IVAN ALEKSANDAR BASKAKOVA Born the eldest Baskakova twin, Ivan was graced with nothing but good looks, quite literally. Unable to succeed in tasks he deemed mundane in comparison to his twin brother, it appeared that behind his good looks, there was nothing behind his dull and gloomy eyes, often blankly staring into any soul that wished to converse with him. Blessed with a cascade of moles which reminisce constellations in the night sky with its placements and as though graced with beauty by Athena herself — Ivan quickly grew into his prominent features, his lips full and eyes an alluring shade of dark brown; almost a few inches away from pitch black. Proudly standing tall for his age at 161cm, the ego that should reside in the Baskakova child, hid deeply rooted within him. Finding infatuation in history above all, Ivan cared little for his own appearance or his inadequate abilities despite his father’s persistent efforts to mold both Ivan and Melor into perfect beings. Often lingering in the shadows, engrossed by a dusty book taken from the family study, Ivan found peace; not only in solitude, but the experience of weights lifted off his shoulder, momentarily free from the immense pressure put onto him by his father but also, by his mind — which often sought to bring him demise with its own method of thinking. |

PERSONALITY Preferring to seek solace in the consumption of literature, most notably Ancient History, Ivan would rarely engage in useless chatter, finding usual topics of conversation rather tedious unless it involved anything of his special interests. Due to the stern upbringing at the hands of his father and the preferential treatment of his twin brother, Melor, Ivan grew intense feelings of resentment towards his younger brother, a reflection of all he had failed to be — yet, Ivan would never portray how he truly felt, opting to internalise the hatred. Driven by discipline, the eldest Baskakova child spent most of his youth aiming to better himself in hopes to appraise his parents, unable to develop much personality outside of the extension of Melor which had the misfortune of becoming. The idealisation of his twin enabled the formation of peculiar habits; often mimicking his twins’ sense of style, speech, vocal tone and at times facial expressions — all to no avail, immensely struggling to emulate the mirror of his younger brother he desired to be. |

||| | A GLIMPSE INTO THE PAST Tales untold of deep rooted resentment, familial ties and failure. The eldest twin, Ivan, soon grew to despise his own blood at the sheer favouritism exhibited within their own home. Where one twin succeeds, the other, fails. Reducio HISTORY Irkutsk, the major city of industrialism in Siberia, Russia, housed the Baskakova’s, a pure-blooded family who were not vastly well known within the community; primarily due to their pure status having risen quickly in the last 50 years from a mere vassal to a branch as they continue to garner power within society, distantly connected to the Vinogradova lineage, a prominent pure-blooded family in Russia. It was there, in Irkutsk, where the head of the Baskakova house consisting of Vyacheslav and Emin welcomed their only children — a set of non-identical twins; Ivan and Melor, the few minutes that separate their birth ironically forecasted the twins future with Ivan, the eldest, being born on 31st December 2012 at 23:55 and Melor, the youngest, following suit with his birth on 1st January 2013 at 00:07. As the birth of the twins introduced a newfound pressure to fulfil unrealistic expectations due to the lack of success Vyacheslav and Emin had in continuing their lineage, only succeeding in their early forties, time was truly of the essence with the birth of the twins serving as a successful event. Determined to earn respect by the head of the family, The Vinogradova’s, Vyacheslav used the twins to grow their influence, raising the twins as a mere reflection of Vyacheslav’s desires and aspirations, creating the perfect person through his children. The Baskakova’s became extremely strict during the early stages of the twins’ upbringing, providing countless mundane tasks to be completed daily such as reading for hours per day, extensive training, enrolment in etiquette classes and involvement in vast extracurricular activities which took up most of their day. |

||| | THE FIRST INSTANCE Disheartened with the threat of his adorned books being discarded at only eight years old, Ivan's intense glare, fuelled by pure anger, prompted the warranted escape of a valuable piece; revealing his first instance and further aiding his passion for ancient literature. Reducio FIRST INSTANCE OF MAGIC Vengeance. It was all that ran through Ivan’s mind as he glared maliciously at the cascade of books neatly decorating the study. Having once more failed to appease his father with good results during an interim check following a suit of etiquette classes, Ivan’s misunderstanding as to how to accurately outline the use for each extensive cutlery which neatly decorated their dining table, had caused his father to call him back to the study. Faced with a string of words escaping his father’s lips, he began to ignore the venomous words out of pure spite, growing enraged at how he had once more, been compared to his twin brother, Melor; who miraculously excelled the impromptu quiz without prior study, much to Ivan’s demise. It was when his father mentioned discarding the avid history books from the study in an attempt to recenter Ivan’s focus that his ears perked up, forcing him to glare at his father with his lips pursed in quiet irritation. Encompassing rage towards his father for the first time in his life, at the ripe age of 8, his first instance of magic came in the form of a book rattling from the shelf, freeing itself and falling to the ground with a large thump. |
