Reminder for Graduation

On July 1 the players are graduating to year 2. While most players want to graduate, we do have the occasional exception that wants to play-out their first year fully. If you wish to graduate on July 1 you will need to register your character with Index. This involves creating an encyclopedia page for your character following these steps. If you do not wish to graduate you can either delay your registration or you can contact your head of house (depending on which house you are sorted into) and let them know that you wish to remain a first year.

By remaining a first year, you will want to forward-date your threads (we work on real time) to September. I caution against forward dating in general because you may end up excluding yourself from other threads because they will contradict with what you have already forward dated. That said, it is your prerogative. We normally only allow players to forward date up to 1 month, however during the summer months we allow players the ability to forward date to next Sept.

In the summer we also offer summer camp [mor info to soon follow]. Even if you choose to start your first year this coming Sept. your character can attend the summer camp in character and participate in activities (even as a pre first year). We simply claim that your parents let you get a little head start on socializing at Hogwarts. The summer camp activities this year will be taking place in London. This is entirely up to you.

Because there is a time crunch for creating an encyclopedia, I also recommend the Mentor Program to get started.

Please Do Not Multi-Account

On this day I banned another long-term, tenured, and loved user from the community for multi-accounting. A choice that was difficult for the staff to make due to the fact that the user was popular and was a boon to the community in so many ways. However, in spite of our desire to come up with a different punishment or to simply 'look the other way' because "they were a good person" or "they were young" we were not able to bring ourselves to do this because the only reason in truth for why they would not have been banned as others have in the past would be because of favoritism. It would have invalidated previous bans we have enacted for the same action or lesser actions by other members that remain banned to this day.

A response we may get from some is -- "I have been caught multi-accounting in the past and I am still here." Yes, there are some members who have been caught and stopped before they traded galleons with themselves, made roleplays and developed a personality and relationship with other users. Their tenure a matter of hours or days.

I am not going to say names, in general we do not announce names with very rare and extreme exception but due to their popularity their absence will be noted rather quickly. I am sorry to the community for your loss. However I am going to link their multi because their multi which was found yesterday inadvertently, Daemon Cross was said to be ill and hospitalized [Link]. This is untrue because that user was active until the time of this ban and engaged with the community on their other account. The claim of their hospitalization was likely a farce because they were no longer maintaining an active presence on the account and your worry was for naught, I apologize in their stead for any distress or mourning you might have experienced on their behalf.

This event did bring to light a process that will be henceforth changing in regards to deactivations. In the past deactivation requests were something that was quietly sent to an admin with their new account named stated. while we never promised confidentiality there were members that have used this to their advantage as a means by which they could 'start fresh' which sounds good in theory but is not good in practice. When someone starts 'fresh,' they do not start on a even playing ground. They know members but the members do not know them. From this position of unfair advantage they are able to initiate a 'new' relationship with members without them ever knowing that they knew the person in the past.

The Deactivation/Deletion thread is being moved to the Technical Support Forum where users can request deactivations. This will serve as a papertrail for others, player and staff, of your transition to a new account. As for those who have previously asked for a new account or been deactivated, your name will be archived for the sake of papertrails.

Upcoming Announcements and Graduation

Head's up to everyone - tomorrow is July 1st (maybe even today for some people)! That means graduation, yay! But please keep in mind that this is a manual process - it may take the Heads of House a few days to start/finish. Some houses may be graduated before/after others because of our schedules. Please do not panic when you see someone else has been moved up but you haven't. That said, you can apply for graduation stats and spells when your specific profile title says that you have yeared up.

Over the next few days/week there will be several site and discord announcements regarding summer camp, OWLs/NEWTs, and other end-of-year related topics. Please hold your questions on these topics until after the relevant announcements have been made.

Ravenclaw Top House For The Year

While this is not something we technically track, it is worthy of note. Ravenclaw has earned the most house points this past school year (Sept through June), earning a total of 9406 house points! They had earned the most consecutive house wins this past school year, but Gryffindor came in a close second having earned 8151 house points. While they might not have won many of the months this past year, they consistently earned well and really blew everyone away this past month. This was followed by Slytherin with 7970 and finally Hufflepuff with 7954.

Some might ask, what about those summer months! Well, I added that up too! Ravenclaw maintains the lead with a whopping 10626 house points, but the other three houses were right behind them and all had very close totals. Gryffindor with 9797, Slytherin with 9617 and Hufflepuff with 9505. Great job all of you!

There is no prizes or anything for this officially, but this is something worth celebrating. Every house did very well this past year!

Registration to Index

It is July 1 in every time zone by a few hours. If you have not applied your first year character to Index then when you do apply them to Index it will be for the First Year. We require all members to apply to Index Index before July. For those that have already registered to Index we ask that you complete your edits ASAP. We are not holding you back because you are waiting on someone but please be responsible and prompt in making your edits. Index will close open apps that have had no communication for over 30 days.

This also applies to users in upper years who have to re-index, if you are not registered with Index, hopefully you re-registered. You need to be registered to move up a year, something we have been reminding the community of since the start of June. If you have not moved up a year but your application for re-Index is still waiting approval, once you are approved you will be able to move up a year. If you have not reapplied for Index and you are not registered with Index, then you will be repeating the year. For those that have already applied for re-registered to Index we ask that you complete your edits ASAP. We are not holding you back because you are waiting on someone but please be responsible and prompt in making your edits. Index will close open apps that have had no communication for over 30 days.

The most effective way of completing this process is to message the Index member working on your application once you have made your edits. This shows a papertrail that you have been making edits and are actively trying if you have a complex application. This will also notify the staff that you are done. While you cannot see it, we soft delete posts so we can see dozens/hundreds of pages and your application is one of many. It is unlikely we will notice these changes independently so please communicate.

Summer Camp 2022
As you have been anxiously anticipating, we are pleased to announce that Summer Camp 2022 is now LIVE!

Who: Hogwarts and International Students
What: Summer Camp
Where: London Quidditch Stadium and Grounds
When: (IC) August 1st-31st

In order to give you all as much time as possible to enjoy the various events, we are (per tradition) opening the RP threads and event sign-ups early. Each one has a specific IC date as indicated on the itinerary for those who are eager to keep their personal timelines organized.

Instead of cabins, we are returning to tents. In something of a combination of how it has been done in past years, students will sign up with their preferred groups for a specific tent to a maximum size of 10. Sign-ups will remain open throughout the camp.

As usual, while you will be forward-dating your posts to take place during the camp dates, we strongly advise against forward dating into September as we cannot guarentee there won't be additional events that transpire in the early days of September that may conflict with your planned threads. So keep this in mind if you choose to do so.

Summer Games: Broom Racing

The Summer Games are on for the Summer of 2022. In this international display of skill we have representation from every school.

The in-character (IC) date of the game will be Aug 20 from 0900 to 1500, the match ending by 1600 IC. Out of Character (OC) we will start moderation and game-play for this game on July 20. This means stats lock on July 20, so any gains must be added to your trunk and approved by Index before July 20. Actions close by the end of July 25. Members have access to these threads starting today (linked below). There are great opportunities to develop your character and subsequent rivalries between your characters and schools as well as alliances. You can technically post more than once in a round, this wont effect your rolls in any way but is a great chance to add banter/interest to your experience.

The Matches
  • Slytherin v. Ravenclaw Race 0900-1000 [Link]
  • Hufflepuff v Gryffindor Race 1100-1200 [Link]
  • Ilvermorny v Koldovstoretz & Beauxbatons Race 1300-1400 [Link]
  • Durmstrang v Mahoutokoro & Beauxxbatons Race 1500-1600 [Link]
You will notice that Hogwarts is not racing against the other schools at this time. This is because they are still in the midst of their second race for the year. Due to moderation delays they need to finish their third race of the year. There may be members that are not attending Summer Camp in character but are in-character eligible to participate in the third Hogwarts game. We are allowing these members to show up and participate because the fact that the third annual match being delayed into the summer is no fault of theirs and this is for the sake of 'fairness' to them. This is not extended to other iNPC schools or other sports as they are playing their summer game. This is a rare exception. They are in-character being brought to the school (if they want) by an undefined staff member for the race, so they are here for their race and only their race and then they go back home or to wherever they are for the summer.

We also have Spectator Threads. Spectator Threads are threads where players can watch the races. There is no active moderation of the spectator thread(s). A spectator thread allows a spectator to spectate (or view) the other thread, but it is like watching a movie, you are not able to interfere or interface with the race thread(s) that you are watching. These spectator threads are great opportunities for character development and storylines. You can develop your rivalries with other schools, attempt to 'acquire information' or even cheer your teammates on in character.

Spectator Threads

  • Durmstrang v Mahoutokoro & Beaauxbatons Broom Racing 1500-1600 [Link]
The above links have been edited into the Summer Camp Event post for ease. [Link]

Players can start to utilize these thread(s) at any time.

Attention Racers: You will notice that you have been given locker room access as a subforum in Hogwarts in the Outdoor Club Area as well as new discord access to a temporary channel for discussion and plotting for your Broom Racing Activity. Please be aware that these channels exist for the purpose of being repurposed in the future for other concurrent activities so keep that in mind.
______________

Note: Players that are participating in multiple sports over the summer can only earn (1) house point during the summer games.
______________

Broom Racers should have access to a Discord Channel for their team so they can discuss their plans. If you do not have access to our Discord Channel and are on one of the broom racing teams you are encouraged (but not required) to join. You can learn more about our Discord [Here].

Broom Racers should have access to a Locker Room for their team. This is a fine (but slower) alternative to Discord.

These are considered to be temporary channels and forums, so please keep this in mind because the forum area/channel will likely be repurposed at a future date for other activities.

Summer Games: Quidditch

The Summer Games are on for the Summer of 2022. In this international display of skill we have representation from every school.

  • Ilvermorny v Mahoutokoro & Beauxbatons 1300-1600 [Link]
You will notice that the schools have been combined, this is so that we can have full teams to play over the summer. Some of the schools will be given NPCs (they will be statted) that will be played by a member of their team in terms of roleplay (more information to follow). There may also be a team that has too many players. So that we can give everyone interested a chance to play, we are opening third strings to let them have a chance to participate. (More information to follow regarding this.)

Site Rating Clarification

We do not allow animal torture on this site. I used the word 'torture' purposefully because people can take the word 'abuse' to mean too many things but in general if you are abusing your pet (starving it, hitting it, etc) that still falls under this umbrella.

So, why don't I just say 'abuse'? Because it is too vague of a term because people can say 'yelling' at something is abusive, you being the sort of person I do not want to read about and swatting them away not too kindly in a tantrum... this stuff would be construed to be 'abusive' by some people and is not our intention nor is it against the rules. What is against the rules is purposefully causing harm through neglect or active mistreatment.
