and offering his elbow to her. "As you wish." He said with a charming smirk.
As he turned to lead her away, a flash of black fur caught his eye. Quickly moving her to the other side of him, he reached over to the nearest table, and yanked the tablecloth off of it. A cascade of dishes and decorations fell off the table and onto the ground as he flung the tablecloth at the charging ball of fur. "Nifflers! The vermin." He snapped with a scowl as he threw the tablecloth. Hopefully the thing would entangle itself and he could scoop it up like in a net.
While Nifflers weren't native to his Russian homeland, his uncle had thought it would be a good idea to bring a pair of them to the Dacha one summer. He was going to breed them and sell them. Well, one thing led to another, his uncle took off and left them in the care of the children and next thing anyone knew, they had in fact escaped custody, bred, and their little vermin offspring were running rampant all over the grounds. They had stolen every single piece of his mother's jewelry at one point and while they recovered most of it, they were still looking for the onyx ring her babushka had given her.
Yasha, who had refused to be involved in the start, and the children who had neglected the things, were put in charge of catching them and the job had wasted his whole summer finding every last one. Yasha hated nifflers. He wasn't one to harm any kind of animal, but nifflers he could live his whole life without interacting with again.
"It seems that Hogwarts is experiencing its regular event chaos." He said almost under his breath as he turned to see if Kaya was alright.

Magical Masquerade: the actual ball
ReducioUri's New Mask
https://i.ibb.co/HpqY6y6/bendermask.pngUri's face hurt quite badly as he continued to massage it under the weird mask. And it was quite weird - first, it resembled a horrible ape's face and second, it wouldn't come off. Uri was now feeling a bit stupid. Why oh why had he been so dumb as to put on a mask when there was no sender making themselves known. He was now quite sure that he was probably going to die - not from the punch - but the undoubtedly cursed mask which was now stuck to his face. But he had to keep his composure.
The next thing he knew, Siobhan was shoving an ice pack into his hand and telling he'd she'd be right back. As far as he was concerned she could stay away til the end of the bloody ball. Then again, something still intrigued him about her and part of his brain did want her to come back. He took the ice pack and held it under his nose. He wasn't sure how effective it would be give that he couldn't get the stupid mask off but anything had to be better than nothing. He cursed himself again for being so stupid.
Now that Siobhan was gone, Reggie had apparently decided that he could totally get the mask off. He huffed and puffed, and pulled with all his might but the mask would not come off. It wasn't a very comfortable experience. Uri knew the boy had meant well but he wasn't helping and he counted the pain intensifying as just making things worse. He chuckled as Reggie talked about it hurting, "Truth be told," he began, "It being stuck on doesn't really hurt, your attempts to get it off did a bit though."
As Reggie offered him the parfait he politely declined, "Perhaps now isn't the best time for parfait," and pulled himself to his feet. Now that Reggie had released his face, he held the ice pack back up to his nose as he watched Siobhan amble back towards them. When she asked Reggie about her dessert, Uri replied for him, "I think his idea was for me to enjoy it instead, but not to worry, I declined," he said as he smiled weakly behind the mask.
He then watched her do, well, something, but he had no idea what. Something involving honey and flowers and... parfait? He thought he'd just made it very clear he was not interested in dessert as she started to hand it to him. He saw the look on her face and is hurt as he was about getting randomly punched, he couldn't stay mad, something about that nose made him feel weird. He took the parfait from her as she spoke again.
And then he understood, well at least he thought he did. Apparently she had a knack for healing. He took it and made a toasting motion before saying, "Nice driveway," as he'd seen his father toast before, and with enough force to dislodged it from its vessel and into his throat, threw the mixture back. It didn't taste half bad, "Thank you," he said as he felt his face immediately hurt less. "In terms of making it up to me, I don't suppose you know how to get this mask off?"Action: Trying to get the mask offSTA 5 | EVA 3 | STR 3 | WIS 7 | ARC 7 | ACC 5

⋆˖⁺‧₊☽◯☾₊‧⁺˖⋆ "To love and be loved is to feel the sun from both sides"⋆˖⁺‧₊☽◯☾₊‧⁺˖⋆She fought a smile as Uri explained he had declined her stolen dessert, but it was to no avail. Reginald seemed to have devoured it in its entirety and she sighed to herself as she turned to reach for another one. She truthfully didn't know what to do with her hands and figured it best to occupy them with an object rather than leave them to potential destruction once again. She took a bite and wrinkled her nose slightly in excitement with how it tasted; just as lovely as before.
Siobhan looked at the masked boy, inwardly satisfied that he had downed her little on the spot concoction with now questions asked. It seemed to her that she was potentially on her way to a path of forgiveness. As for his question about his mask she was nervous. She knew she was stronger than many of her peers but she didn't want to risk hurting him anymore than she already had.
"Perhaps I can... I worry that in doing so I might hurt you further and that is exactly what I wish to avoid. Where perchance did you get this mask? It seems as though someone has opted to play a very cruel prank. Siobhan murmured as she reached out towards his mask to see if she could potentially and ever so gently pry it off his face. When it didn't give any sort of slack she pulled away and crossed her arms in a thoughtful manner. She had read up on sticking charms and she wondered if whoever had done it had meant for the mask to find its way onto someone else's face. She couldn't think of a reason why someone would deliberately target a first year with such a difficult spell unless it was potentially a bully. Uri seemed too nice to be bullied, and she hoped that wasn't the case.
Though if she had to suspect, she would assume that it was entirely possible.
"Would you by chance have accidentally disgruntled someone in your house? Perhaps an upperclassman or even someone who has more of a spell set than you do?" Siobhan mused as she looked at him with a studious expression. Well not so much she looked at him, but rather observered the edges of the mask and where it sat in reference to his eyes. They were still visible to the outside world and she could see them looking around.
She reached into her pocket as though looking for something- it wasn't until she remembered that her wand was in her dormitory that she let out a small sigh.
She wondered if perhaps there was an adherence to the inside of the mask, similar to when her older brothers Eoghan and Declan had given her other brother Cillian a greased up pumpkin and gotten it stuck on his head. They had needed to cut it off but she highly doubted that Uri would let her near him with a chopstick let alone a knife. She wasn't even sure he was going to talk to her after the ball and she wondered if she should just mosey off elsewhere and pray neither of them spread a rumor that she was a violent psychopath even though again it was inherently and completely an accident. The wrinkle in her nose appeared again as she thought about what might happen if that rumor spiraled.
Perhaps she would be the one with the sticky mask on her face if that happened... She shuddered at the thought. Goodness it was rather warm and she needed a drink from the table.

Aurélie sighed in relief as Emily accepted her offer to dance. Hopefully the other girl had come to the same comclusion about the drink and wouldn't return back for it or take another one from the table. The drinks, they must be poisoned with something.
Aurélie let herself get led off to the dance floor, her oddly acute senses making her head hurt. As they walked, little creatures began... attacking other students. Nifflers! They were obsessed with shiny things and Aurélie was glad that she wasn't wearing any jewelry. She had her semi-shiny clip that held her bun together, of course, but compared to everyone else's things, it wouldn't be worth the chase for the creatures.
As Emily began to dance, Aurélie smiled, pretending that she didn't feel paranoied every time the other girl even so much as looked her way. "Oh, it's alright. I'm actually a dancer, but I don't like showing off my skills on the dance floor."
As Aurélie moved simply to the beats of the song that was playing, one that she didn't recognize, she felt Emily's eyes on her and tried speaking again. It wasn't in her nature to let conversation lull, after all, and even though she felt like everyone in the world was about to come and get her at this exact moment, she would not let Emily stare at her awkwardly. "So, do you have any hobbies or interests?"

Somewhat surprised she not only allowed it but even looked comfortable. Not that he was complaining. As promised, he gently sat her down on the bench. Not taking even a second before deciding to accept her offer to sit down. Despite it not showing on his face, his gut was bubbling with excitement. Not at the fact she sprained her ankle, of course. But by how she so far kept proving time and time again that she wasn’t scared or unnerved of him. People like her do not come often. It wasn’t wrong for him to hope this would blossom into a friendship with a funny start. Yet a part of him still struggled with the idea of it. Concerned gnawed on him. What if the more they talked, the closer she was to realising the ominous aura that persistently followed him? Sara decided not to have his hopes high just yet. Content with just making sure she was alright first. Nodding along to the topic of conversation at hand: Hogwarts disasters.
“Hogwarts is…popular for that. It is nice to know you have been lucky”. He stated, not showing much distress at the memory. As if he was simply telling her what time it was. “ No one was hurt..much”, he then recalled at least 2 unconscious students but decided at the last minute not to bring it up. “ We’re all healthy now” he decided to add that last bit as assurance but wasn't entirely sure if it was effective. “ You are… muggle-born?” he asked, hoping to divert the conversation somewhere else that didn’t involve students almost drowning. “ You say you..know non-magic better” he gently pointed out, despite his gruff voice.
When she mentioned she thought she didn't expect to use first aid on her, he couldn’t help but let out what almost seemed to be a laugh. It was hard to tell if it was a laugh or a scoff. In truth, he felt an oddly compelled to laugh along with her, despite his reservations. Looking at the light purple bruise, however, died down what could have been a smile. “ Apologies… I .. I know healing magic but I am..” he looked down in shame with a hint of guilt, rubbing his gloved hands to give himself warmth. “ not..very good. With magic. I mean..”. He was unsure how to bring up just how bad his magic was. He wanted to assure her that if only he didn’t have such a hard time grasping a spell-like reparifors, she would be up and walking in a minute. But instead, he wasn’t even confident he’d get the incantation right.
Thankfully she brought up an important topic change. One he couldn’t believe had so easily slipped from his mind. “Em..malee..” he repeated slowly, making sure his tongue could pronounce it in the way she did. Frankly, it was difficult but not the hardest he wanted to remember. “ Oh. from. The..yellow club?” he vaguely recalled the house system Hogwarts has. Despite the years of coming back to this school, he hasn’t had the pleasure of knowing anyone from Hogwarts, apart from the lecturers he supposed. A twinge of a smile appeared on his face as she called him carrier crow.
“...Sara… Kohana Sara. You can call me Sara” he greeted, his gruff voice contradicting the gentleness he carried his tone with. “ I am ah. A 5th year. From Mahoukotoro” He felt it was unnecessary to bring up the colour of his robes. It still somewhat baffled him that reaction to robes wasn’t as integral as it was in Japan. “It is..nice to meet you, Emma Lee.”
While she refocused on bandaging herself, his eyes darted to the crowd of the ball. These balls were always somewhat chaotic by nature. Sara sort of leaned to tune it out. But the longer the ball went, it was impossible not to notice commotion. "... Im not sure if.. my mask makes it hard to see but..are those.. ah..tiny furry creatures..?" He said uncertainly, watching shadows of movement zip past attendees and snatching something.

EmmaLee nodded as the boy also commented on the Hogwarts chaos. He was right. As dangerous as Hogwarts seemed to be on a regular basis, not just during the balls, at least no one had died yet while she was here. She had heard of some close calls, but over all, everyone was healthy now. "You are right." She said with a small chuckle. "No matter what 'appens, everyone seems to turn out alright in the end. As for my blood status, both of my parents are magical, actually, though I grew up as a non-magique until I was eight and my parents still do a lot of dealing with non-magiques. My maman and I were the only magique people in the small town where I grew up, so we 'ad to 'ide our magic. My maman sold non-magique 'erbal remedies and was almost like the town's doctor where I grew up." She explained, holding up the arnica paste. "She made this paste for bruising and swelling. Anything that she couldn't do, the people 'ad to go into the greater city for. So I just, didn't grow up around a lot of magic." She finished with a nonchalant shrug.
As he apologized and explained that he wasn't very good with magic, EmmaLee placed a comforting hand on his arm. "That's alright." She said with a smile. "This will do. You 'ave been very 'elpful anyways. It really isn't that bad. It will probably be fine by the morning without magical intervention and it was due to my own clumsiness." She said with a small chuckle at her own expense.
If she had been watching where she was going, instead of looking around for Stephen, she would have noticed the rocks and wouldn't have collided with the boy in the first place. Interestingly enough, she was glad this had happened. Though, now that she was thinking about it, Stephen was probably growing upset at her lack of appearance by now, she was always excited to meet a new friend. She looked around for a moment to see if she could see him, but she was now at an even further disadvantage of the ball being quite full and now she was in a sitting position and even shorter than the group. Maybe it was a good idea to just rest here and let him find her. She was apparently atrocious at spotting him.
EmmaLee smiled brightly at the boy as his introduction brought her back to the conversation at hand and she giggled a little at his assessment of her house. It was nice to finally have something to call him. "Yes, the yellow one. It is nice to meet you as well, Sara-san." She said, bowing her head slightly. She knew from her time in Toyko and from her father's business dealings with people from Japan that it was polite to use honorifics. Though admittedly, the only ones she knew were "san", "sama", and "shachou" and only "san", or maybe "sama", she wasn't sure now, seemed to apply here. She also recognized Kohana as a Japanese name, so it seemed appropriate.
Well, now that she was fully flustered about the proper use of honorifics, she ducked her blushing head a little and busied herself with finishing the bandaging of her ankle, putting the arnica paste back into her first aid kit, and putting her shoe back on. She had just put her shod foot back onto the ground when Sara asked about furry animals and a scream echoed across the ball.
EmmaLee stood up abruptly, instinctively, and looked towards the scream just in time to see a niffler, of all things, leaping onto a girl with brown hair (Brookline Quinn), snatching her bracelet, and taking off. EmmaLee pulled the white wand out of the holster on her thigh and waved it. "Anathema Daphnis!" She shouted, pointing her wand at the running creature. Honestly, she might have used a better spell but it was the first one that came to mind that would fully stop the creature.
After her spell left her wand, the adrenaline she had used to stand in the first place buckled and took her ankle with it. Apparently she was more injured that she thought she was. She plopped unceremoniously to the ground with the smallest of winces as her ankle refused to hold her weight. She looked over to Sara with a frustrated little frown. "Well, apparently "walking it off" will not be 'appening 'ere, but we really should do something about the nifflers or they are going to take off with everyone's things."
EmmaLee looked around at the chaos. She could also see a niffler heading towards her friend Kaya Bennett and a tall boy she'd never seen before on the dance floor. EmmaLee raised an eyebrow and smirked curiously. A boy? She was pretty sure that Kaya said she did not have a date. Maybe they had met somewhere after coming in. That was wonderful. Anyway, focus. EmmaLee shot another spell towards the niffler going after Kaya, but it went very wide.
~I need to be taller and not on the ground.~ She thought, now grumpy that she didn't know any healing magic. Also, as per usual, there were no adults around to deal with the chaos. They usually rushed in after the chaos had already started. She looked over and up to Sara and had a wonderful idea. It was crazy and he probably would tell her that the last thing she needed to do in this kind of state was join the fray, but she was a duelist and a Hufflepuff and she really couldn't just sit here and do nothing when others, and especially her friends, were in danger right in front of her. She couldn't bring herself to run or sit helplessly on a bench.
"Um, Sara-san...." She twisted her fingers, loathing to ask for help. She could readily accept the offer of help, but still loathed to bother people and ask for it. Especially when it was an insane ask. "I, there's a niffler after my friend over there.... " She pushed up her mask and balanced it on to top of her forehead to look at him properly and to get the vision obscuring thing out of the way. Probably another reason her spell towards Kaya's niffler had gone wide. "Would you mind carrying me over there on your back so I 'ave a better aim? On your back would free you up to cast as well rather than 'elping me any other way."
Again, an insane ask, but her loyal and helpful nature would not allow her to not try. If he said no, she'd sit on the bench and cast from there. She'd be grumpy about it, but she would have no other choice. There was no way she was running or walking anywhere on her own now, but she'd do as much as she could, no matter how little it was.
