Quidditch Rule Clarification

This post is being made to provide some clarification on the 2nd String move 'Strategize' as the wording has been previously noted to be confusing. It was modded during the Spring games as the 'combined' stats being averaged when the intent, with the high DC, was that it originally should be the stats added together. The update between the Spring and Summer games was not able to be posted, so this is the clarification post for the Summer games that Strategize will be the stats added together as was voted upon by the captain team for these matches.

This was meant to be posted pre-Fall Games but was missed due to an oversight. We hope this does not negatively impact any strategising that has already occurred, and we apologise for any inconvenience!

Sadly Raizel has stepped down as Gryffindor Duelling Co-Captain and we’re thankful for the time they’ve been on the team.

This means there is an open position, so we are looking for another engaged and reliable member to fill this role. Someone who is invested in the future development of the sport.

As a captain, you will have to:

• Moderate Duelling matches
• Help with strategy, team discussions, roster updates, and action submissions
• Contribute to the further development of the Duelling system

• This is a moderator-level position and comes with a certain level of responsibility but also privilege
• There's also some compensation

Note that you do not have to be an active member of the Gryffindor Duelling team to apply!

Please note that after sending in this application you will have to complete a short test to show you are proficient with the Duelling system and can do basic math. This is necessary to ensure you will be able to moderate a match.

There is no deadline for applications; however once we receive a passing test from at least one user, then we will announce we are closing applications in 1 week. Users will have the opportunity to apply until this new deadline and then be given 1 week after the deadline to complete and submit the moderation test. You are allowed to seek out assistance from other users and moderators, as we are assessing your ability to learn the system and ask questions as needed while moderating.

Fall 2025 Racing Patch

This patch includes:

• Spell Spread Clarifications
  Reducio

  Spell Spread - Can cast the same spell on two opponents if the second target is within 1 unit of the first. Both opponents must be within the range of the spell. Accuracy is decreased by -2, wisdom DC is increased by +2, and the critical failure range is increased by +1. Wisdom bonuses will apply only if the original opponent fits the requirements (eg. non-human enthusiast, only getting the +1 on the wisdom check if the first opponent is non-human).

• Updated version of the Broom Jinx
  Reducio

  • Incantation: Indomitus
    Range: 5 units
    Wisdom DC: 20
    Effect: Accuracy v Evasion to take effect. Caster's accuracy versus target's evasion. On a full hit, a strength check v arcane power to see if the rider is thrown off a contested strength (of the target) versus arcane power (of the caster) roll is made. The broom will buck for 5 rounds, the contested strength versus arcane power roll done each round until the player is either KOB or the spell wears off. The Gripping Charm and Epoximise give the rider a +1 to their attempt strength roll each. Where; the Lubricus charm gives the rider a -2 to their strength roll. [*]
    Critical Success: the duration is 7 rounds.
    Critical Failure: the caster's own broom is effected.
    Note: can be canceled by Finite Incantatem.
• A couple of brand new spells to the racing system!

  Incantation: Celare Palam
  Range: Self
  Wisdom DC: 18
  Contested Roll: N/A
  Effect:
  - You blend in to your surroundings, and if you are being targeted, your attackers must roll disadvantage on the accuracy roll.
  Critical Success: You blend in, and any attacks made against you are auto-failed.
  Critical Failure: You've made yourself stick out like a sore thumb, perhaps your clothes glow more vibrant or your hair is all glittery and is reflected in the sun. You roll disadvantage on attack rolls against you.
  Note: This can only be used once per match.

  Supersensory Charm | [Support] | [Flying Y6L3] | [Legal]
  Incantation: Meliores Sensi
  Range: 3 units
  Wisdom DC: 16
  Contested Roll: Caster Accuracy v Target Evasion (or if casting on self, no contesting roll needed)
  Effect: Grants the caster or the target of the spell +2 to the evasion roll for the upcoming [attacking] obstacle.
  Critical Success: +3 to the evasion roll
  Critical Failure: -3 to the target's evasion roll
