She liked her dress, however, she couldn't say she liked much her mask. Although she had to admit, she looked beautiful and somehow, if only a little, someone could say she looked a bit mysterious. Anyway this mask was better than nothing, and so with last preparation been made, she stood up and went to the place where today's ball was happening. As she was going, she thought that actually her mask was looking suitable for all her today's outfit. This was definitely enough to make her feel better.
As Linda approached entrance, she noticed that they were supposed to search for a key first. That was definitely not something she was looking for and, for a quick second, she thought about actually turning around and going somewhere else. But looking at the riddle once more, she found that the answer was pretty easy and there was already enough students searching for a key. So by now the riddle wasn't even that necessary.
As Linda decided to start searching for a key, she tried to look around to see if any of her friends were here already. Not that she planned to spend whole ball with them, but it would be nice to see them still. Most of her friends were nowhere to be seen yet, at least as far as she could see. However she noticed Kaitlyn and EmmaLee. Her besties weren't anywhere among these costumed and masked students.
Returning her gaze to bushes, she started to search for a key again, hoping it won't take too long to find it. Linda hoped she'd have someone to share this evening with. Otherwise all this searching would be just like a wasting of the time she could spend somewhere else, drawing or playing guitar.
Linda caught herself lost in her thoughts for a while, which caused her to stop searching. So, after some seconds else, she finally gave her full attention to searching.

Magical Masquerade: The entrance
"Why is this never easy?" Ying muttered in annoyance as she arrived to the Quidditch Training Pitch and read the clue that was given for them to search the key to be able to enter the ball. "Difficult to enter...and hard to leave it alive. How amazing." She continued to grumble in a barely audible voice as her dark brown eyes started to search the nearby bushes.Open to Interactions
A couple of firsts years passed her in a rush, forcing her to dodge. Ying gave them a threatening look, which, thanks to her mask, went unnoticed. But soon, her bitterness gave way to a very different feeling. Her eyes lit up and a wide smile spread across her face as soon as she saw Beatrice! And... Oh Merlin... and Colin...what was Colin doing with Bea? "Okay Ying, breathe, don't act like an idiot." She thought, as her heart stupidly missed a bit as her eyes found the Slytherin boy. That foolish heart of hers would be her down fall for sure!
With quick footsteps, she walked confidently towards her best friend and...Colin. When she was close enough, she realized someone else was also there talking with them. For his attire she could assume he was from Mahoutokoro, although it was not a certainty since she could be assumed as attending the same wizarding school and that guess would fail dismally. "Hi there!" She called to the group in a cheerful greeting, waving her hand in a quick gesture. "Bea, you look beautiful!" She praised when she saw the beautiful pink dress her friend was elegantly dressed in. Ying looked then at Colin and got lost for words. She couldn't give him the same compliment right? It would be awkward right? Her words fell in a weird fading sound, "aaa...You...also look nice Colin." She finished, clearing her throat and feeling her ears and face turning warm and pink like the color of the flowers in her dress, "Blessed mask." She thought, relieved and grateful to have a perfect excuse to hide her face, whoever thought of wearing masks was a genius!
Her attention then diverted quickly to the other boy, trying to not see Colin's reaction to her comment, "Love your mask, I have a similar one." She said in a friendly manner, "Fang Hui-Ying," She introduced her self giving him a small, quick bow, "Do I know you?" She finished asking, narrowing her eyes at him, not being able to see his face behind his Kitsune mask. She had played Quidditch against Mahoutokoro last summer and wondered if he was one of them. It has been quite an experience!

There's definitely way too much of us here searching for keys. Kaya giggled excitedly. Even this would never stop her from taking it as nice exciting adventure. Let's see if we could find them together quicker. She had no idea how long would it take, but she hoped that their clothes will still stay not dirty.
How have you been since our meeting? Kaya asked while getting ready to search for a key, but now with her friend. No matter how long or short this was going to take, they could use this time for a chat as well. Pausing just for a second, she could notice couple of her friends and some from Ilvermorny, but still no way to see her besie. Well, she might as well just try later during the ball or even after ball to know how it went.
She returned her attention to the bush, doing her best to find something supposedly small in all these bushes and flowers. Also trying so hard to keep her dress and hands without dirt. If she could keep it this way, she had a chance to arrive at the ball still nice enough like when she went out of the room in their cabin.

Another Hogwarts event, another gathering of people that Quentin didn't know. There was an inkling of a thought in the French boy's head: why did he keep going to the Hogwarts events when his friends chose to stay at home? But the thought never quite took root and here he was. They had loaded up the Beauxbatons students to come to Britain for a masked ball. He hoped for a little more excitement than a simple dance.
And as he arrived, his desires were answered. The ball wasn't even open, and they had to find the key to get in. It wasn't a physical task, Quentin's forte wasn't answering puzzles, but it was something to collaborate with others on. He read the clue. Something, something, something, flowers. Well, that was too obvious. The clue said it was easy, meaning it wouldn't be easy. He looked around. Queasy, car, queasy car. It was a real head-scratcher. It didn't help that he couldn't identify flowers.
Over to one side of the bushes, he heard something like the sound a goose would make. Hmmm, queasy, geesey, geese, goose. Yeah, that must be it. Other students had unraveled the difficult tongue twister, and he tried to peek around them, seeing if he could spot the key.
Straining his neck toward the yellow flowers, he stopped watching his feet and where he was walking—and he crashed right into a girl.
"Desolé! Pardon! Desolé! Sorry! Sorry!" Flustered he back away from her. Taking one look at her, he felt a sudden swoosh feeling in his stomach. What did that mean? He wasn't sure. He was suddenly aware that he had made a wrestling-themed mask and he was wearing it right now where she could see it—a thought that had never before occurred to him was now occurring to him. What if wrestling was lame? What if the colors were too much? What if this particular girl thought he was an idiot? He thought about ripping the mask off—but stopped himself, that would also be an embarrassing move. The night was a goner; he should head back to France now.
He gave another quick "Desolé!" and tried to act like he searching the purple flowers next to the noisy ones all along. Maybe she would forget it happened. Maybe he would become very tiny and disappear.

The Quidditch Training Pitch was, for lack of a better word, magical Siobhan was in complete awe at the way the Ball Commitee had managed to decorate for the Spring Ball. She couldn't help but find herself spinning around as she walked trying to take everything in. Her already massive owl eyes where taking everything in with the wonder and amazement of someone who had never seen such vivid colors. Despite the loud colors and lights, there was still the calming presence of the night sky. It wrapped up the entire event in a warm spring kiss sprinkled with the views of the stars taking a moment to seemingly bless the occasion with their twinling forms. She marveled in the cozy blue of the warm night sky, which was out of character for the Highlands even though summer was right around the corner. She wondered if there had been a modified warming charm placed upon the entrance and around the vicinity in order to allow everyone the freedom to forgo jackets, shawls and cumbersome extra garments. They should be allowed to enjoy the festivities without the fear that their extremities would suffer the plight of a freezing spring even though Punxatawney Phil had in fact seen his shadow, predicting an early spring.
'Fitting' She thought to herself as she picked up the train of her ballgown and began to wander around the event. Her ballgown wasn't fancy like the ones many of her peers wore and definetly wasn't designer in anyway. The entire outfit had been c0nstructed by her talented mother, from repurposed and thrifted window curtains. Siobhan loathed asking her family for expensive items. Even though she was on the younger side of her siblings, she was keenly aware of her family's financial situation. She knew there wouldn't be a fancy extravagent dress in the cards for her, but out of childhood had simply written to her mother asking if there was any possibility of recieving one of her sister's old dresses just to have something to dress up in. But her mother and by extension her older sister had gone above and beyond to construct this beautiful garment of navy blue and green with gold accents adorned across the bodice and skirt itself. Her mother explained in the letter it was inspired by the Kelpies that she had learned likely lived in the Lough near Killarney. It was beautifully crafted and Siobhan had eagerly written back to her mother and sister with the happiest of gratitudes.
She felt like a princess in her gown even though she knew nearly everyone was dressed in an attempt to mimic royalty tonight. It didn't matter, she was happy. As she approached the entrance doors to the ball, she noticed that the students were all gathered around a sign or digging around within the garden area. She approached the sign, jumping slightly to be able to see over the sea of students. With every jump she saw a new word and strung together a sentence consisting of "Toot-Toot" and "flower." A quick glance to the grounds around the entrance, infuriated by the digging of the rabid armadilllo like students Siobhan discerned that the "toot-tooting" flowers were likely to be the Honking Daffodils who were absolutely livid that their habitat was being encroached upon by fancy dressed up students.
Siobhan wiggled herway into the gardening area and started to slowly sift through the dirt taking care to not disrupt the flowers too much. Unfortunately she knocked into one by accident and it honked loudly in her face, causing her to shut her eyes and lose place of where she was digging. It unfortunatley caused her to lose her place around the bush and forced her to move to a new spot to continue searching. She hiked up her skirt like the proper princesses she'd read fairytales about despite how dirty it had already gotten and moved to a new area to search.

April 13, 2024 - Masquerade Ball
Wishes really do come true. Ever since AngelFyre learned that Hogwarts had Balls, and themed ones at that, it had been her not so secret wish that one of them would be a Masquerade Ball before she left these haunted hallowed halls. She had had zero inclination to attend the first Fall Ball during her first year here, and she did not regret it a bit. It had been another opportunity, apparently, as almost all of them had been, to cull the herd by putting Darwin's theory to the test. As far as she knew, the only Ball since she had been here that had proven to be rather "normal" had been her first one. That one was magical, in so many ways, and would never be topped, she was certain of it, but it was fun to think that a Masquerade held some wonderful possibilities.
Her makeup was set and her hair was attractively left to hang loose as Simon liked it best, but it was volumized with quite a bit of long, soft, wavy curls. It always astonished her how much prettier she felt on these special occasions. She knew Simon loved the way she looked whether she was her casual self or her mother's long awaited porcelain doll version of herself.
Casual self was fine. She was always up for running, adventuring, climbing, dancing because the mood struck her,and a million more things she could list if she thought about it, but casual self's activities lent themselves so beautifully to the joys of "tomboyishness". Porcelain doll self was another matter altogether. Her wild child self could be self contained, and had been more and more lately, to her great surprise. She was hating less and less the idea of make up and not resenting the time it took to put the effort in to looking "more" of the girlier self she had ever thought she could or would be. Simon did not seem to mind the extra effort either, and she smile blushed as she remembered their marathon snogging session after the Valentine's FoxTrot dancing lessons.
Sigh
She walked to the end of her bed and stepped into her dress. She had done an awful lot of makeover work on this particular dress. She was not certain what her mother was thinking when she sent it, but AngelFyre wanted to cry when it arrived. It was in her favorite color, but that had been the ONLY thing it had going for it. All she could imagine was that her mother was still so wrapped up in grieving her own mother's loss that she truly was unaware what a horror show of a dress she had sent. It honestly looked like a dress for a green sea witch of some sort in a play. It would have fit in perfectly at the Dark Faerie Tale Ball a year and a half ago. Pounds and pounds of hideous gold brocade was removed. Bizarre tufts of bejeweled, dark green tulle was excised from the sleeves and shoulders, leaving lovely 3/4, simple tulle sleeve that had a beautiful OMBRÉ effect taking place from the shoulders down. The bajillion buttons in the back had been removed and replaced with a zipper because that she could get into by herself. The buttons? Not so much. If she had asked anyone to help her with those they would have hexed her.
It was also Southern Belle hoop-skirt poofy. AngelFyre was not a fan of "poofy" skirts. She liked being next to her boy too much to be thwarted by wide skirts and the mechanics beneath them that kept them apart. That had been the unwelcome struggle with her first Ball dress. It was actually quite beautiful, but no. Never again. And once again, AngelFyre reminded herself that a distressed mother had sent the hideous headdress that went with it. The dress actually had a headdress! That had to make it an official costume, right? A headdress AND a mask was just too much busy-ness for one tomboy to deal with. As she looked at the dress now, she was pretty proud of it and the alterations she had made.
The best part about all of it was that she had removed pounds of hoop skirt material and had refashioned it to be more user... witch user... friendly in case the evening took a turn for the worse. IT was absolutely expected that it would at this point. Sadly, this was not their first rodeo, so that being the case, she opened up the front of the dress and actually made the skirt removable if need be. She was wearing her tan riding britches and boots for comfort. No one was going to see her shoes anyway, and she was, right now, almost as tall as her boy. No need for the heels.
After she slipped the dress on, and got it zipped up, she momentarily thought something must have gotten twisted while putting it on because the bodice felt very tight. She had definitely not gained any weight, and as she struggled to reach behind to see where the problem lay, she got her first good look at herself and let her hand fall to her side. The "problem" was not twisted fabric. The "problem" was all her. And she had gained weight as a matter of fact, but not in her waist.
She just stood there and looked at herself, feverishly trying to think what could be done here. It was borderline indecent to wear it like it was. I mean, she was not a prude, but she was just shy of 14 years. She looked around and still had some extra trim that had been removed from the dress right out of the gate. It did nothing to help her with the feeling like she risked exposure at any moment, but it did at least mollify her sense of decency.
She had been wearing so many loose sweaters and hoodies over the winter, she honestly had just not noticed. She wondered if Simon had? He looked at her more than she ever did. If he had not noticed, he was in for one heck of a surprise tonight, and she chuckled nervously. Then she prayed there would be NO wardrobe malfunction.
Grabbing her thigh holster and her wand, she had everything she intended to carry, which was exactly nothing. More intrigued than scared, she took one last look at herself, approving overall of the reflection before her, and headed downstairs to meet the most handsome Ball date any girl could have. Lucky for her she was any girl.

Fifteen minutes later, after delicately wiping the drool from the corner of her mouth at the sight of her hunky Hufflepuff in his masquerade attire, they were both walking up to a locked door at the Quidditch Training Pitch and a school full of students searching for chocolates a key in honking daffodils. "Tell you what, handsome. How about you look for the key(s) to get us in and I will look for the choco- and I will help you," she quickly corrected. Then she stopped to look at how many flowers, even beyond the honking daffodils, there were around them. Maybe some of them were here because the wind caught them and they rooted here after she and Simon had planted so many types last year for her birthday. That thought really made her happy in that moment.
"Simon," she whispered to him. "Look at all of the beautiful flowers. Spring is really busting out all over. Let us hope that your girl does not do the same," and she softly laughed before leaning over to kiss his cheek.

I bent down and started digging around in the bushes trying my best to find a Honking Daffodil. I'm not the best at Herbology but I'm confident the answer to the riddle is a Honking Daffodil. I kept my eyes out for a glint of gold in the bushes. During my search, more and more students had begin to show up and join the search for the key to everything. By everything I mean the key that can help us enter the, hopefully, fun ball.
"Hello. My name is Victoria. Victoria Lena Jones. This is my mouse Vick. Isn't it a very strange way of entering the ball. But fun." a voice said from behind. The student that spoke had white hair and freckles. On her shoulder sat a rat. That was new. I'd never seen anyone have a rat as a pet before. I've never thought about getting a pet before. Maybe this summer I'll get an owl. An owl will be useful for delivering letters and stuff. I liked the entrance to the fall ball more. There was no riddle or dark mazes. It was pretty straight forward.
"Nice to meet you Victoria. My name's Alejandro Garcia. I shrugged, "I think I prefer a more straight forward way of entering but yes, it's still kind of fun. Is this your first ball here at Hogwarts?" I asked.WC: 229/200 Tags: @Victoria Lena Jones

Magical Masquerade: The entrance

Post tracker: 1 || 2 || 3 || they left early to go here
Simon had stood in the Common Room and saw many of the other badgers come down from the dormitories and head out, ready to embark for the ball. He wasn't early, nor was his girlfriend AngelFyre McCubbin late, but the first and second year students were eager to join up with their newly found dates or meet up with their friends and fuss over their formal attire. At the previous ball, Simon had worn a brown suit that was rather dull and muggle-like, so for the Spring Ball, especially it being a masquerade theme, he sprung (pun intended) for something a little more of the wizarding world that he was officially part of.
He thought he looked quite good - at least until AngelFyre had arrived. Her hair fell over her shoulders in ringlets of gold and while the mask she wore covered most of her beautiful face, her dazzling blue eyes still shined through. He was at a bit of a loss for words, but smiled and extended out his arm to her to take so he could lead her in a gentlemanly manner out to the Quidditch Training Pitch.
Along the way, he saw more students who were also on their way to the same destination and while everyone looked amazing, none looked more so than his date.
At the entrance, they were granted a temporary stall, a riddle to solve and a key to find. He began looking through the flowers when AngelFyre whispered "Simon. Look at all of the beautiful flowers. Spring is really busting out all over. Let us hope that your girl does not do the same." She leaned over and gave him a soft kiss and by the time she had pulled back, she'd see that he was blushing slightly. "You look absolutely incredible, AngelFyre. Absolutely incredible. Trust me. And I'm sure you're secure in there or you wouldn't have left your badger den otherwise but we'll get you inside and we'll dance, and I'll be sure to keep a close eye on the situation," he grinned even wider. He loved his girl very much, he respected her immensely, but he also was a fifteen year old boy.

Malin hadn't been expecting to go to the ball until River had asked her. She spent most of the afternoon cutting up and sewing one of her dresses, chasing down a bird that had flown onto Hogwarts grounds, and gluing feathers from said bird onto an empty mask one of her friends had lent her. In the scarce hours leading up to the masquerade, she had been twisting her hair into a half-up-half-down style and putting the finishing touches on her mask.
She had decided to go as a swan, graceful and elegant. Her white dress started with thin straps melding into a sweetheart neckline, then it turned into a corset-type bodice before flowing out in layers to her shins. Where the dress ended, white sneakers began at her ankles. She had tried to find something nicer than worn-down sneakers, but she had failed spectacularly and somehow ended up with a simple but pretty necklace instead, which she wore.
She made her way to the Quidditch Training Pitch, where the masquerade was said to be. She spent a long few minutes simply trying to get directions to the ball, but once she had gotten her directions, she began making her way down to the pitch.
She saw several students already there, dressed all pretty in their finery and...searching bushes?
Malin was taken aback by the sight. Here were the students dressed in their ballgowns and suits...
And digging through the shrubbery.
She turned and read the cause of the student's impromptu gardening trip.
"This clue is very easy,
Though the flowers might make you quite queasy.
Toot-toot goes the car,
And so does this flower."
A toot-tooting flower?
So that was why the students were searching through bushes and such.
Malin shrugged, any dignity she had left disappearing as she joined in the shrubbery-searching.
Hopefully, she could get in and find River.
