This event is part of the 2026 International Magical Olympic Games.
February 19th, 2026
Lake Bear (frozen), Russian Federation
It was time for the third and final sport that would be played here on the ice of Lake Bear, with students lined up on the shores to watch this early morning event as the sun broke its shimmering golden rays over the snowy atmosphere. Tomorrow's event would be in the mountains, but for today only, the elder students would take on the magically enhanced version of a Muggle sport known as curling: an attempt to hit a target in front of them by Summoning faraway stones and letting go of the spell at just the precise moment. If they were accurate in their aiming and in their timing, the stones would slide perfectly onto the centre of the target and win them the coveted 50-point mark; if they were not so accurate, they might be lucky enough to win 40, 30, 20, or 10 points if they managed to scrape various parts of the target... or none, if they did not at all touch it.

The judges did not sit on the dais this time, but instead were down on the ice, scrupulously inspecting the final location of each curling stone and marking down the awarded amount of points on their sheet. The first judge was, of course, the Games' host @Aulis Vorozheykin; he was joined by @Solomon Lear from Hogwarts, @Alan Dolus of Ilvermorny, and finally Mahoutokouro's new @Kotoka Sako. These scrutinizing Heads of various international schools would ensure that no cheating, nudging, unsportsmanlike conduct, or untoward actions would occur!

The fifth- through seventh-year students (really, just seventh-years) huddled in a group on the other side of the lake, ready to be called forward one by one in a randomised order (to promote fairness). Closer to the judges, a giant target had been painted on the ice by the skillful magic of the four Heads, consisting of a total of five rings: the outermost blue ring that would score 10 points, the second-outermost red ring that was worth 20, the middle blue ring that was worth 30, the second-innermost red ring that was worth 40, and finally the tiny white circle in the centre that was worth 50 whole points. Students would try to slide curling stones across the ice towards them using the Summoning Charm, hoping for their stone to land perfectly in the white 50 and for every opponent's stone to sail past theirs without so much as a touch.

Who will be victorious among these upper years? Let's wait and see together...

HOW TO PLAY
There will be only one round and you should post 200+ words in this round. Please make sure you include your character's WIS, EVA, and ACC stats in your post.
A reminder that first-years cannot participate in this event.

Your Action will automatically be "casting Accio" two times; it is implied that you are aiming for the centre of the circle and the 50 points. It does not matter when you post in the thread as long as you make it in before the deadline; Tatsu will determine the order of the participants, and each participant will go two times (so it is possible that one person could have the first go AND the last go, if Tatsu decides to be particularly evil).

Each participant will have 2, possibly 3 rolls for each of their two turns. The first roll is a standard WIS roll to beat the WDC of 9 (for 2-4th years) and 12 (for 5-7th years). The second roll is a standard ACC roll. If the ACC roll is 20+, you receive 50 points; 17-19 receives 40; 14-16 receives 30; 11-13 receives 20; and 8-10 receives 10. If you roll a 7 or lower, you receive no points.

The third possible roll is that if your stone is in a "scoring range" and another user's stone enters that "scoring range", you will roll a standard EVA check to see if the other stone misses your stone. If your stone's EVA check is higher than the other stone's ACC check, it stays in its current "scoring range" and the two stones do not touch; however, if your stone's EVA check is lower than the other stone's ACC check, the other stone bumps your stone down to the next lowest "scoring range". All stones will have the stats of their players.

This does give an advantage to players who go later, but that is why Tatsu will determine the order and you can post at any time without worrying about trying to be the last to post.

Whoever has the most points between their 2 stones at the end of the round is crowned the champion. In case of a tie, the user with the highest total of their WIS and ACC rolls when added together takes home the win.

This event is moderated and it was required to sign up for it ahead of time. Please do NOT post here if your character is not signed up.
Please do not godmod Aulis or any of the other judges.

Rose didn't really understand curling. Sure, it was a pretty cool sport, but it was pretty to clear to her why it didn't get as much interest or competition as other winter sports that were flashier, like figure skating and hockey. It was a game of precision and caution, as opposed to the thrill of a fight, a flight, or a flip. Rose wasn't sure she would be good at the muggle version of the sport- all that accuracy to push it from so far away, the strategy if another team was in your way, or how to guide the path.

But she did know she was good at casting spells.

It felt a little bit like a dueling day that morning, except the stakes were much lower, so she had prepared similarly. Her hair was braided back out of her face to avoid any obstruction of her ever-important vision, especially in the potentially unpredictable wintry weather, and her clothes were warm but well-fitted, as to not impede any of her movements. This competition didn't really matter that much to Rose- it was a simple friendly game between schools, after all- but she certainly wouldn't mind a medal to immortalize her trip to Koldovstorez, and she wanted to make Hogwarts proud. She was fairly sure there were four people in the competition with her, so to place, she basically just had to not be last.

When her name was called for her turn, Rose gripped her chestnut wand and stepped up, her face clearly focused. Her eyes zeroed in on the stone waiting for her across the ice, and she lifted her wand to point at it. There was a familiarity in her stance, in her gaze, in her focus, as if she had done this before, her dueling instincts taking the lead. The summoning charm was one she had practiced hundreds of times before, and she was certain it wouldn't fail her now.

"Accio."

Winter in Koldovstoretz was completely different from what he was used to in Beauxbatons or Lyon, and every day was a pure white wonder. A fairytale, he soon decided. That's what winter should be like in his imagination, and Maxi was grateful he signed up for the trip.

He’d had his last international Broom Racing game last summer, and this seemed the last chance to compete in some kind of game during his school days, even if he didn't completely understand the Olympics thing (something similar was simultaneously going on in the muggles' world, right?) initially. Yet travelling all the way from France to Russia and not participating in any event? Certainly not Maxi's style. It didn't really matter whether he won or not. But still, it would be great to win a medal for Beauxbatons...and so, out of the events hosted, he picked curling, which seemed the most promising.

Curling was quite a weird word too, to be honest. Having almost no knowledge of muggle sports, Maxi mumbled it to himself a few times, still confused about the word's root. He should have properly asked @Archer Duncan the previous night, Maxi thought, as he was quite sure his younger friend who was so keen on exploration might know something, or could at least offer some ideas. He made a mental note that he would discuss it with Archer when he got back to their yurt as he entered the court, curiously observing his surroundings. Okay, curling seemed fun and perfectly accessible to him, a former duellist turned broom racer, so he guessed he would just enjoy it anyway.

He smiled and nodded at @Rose Moon when he spotted her in the court. They'd had quite a few run-ins here and there during various interschool events, and it was good to know that someone was still sticking around after all these years. When his name was called, Maxi was a little reluctant to expose his hands to the freezing air, hissing slightly as the cold bit into his fingertips. He took his stance--it sort of brought him back to the distant days when he was still a duellist, and nostalgia washed over again--then took aim, flickering his wrist. "Accio."

@Aly Salinger
Kavi exhaled as he shook out his wand arm. It was cold outside- bitterly cold, especially for the boy, who was used to the jungle heat in the midst of summer. He was wearing two shirts underneath his blue sweater, which when packing for the trip, he picked up and immediately thought of Aly and her house. Gosh, he was happy to see her. Usually a more stoic figure, he melted into his romantic poet tendencies around her, his every thought about her writing a new stanza.

Her being there was all the more pressure on him, though. He was fairly confident in his athletic abilities, coaching and captaining the best school Quidditch team. However, he hadn't had much luck in the intellectual and magical competitions, especially those abroad. The International Quidditch Game over the summer hadn't gone to plan, and at the Potions Championship last year, he had choked up after the sudden death of most of his schoolmates during the attack in Hogsmeade. Not to mention the cold weather reminded him of his darkest moment, a night that he let the beast take over...

Kavi tried not to think about it, pushing it all out of the way so he could focus, which was harder than he anticipated, with a cute girl constantly in his peripheral that he kept sneaking smiles toward. Hopefully, things could go to plan and he could woo her with his Summoner's Curling abilities. The thought perked him up a bit, straightening his sweater so he could look a bit more presentable.

At his turn, Kavi took a loose yet strong stance, mirroring his spellwork practice with Jason, his dukun. He focused on the stone as he cast the spell- "accio!"- and tried to release it at just the right moment, anticipation racing in his chest until the stone came to a complete stop, but he wouldn't be able to breathe properly until the announced the winner- or maybe until Aly came over (though both would be nice).

"Okay, Haven, you've got this, you can do this," Haven said, hyping herself up as she jumped from side to side. "You're going to be cheering me on the whole time, right Marcus? Right?" She stared down her pygmy puff, who made no effort to respond. "WAKE UP, MARCUS! I know it's cold outside, but I need you to cheer me on, otherwise I don't think I'm going to be able to do this. I tried to get you to wear your matching mittens so we could be cute together, but someone refused to put them on! I bet someone is wishing they had worn their mittens right about now, HUH? But you're lucky I love you, Marcus, because Mum sent us some hand warmers, so you can have a nice toasty seat to snuggle up against. You have to stay here, though, you can't interfere this time. And you can't pretend to be one of the stones. And that's a pom-pom, not a cute looking pygmy puff, Marcus. Got it?" She got down to his eye level to look at him face to face. "Is that understood, mister?? Okay! I love you!" She gave him a firm pat on the head with her mittened hand before bouncing up to join the crew down by the lake, but not before spotting her friend, Aly.

"Aly! Aly Aly Aly! Hiii!" she gave an enthusiastic wave and held up Marcus for her to see. "Marcus came to watch, too! But, um, I think he'll stay sitting over here." Haven wasn't sure that Marcus and Aly were on speaking terms again after last year's international incident where he ate Aly's romantic letter from her special mystery foreign romantic pen pal and so they didn't even get to meet up while they were in France! It was truly a tragedy, especially because Haven had so wanted Aly to share in the fuzzy happy romantic feelings she got to experience for the first time after meeting Cyrus. Her face got all blushy just thinking about him. She wished he could be here to watch her. Even if Haven didn't do good- which was the mostly likely scenario- it would have been nice to see him afterward. And who knows, maybe she would have surprised him with her spellcasting abilities.

When it came to her turn, Haven couldn't even look as she tried to cast. It was definitely counterintuitive, but she was just so nervous, she was shaking so bad! Though maybe it was the cold...

She must have been quite the sight, eyes clenched tight, chicken mittened hand outstretched in front of her as she cast "Accio!"

THE GAME
A note to all players: The game is over! If you believe a mistake has been made in the calculations of this round, please reach out to me, Aulis Vorozheykin, ASAP so it can be addressed promptly. Rolls can be found in the roll-channel chat on the Discord. If you do not have Discord and wish to see the rolls, please owl me.
The Order
A randomised order was developed between the four competitors: Maximilien would go first, then Haven would take both of her turns before Kavi sent off his first stone. Rose had the advantage with her first stone after the halfway point, and then Kavi would go again. The final two competitors would be Maximilien again and then Rose with another advantage: being the last one.
The Defence
Max started off strong with a 50-pointer, with Haven coming in close with a 40 on her first stone. Haven's second stone sailed into the 50, narrowly missing Max's and putting her into an early lead with 90 points.

Kavi's first stone also hit the 50, and Aulis was beginning to wonder if he had made the target too big until Rose's first stone knocked Kavi's and Haven's down into the 40. The stone that had just been bumped down from Kavi also hit the Haven stone that had already been sitting in the 40, bumping it down to the 30. The score at this point was Rose and Max tied with 50, Kavi with a measly 40, and Haven clinging onto her lead with 70.

Kavi's second stone also sailed into the 50, but missed both stones that were already there. However, Max's second stone missed the 50 entirely and went into the 40, missing Kavi's stone there but bumping Haven's down to the 30 to join her other one. Kavi and Max were tied for the lead at this point with 90 each, with Haven holding 60 and Rose holding 50. One more competitor left to go.

Rose would start a chain reaction with her perfect second shot, hitting the 50 and sending Kavi's perfect stone down to the 40, where it smacked his own other stone down to the 30. There, Kavi's other stone would hit one of Haven's, hitting it down to the 20 and ending the game with a final score of Rose 100, Max 90, Kavi 70, and Haven 50!

Rose Moon takes the gold, though she'd have to wait until the official medal ceremony at the weekend to officially claim her prize. Well done to all who played!
Final Score
@Rose Moon 100, @Maximilien de Fostoncy 90,
@Kavi Kattimani 70, @Haven Bohannon 50
