Campfire Camaraderie with @Rachel Greenford
Casey could tell this girl was really trying hard to make friends with him. As did everyone else he managed to escape from. Not that her efforts were in vain. Casey was just a quiet stiff with a lot of unfiltered baggage. Saying that though, he had to feel proud for being able to move a little bit past "small talk in an elevator" levels of socialising.
"Heh... Yeah, I'm American. Portland, Oregon since you're curious. And assuming you've put two and two together, I go to Ilvermorny."
It had been a while since he felt invested in talking about himself like this. It was hard to stop there. Giving in, he kept going, clearly chasing the social interaction a small part of him was clearly missing.
"Where I live, there's mountains nearby. My brother would take me hiking during weekends before I went to Ilvermorny. He taught me all kinds of things; how to climb, build up strength, being brave... All that stuff and things."
The more Casey talked, the more he could feel his bitter exterior melt into the blazing fire. It was almost symmetry - the fire in him was being smoldered by the one in front of him, lit by the ones who have drawn up this camp to bring people together. It was impossible to explain but Casey was finding a bizarre comfort from the feeling he was experiencing.
He talked about his mother's love for the Muggle world, how his potioneer father would let him try his concoctions and the strange stories that came from them, how his brother was simply amazing in every way, shape and form.
Casey was almost close to letting out a small laugh. When was the last time he talked at length about himself like this? He couldn't even remember. But it felt good.

Bonfire Night

As night fell over the magical s'winter camp, Aaron and Opeila were hand-in-hand walking towards the giant bonfire area. Eating s'mores and chatting by the fire sounded like a perfect, casual date night. The Hufflepuff had dressed in a pair of dark blue jeans and a crisp, plain black T-shirt. He was wearing a medium weight silver chain around his neck too; lately, he was trying his hand at accessorizing. As they entered the bonfire area, the lack of snow was definitely noticeable (and appreciated). Bonfires were a true summer experience, and Aaron was happy to have one.Interacting with: @Opeila Winters

"Wanna roast some marshmallows, then find somewhere to sit?" Aaron suggested. If Opeila agreed, they'd walk up to the humongous bonfire and spend some time choosing s'mores ingredients and collecting some marshmallows. Aaron carried a plate for them to put their finished creations, and eventually they had a stack of s'mores to enjoy. Of course he teased her and threatened to make a chocolatey mess a couple of times, but in the end, they came away from the fire unscathed. He cast a spell to enlarge the plate, turning it more into a tray, so they could also collect some hot cocoa and popcorn. As they were gathering these extra snacks, Aaron also snuck some firecrackers and sparklers into his pockets, to maybe "surprise" Opeila with later.
"By the fire, or do you wanna head towards the back for some privacy?"
A moment later, the two of them headed for the middle of the bonfire area. There was less light the further they got, and Aaron saw a tree that had grown into a seat shape. It looked beautiful, but not very comfy. "Hold this?" he requested, handing Opeila the tray of snacks while he picked up some cushions nearby. The Hufflepuff setup the cushions on the tree bench, ensuring a comfortable experience. The seat was large enough for them to lay if they wanted to. "After you, m'lady," Aaron said once the area was ready, offering a silly bow. He took the tray and set it on a convenient tree stump in front of their seat, so they could relax handsfree.
As he sat beside her, he took in their surroundings again. There were a lot of younger year children spread out in the area, but no one close enough to bother them. And a bit further from them was an area that he heard a faint scream come from. Scary stories. A grin appeared on his face at that. He remembered being super into scary stories a few years ago. Maybe he should regale Opeila with one.
"I brought some exploding snap cards if you want to play that," Aaron mentioned, fishing the deck of cards out of his other pocket and setting them down. "But snacks first?" he suggested, grabbing two of the s'mores and handing one to Opeila with a grin. "Cheers," he said, his brown eyes locking onto her green ones. In moments like this, he really felt like he could spend a lifetime getting lost in her eyes. That thought was a little too cheesy for him to say aloud, though.
Aaron is a Lovely Creature.Aaron has a Calming Presence. You are so incredibly beautiful, it is hard to take ones eyes off of you.Your presence simply puts others at ease, if it is your carefree personality or the trust others have in you, the result is still the same. Eli had found a place alone by the edge of the crowd that was forming around the bonfire, warming his hands on a cup of hot cocoa that he had acquired from the table at the side of the area that was free of ice and snow. Winter was his favourite season by far, there was so much potential for fun, frolics and plenty of time for misadventures but he did need a break from all the cold once in a while. Taking a sip of his cocoa and delighting in the warmth that shot through him inside and out, he took a look around at the gathered pupils. He recognised few, most of them being either younger or older than him and he doubted the older years would recognise him anyway. Running a hand self-consciously through his choppily done haircut he shifted awkwardly in his seat, suddenly becoming aware of just how sad he looked sitting there on his own when everyone else seemed to have someone to talk to.
Well not quite everyone. Upon a second scan of the crowd he noticed a girl staring into the flames that roared up before them all, taller than any bonfire he'd seen in the Muggle world. Not that he'd seen many, his parents had always been of the opinion that bonfires weren't quite safe for he and his sister to be around. Thinking back to himself as a whirlwind terror of a 9-year-old, Eli had to agree. Speaking to other boys - the delight that struck him when he thought the word "other" never ceased - still intimidated him, but he had been friends with enough girls to feel quite comfortable talking with them now. He rose from his spot, taking care to leave his cocoa somewhere that it wouldn't spill all over the cushions, and made his way over to sit beside her. She seemed young, younger than him and he flashed her a friendly smile, "Hi! I'm A-... I'm Eli!" He had only introduced himself to a handful of people using his new name before and he thought the thrill would never ever wear off, "How are you? Enjoying camp so far?"

The girl Reuben was speaking to was named Lorelai Diniz, from Castelobruxo. As he introduced her, Zophyr's friend would not stop stumbling over his words. It was somehow even harder not to laugh. Zophyr was beginning to get an idea of what these two's relationship was.
"You as well, Lorelai," they replied when she spoke to them, the grin not leaving their face. "And yes, can confirm, I am most definitely the more annoying one between us. For sure." The dripping sarcasm was hard to miss, but Zophyr couldn't help teasing their friend.
"So - what're you guys up to?" They paused, glancing at their popcorn. "You want some?" They were clearly third wheeling here, but way too curious to leave now. Was this just a two way crush, or had they started dating? If so, why was Reuben not telling Zophyr? Hm, actually, maybe there was a good reason for that. Zophyr already teased him enough.
They hoped the two wouldn't mind them staying. But who could say no to popcorn? They couldn't make Zophyr leave now that they had offered snacks.

Ren quite liked the cold, and the snow from the false winter was a welcoming change to what the boy knew was an annoyingly humid British summer; though, summers in the UK were always humid according to his British cousins, and from the few more recent years he had spent here during Mahoutokoro’s off time, he knew how bad they were from firsthand experience; at least Japan heat was bearable.
Still, despite his love of the colder seasons, the roaring flames from the bonfire worked well to remove the chill that had settled comfortably into his bones and warm his frozen fingertips hidden within the sleeves of his thick brown jumper.
His red eyes scanned the mottling of students that had gathered in the area.
He had been quietly following his tentmates, of whom he had left with earlier - that was ‘had’ as in the past tense - and it had taken him all of five minutes to lose sight of them once he had left the secluded safety of the Yule Log tent; though, it wasn’t like the two he had left with had known he was following them… He just didn't want to get lost, and sticking to someone he knew vaguely was better than being stuck with a bunch of strangers.
Of course, that was exactly what happened anyways; now he was just awkwardly standing off to the side alone; at least he had a good view of the bonfire.
There was a safe and sleepy sort of ambiance to the space, the amber glow of the roaring flames and the small orbs of soft hazy light above head illuminating the space with a warmth that was much needed amongst all the cold and frost; a large patch of which was now gone, leaving soft dewy grass in its place.
The bonfire was massive, much bigger than any the boy had ever seen, and seemingly charmed to display a myriad of shapes in its multi-coloured flames. There was a wide range of seating too: tacky looking muggle folding chairs, wooden benches, cushions of almost every colour, loveseats, huge sprawling blankets and charmed tree’s turned fancy looking armchairs. There was a sickly sweet smell to the air too; burnt marshmallows and chocolate; key ingredients to s'mores, and from where he was standing, Ren could also see stations set up for food and drinks.
The occasional ‘BANG’ punctured the ambient sound of the crackling fire and chatting students, as kids of various ages set off charmed firecrackers that exploded into a selection of different kaleidoscopic colours, mimicking dragons and other things as they soared overhead. Some students even had personal hand-held sparklers seemingly charmed to change colours with their mood; Ren found himself getting one of those rather quickly, the sparks changing a happy, but calming colour.
Near the edge of the event, in a darker corner where the tree-grown chairs resided, was a handful of the more macabre and eager-eyed students clustered together, competing to see who could tell the scariest story; Ren liked to imagine that if Qrowley had been here, thats where they would be sat, out where the lighting was dimmer, and the occasional delighted and undelighted screams could be heard over the noises that lay closer to himself.
He was ready to give up looking when he spotted them; sitting huddled together in a way that Ren had come to learn was just their thing, was Ruben and Lorlai… and Zophyr.
Wait…
ZOPHYR?
Varying shades of embarrassment and horror exploded from the sparkler clutched in his hand, creating an eye-catching display of spewing sparks as Ren desperately tried to think of what to do and where to go.
Why on earth was Zophyr here? And why were they talking to the only people Ren recognised.

Reuben noticed Lorelai blush while Reuben introduced her. He also noticed that Zophyr looked like he was about to burst out laughing, which made him join Lorelai in the blushing. Reuben definitely noticed the sarcasm in Zophyr's voice when they agreed that they were definitely the most annoying, but he had long learned to ignore his friend's sarcastic comments. "I'm glad we both agree on that."
Zophyr then proceeded to ask Lorelai and Reuben what they had been up to. "Well, we were going to talk to each other, but someone seemed to have interrupted that, so now we're talking to that someone.", he said in a teasing tone.
Zophyr then proceeded to offer popcorn, which Reuben could not for the life of him resist. "Some? I deserve all the popcorn for being such a good friend of yours, don't I?" Reuben had no shame in front of his friends, and he quickly proceeded to take a handful of popcorn from Zophyr and dumped it in his mouth. It tasted really good.
Reuben felt someone looking at him, and looked around. He quickly noticed his tentmate, Ren, looking quite lonely and in need of company. He seemed to have some kind of cracker with him which was changing colours and creating quite a show. "Hey Ren!" He waved at the other boy, grinning. "Come over!", he yelled. He did not want anyone to feel lonely or excluded and Ren looked quite lonely at the moment. He really hoped that Ren would come and join them.

Lucretcia didn't want to come to this camp. If she was being completely honest she didn't even really want to go to Hogwarts. Part of her had always wanted to go to her mother Alma Mater...and another part of her hoped she would be a Squib so she could just be left alone and go do her own thing somewhere. But, this is where she was now. She sat in her tent for a few moments longer, stewing in her own bad vibes before she finally decided she would atleast go out and see the bonfire. If nothing else it would be pretty to look at, and she did always enjoy the night sky.
She checked over her outfit one last time. A long sleeve shirt with a crescent moon runic design on the chest, black canvas pants and knee length black boots. She grabbed her long black coat and popped its collar before tussleing her shoulder length black hair some. the black eye liner and shadow around her eyes made the icy blue stand out even more, with the only real color of her outfit coming from the dark plum of her lipstick. If nothing else, how pale she was saved her a fortune on foundation to get the same effect. With a heavy sigh she slung her messenger bag over her shoulder and she stepped out of her tent into the night.
She looked around at the different people, some laughing and having fun, some making smores, most people taking advantage of the freedom that came from being away from their parents and at a camp. She almost turned around and retreated back into her tent but with a grimace she continued on. She found a place to sit, close enough to feel the fire but far enough away to not be in the thick of everything. Her main concern was staying at the edge of where the snow ended and the green began as the only thing that was able to even convince her to come to the camp at all was the winter theme, she didn't want to leave the comfort of the snow.
She cast another glance towards the congregation of students before she looked up at the night sky. She always loved the view from the countryside back home but the stars looked different hear, there was a cold beauty to the gleam of them and she felt a little better about her decision to come outside. The cold air helped, she had always loved the snow and the chill of winter. All the better to experience it during the summer.
While she watched the sky she pulled out her notebook and a sketching pencil and she began to sketch out the stars. The clouds, some of the orbs. This was a view she wanted to remember, and soon the world around her began to fade as she focused more on capturing the essence in her drawing.

With the fate of Kyra’s parents at such a young age, she did not like going back to her grandparents because it only brought back memories of those she cared for deeply. The emotions and everything that came with it, Kyra wanted to put it all behind them, which is why she loved the idea of summer camp at Hogwarts. She accepted gladly and even got sorted into such a beautiful tent with great people that knew how to have fun.
Hogwarts was home for Kyra now and she didn’t mind the occasional visit back home, but with everything the school had to offer she was certainly excited to stick around as long as possible. Lucky for her, tonight was the beginning of scary stories around the campfire and Kyra could not wait until she was able to hear how creative the others were with each of their stories. Something about the school’s dimmed lights in the background were making the scene even scarier than it should be, but it would set up some fun for all the students who joined.
Kyra was wearing Slytherin’s typical robes because she knew that it could get cold at night, so it was always best to be prepared for anything, which is why their wand was tucked away up the sleeve of their robe for protection purposes. When she finally strolled up to the campfire and saw several students already gathered around the fire, she couldn’t help but to smile the tiniest bit! It was an exciting experience to see so many people interested in stories that would give you nightmares before going to bed!
There were so many places to choose from to sit down, but the young girl didn’t want to interrupt any stories that were going on, so she found a spot in the back to sit next to others who happened to be listening to someone close by. Kyra wasn’t very social at all and had no interest to share any stories, but she was more than happy to listen to everyone else because it was interesting to hear what others thought were scary. She knew that feeling all too well, so Kyra kept that experience to herself for now.

Aston was hanging around the empty tent when he remembered the bonfire night, he has been looking forward to it for a few days now, fire and s'mores, just like the camping trips his father would take him on. Do most wizards even know about s'mores? Aston held on to that trail of thought as he dug through his bag for his pencils and sketchbook, and headed over to the fire.
Aston wore another one of his old clothes, a nine inch nails band t shirt and a pair of jeans, to the fire. He picked up a cup of hot cocoa and started searching for a place to sit. Not seeing any familiar faces Aston opted to see if someone he could make conversation with. The past year at Hogwarts has really helped with his whole "not knowing how to deal with people" thing.
Eventually Aston's eye got caught by a black haired girl sitting alone, sketching. Normally the slightly intimidating expression of the girl would have stopped Aston from talking to her but she was sketching, he was planning to sketch, She won't mind if I sit and sketch next to her right? Soon Aston stopped questioning himself and went to go sit next to the girl. "Hello, is it okay if I sit here and sketch? I'm Aston, a Hogwarts student." Aston said with a smile and a wave, standing waiting for the girl to -hopefully- say yes to his request.
