It appeared most of the players had forgotten the point of the game was to focus on the stones and not each other, as only a handful of players had decided to devote their full attentions to the game at hand. One in particular earned a sour look from the moondaughter as she cast Meiyu's wand out of the terrain.

Hand stilling, Elena smiled as she perfectly succeeded in both of her pulls, ending twice in a blue zone — though Lyanna's stone had apparently decided to kamikaze everyone, and ended up bumping hers along with others in her fall. Her second stone managed to bump Colin's out of the way, and she looked up, pleased.

A frown creased her brows when she saw Colin inch closer to the brunette, mouth opened in a warning but the fourth year didn't even have the time to reach Lya than already he was bodied out of the stage by Della. Elena chuckled, silently cheering the foul.

Now, the next round was about to start, and they were nowhere near the score goal. Focus.

In her first ever summoner's court match, Della depulsoed a stone right into the blue zone. It was exhilarating! Maybe sports on the ground could be fun after all.

That was until Della's own teammate. knocked. her. stone. off. the. platform. Her exhilaration melted into white-hot rage. The Gryffindor fifth-year glared at the second-year Hufflepuff, but before she could give Lyanna a stern talking to about watching her where she pushe her stones—Della noticed an odd movement from the opposite team's Colin McCoire. He wasn't trying to shove Lyanna off the stage, was he?

Greta was slithering in the tall grass nearby, hidden from sight. She seemed to notice the same thing, and with a small whisper only Della could hear, said, "I think the Slytherin boy is off balance. Wobbly knees. I'd strike."

And so Della did. She channeled that rage into a healthy offensive strike at the other team. She barrelled into Colin, and he was off the platform. The feeling of exhilaration was back. Unfortunately, she wasn't that graceful because Aly saw her move and admonished her. Della answered back sheepishly, "Sorry! That move's legal in broom racing! I forgot!" and with a pointed look at Colin, "I'll gladly take my foul."

With a glance over at the other team, Kaitlyn knew that she needed to do something to give her team an edge. She focused her sight on a certain Gryffindor prefect … and was thankfully successful at taking Meiyu’s wand. A smile crossed her lips, hoping she wouldn’t eventually regret her choice. After all, who knew just how long this game was to take? She certainly had no idea!

Kaitlyn tilted her head to the side, when Lyanna jumped in front of her … in an attempt to block her sight. After all, not being able to see would be rather unfortunate when trying to summon a stone. But, it seemed like Aly was paying close attention and gave Lyanna a time out for a turn.

Thus, Kait was able to summon a stone … and sadly didn’t get far. Green zone. While the other stones on the field were knocked around … hers stayed put. 40 wasn’t exactly fantastic … but it gave her team something. The round ended with a score of 50 to 40. Not great, but there was still time left. She had to think about what she wanted to do next.

To no one's surprise, or at least not to the young Slytherin girl who still claimed to have no idea what she was even doing at the match, Lottie blanked for the first full round. She watched the match play on with dull interest, and found herself unmoved even as her turn arrived. When she finally snapped back into motion, her time was long gone and her teammates were likely passing silent judgement at her hiccup.

She inhaled slowly and attempted to regain her composure. It was just like Quidditch. Only without the brooms, nor the hoops, nor the safety net of her position. Somewhat like Quidditch.

"You've got to be joking."

It was as if the world was intent on playing with him like a fiddle. Terrible enough was the agreed strategy of the first round, which had "ingest this suspicious, ridiculously complicated-to-make potion" in it. It took Erast 2 days of staring at the vial to come to terms with just the idea of such a horrifying ordeal. Now, after overcoming his mental hurdle, a physical one came: the vial wasn't there at all.

"Haha. Yes. I must've left it in my closet." Erast could only smile sweetly at the senior Ravenclaw student – Aly Salinger, he believed her name was – when she addressed him.

The next series of events could have very well proved that they were all part of a comedy play.

In just 1 blink, Colin McCoire was sent skidding off by an older frightening Gryffindor girl. Then, wands went flying and spells failed. Then, the final kicker: His stone. It was playing with him.

The Levitation Charm had never come so easily before. That was the first sign of disaster. Erast was foolishly certain that his stone would make it to, at the bare minimum, the lowest point range. The stone elegantly levitated itself, then, in one flick of his wrist– THUNK! It landed right back on the starting line.

Erast's lower eyelid twitched. "Haha, oh wow."

After her playful banter with her friends, the young Gryffindor soon locked in and focused on the match in this new sport. Running through the pre-discussed strategies in her brain, she knew she had a disadvantage against the senior years. She glanced over the other team, which had a bit more upper-year students. But hey, they had Colin on the team too!

It was her turn to come up. The heat was distracting. She had forgotten to tie her hair up. The stray hair covered her eyes a little. Annoyed, she tugged the chestnut brown behind her ear. Nervously, Rosaline clutched her wand tightly as she opened her mouth to enunciate the newly learnt spell, “Finite Incantatem.” A spark appeared at the tip of her wand. Yet, it seemed to be in the wrong direction, which was toward, herself. Good. Um, excellent. Luckily enough, it was just a little pushback. Her brows furrowed. It wasn’t exactly what she had expected.

Then, another turn came. This time Rosaline was trying to cast Wingardium Leviosa. It shouldn’t be hard to succeed. But her unlucky streak continued. Her wand just lightly buzzed and did nothing. She lifted the red oak in front of her eyes and stared at it. What was wrong with it? Dumbfounded, Rosaline flicked it up and down, as if she wanted to wake it up.

As she went back to her waiting position, Rosaline scanned the room, and she was again bewildered. When was Colin out of the game? She thought the match was going to be a fun, peaceful game. Apparently, it was not quite so.

Silas watched what was happening, but he honestly had no clue what was going on. This didn’t seem like any sport he was used to — maybe closest to yard games if anything — and it seemed his fellow second-string was equally as confused, starting sentences multiple times but not finishing any of them. “Any ideas?” “No clue, mate, I’m lost.” He frowned slightly as he tried to make sense of the sight in front of him. “Seems it can change so quickly, ‘ow’d we go from a ‘undred points to zero and then back to fifty? And spells’re bein’ cas’ at each other, too?” He shrugged as he watched Colin be sent flying into the grass, mild amusement showing on the first year’s face.

'I'll take you up on that offer later on,' she answered one of the girls (@Rosaline Everhart) with a grin, noting the nod coming from the one sitting besides her. Maybe they could sneak into the nearby village later today.

'What wouldn't I give to jump into the Great Lake right now,' she continued with her laments, melting into the hot wood, 'hypothetically, of course. I wouldn't actually do that, responsible prefect and all,' she rolled her wrist, smiling at the slytherin fulfilling the same role as her, not giving enough energy into her lame cover-up.

Lounging, she watched the first round of their game. Her lack of focus at the beginning meant she was left piecing together the rules, actions and whatnot as they played.

'- not face plant off of the stage? Yeah, that could be nice,' she finished the red-head's strategy for her before adressing their fallen teammate (@Colin McCoire), 'you good, mate?'

Soon after that, her bench warmer buddy was called into the game. Sighing, Sabrina took off her cap, 'guess our time together is up,' she offered a handshake followed with a fist bump, a move they've done once already, before a now long gone game, 'you can do it, just focus on your spell work and keep quick on your feet,' she added a generic but hopefully true advice.

Colin eagerly awaited his turn as the other kids summoned their stones and knocked other stones around and off the court. The score changed so quickly! This wasn't anything like either racing or quidditch. Racing had no scores at all, and quidditch scores only added high and higher. He reckoned Aly must have practiced her mental arithmetic for this because the numbers just flowed out of her brain like a river!

Colin was up next. He decided to take a quick peek over towards Aly. She was busy flicking the stones of her mental abacus when he made his move. And didn't Lyanna have it coming even just a little bit? Nothing that a well timed shoulder shove wouldn't fix! Just make it look like a flowery preparation to cast! As he shoved his shoulder towards the girl, his foot slid a bit and he missed! Colin narrowed his eyes. Lyanna had some nerve turning to leave her spot just as she should have taken a tumble to the grass below!

"Accio stone!" Colin cast on his designated stone out on the court. He wiggled excitedly as his stone crept forward, then gained momentum! "WOOOOO!" he cried as the stone picked up speed only to smack right into Lyanna's stone. "Och! Sorry Lya!" Aly called out that the Ringmasters were now down to zero and the Exterminators were up to ninety! "YASSSS!"

"WHAAAA---??" But as quickly as the Exterminators were up, Elena summoned her stone sideways into Colin's, sending his off into the grass below. Aly set all the knocked off stones back to the starting line and announced the round score as 50-40 in favour of the Ringmasters!

"Right! Better luck next round, ExterminaAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!"

WHAT!? Colin felt his body being launched right off the edge of the stage! Not even a graceful nudge! Just a flat out body check! Someone on Ringmasters had actually blatched him! Racing instinct took over as he relaxed and turned to take the inevitable hit. His eyes caught fellow racer, Della Barfield gloating over his downfall.

"Barfield!" he called up from the grass. Talk about beautiful when angry! Clearly she enjoyed the moment immensely! Grr! Not that Colin himself hadn't just tried the same exact move! Still, it did sting a bit when his own attempt failed and Della's was strikingly successful.

"Sorry! That move's legal in broom racing! I forgot!" she purred. Colin rolled his eyes.

"Forgot," he spat. "Ye didn't forget, lass." He had to admit it though: "That was the smart move."

Her look of victory at Colin said everything to him. "I'll gladly take my foul."

Colin whuffed softly as the cute Gryffindor turned back to the game. He tucked Naur-an-Edraith back into his sheath and gracefully hauled himself back up onto the stage. The Aly lit into him: "McCoire! I thought I was very clear about this. If you leave the stage without my express permission, you're out for the rest of the match. I thought you wanted to play."

Colin's jaw dropped as the seventh year turned her ire towards Della. "I---" Colin couldn't get even a single word in edgewise! He just shook his head like a dog. Well, that was Summoner's Court for you! Riding high as the Moon one minute and falling into the black hole the next! Well, at least he could cheer on the Exterminators and take the opportunity to learn more about the game. Hopefully there would be another test match some time!

Second-String Actions

Sabrina, left alone on the bench, seemed to be lost in a daydream; either way, she wasn't paying attention to the match enough to even officially observe it, let alone try to cast anything. On the other end, Silas and Max continued their furious whispering, unfortunately to no avail yet again. How could one strategise properly in a game that changed so quickly?

Player-Based Defensive Actions

Having been disarmed last round, Meiyu leapt across the stage to grab her wand before it could roll off the stage. Aly clapped her hands in the younger Gryffindor's direction. "And Xiang's regained her wand! What athleticism. Quick, get back in line before you miss your summoning turn!"

Player-Based Attack Actions/Debuff Fouls

Once again it was a trio of young ladies turning on each other (well, sort of). All three whipped out their wands at the same time, some intending to cast legal spells and... others, not so much. Alyss aimed at Kaitlyn, but her wand just made some useless sparks rather than disarming her Housemate as she had hoped; Kaitlyn, on the other hand, managed to throw a very well-cast Obscuro at Meiyu, the second time in two rounds that she had targeted that specific rival. Unfortunately for the Slytherin, Aly's keen eyes were all too used to watching for illegal fouls. "Connor! I saw that. You can pull your stone, but immediately after, you're going to come down here to me and we'll have a chat about remembering which spells you're allowed to cast."

The last girl to cast, though these all happened essentially around the same time, was Rosaline, whose sneaky Finite Incantatem would make sure Elena was unable to cast the next time she tried to lift a wand...

Summoning Stones

There wasn't much else action-wise until it came time to actually, you know, summon in this Summoner's Court match. Erast, perhaps distracted by his plans for what he'd do when Aly's back was turned, again failed to pull his stone off the starting line; however, second-string Cecelia proved herself immediately useful off the bench with a well-cast Wingardium Leviosa that pulled her first stone into the green section. Meanwhile, Charlotte was still zoned out of a sort, looking perhaps as if she was unsure exactly what spell to cast. Feeling quite bad for the younger girl, Aly called out to her, "You only have a few options for summoning! You'll think of something, I know it."

A string of Depulsos came to pass, each one successful - first Meiyu into the blue despite her blindfold, which was honestly quite impressive, and then Kaitlyn immediately along to knock Meiyu right out of it. If the two girls hadn't started hating each other before, Aly had a feeling that there would certainly be a grudge formed after this match! And a third Depulso from Elena didn't seem to work, nor did an attempted Accio from Alyss, but Elena's second attempt and the fourth Depulso of the round did a lovely job of pulling her last stone into blue as well, where it just narrowly dodged knocking Kaitlyn off the stage. Aly sucked in a gasp. "Oh! That was so close!"

The last two girls had unsatisfying endings to the round. Rosaline's attempt at Wingardium Leviosa saw her stone float for a second and then plop back down to the ground, whereas Cecelia's second attempt didn't even budge her rock. Aly gave them a sympathetic smile as she moved to reset the stones for the next round. "Chins up, everyone! This is working really well! Failure is part of the process."

KOB Fouls

Aly could sense it in the air now, having caught a Shove in the first round. There was a certain shiftiness to someone who was thinking of how best to shove someone off a stage - and it didn't help their case that they had only tried (and failed, in this case) to summon one of their two allotted stones. The seventh-year referee turned eagle eyes on Erast, who, sure enough, made a running attempt at a blindfolded Meiyu less than thirty seconds later. Unfortunately, a loose board meant he tripped and missed her entirely, despite the fact that she couldn't even see him at the moment.

Aly blew her whistle, her brows furrowing in anger. What was this, the fourth foul so far? And so quickly into a match? "Yan! What part of a fair, legal match didn't you understand? And to a blinded girl, too! You can come down here and think about your actions for a while. As for the rest of you, I want this cheating fever to stop, immediately!"

At least one of the two she'd caught last round seemed sorrowful. Aly pointed to Della. "Barfield, you can take the stage again. But as for you," turning to Lyanna, "I think you could stand to stay down here with me a little longer and really think about your actions some more..." Thirty percent of active players in time-out wasn't that bad, was it?

Outcome

• Kaitlyn's stone is in blue and Cece's stone is in green for 90 points to the Exterminators
• Meiyu got her wand back, was blindfolded by Kaitlyn, and narrowly dodged a shove from Erast
• Erast and Kaitlyn are both on time-out next round due to being caught cheating against Meiyu
• Rosaline's Finite Incantatem was successful against Elena, causing her first stone summon to auto-fail
• Alyss failed to disarm Kaitlyn
• Della patiently waited out her time-out; Lyanna is being kept for an additional round because she wasn't paying attention to Aly's lectures about not cheating (aka didn't post)
• Silas and Max are really bad at strategy (failed again)
