How do the homesteads work?

• Homesteads come in three different types and each is magically enhanced to cater to anywhere from two to eight people.
• Everyone who attends the Tenūsa Open Day from a non-Tenūsa school will be staying in one of the three traditional homestead types. You do not need to sign up for a homestead but in doing so you would be prohibiting yourself from being a part of stage 1 of the moderated event.
• Tenūsa students can choose to stay in a homestead with their international friends (sign up) or continue to dorm in their school rooms, or with the villagers of Omah Geni (not sign up.)
• To RP in your homestead, follow these steps:
  1. Find a community
  2. Choose your homestead

  1. Traveller Wagons
  2. High Houses
  3. Rumah Adat

  You may find descriptions and inspiration for these below.

  3. Post your homestead thread(s).

Step 1: Finding a Homestead Community

In order to find people to be your community for this event, choose one of the following two paths:

1. Find a community yourself by asking around and/or staying with your friends. Perhaps a group of you are in-character friends and would want to stay together. Perhaps you want to choose who you stay with instead of being randomly assigned. Perhaps you post in RPGs Partners Requests asking for potential members. All of these are fine! If you choose this path, please make sure you have consent from all of them and then post your group here in this thread, making sure you answer "No" to "Randomly Assigned Roommates".
2. Sign up to receive a random homestead in this thread. If you have a small group but you want more people, or if you have no group and want to make new friends, simply sign up here and answer "Yes" to "Randomly Assigned Roommates".
   Note that only one person from your group should post here! Please do not clutter the thread.

Some additional information:

• If there is anyone you do not want to be matched with, please let us know by messaging Lawrence Maynard. You do not need to provide a reason; you can simply say "Please do not room me with this person".
• Sign-ups for homesteads will close on December 25th for the start of the actual events. If you have not signed up by then, please do not RP in a homestead.

If you want to officially register your homestead community or sign up to be roomed with others, please fill out the following form:

Names of Homestead Occupants: The names of everyone who is already in your group (can be just you)
Number of Homestead Occupants: How many people are already in your group?
Preferred Homestead Theme: Choose between Traveller Wagons, High Houses, and Rumah Adat. We will try to honour this but no promises if you are signing up to be matched with others.
Assign Random Roommates? Yes/No; if you want more people to be added to your group (as long as it is fewer than 8 people) or if you are solo and want to be assigned roommates, put Yes. If you do not want anyone else added to your group, put No.

Step 2: Choosing a Theme

With such a wild and vibrant collection of cultures that Tenūsa draws in, there are a number of unique dwellings carved from those very traditions. Tenūsa is a culmination of all that rich culture and embraces it fully integrating multiple home styles to the island. In signing up for a homestead, you may choose between being assigned any of the following three traditional homes; travellers wagons, high houses, or rumah adat and state so in your sign-up (form can be found above). Read through the descriptions for each of the homestead themes below:

1. Traveller Wagons

   With size altering spells similar to that of western wizard tent designs, these wagons are magically enhanced to be far larger on the inside, accommodating to the amount of people needed to fit (max of eight). These small homes are vibrant in colour and style, and remnants of the earliest wizards and witches to come to the island who fled their native lands to the safe shores of the Isle with all the possessions they could manage. Being an island of far travellers, given that Tenūsa brings students from two continents, these relics are a part of their history and symbolise the long journey it takes to study here.
   
2. High Houses

   Houses of wood, thatch, clay and stone line the mountain ridges all above Omah Geni. These places are more magically enhanced than other homes on the Isle, making them feel more accustomed to western ideals of comfort. Still they burst with life and nature and all have a unique sense of charm to them. Souring up above in the trees they feature similar designs to more advanced tree houses before burrowing into the mountain side for more space, making use of the natural caves.
3. Rumah Adat

   These homes are traditional and tend to have a real focus on a simpler way of life, using the environment around them to provide as a natural magic rather than charms and spells. Many natives to the Isle opt to live in these unique and decorated homes. With curved roofs and an open space interior they blend seamlessly into the jungle as if they have always belonged. For inspiration check out some of the real examples.
   

Step 3: Posting Your Homestead Thread(s)

• Unlike the majority of events, homesteads are only able to be roleplayed in for the first day of the three day event. This will be understood as more information is revealed and moderation begins. This is your own responsibility, so please stick to this rule as if you don't you will likely be unable to attend the main moderated event!
• Your homestead should have a unique name of your choice to make clear which community a thread belongs to; you should tag [homesteadname] in the titles of each thread occurring in that homestead.
• Please treat homestead threads of a group your character is NOT in as Private [PV] - you cannot enter them unless you have been specifically invited by members of that group.
• Each homestead thread is still subject to HiO RP rules (200 words minimum). [Note that, while the first post of a homestead thread can include the description provided above, this does not count towards your 200 words of RP.]
