"That's the spirit," Dee replied cheerfully to Bea's proclamation of their impending victory. Her eyes swept over their team once more . Everyone seemed a bit nervous, especially the younger kids, but at least they were looking awake. Maybe the nervous energy would sharpen their reflexes. Dee rolled her shoulders once more, and once the signal sounded, she was off.
After the brutal success of their previous two races, it almost felt wrong to leave take off from the starting line without her wand drawn, without snatching brooms out from under their opponents and watching them rain down to the ground. Of course, they still rained. It just wasn't Dee's spell who made it happen. In Bea, another very capable former duellist with the ability to spread her spells had joined the team, and during their strategising sessions and trainings, they had decided it made more sense for her to take Dee's place on the offense, because Dee was the faster (and arguably more nimble) flier.
The thuds of bodies on the ground behind her in response to Bea's and Peri's twin Revulsion Jinxes was music to her ears, and she grinned as she sped after the Slytherin racers. In a maneuver both predictable and effective, the serpents had decided to give Wyatt an extra boost to put him in an early lead. No matter - it wouldn't last. It also gave her the perfect vantage point to watch Wyatt graze the walls of the narrow passageways near the beginning of the racing track, and then collide with four - hold on, no - five trees and fail to dodge a swooping evil that was nesting in one of them. She shook her head. "Hey, do you not want to try dodging those?" she called after him. Really, speed wasn't everything. She'd be embarrassed to reach the finish line looking like she'd just lost a boxing match with an Ent. Well - time for her to do better.

Korinna breathed a sigh of relief, teetering uneasily on her broom. She had evaded the heat.. and then got bonked, which had hurt quite a bit - but she was unscathed for the most part and somewhat ahead on the broom racing track compared to the others on her team. That was a win!! Good thing too, since she didn't feel confident in her spellcasting against those older snakes. At least she'd made it this far without getting sent to the hospital wing...!
The best course of action was probably to keep going and hope she didn't let her team down...

Pericles' wand was already aimed in the second it took to cross the starting line. He launched into an immediate offense, understanding that the first minute of a race could determine its outcome, working in tandem with Bea to leave snakes in their wake. The young warlock spliced a Revulsion Jinx with a murmured "Relashio," slackening Colin's and Kaitlyn's grips to send them tumbling from their brooms. It was too early to celebrate his success and obstacles were incoming. As much as Pericles hated heat, his heightened adrenaline dulled the discomfort. Tunnels were another bane of his: gangling limbs led to knocked knees and bruised elbows in past races. When the narrow opening loomed into view, the bird grimaced, yet braced as he had in practice. Pear stretched out along the length of his broom like a cat in the midday sun. He spiraled as a loosed arrow does, building inertia and gyroscopic stability, shooting clean through the tunnel before sliding back in the saddle. He strained to hear Della's play-by-play so as to keep track of their opponents. It sounded as though Slytherin was in the lead, but with Dee ahead and himself catching up, he was confident the score wouldn't stay that way.┗ ┛

The race had only just begun. Kaitlyn had been on her broom, completely optimistic about the race. Ok, find, she was very nervous, but she figured that she’d fly … somewhere on the track. Not end up knocked off the broom and tumbling to the ground! She winced at the pain and gently stretched her muscles to try to shake off the pain. She squinted up at the other players, hoping that she wasn’t missing too much from being on the ground … and slightly thankful that it wasn’t just her who was knocked off.

In an unfortunate happenstance, Ari's mind was not all there. Perhaps it was the warmth around him that brought him peace or the endless possibilities of the race drifting through his mind, but he completely missed the signal for the race to start. He snapped back to reality in the wake of falling snakes around him, snakes being Slytherin's broom racing team.
"CRAP!" Ari cried with panic as he realized what had happened. Did he even acknowledge his team before they took off? Did they think he was avoiding them? He didn't even get to share his extra special game day smile with everyone! This was horrible! Now they would have to win the race so he could have a good reason to brandish his beloved smile.
He glanced over and saw Brookline also at the starting line with him, so at least he wasn't alone in this circumstance. The two of them would have some catching up to do. He steeled his nerves and focused on what he would have to do to help the team and secure victory for Ravenclaw.
