This thread is used to apply for a Special Ability for your character. If you want to apply for a Special Race or Talent (Seer, Metamorphmagus, Parselmouth, Werewolf, Dhampir, Part-Goblin, Part-Veela, Part-Giant), please do so in the registration thread of your school.

Detailed descriptions of special abilities can be found on the second page of the list of magical races/talents and special abilities. There are over 50 abilities that you can apply for. Please make sure that you fulfill the prerequisites of the abilities before you apply for them. Special abilities are gained every year for humans, and every other year for magical races/talents (who gain race/talent specific abilities in the years that they don't choose).
This means, if you are a first year and have already applied for a special race, you cannot apply for an ability before your second year.

The application process is simple. Reply to this thread with the following simple application. If any edits are needed, feedback from a moderator will be edited into your post (please check your application regularly for this feedback), and you'll be expected to edit your application accordingly until it fits our site lore and guidelines. Don't delete the notes moderators left on your post, even if you made the changes. If your application is approved, a moderator will edit your character page's trunk post to include your ability application.

Ruby Angèlique may come off as a person more on the fearless side, and if you think that, you’re exactly right. She doesn’t get scared for challenges or people, which may be why she enjoys fuelling so much. Ruby is not the person to back away from a challenge or a task if it gets too hard, she’s always up for whatever she’s headed for. Things most people would find scary, Ruby would just find exciting, exhilarating even. One day, she dreams to go into the muggle world just so that she can try out their ideas of “scary” things. Her favourite thing ever are duelling matches, but only when she’s one of the duellists art of it. Ruby loves how fun they are, shooting spells at other wizards, trying to dodge the spells shot at her. Of course, like any other wizard, duelling was still just a normal sport to her. It’s just one of the things she’s fearless of, especially because she makes sure to win. No matter how intimidating another wizard is that she is about to duel, Ruby never gets scared. She also never understood fear. Why would people get scared? It’s not like it would change anything, the problem in front of you is still the same whether you were scared or not, to her it was just a waste of your time. Maybe even her lack of fear made her scarier. Growing up in the wizarding world, you’re bound to see a lot of “scary” things, all of the monsters and creatures roaming around he streets where you grew up walking. Maybe all of the exposure as a little child had made her immune? Ruby didn’t know. Maybe it was how high of expectations her parents had on her, how she always did things to impress them, how that made her now years later, never feel fear. The worst part is, Ruby felt like her lack of fear was scary in itself, at least to others. She never meant it in a cruel way, but she always liked the way people would view her as scary, it gave her such a nice sense of power. The way she would never even flinch in the face of danger, while others would scream, it made her feel superior. She liked it. Those tales that little kids told of monsters hiding under their beds, or lurking in their closets, their never scared her, if anything it excited her mind. She was truly fearless.

One of the most important things in as Chinese culture is appearance. Even if you are poor, you are under constant pressure to go into debt just so you can look like you have money. Cars, clothes, jewelry, hair, makeup, bags, shoes. Anything that makes you look like a million bucks even if you have nothing. Now if you actually have money, this means to differentiate yourself you must go above and beyond to show people what real wealth looks like. Designer bags? No. You buy the designer. Top make up brands? No, you own a cosmetic juggernaut.

This is the social pressure and standard Maria Leung, the daughter of a wealthy Portuguese/Macanese family, is born into. From the moment she entered the world she was made an accessory to her mom like a handbag. As she grew up, she learned a person’s worth is in the fear and envy of others. When she reached adolescence she bonded with her mother over a shared love of shopping and getting the best at maximum price, not at a bargain like poor people.

Maria carries all of this with her in her time in Mahoutokoro. If she doesn’t feel like the prettiest girl in the room, the next day she is. If she has a bad hair day -which is never- she turns it into the “next big thing.” It doesn’t matter what she is wearing it always must look the best on her. She wakes up early in the mornings to enjoy her tea and to admire her own youthful complexion in the mirror, an effect aided by her western and Chinese heritage.

From looks to attitude, Maria is groomed to give the best impression or face the overwhelming ire of her mother. Though this facade slips when she feels insulted or slighted, she is always dutiful to give the most polite, well educated and pretty responses. This effect has given her an often other-worldly and distracting air about her that she takes pride in that separates her from the normal people.

Maria knows she’s pretty and uses it to full advantage whenever she has the opportunity. Whether to try to charm her way out of conflict, intimidate others who are more self conscious or simply enjoy the attention of others. When there is a way to curry favor or influence through her presence, she does her ancestors proud and her mother prouder.

A majority of Maria’s life has been magic less. With a father who is a squib and a mother who is a muggle. Her life was far from difficult as she always got everything she ever wanted but it also comes with a rather unconventional problem solving skills at least from the perspective of the magic world. An understanding that you can put two things together and make something useful without the need for magic or potions.

Maria didn’t always think this was a strength when she first entered Mahoutokoro a year ago. In fact, living life as a muggle put her at a severe disadvantage in the education system. However, it did force her to approach problems in different ways. Overcoming obstacles that would stump her classmates. A locked door, for example, if it wasn’t enchanted, could always be jimmied. Not that she was ever known to force open a door before! She would of course “never” do that.

Another habit she had was always to carry around a pencil and a solid ruler. Not for doing homework, that part sucked. But one could accomplish many tasks with a little leverage or by carefully, ever so carefully move objects without creating evidence. Not that she was ever known to move a classmates books so she could see even just the corner of an answer. She would “never” cheat.

While Macgyvering cheating implements and brute forcing doors isn’t necessarily exclusive to muggles, it is the habits brought by a life of not having magic.

Some more examples of muggle think is her clever use of makeup to hide unsightly scars and blemishes. He rescue one of her classmates from embarrassment when the student was pranked and she got covered in a nasty looking rash. The girl was too embarrassed to go to the hospital wing, so Maria got to work with a clever use of makeup to hide the rash well enough that the girl felt comfortable making her way to the nurse to get it remedied. She also would “never” use her makeup abilities to impersonate other people well enough to trick others in place of a polyjuice potion. That definitely never came up.

When faced with difficult circumstances and situations, Maria uses her muggle upbringing to find ways to overcome and not as a means to feel lesser than or to be stifled in any way. The muggle condition is her aid not her hindrance.

Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it): (531 Words)
Being a strong young man, Dylan was a little mature for his age understanding that things didn't usually pan out the way you imagined them in your mind or the way it was in storybooks. Life had different challenges and Dylan knew that he would have to take up those challenges as they came. Dylan wasn't one to run away from any danger. He wouldn't back off as long as he thought he could fight.

Dylan's life had many great things which were not limited to his boyfriend and his younger sister; both of whom he adored very much. He wouldn't forgive himself if anything happened to either of them. And for that, he would do anything to make sure he is able to protect them and keep them safe. His friend Damion is on the list too but not as much as his boyfriend and his younger sister.

A past memory that haunted the young Dylan's mind was an incident which no matter how much he tried to forget, was something that didn't leave his mind that much. It was on a vacation back when his sister was maybe 4 years old; when they were playing in the backyard of their vacation home when a small porcupine came close to Dylan and Alys. Unable to get a spell up as his mind froze in fear seeing the creature; he always blamed himself for that. Luckily his mother was close by and cast the Flipendo spell on the Porcupine and helped Alys out. Dylan was mesmerized by how his mother was able to help out. This was something that haunts the young Dylan's mind to this point that he wants to spend time learning spells so that he doesn't get paralyzed at a critical time.

Dylan never wants to freeze or have to find his wand at times when he really needs to be active and be alert for what is happening around. This pushed the young boy to learn more about doing spells without speaking. So he wouldn't freeze at a crucial time.

Dylan wouldn't ever want his sister or anyone in that situation and he is slow to draw his wand and is unable to come to their rescue. Dylan remembered how upset he was when he had been slow that day. He doesn't want that to ever happen again. It had shaken the young boy to his core. Dylan remembers that he had tears in his eyes seeing his younger sister a little hurt which his mother had immediately taken care of with spells and wrapped her up in bandages. But Dylan was sure he didn't want to ever freeze on casting a spell if he knew of one.

With time, Dylan became more and more confident in doing spells without having to speak. The first spell he practiced was the first spell he had missed all those years ago, when he was unable to cast the spell to protect his sister. Dylan's mother helped her getting better at doing spells without speaking. He spent hours learning about it. He loved how his mother was being so helpful to him knowing how much it meant to young Dylan.

[reducio]With how caring Dylan is it was no surprise that he felt empathetically for others. He would hate to see anyone hurt but that didn't mean he was not willing to help that said person. At first, blood would make a little uncomfortable. But eventually with time, Dylan moved on from being uncomfortable to comfortably handling the sight of blood. He would help people in getting patched up and would do the bandaging of people. He wanted everyone to feel comfortable and not feel hurt. He would make sure that he would get some first aid to people that were hurt. He didn't want them to be unconscious with blood loss.

His parents would say that he had a healing touch. But in reality he had a real interest in helping people and making sure that they were feeling good. He had a healing touch in that sense but his touch was not magical. He seemed to be interested in healing. He wanted to make sure that the hurt people got all the medical and healing care that they needed. From a very young age, Dylan had been into taking care of hurt people. He wanted to help as much as he could. A small six year old Dylan could be seen taking a bowl of cold compress to his sick mum. He had stayed with his mum till she got all better. he would give her timely medicine and make sure she got sufficient hot soup. He didn't want his mum to get even sicker. He was glad that she was okay once he had helped her with getting better.

Dylan was a good boy, in the sense that he never actually hurt someone. He would be apologetic if he had accidentally hurt someone and would rush to help that hurt kid. He had accidentally pushed Damii once and he had luckily not got hurt that bad but he had started to be careful after that. he didn't want to hurt anyone. He enjoyed playing with them but not hurting them. As a volunteer work he had started going to the near by hospital and helping in bandaging hurt people. That was his first exposure to the actual world of hurt. He had not seen very bad situations but had still seen some situations where the person was badly wounded and needed immediate care and Dylan had not backed off from it. he would help them and others to his capacity. [size=150] ╚════════════════╝[/size]

[reducio]Dylan had been born and brought up in a pure blood family. He knew he was a team player from the beginning. He wanted to do things that would help his team out. So having evasive maneuvers was a good thing for him. He could take hits away from his team. He wanted to help his dueling team out as much as he can. He wants to be a player which has people looking up to him. He was happy to be in a place where he could show his magic ability and have people appreciate him.

He was happy that his house had put him up in the Dueling team. He was prepped and ready for dueling. As a young kid he always had the stamina for dueling. He wanted to help his team win the matches and not be one of the losing teams. Though he knew winning and losing was a way of life and that's how things usually worked. He looked out for his team mates and wanted to be helpful to them. He has been a team player. He cares for his team as much as he can. He wants his team to win matches and be the best team there is.

As a kid, Dylan always excelled in games played in teams. He would save his team mate and take the heat of the game on himself. He wants to do the same thing when it came to being in school. He is a good team player. He won't be called the best but well he was really close to that. He wants his team to win the matches and be the best team on the campus. A team which every one would want to join in. He wants to help his team win the matches.

Dylan has a soft spot for his childhood friend, Damion. But that doesn't mean he always wants to be on his team. As a kid they were many times on the same team and won games. He was helping out as much as he could. They would scavenger hunt and have fun. He loved having fun with his mates and friends. He loved being the center of attention but as he grew older he realized that that was not always a good thing. He started paying more attention to his teammates and house mates as he grew older. He knew that he needed to work as a team. [/reducio]

[reducio]Born to Pureblood parents, Dylan was happy that he had been born into a prestigious family. He loved that he could do magic and learn more about it. He was so happy that he would get to learn the different aspects of magic. He was happy when his acceptance letter came from the Durmstrang School. That was something that he was wanting to do. He wanted to learn more about magic and be a good Wizard. He had read up about them in the books at his home. He wanted to learn more from other resources and use his ability to help others. He wanted to help others more than himself.

Dylan works hard to achieve things he had thought about. He wants to be a good dueler. He practices in the room assigned for it. He is a rule follower. He tends to do things the correct way unless it's something with his ability. He doesn't think that using his ability is cheating or winning with misuse of things. He thinks that if his ability helps people around him he is happy to be a part of that. He wants to help others, friends, his house mates and team mates. He is a generous person that way. He wants to be a good influence on people who look up at him like his best friend Damion. He wants to help others as much as he can. He wants to be a good wizard.

Dylan is not scared of things easily. It helps in being more himself around things that would usually frighten people. He is really brave than other children his age. He would be happy to help someone face their fears as he fears almost nothing. He can be called brave for being so. He wouldn't mind helping out others fight their fears or deal with their fears.

Dylan tries to think of happy memories that he has with his friends and family whenever he is put in situation that would make him feel afraid. He doesn't let the fear grasp a hold of him. He let his will be stronger than ever to hold him. He doesn't let the memories of the happy times he had spent with his family and friends leave his mind. That way, he is able to overcome the fears. He thinks of all the happy times he had spent with Alys (his younger sister) and well with his family. He loves spending time and does so whenever he gets off school. [reducio]Dylan has always been a team player. Whether he is playing in his school's team or playing with his friends. He always cares for people around him. Maybe that is why he is such a good friend to have. When he was younger, he would take care that when they were playing games in groups, he would make sure that he was not rough with others. He knew that he was a big boy from beginning. He didn't want to hurt anyone and it would have been easier for him to hurt someone.

Dylan had accidentally pushed someone and rushed to his parents when he had hurt someone. He didn't know, back then, how to help the friend he had hurt. And seeing how his parents helped his friend, pushed him into helping people. He wanted to do something that would help people and heal them. He was eager to learn more about healing spells.

Once Dylan started school, he would keep his nose buried in healing books. He was eager to learn more about healing. He had a keen interest in it. When he was determined, it was hard to move him from his resolve. He wanted to make his parents proud and make them see that they had an influence on Dylan and that they had raised a good son. He wanted his younger sister, Alys, to be proud of him and too look up to him. He wanted to be a good influence on his younger sister.

Dylan loves helping anyone irrespective of the house they are in or what school they are in. He just wans to be good and help anyone in need. He never could leave anyone alone when they clearly needed his help. He cares too much about people and can't leave them alone when he sees that they need help. He will do whatever is required. Since she was a young girl, Devon was obsessed with her hair. She rarely wore it down to her shoulders. Instead, she liked having it styled differently. She chose even more intricate designs when she learned to do her hair. She enjoyed having the creativity of choosing a different hairstyle. Even now, at Ilvermorny, Devon tries out different hairstyles.

Devon was a dancer and enjoyed playing the violin. She had plenty of experience dressing up for dancing and playing at recitals. Compliments were given to her … and not just about her performance. “Devon is so pretty!” “Mom, can we ask Devon where she bought that dress from? It looks so lovely on her!” “Do you see the hairstyle Devon is using? It suits her!” It filled her with pride to know that people liked her and were willing to compliment her. Even more importantly, they were willing to compliment her on more than just her performance.

Devon took her time getting dressed and applying her makeup in the dressing room of her dance school and recitals. It took her so long that she’d have to arrive extra early. Yet, despite how long it took, she wanted to appear poised to perfection for her performances. As important as it was to entertain, she also needed to look good while doing so! Within the dressing room, she often helped the other girls with their hair and makeup, as well.

Once her ears were pierced, Devon became attached to wearing different types of earrings and would frequently wear mismatched earrings. She routinely followed the beat of her drum. She’d even wear mismatched socks whenever possible … if she ever wears socks. As much as she pays attention to fashion, she also likes to add her quirks to her dress sense. Between her jewelry and hairstyle, she makes sure she is remembered for being skilled and her appearance.

Just like with her clothing. Devon loves to wear dresses and skirts. With the Ilvermorny dress code the way it is, she always wears sandals. She loves wearing colorful clothing, as well. Bright colors filled her wardrobe, her favorites being the pastel colors. Despite the dress code, she always tries to look her best. Whenever she could, she enjoyed expressing herself even more with muggle clothing. She puts forth considerable time to ensure her clothing looks good and that she wears only a limited amount of make-up. As she grows older, she’ll spend that much more time applying the makeup she chooses to wear.

Picture it. Devon was in the dressing room changing into a beautiful outfit for a violin recital or changing into a leotard so she could practice dancing. No matter what she’s doing, she stays calm and collected. She thinks about the upcoming competition but doesn’t let it get into her head. She knows she practiced well and that becoming nervous about the situation would not help. So, she kept her head calm and composed.

Even more so, Devon would comfort the other girls around her in the changing room of the dance studio and the auditorium. She’d do her best to calm their spirits, including the girls she was supposed to compete against. Even after a few minutes of talking to her, the other girls would feel calmer and less stressed. After all, Devon believed in a fair competition, where she’d test her skills in a head-to-head match. It would even the playing field, which made her much happier if she won (and made her humble if she lost).

Throughout her time in muggle school, Devon never stressed about her homework. She was pretty studious, in fact, and never let the pressure of an exam haunt her. She never experienced that annoying feeling of anxiety and stress. Her mind was perpetually at ease; her performances spoke volumes due to her never worrying. She knew she could do the work, knew that she studied a lot, and believed in herself. As such, she never attempted to second-guess her decisions or confidence.

When Devon came to Ilvermorny as the youngest child in her family, she already heard stories from her older siblings about the school. So, when she started, what occurred at the school felt like second nature to her. Taking part in the ceremony for her house didn’t stress her out. Although she was very happy to have been chosen by the Horned Serpent - it was the house she hoped would choose her. With all the magic all over the school, she did not show any extra worry about her abilities. Even though it was all new to her, she took each challenge with stride and a smile. She studied until her mind went numb and joined as many clubs and activities as she could manage. While she was always on the move, she was happy with her life and her decisions. Her presence was calm, and she exuded that feeling to those around her.

The summer before his second year, Phelan is out walking at night on the beach near his house when he gets attacked by Lucy Hills, @Minnie Duke’s iNCP, as described in this RP (total WC: 519). As a result of a head injury during the attack, Phelan will not remember much of the event, including anything that would reveal Lucy’s identity, as agreed upon by the writers.

Phelan Emile couldn’t help but notice he was beginning to develop a sort of a reputation. He had always been a quiet boy, preferring to be by himself or with a few very close friends. When forced to socialize with children his age, he would smile, shyly, maybe introduce himself unprompted, but after that let others do the talking. But after his mother passed away when he was eight, he began to withdraw socially even more. He believed that no one could ever understand what he was going through, and eventually, that no one could understand him. He even thought this of his closest friends. His friends couldn’t always support him because they were all either homeschooled or didn’t go to the same school. Maybe he would have been able to get through the depression and feelings of isolation if not for the reactions he received from his peers, when he was teased when caught crying about his mother. He was also bullied at school because his peers considered him to be odd. He didn’t like sports, but preferred reading and collecting flowers during free time at school. He set up mental defenses and convinced himself he didn’t owe anything to anyone who didn’t care about him, and certainly not strangers.

His relationship with his father didn’t help. The man was very much like his son. Maybe it was for this reason that they didn’t often get along. Unfortunately for the boy, Severin Emile thought the best way to raise his son after his mother’s death was to practice ‘tough love’ . It came out too harsh for the grieving boy, and Phelan began to resent his father. He didn’t have a very good relationship with his father either, which may have been another source. Though Serverin was certainly not a blood purist, he thought it was important to raise his son like any wealthy pureblood, and Phelan often felt criticized by his father’s standards.

Whereas he used to be seen as just shy and maybe a little strange, by the time he got to Beauxbatons, people had begun to actually avoid him. There was something about the way he never said a word, maybe the way he carried himself, that he had begun to realize scared people. In addition, he was rather impulsive and couldn’t help himself from saying whatever came to him, even if it was rude. At this point, the boy didn’t care. It was a vicious cycle. Akari had a lot of friends.

Well, perhaps that was a lie. Gasp, a lie! How could it be?! Akari technically had a lot of friends... a lot of brand-new ones, that is. After living with his parents in his rather remote home for years, entering the day program at Mahoutokoro had been a shock to the young child. So many other kids had approached him tentatively throughout the first week, and many of them became his friends. Of course, it wasn't literally everyone... It just seemed like a lot of people to him. Akari wasn't sure how long this 'getting swamped with friendly people' thing would last, but while it was here, it was pretty nice.

Throughout each day, while he and his classmates were at the day program, many students seemed to want to be around him. Whether it was from the newfound stress of high expectations or the slightly intimidating storm petrels, the moment Akari arrived at school, his friends rushed to greet him with bright smiles, their shoulders relaxing. It gave him a sparkling rush of... something. Happiness, probably. Giddiness? He wasn't sure if that description was accurate, especially the 'sparkling' part- it was certainly nothing like glitter or the sun reflecting off of water, but Akari could have sworn that he saw something similar occurr in his friends.

Or perhaps that was just how friends worked. Was it? Friends do that, right? Happiness, usually? He brushed it off as the usual carefreeness of young children-- which they all were. Of course, whenever Akari saw his friends, he would smile and wave with the familiar fluttering in his chest, but it's not like he immediately had to be beside them... During his first year at the day program, Akari began noticing interesting patterns. Even people he didn't know would seem to gravitate towards him ever so slightly, shifting a little closer or smiling at him randomly in hallways.

Seriously. Is this how people normally are? Akari wasn't sure what to think of it all, so he came home one afternoon and asked his parents about it. His mother simply joked that he was like the 'father' of his friend group. "People notice you, and want to be near you. You're a sweet kid." She patted him gently. Akari smiled and nodded, but he wasn't exactly sure what that meant. However, he didn't know what to ask, so he remained quiet.

When he returned the next day, he found one of his closer friends, Haruto, distressed at the back of the classroom. Class had yet to begin for another three minutes or so, so Akari sat beside him. Haruto was practically incoherent-- whenever he spoke, it sounded like a lot of mumbling. Akari wasn't sure what to say, since he had no idea what the situation was, so he just patted his back. By the time class started, Haruto was back to normal, albeit with reddish eyes. He smiled awkwardly and thanked the other boy, though Akari still had no idea what he had even done.

Ivan Aleksandar Baskakova, the eldest of the two Baskakova twins, in essence had only been graced with more than favourable looks, as though he had truly been graced with beauty by the Goddess Athena.

Despite developing a brooding personality even at a young age and detesting his twin, Melor, who excelled in training compared to Ivan, their enrolment in etiquette classes and involvement in the vast extracurricular activities that took a large portion of their time had resulted in Ivan receiving favourable treatment from others due to his appearance, which was a first for Ivan, who would mostly be hiding behind his brother's shadow — for once, Ivan would be at the forefront of appraisal, even if it would only be for his looks. Often, Ivan would hear whispers from those around him, complimenting his striking features, how his prominent nose and cautiously planted beauty marks would bring good fortune to his family amidst their ongoing rise as prominent figures in Irkutsk, albeit at times a gloomy city.

Standing out was not something Ivan desired, yet, it occurred whenever he walked into a crowded room; which in his case, consisted of the array of extracurricular activities he was enrolled in. Heads would turn, staring at the young boy and not long, whispers followed. The attention was never something Ivan desired, seeking nothing more than solace and acceptance from his father rather than his peers deeming him too intimidating to initiate simple conversations with, based on his looks alone. It began to cause unrest for young Ivan, desiring nothing more than basking in friendship with people other than his twin brother. Besides, at times, it was unclear where his looks stemmed from, combining the prominent features of his fathers with the delicate looks of his mother; Ivan was the perfect combination of both the Baskakova parents, inheriting a singular deep dimple from his mother entwined it all together, adding onto his charm on the rare occasions he'd smile upon receiving praise.

At the age of nine, Ivan's beauty was utilised in the most embarrassing way known to man. The eldest Baskakova was entered into a beauty pageant at a time where the funds could not stretch to feed the family of four. Ivan's alluring and striking looks were enough to grant him first place, his adoration for history during a speech fell on the judge's deaf ears, caring mostly at the young boy who shone on stage despite the stoic and uneasy expression plastered on his face.

It was peculiar, being moulded into the perfect being by developing a wide skill set — the Baskakova name was not enough to pry eyes off Ivan, nor was how his twin brother excelled in all activities the two participated in; rather, Ivan's prominent features which stood out in the array of young children. It was oxymoronic; a young child graced with such beauty, yet unable to achieve success in his endeavours. Though, his teachers rarely cared to comment negatively on the matter, firmly believing one day he'd excel somehow because surely a young boy with such striking features would grow into the perfect man, right?

Dylan had always known he was peaceful. Especially in rough times. As a young child, his cousin had just found out that she had to leave their grandparent's house again because of something that had come up back home. She had been so upset and distressed at the time to the point that she hid herself away in her room for hours as she cried. Eventually, after searching for her for awhile, Dylan found her in her room. He had immediately gone up to her and hugged her. While hugging her, he had noticed that she had calmed down a lot. At first, he thought that all she needed was a hug. He had no idea that it came from something entirely different.

Dylan had lived in America since he was about eight years old. Actually, it had been his aunt that had caused them to move. He knew now that she could be very dangerous when angry. That's why they had to move. He remembered another moment when they had just arrived in America where he had found his mother crying. Of course he had no idea why because his mother had refused to tell him what had happened the day he and his cousin had witnessed a fight like no other occur between his aunt, mom, and grandfather.

Dylan had laid a hand on her and told her it was going to be okay. She had immediately hugged him and sighed into his arms. After their hug broke and he left the room, he hadn't even noticed his mom had stopped crying and looked more at peace than she had in a long time. All he knew was that his mom seemed to enjoy America a lot more than she had been and had started taking him to visit different places that he had never seen before in Wales. He had also gotten to try so many new foods that he had grown to love during his time in America.

There had been so many times that he had comforted people or walked into a tense room and immediately felt it loosen up before he realized something was different about him. He recalled all of the times. Especially the ones with his cousin where he had felt a calm presence come over her. He was shocked that he hadn't ever realized it before. He had just thought that his hugs were sufficient enough instead of it actually being his aura that calmed people down. Especially in stressful situations.

Are you ready?” Her four year older brother Miro brushed a strand of his blond hair from his eyes which had escaped his manbun. With two swift tabs of the stick on the ice, he announced that he was about to launch the puck in her direction.
Amina took a deep breath through her nose and let it out through her mouth. Slowly. And again, always counting to three. Her father had shown her this technique to slow down her heart rate and sharpen her focus. Ice skates were not a broom and she wasn’t quite as home on the ice as she was in the air. Evading this would be tougher than a nicely placed bludger in quidditch. But then again, that was the whole point. Amina had decided that, in order to bring her evasion to the next level, she had to leave her comfort zone. And so, here she was.
Bending her knees a little she took a more table stand, weight more on her toes, ready to jump or fall in any direction. The only protection that her brother had insisted on was a helmet and a mouth piece (which tasted disgusting by the way). “Bring it on!
Miro glanced at her again, then he raised the stick with a quick movement coming from his wrists and Amina jumped to the side, anticipating a straight shot.
For one second, when she hit the ice with her shoulder, but felt no other impact, she thought that she did it. But then she noticed, coming out of her tunnel, that her older brother was having trouble keeping his knees from shaking as hard as he laughed. The puck was still in front of him and she had fallen for his bluff.
“YOU….!” Amina jumped back up on her feet, her face turning red as her hair and skated over to him in order to punish him for messing with her. She wasn’t really mad though, it was good old teasing and when she checked him with her shoulder and tried to bring him off balance, he didn’t even try to evade her. Instead, he just hugged her and tore her down with him.
The girl untangled herself, laughing and spitting hair, and got back up. ““Come on, Miro. For real. I need this. My grades are terrible and besides… There is nothing else I want to do. It’s either this or nothing. And in order to be a professional, I need to be the best. So, if you don’t want me to end up under a bridge or unhappy until the rest of my days….” She stuck out her tongue at him and skated back to her position.
Alright, little girl. I was just messing with you.” He also made his way back to his shooting position and then he raised his eyebrows. “You are sure though that this isn’t about a guy? Are you trying to impress someone or….
Shut up!

Hours and hours, throughout the whole week at home, they went back to the rink to practice. Miro started to shoot at her from a standing position first and then he skated, raising the stakes. In the end, Amina had a lot of bruises but she became as nimble as a fox. The slightest movement was anticipated. It was like she had developed a sixth sense for attacks, expecting them at all times and ready to avoid them at all costs.
