Quidditch Player YESQuidditch Position BEATERAbilities:Charmer - 2nd Year AbilityReducioAlaric usually walks around with a grin on his face, an open body language inviting people to commute with him. The boy loves to be the centre of attention and will do all he can to get it whether that be the charmer to girls or the clown to get the laughs — much to his family’s chagrin. Alaric thinks of himself as very easy and open, he is loud and outgoing— very much an extrovert! His coy smile, pearly white teeth, bright brown eyes that can light up a room, a contagious laugh that could bring out even the smallest of smiles on the darkest of days. (Too bad he hardly ever seems to get his brother to crack a grin.)
Alaric has a mischievous streak to him and tries to use his innocence to his advantage. A scared look in his eye at the mention of trouble, a white lie here and there, looking nervous when being told off— there was even a pout and watery eyes in his younger years, though he still brings out the tears sometimes if it needs be. Whenever he walks down the halls of Durmstrang he can just feel the eyes of the other students looking at him as he strutted, even a brief look at the confident boy.
And he loved it.
He loved knowing that people were enticed by him. The attention made him feel special and it was something that he could hold onto despite his brother's tedious words of annihilation. Alaric just wanted to be him, he wanted to slouch, he wanted to mess around and- and play with his food! It was more attractive than being so serious all the time. Yet… as he grew he came to realise none of it mattered because in no matter what he wore - a tux or some stained shorts - Alaric still felt that people admired him all the same.
Part of the reason Alaric loves to be sarcastic is because it usually elects laughs from those not on the opposite end of it. He loved the adrenaline rush from people staring at arguments he has with others, again going back to how he loves being the centre of attention, the centre of everyone’s world. Alaric often felt he was easy to get along with. While quite dense and naive, he has moments of seriousness when it comes and that sweet side of him helps when his personality and looks makes him more approachable by people. A smile that puts people at ease. Makes them forget - or at least numb - their troubles.Broken Broomshaft - 3rd Year AbilityReducioMost of Alaric's family loved - or at least tolerated - Quidditch. Alaric knew that if his cousin wasn’t such a baby he would try out for beater at his school, but, seeing as he was a baby, this was not the case. Alaric also loved to play beater. He loved to feel the adrenaline when he used the bat and launch the bludger at an unsuspecting (or suspecting, given as they know someone would try and hit them) player. The panic in their face as they wonder if they would make it or not if the bludger would hit them and send them spiralling or if their own beater would assist.
Alaric was a growing boy, his father getting him in a broom as young as it was safe to do so, and so he was playing some form of Quidditch as early as he could. It started with simple catches, Alaric wouldn’t even be on his broom to begin with, but his dad would throw a quaffle at him at ranging distances, that soon became a harsher throw that Alaric had to hit away — Henri was hesitant to actually let a bludger loose just yet.
Henri was shocked to find that Alaric made good connections more often than not with the bat. “Want to try and get in the air?” Henri asked when Alaric was 8. “You’re not to go high, Alaric. If I feel you’re not being safe I will stop this. Understood?”
“Ja, papa,” yes Alaric had replied, an eye roll of exasperation causing Henri to smile and huff a laugh out. He watched nervously as his boy lifted a few feet off the ground, wobbling a little, and followed lead. He didn’t get too far but not too close either. Henri threw the quaffle at him and Alaric mustered all his strength, cheering.
And they did that for years. The boy always asking when he would be allowed to use a bludger. As they carried on Henri grew confident in his son’s abilities, the power Alaric had when connection was made was exhilarating and the older man had to duck countless times to avoid being decapitated — not literally. Finally when he returned from his first year at Durmstrang, Henri believed he was ready. Alaric hopped onto his broom and floated to the skies, grinning as the bludger whipped around. He held the bat in his hands and didn’t take interest as his father glided into the air. He looked at the bludger with a mischievous grin. Gripped the bat as tight as he could, swinging his wrist around to get loose, then bosh.
He sent it hurtling to his dad and it clipped his broom, sending him hurling as it ripped through the wood, “Woaaah,” Henri called as the broom stopped working. He accio’d a spare broom that was at the ground so he didn’t get hurt on his trip south and managed to successfully switch over. “That was a hit and a half!” he hollered to Alaric, the boy looking shocked at what had transpired. “I think you will make an excellent beater one day, son. I do,” he said. Alaric didn’t even think he hit it that hard!
