It was early in the day, the quidditch match of the day was about to start. They did not pick a good day for it, it had been raining all morning and the weather had only worsened as the day went on. The drizzle became a violent storm with heavy winds and rain. Flashes of light highlighted a roiling heavens. This was going to be a full day of quidditch. The first match had already completed, the injured were already treated by the medical staff and they were already back on their feet in spite of some (assumed) gruesome injuries. The final match of the day (this one) was supposed to be between Ilvermorny & Castelobruxo and Mahoutokoro & Beauxbatons. There were a lot of emotions wrapped up in this match, Ilvermony had made enemies of Mahotokoro already and their ego was rubbing some of the other schools the wrong way also. In addendum, this would be the first time two champions for the upcoming Hexwizard Tournament would be facing off against one another. Mahoutokoro's young champion Aryaan Shamsi (played by Hui Ming) was only a second year and was the first string Seeker for his team as well as the chosen for his school. Miles Thatcher (played by Simon Kincaid) was another Hexwizard champion for Illvermorny was a first-string Beater. This was a chance for both of them to prove their station as champions in the upcoming Hexwizard Tournament.

School pride filled the stands. Some were just there to observe the competition for the upcoming Hexwizard Tournament while others were there to cheer their friends, family and school on. Some students waved little flags, others got artistic and drew something on their umbrella in hopes that their team (or their competition) would see what they had to say.

If there was one thing that Greta had vowed not to miss, it was the Quidditch games. And not just the one where Durmstrang would be playing. That was an obvious given, and she had enjoyed the earlier match alongside Yefim, cheering at the best of times, and sharing in the disappointment and referred pain of her peers at the worst.

But it wasn't the only game of import that day. After a brief repose to settle the ravenous growling of her hunger, Greta was back, this time to support another friend. She had practically ran to the pitch in her excitement. Last summer, there had been the opportunity to watch him race, but his performance had been off to an unfortunate start. This time, she hoped he would have a lot more fun. And if luck and skill were on the side of his team, perhaps even a chance for victory. It would be the battle of the continents. The Americas versus Eurasia. Quite exciting, really.

The only thing was, she wanted to be able to make better on what she had tried to do last year. The ribbon she had given clearly hadn't been at all lucky. It was almost as though she had to prove—to herself if nothing more—that she wasn't an unlucky charm. That she was worth more than the constant rejection and pushing away that she always seemed to receive. That she could be of value. If only she'd had this notion before and not on the way to the pitch.

Hands dove into her plethora of pockets in search of something—anything, really—that could be considered remotely giftable. A black feather... a few smooth rocks with quartz through them... a couple worthy skipping stones... a funny looking leaf that reminded her of Kongen's (Kongen is Russian for "the king") head... Pocket after pocket would be emptied into a hand before its contents would be shoved right back to its depths again, banished for being insufficiently enticing. Then finally, fingers brushed against something cold and hard. Confusion wrinkled her forehead as she withdrew the object, initially not actually sure what it was.

A key. It was an ornate, metal key that stared up at her from the soft cushion of her palm. Only then did she remember having found it partially obscured in the dirt somewhere in the camp one of the days she had arrived. She never had figured out what it was for; maybe one of the students had lost the key to their trunk. But it would do. Beaming, Greta kicked off in a run, hoping to get to Theo before headed into the locker room. From around her wrist, she pulled off a very thin string of leather, and fed a little loop of it into the eye of the key before pulling the loose ends through the loop to secure it in place.

"Theo!" The shout carried ahead of her, racing to meet the American before he disappeared beyond her reach. "THEO!"

Feet hammered on the compact earth as she raced to close the distance. Behind her, a thick ropey braid fluttered like a flag heralding her arrival. Now and then, she would thrust the key out ahead of her, as though he could possibly see that she had something for him, a plea unto itself for him to wait. Just a moment. And by the time she got to him, feet skidding and clumsily tripping to a jarring halt, she was doubled over, panting, face red with the sudden sprint of exertion.

"I have..." She breathed, pushing herself upright and holding the key out to him. "I have.. for you..." The words were disjointed more than usual for her, the struggle between breaths very real. "For luck... A key... For victory..."
* * *
Only after she had given him her impromptu gift would Greta make her way to the stands. Unlike earlier with Durmstrang, she had no elaborate flag to publicly display her allegiance. Nor did she really have one. It quickly became evident that this game would be composed of contributions from four different schools. Most of the faces were unknown to her. All of them, really. All but one. And it was for him that she jumped to her feet, fists thrown into the air with a bright smile on her face as he entered the pitch.

Roleplaying as Akira Shimizu from Mahoutokoro
Every time he set foot in the United Kingdom, the weather was atrocious. Why they even chose Hogwarts to host all these events, he truly didn't know. So, it was with a disgruntled sigh that he donned his navy raincoat over his shoulders, and left his tent with a trusty umbrella, cursing under his breath at the mud puddles that he passed, trying his best not to spatter mud on his pants and shoes.

Anyone looking at this Japanese boy would not be able to tell that he was off to spectate a quidditch match: He held no banners to cheer on his team; he did not wear an outfit sporting Mahoutokoro's signature red and white colors; nary a smile of excitement graced his lips. In truth: quidditch was not his cup of tea. How anyone would willingly participate in such a brutal sport was beyond his imagination. And the heights at which they flew... Akira shook his head, and continued to the benches.

Overall, he had an appreciation for sports, just not this one. He would resign to appreciate the tenacity of the players of the Mahoutokoro team, who so bravely represented his beloved school, and that was it.

He sat down at an empty seat, grateful for the length of his raincoat. Somehow, though, as the Mahoutokoro and Beauxbatons team flew out, he couldn't help feel a slight glow of pride. His eyes snapped to his friend, Hiro, who had asked him to come. As usual, the jovial boy seemed to be enjoying the limelight. Then, there was Shamsi-san, their young Champion with atrocious grades. He would only wish him luck and hope he didn't screw this up, since the outcome of this game rested upon his shoulders as Seeker. Next, there was Narumi, who he decided wasn't worth his time. There was also Yamamura-san, who he felt he could trust to do a good job. He also spotted Kohana-senpai, who looked ready to mercilessly obliterate the opposing team. Even though he did not identify with such delinquents, he couldn't help feel a smudge of satisfaction that his senpai was so willing to kill.

A small, young girl next to him cheered loudly as Ilvermorny entered the pitch, her energy very much overshadowing his own calm observation of the match before them. Wasn't this American girl cold? Didn't she feel the wet seeping into her bones, as agonizingly as he did? "Miss," he addressed her politely. "Would you like to share my umbrella?" he asked, gesturing it slightly towards her. "It's big enough for two to sit comfortably under," he offered. How did she not come fully and absolutely prepared? It wasn't really his business, he knew, but his own discomfort was somehow being projected onto how he saw her. It was like wishing you could do something to help when another family's baby was shrieking non-stop on the train. Not because you were nice, per se, but because you wanted the pain in your own ears to stop.

mentions both team’s players
As Maximilien "Maxi" de Fostoncy [x]
English · #586d9d | French · #056b68
August 6 approached in Maxi’s anticipation, the Quidditch game taking place that day taking his interest. Granted, Quidditch was not his favourite sport among the ones schools provided - he preferred duelling and broom racing himself - but Phyllis would be playing, and that’s another thing. He’d quite enjoy the game, actually, just seeing his Ilvermony friend flying around and blocking every possible goal the opponent chasers tried to score breezily. After all, as a friend there was no reason why he shouldn’t make his appearance and cheer for her on the stands. He was expecting a sunny day, but to his disappointment the weather that day had been gloomy since the morning, and when it came to the time of the game the drizzle became downpour. Maxi groaned inwardly for the bad weather while heading over to the stands.

Bad weather meant back luck to him. He was quite sure of it.

And so let’s give bad luck a little extra explanation - four schools in a game, that’s spectacular indeed, but unfortunately Beauxbatons was against Ilvermony. That was a little tricky, for as a Beauxbatoner he’d no doubt wish his school to win. Yet Phyllis’ playing against, and he’d love to see her shine bright on the pitch. But, if Phyllis could block every goal and Beauxbatons - Mahoutokoro taking in possession of the snitch…that sounded like fair. Maxi scratched his head with impatience while settling himself down in a corner, holding his umbrella tight. Gah. This howling storm was just annoying.

The players made their way into the stadium, most of them showing school pride and smiling with confidence. It didn’t take Maxi long to locate Phyllis’ silhouette, her trademark red hair distinguishing her out of a group of Ilvermony and Castelbruxo players. Dark grey eyes fixed on the little spot in the playfield, his fingers crossing when a lightning struck. “Best of luck!” Maxi would exclaim and wave to the players, hoping Phyllis might spot him in the crowd. Ilvermony’s headmaster Plott in the ruby-red cape sporting a broad grin appeared as the announcer - yet again, Maxi still remembered when he announced the champions for Hexwizard - and so they went off.

Off. To the sky and glory.

Ilvermony scored, some nimble girl taking the Quaffle in possession and scored against Mahoutokoro - Beauxbaton. Plott seemed quite thrilled with the result - Ilvermony pride, he exclaimed, and before Maxi could realise a Japanese chaser had tossed the Quaffle to Ilvermony & Castelbruxo’s hoop, which Phyllis was guarding. Maxi squinted just in time to see the red ball being ripped away by the auburn-haired girl, when the crowd started their roar in excitement. A grin climbed on Maxi’s cheek. “Oh, that’s brilliant, PHYLLIS!

Two more goals for the Americans and Brazilians, and his French schoolmate had finally had enough. A wonderful block in the fifth round, Maxi clapped along with his school’s supporters.

Ugh, bludgers. Maxi was nearly forgetting them, him being focused on the goals prior. Seeing three beaters nailing their bludgers towards Phyllis and two crashing into the girl, Maxi growled under his breath. He seldom played Quidditch himself - Beauxbatons was never known for their Quidditch team - but it must hurt, the metal nailing at you and crashing your bones. “Hold on,” he whispered, “you could do it.” Was the feeling like the whomping willow or the hard thorns which showed up on a racing track? Perhaps, but maybe even worse. He felt far better seeing that Phyllis managed to hold on her broom and continue the game, when he let out a breath.

Phyllis was indeed a skilled keeper, blocking two goals in a row again swiftly. Maxi watched her swirling in the air and knocking the red ball away from the hoop - it seemed quite an easy thing for her, the queen in the air defeating all intruders. He was starting to forget this cursed storm now, eyes focused on the pitch and scanning the players. Again the girl of his school took possession of the Quaffle - what’s her name again, Felix? - and she attacked with full aggressiveness, scoring for Mahoutokoro - Beauxbatons. “Fancy move indeed.” He mumbled in French. “But Phyllis’ almost undefeated in goal keeping so far.” Confirming to himself, in satisfaction he watched the Ilvermony girl swooping in and blocking the final goal this round, and he put his thumb up for her success.

Usually he didn’t care much about the snitch at the start of the game, locating and catching it in several minutes wasn’t something everybody could achieve. Beaters were someone who were fully engaged in games, but Maxi disliked those metal balls so much that he could feel his bones shudder only seeing someone getting hit by them. Chaser vs Keeper was the most interesting for him during a game, and Phyllis was no doubt talented - Keeper Stanwood, the MVP among keepers.

“Rarely can anything get past Phylicia the Wall!!” There came Plott’s thrilled exclamation, Maxi was able to identify the hyper in this headmaster’s voice. He was hyped for Phyllis’ success as well - four goals, four blocks. Wall. What an appropriate metaphor. “Well done, Phyllis!!” He exclaimed also, while his eyes fell on Ilvermony’s headmaster. Plott seemed really excited - but obviously his school’s team = his favourite team. Thought Maxi, while lowering his umbrella to keep himself from the heavy rain.

An iron ball flew towards his redhead friend and nailed her down her broom - “Watch out!” Maxi shouted the second he saw the bludger coming nearer even though he knew Phyllis possible couldn’t hear him, and gasped taking sight of her falling. His heart was beating fast, only to calm down a little seeing a teammate of hers catching her - how fortunate, he thought.

He didn’t have more chances to witness her spectacular moves though, LeRoy successfully caught the snitch co-riding with Felix, a talented seeker whom Maxi took pride of for his school. The game was concluded. Exactly like what he had hoped - his school winning, and Phyllis blocking every goal - well, she did miss one, but Felix really did a fancy move on that. “You did well.” He raised his head, as if Phyllis was listening to him. “My favourite - and the best player of the season.”

And so Maxi stood up and took his way back to the tent, considering when he could meet up with her and offer her all his compliments on her excellent goal-keeper skills. Oh, and he must mention how dazzling she looked on the Quidditch pitch. The goddess of the sky, the queen in control of the winds.
Maxi exits the thread.
