When Matilde’s mother, Freja O’Fionnagan, was a teenager, her family had a farm hand she knew from Hogwarts. Her name was Roisin, she was seventeen and about to begin her 7th year at Hogwarts. At the time, Freja had a neighbor Aine, who was also a witch.They could be described as frenemies. They were fourteen, and both had an enormous crush on Roisin. They didn’t know she was experimenting with the dark arts in the O’Fionnagan family barn. Freja had suspicions about Roisin on account of multiple visions about what she might be up to. She was doubtful about their true meaning at first, though, because she was just growing into her seer gift. When it was becoming too much to ignore, the two girls went to confront her. Roisin cursed them both with one of her experimental curses. They spent the rest of the summer up until the beginning of October in St. Mungos, healing what they could and trying to figure out a cure. Nothing worked permanently, but a potion was developed that gave them the ability to live mostly normally. They bonded over this, and became best friends. Aine got sicker after a while, weakened by almost constant other illnesses in her early twenties and maybe by her many childbirths. When it didn’t seem as if Aine was getting any better, Freja started learning as much about potions and defense against the dark arts, trying to find the cure that no one else could. Aine was the sickest after the birth of her fifth child, and she died barely three weeks after she was born. Matilde and Phelan, Aine’s oldest child, were told that Aine had been cursed in her youth, but with little detail. Matilde was best friends with Phelan and very close with the whole family, but she didn’t know that her mother was cursed as well.

Eventual outcome: Over the summer between third and fourth year, Matilde has an injury and has to go to St. Mungos. While there, she sees her mother speaking to a wizard who works there, Aine's brother, who she knows is one of her mother’s closest friends. He gives her a potion. Later Matilde asks about it, but her mother refuses to tell her anything. Over the summer she has noticed her mother acting suspicious a number of times. She has to go back to school before she can make her mother tell her what’s going on, but she devotes the first part of the school year to figuring it out herself. She eventually does. I think maybe her mother will die when Matilde is in her sixth or seventh year, but I’m not sure yet. Note: I also want Aine’s son Phelan to be my future iNPC so this will be partly his backstory as well.

While Fioria Crane grew up relatively freely in comparison to many of her pureblood peers, she also was expected to carry on the tradition, marry another pureblood and continue the line. It so happened, that the heiress of the Crane family and carrier of their seer gene found herself in an arrangement with another family that quite valued both blood and the gene she was carrying- the Chiadovinis.
Fioria and Leonardo went to school together and were expected to marry after, which neither of them felt too enthusiastic about. This plan was prevented by Fioria falling for Leopold Ravensburg, supported by Leonardo, for whom Fioria had no romantic feelings but who she considered a friend at that point. Valuing their daughter's happiness greatly, the Cranes ended the arrangement, allowing Fioria to pursue who she believed to be her true love and soulmate.

Reason for Reapplication: Verification of @Opeila Winter's Connection

Rather put off by being forced into an arranged marriage--for he had held much resentment for his own family's tarnished and skeleton-filled history for years since discovering those remnants--Leonardo had made a vow to himself to be the last to suffer from the Chiadovini claws and its mad heritage that brought nothing but pain and curses to its progeny with every generation. Clever and tactful in prose and in political subterfuge as he was not only a quick teach but also an insightful young man, Leonardo subtly puppeteered little 'incidents' here and there, slowly poisoning the once perfectly healthy engagement between himself and Miss Crane and eventually resulting in the breaking off of the arrangement with a gracefulness on the Cranes' side towards their daughter and much ire from the Chiadovinis directed towards Leonardo himself. He knew full well why they had been arranged, after all... and he also had the eyes and the wit enough to tell with little difficulty when Fioria Crane's eyes fell with true interest and passion on someone else other than him--a little to no surprise to him, truth be told.

Though he would never confess it aloud, perhaps there was enough sympathy--unusual compassion, perhaps?--for the young woman that it gave the Chiadovini heir yet another incentive to kill the engagement early and quickly. Not only to snide his father, his lineage... but to ensure the happiness of another, to ensure that at least her dreams could be fulfilled, those romantic and elusive dreams of true love that Leonardo held stern and solemn belief could never be realized in his own life for himself and his 'happiness'.

It was easy, and he felt no regrets. From that disastrous breaking-off, Ricardo Benvolio never tried to arrange his son with another family... he was insightful enough to know when another chess player had set themselves up to play the board in challenge against a grandmaster. He would bide his time; his opprobrious son Leonardo had merely taken the foolish opportunity to move his first white pawn without considering the endgame that would demand the ultimate price from him much farther down the road than his young eyes could currently see.

Reason given: During Kage's third year, his mother fell incredibly ill from the stress of her work and he decided to take the year off to take care of her and continue his schooling the next year. Unlike most kids, he wasn't too happy about missing a year of school, but his mother was his only family in England, and well, you gotta do what you gotta do. Thanks to his and a close family friend's work, his mother was able to make a slow but steady recovery and by the end of his third year (or what should've been his third year), had made a full recovery.
