Another year, another sport.

This was Dori's third sport. This meant they had tried- all of them. And so far they were mediocre at every single one of them. So at this point, clutching their Silver Arrow in their hands that they had freshly polished and maintained right before the race... they questioned why they were doing this. At least they knew people on the team, but that meant a possibility of judgement and chastisement post-race if they did awful.

They mounted their broom with a grimace, teeth clenched hard enough that they might need to see a dentist about it at some point. And when it was time- they launched into the sky.

Who knew that this would be the first last year of Bloom's Broom Racing career at Hogwarts? It was surreal to think that there would not be another match against Hufflepuff again after this one. All the more reason to win, she thought as she was mounting her gigantic tree of a broom. Bloom did not know what lied ahead of her, but she did know who was going to be with her every step of the way. But first thing was first: win against Serena. The two have had some history together-- starting out as good friends and breaking apart because of a boy. Bloom did try to meet halfway over the summer with an apology, but who knows if it spoke to Serena or not. Perhaps this last game together may help solidify civility between each other.

She had no idea how to behave around her still. They weren't really friends but they also weren't enemies. They were polite for the sake of being polite and it just made her feel a bit awkward and she did not really want to have an awkward conversation right now. She had to focus. The first race of the year was always an exciting one. Ari would always find the air full of buzzing tension and anticipation on this day more than on other race days, but the distant sound of spectators would never fail to be present and noticeable. That would never change. Eager classmates coming to see him fly on a broom and hit trees. Peak entertainment.

The lingering smell of petrichor was refreshing, hanging over the course with the fog after the rain from earlier that seemed would never end. He loved that smell. He wasn't a fan of the dampness of the ground,
though. Not that it would matter unless he fell. He was wearing combat boots as usual, so there were virtually no chances of his socks getting wet. He'd also grown more over the summer, looking even more like a tall stick than last year. These were things he couldn't help, but maybe they'd somehow help him out today.

"Absolutely! Quite excited to beat Hufflepuff," Ari replied to Clair. The last race against Hufflepuff was definitely one for the books. Ari and Simon were neck and neck until the end where Simon beat him by a nose. He'd do his best to not let that happen again.

His eyes wandered over to Simon as the memory came back. He didn't see him as an enemy, but this was friendly competition and things like that stick with you. He would still play fair and square, though. This wasn't worth doing anything stupid.

"Let's do good today, guys!" He gave everyone a fist bump and his usual smile, then mounted his broom, ready to fly.
