And just like that, her luck wasn't holding up. The race had been going alright for her before. She'd made headway into the scrum of the fliers, and the middle of the trees. Unfortunately she hadn't been so lucky with the stupid pieces of wood themselves. She'd hit not one, not two, but three of trees as she passed. She could feel harsh scratches across her arms and even her face, the blood running down her cheeks like red tears. That wasn't all. Apparently her maneuvers hadn't been elegant enough, and a swooping evil just had to take a bite. She thanked the gods as she kept flying that it was a shallow wound, enough that she'd be able to continue flying. But what had been in that bite? She shook her head as she felt dizzy. She willed that it would clear soon so she could continue with a clear head. She wouldn't let Ravenclaw down. Surely they would come out on top. She trusted her team to get there.

It felt so freeing, to finally just fly. Alyss leaned down into her broom, giving into the need for speed. She went fast. It got hot while flying, but not unbearably so. Alyss made it through, and kept flying. Then, the track got narrow, and with her speed, she just couldn’t keep from hitting the side. It hurt, but not enough to stop her. Alyss was on a mission, and she was so certain that nothing would stop her. Until, she hit two trees. Dear god, there were a lot of trees in this course. She was still determined, still felt unstoppable. Just…a little bit more painful.

She then took a moment, and glanced at the current progress on the race. Wyatt was still in the lead, the finish line reachable. He also looked rather rigid, a sign that he was under some sort of spell. Hopefully one that was beneficial. Kyra was right beside her, possibly in better condition than herself. Other than that, it was only the Ravenclaws in front of them. Alyss sighed. “We still have a long way to go, don’t we?”

The ravenclaw didn't dare to look behind her. She wasn't really sure what was happening anymore - everything hurt, everything was dizzying - she was rapidly losing more blood by the second and wasn't sure where her teammates were - after all, this was her very first race, and she wasn't quite sure what she was supposed to do other than reach the finish line first? Just blindly barrelling through all the obstacles, she hated to admit it. She was deathly scared. Of letting her team down. And getting severely injured. Nobody died in broom racing, right? That would be silly. They wouldn't let students die.

But hey, with the amount she was bleeding, it sure seemed like it. She wasn't even sure if she could win.

On the brighter side, the slytherin was only ahead by a little bit - if she just... flew faster? Maybe she could beat him. There was hope. She was holding up rather well - which is to say, she hadn't fallen flat on her face within two minutes like she'd expected.

Finally! Some action! Kaitlyn sped on her broom. She had to regain some semblance of a semi-decent racer. Or, maybe, the more accurate description would be a first-time racer who is totally not in over her head. No, of course not. Why would this third-year Slytherin ever be in over her head?

Faster, faster, Kaitlyn sped up. She flew through a heated region. It wasn’t particularly difficult to fly through, but she could definitely feel the heat! Sadly, however, she wouldn’t last too much longer. The faster she flew, the more she couldn’t compensate for the narrow passage. In her attempt to fly through it, she hit the wall. It was enough to feel an annoying pain, but not enough to knock her out, thankfully. Likely, it would leave a bruise tomorrow. Lovely.

After sustaining the minor damage, Kaitlyn watched where her teammates were. Most were in front of her, which was good.

Ari winced as fresh blood began to seep into his clothes from broken skin. While he was no stranger to injuries from flying, it never made the pain easier to deal with once it arrived. He was also no stranger to hitting trees in nearly every race, but bracing for impact was never a foolproof way to take away how jarring it was. He gritted his teeth as the wounds throbbed with each pulse, his senses rattled. Thus began the waiting game. When would the discomfort subside? It would take a minute, but he couldn't let this deter his mind from the goal ahead: winning.

Colin shook his head like a dog as he scrambled back onto his broom. It had been a rough start for the Basilisks, owing to the way the Ravenclowns sent almost all of them to the ground! But a couple well placed spells ensured that none who dared oppose House Slytherin would get away unbloodied! He didn't even howl in exultation!

As Colin zoomed along, well behind his team mates, he smirked. Not a little of that blood was his own doing! The smirk soon turned into a feral grimmace. The heat of the track enhanced the scent of fresh blood in the air. He couldn't tell which belonged to whom, but he reckoned that at least half the racers were leaking some precious fluid. The grimace reformed into a wicked smile. Nurse had better have some blood replenishing potion on hand, because she'd have quite a few in need of it soon!
