Calming Presence:
[reducio]With such a turbulent home life, Chiaki always longed for a sense of calm in her life, away from the shouts and yells of her seemingly always infuriated parents. Upon arriving at Mahoutokoro, she took it upon herself to never make anyone feel the way she did at home. Ever since she stepped foot in the school, knowing that she wouldn't be hearing her parents shouting and yelling, she felt instantly at ease.
When Chiaki started to make friends at Mahoutokoro, she portrayed a happy and bubbly, yet somewhat soothing or calming exterior so her brain would not stray to her parents' fighting. Each of Chiaki's friends reported that they instantly felt calmer when they were around her. Any anger or built up pressure beneath the surface of them was relieved when they would even be simply near her. This attracted many new friends to her. As she quickly befriended two Quidditch players and followed them around like a puppy to their practices, she would be reported to put the team at ease, epecially before a big match.
However, playing Quidditch was never much of Chiaki's interest. There was too much chaos, too many things happening at once. Broom racing was much more her style. There was only one clear objective, and that was to win. Even if that required a little bending of the rules. But before a race, they would never be so nervous as all the fliers that came before her would warn her about. Many would always around her before a race, trying to absorb some of the calm energy she released unknowingly. As soon as she would fly ahead, however, the calm they felt instantly begin to disappear.
However, it was only truly noticeable when Mahoutokoro was the host of a spectularly large fight between several students. Chiaki wasn't aware of the violence occuring in the grounds, so she observed through a window what all the fuss and bother was about. Instead, she was horrified by the brutal punches and kicks that were being thrown. However, as soon as she appeared in person, the fighting died down. Rage could still be seen in the fighters' eyes, but they were no longer fighting. And Chiaki had managed to stop it.
Everybody knew then that Chiaki's presence was... special. Something about the chaos and turbulence from her past meant that she was able to bring the sense of calm that was much needed by many students, and even some of the teachers on occasion.[/reducio]
Cat's Grace:
[reducio]Chiaki's ability to be stealthy came even before she was born. Her mother wasn't even aware she was pregnant with Chiaki until the second trimester, when she started showing symptoms. And then, even after birth, Chiaki had an innate ability to sneak around. She would regularly manage to escape the house when her parents were arguing, and arrive at her grandparents' via bus (that she had managed to sneak aboard). If her parents began to shout when she was in the room, she was easily able to sneak out (though due to the loud yelling it wasn't the most difficult).
After her grandparents' tragic passing in a car accident, Chiaki found that she was no longer able to escape to theirs when things became loud and violent at home. As a result, every time her parents fought for three weeks, she would climb from her bedroom window and run around her small seaside town, looking for a place to hide. And she managed to get pretty far several times. She could easily slip ino buildings or sites that she didn't realise she couldn't be in, and then be gone just as quickly before anybody noticed. Some of her favourite hiding spots were tucked away in overgrown corners of old or run down buildings that she had no business being in, but was also never caught in. There had been one occassion that she thought that she needed to run, but when the guards appraoched, somehow she managed to get away undetected. That was the closest she'd been to serious trouble, but it didn't stop her from returning to that spot.
This habit of sneaking about was just something that she couldn't shake when she arrived at Mahoutokoro. If noticed, people would comment how she skulked around like a cat in the background of almost every situation. Howeverhen she wasn't actively being her bubbly and cheerful self, she very easily blended into the background. Maybe it was because she was surprisingly short, or just wasn't the most noticeable when she wasn't speaking. This allowed her to get away with several midnight scrapes, especially when she would have her private midnight flying sessions with Hiro and Ayako and try to beat her own time of the fastest lap around the school on a broom. There was something soothing about the cold night air, and something thrilling about barely escaping serious trouble, whether it be at school or at the chaos which ought to be known as home.[/reducio]
Evasive Maneuvers:
[reducio]As Chiaki's third year at Mahoutokoro quickly approached, she had already gotten more involved with the school and its activities. Firstly, she'd managed to make her mark on the school's broom racing team, pushing her way forwards and making sure to further her abilities, especially when it came to ducking, weaving and dodging around objects as she pushed to fly at faster and faster speeds. Furthermore, she'd been working on bettering herself and abilities after the Hexwizard Tournament, realising just how out of her depth she had been when she had competed. Facing all of those older students had been absolutely terrifying, and she didn't enjoy feeling so unprepared.
Naturally stealthy and gifted with a feline-like ability to dodge and duck, it only took motivation and dedication for Chiaki to be able to improve her skills. On New Year, she made a promise to herself that by the end of the year, she would have worked on improving her abilities, especially when it came to dodging things, and that included people.
She'd use different exercises, employing her friends' help, such as having them throw pillows at her and have her dodge them, or tennis balls if she was on her broom. But that could only do so much. It wouldn't be the same as ducking branches or weaving through trees. So she made a schedule for herself, and pushed herself to stick to it. Every day, working on the smaller exercises, and twice a week, she would do a lap around the track. The repetition would help her, at least for now, with familiarising herself and allowing her prepare dodges and move out of the way, increasing her times as she shot around the racecourse.
At home during the holidays, she would also continue to work on this newfound talent that she was leaning into and continuously working to perfect. Slipping in and out, moving around things, she would work these exercises into her everyday routine, especially when she was just doing her standard chores. It allowed her to feel more accomplished as she worked on the menial tasks whilst her parents were out of the house.
Finally, she decided to test herself, to see if she was any closer to achieving her goal. She had her friends set up a course she could run through, setting a time in her head she wanted to complete it in. It began on the ground, to test her abilities normally, and then she would complete another on her broom, to make sure the abilities were evenly matched. Whilst her time wasn't as fast as she would've hoped, she had definitely improved, and her newly developed evasive skills were definitely something for her to be proud of. [/reducio]
Muggle Condition:
[reducio]Chiaki had always known her parents were both the sportier type of people, and they had often encouraged a healthy yet competitive spirit within her, which had led to quickly find sports at Mahoutokoro that she loved. However, it wasn't until they separated and she had begun going back and forth between their homes that she would truly realise the extent of this.

Her father had always been a bit of a sports fiend, and he had always encouraged Chiaki to play a sport, often regaling her with tales of his time as a competitive tennis player during his high school years. Whilst, as a muggle, he didn't fully understand the concept of wizarding world sports like broom racing or quidditch, he understood that she was competing, and that was enough for him to insist on keeping her skills sharp.

Every other day on the weeks she would stay with her father, he would drag her out to the public tennis courts at 8am sharp and make her play tennis with him. They'd always start out with simple exercises to test her accuracy, like trying to hit a tennis ball at a target, before moving on to playing an actual game. As much as she'd always grumble about the early morning starts, especially during her school holidays, she grew to enjoy the matches and treasured the time before it was over. The first time she had to switch to her mother's, her dad had only one request of her - to ensure she kept up her training, and she promised to do her very best to uphold that ask.

At her mother's house, Chiaki wasn't exactly sure how she was going to be able to keep up her promise to her father, but her problem luckily found a fairly easy solution through her mother, who had, after the divorce, seemingly taken an interest in the sport of archery. Whilst her mother would visit the local archery range, she would use the time to sneak out to local tennis courts and set up her own drills to keep up her abilities that she had carefully honed. It wasn't long before Chiaki's mother caught wind of this, however, and thus decided to bring her along to the range to pass along her newfound love of archery. Initially, archery was not one her strong suits, however after a year of practise when staying with her mother, Chiaki found that she had only gotten better with her aim, and, even more helpfully, these accuracy skills were transferable to her tennis matches with her father and for her sport at school.

The past year, when not at Mahoutokoro, Chiaki only found her fondness for muggle sports growing and growing as she spent more time at the tennis courts and the archery range, honing these newfound skills she had developed. Whilst they were not perfect just yet, she was confident in her abilities, and knew that this would all prove worth it in the end.[/reducio]

Sixth Sense (450 words):
[reducio]Before Mateo had received his first instance of magic, the young Japanese boy was somewhat able to sense, or see things, that other's couldn't, but he never noticed this at first. The only time he did notice was while he was flying one day. He was 6 at the time, so a year after he had received his first instance of magic, and well, while he was flying, on a spare broom that he had at home, he heard some people shouting, probably from playing Quidditch, and before one of them told him to look out, he had successfully avoided getting hit.

It shocked him quite a bit, so after he went home from his little flying adventure, he told his parents, who were as shocked as he was, but told him that there was nothing he needed to worry about, because, well, he was kind of worrying that there was something happening with him, even though he's a pureblood.

At the time, Mateo also had a few friends who had also all gotten their first instances of magic, around the same time as he did, so he decided to tell them about it, but like his parents, they were also shocked, but told him that it'll be a good thing.

Another time when this sensing thingy happened, was when he was walking home from hanging out with his friends one day. They had decided to go look at the Cherry Blossom trees, since they had just blossomed, and Mateo was 9 at this time.

While he was walking home, Mateo wasn't exactly checking his surroundings, since he thought it was a quite street that he was walking along, but sadly, someone had seen him, and they decided to follow him, so he started running, as fast as he could, before the person was even close enough to make their presence known, but Mateo didn't think that this one was weird, he just thought he was lucky enough not to get kidnapped and was also lucky with what his parents had taught him to do if he were walking home alone, so he decided it'd be best to fly home from now on.

Lucky for him, whenever he flew home, nothing happened, but one day he was playing in his backyard, and well, he had threw a ball too high and it had went over the fence, so he went to go get it by climbing over the fence, and after he had gotten the ball, as he was about to climb over the fence again, he felt a strange feeling, like as if someone was watching him, but decided to shrug it off, but someone indeed was watching him.[/reducio]

Chasers Interception (444 words):
[reducio]Mateo always had a passion for Quidditch, and as he'll be starting his second year at Mahoutokoro, he still has a huge passion for the sport. Most people think it's because his parents are professional Quidditch players, but Mateo's passion isn't from the fact that his parents are professional Quidditch players, it's because, ever since he saw a game live, he's loved it ever since.

Mateo was around the age of four when he had seen his first game, at the London Quidditch Stadium. Ever since then, he knew he wanted to become a professional Quidditch player, and he wanted to be a chaser.

The game that he watched was the best quidditch game he had ever watched in his life before. He, noticing the chasers’ moves the most, found out that they were all using Firebolts, a well-known broom that is known for its speed. Knowing a little about quidditch himself from the endless talking about it from his parents, he was thrilled when he saw it and asked his parents whether they could teach him quidditch and how to fly. His parents, seeing how much their son had longed for that, promised that they could. Ever since then, his parents taught him Quidditch, and how to fly.

One day, when his parents were lazing around a park near their home, Mateo suddenly said something that his parents had almost forgotten - the promise of teaching him how to play chaser in quidditch! Apologising quickly to their son, they took out a few brooms and taught their son, step by step, how to play chaser. Quite soon, their talented son had gotten the hang of it, and was able to score a few goals, with his parents doing their part as keeper. "Well done!" his parents told him as the sun had started to set. "Let’s get back into the house. We sure are proud of you to be able to play quidditch at such an early stage of learning!"

Patting his son on his head, the Mateo’s parents looked at him. "Looks like there’s something good here!" they said happily, with a light of triumph on their eyes, which were twinkling merrily. “Look, our Mateo’s getting really good at quidditch!” Mateo’s parents smiled, looking at their son proudly.

After this event of quidditch, Mateo started to adore this sport, and as a result, ended up practicing much more than he normally would. Who knows, by the end of his tremendously hard work, what would pay off? Therefore, Mateo decided to work harder on his quidditch skills, as he has a desire to become a professional Quidditch player in the position of Chaser.[/reducio]

Evasive Maneuvers
[reducio]From an early age, Tone had always been quite agile on his feet and possessed instincts that allowed him to evade things that were going to physically hurt him. Even though he might have been fearless around most people, he still had a sense of danger and possessed survival instincts. If it was just something like a flick on the forehead or a nudge, he'd allow it to happen. But if it seemed as if it would leave some lasting damage, or worse, Tone's body would instinctively avoid, evade or dodge it. This was not intentional on his part, it was just something he considered to be a natural instinct of his. It also came in handy when he bothered people, trying to get them to become his friends. They might lash out or 'attack' him. Obviously, he'd try and avoid them. Most of the time he was successful due to his great reflexes.

Tone's interest in flying had taken form back then too. He'd ended up finding out that he was actually pretty good at it when one of his friends had let him take their broom for a spin. Maybe because of these two things (his reflexes and being good at flying), he'd been drawn to quidditch in the first place. Sure, he'd never played for a professional league before, but that was to be expected as he'd been a child at the time. A young one at that, as it had been before he was considered to be a first year at Mahoutokoro. But the moment he'd stepped foot onto the quidditch pitch and risen up into the air, he'd known this was his destiny. During the tryout he'd been able to evade his opponents almost every time they came at him. Somehow, he seemed to always manage to dodge at just the right moment before something or someone came close to hitting him. Many marveled at this skill or luck of his, as it happened more often for him than it did for everyone else. He even managed to evade 9/10 of the practice bludgers that were hit towards him by his opponents. Apparently, it was something that was rarely able to be done by quidditch players when they first started out. But Tone seemed to have no trouble doing so, which impressed the ones in charge.

After finding out that his evasion skills were actually better than most people, nothing really changed for him. Many might have tried to take advantage of this skill and use it for ulterior purposes. But Tone continued to go about his daily life, trying to make friends everywhere he went and only used his evasion skills for simple purposes. Such as avoiding any 'attacks' sent his way and applying the skill in quidditch, whenever he could find enough people to play it with him. One thing was for sure though, Tone was glad he had such skills because they definitely came in handy in both quidditch and going after people who seemed as if they didn't want to be friends or talk to anyone. But Tone knew better. Most of the time he was able to convince people to become friends with him. It was just that sometimes it took longer for some people than with others. He'd never really lost any of his 'targets' before and never intended on doing so. If he had to increase his evasion skills to continue his success rate, that was what he would do.

Word Count: 583
[/reducio]
Statistically Relevant (+2 ACC)
[reducio]From an early age, Tone had always loved quidditch, it was one of the few things that could make him smile and give him some measure of true happiness. He tended to spend all his time perfecting his skills in the sport until there was no room for error. But even then, he didn't tend to stop practicing and honing his skills. After all, practice makes perfect, right? From the moment he was accepted into Mahoutokoro, he'd immediately checked out the quidditch pitch. Even on a school broom, Tone's skills on a broom couldn't be overlooked and soon he'd had the higher years and even the teachers take notice. It was only a matter of time before he was asked to be part of the quidditch team. Shortly after he'd been put on the roster of the second string, he'd continued to train and practice with every waking moment that he wasn't in class.

It was only a matter of time before he was promoted from the second string to the first string and became a starter for the school's team. But even after multiple victories, he didn't get complacent and continued to train, practice and hone his skills. Until one day, he lost because he couldn't avoid all the attacks that came at him and couldn't contribute to the team because his own attacks kept missing their mark. It hit him like a ton of bricks and he became determined to rectify these mistakes. Deciding to work on his accuracy first, since that was the most important, Tone ended up training on his own with bludgers and specific targets. Soon, he became aware that just doing it by himself wasn't going anywhere. He needed someone else.

So he ended up dragging one of his many friends into practicing with him, using them to help him improve his accuracy. Eventually, with all his hard work, Tone was able to increase his accuracy little by little. And then his second year started and he became way busier with classes, clubs and other events. But still, he managed to set aside a lot of time to train and hone his skills in quidditch. As time passed, he became even better than he'd been before but that much should have been obvious. If you had skill in something and poured in the time and effort to get better at it, eventually you would get better. It only stood to reason. Sure, during the process of getting better at his accuracy, Tone had gotten numerous bruises and broken bones. Maybe he'd even passed out too. But what mattered was that in the end, he was able to increase his accuracy and hopefully end up being of more use in an actual game. If devoting all this time and effort into improving a single stat worked in the next game, he'd focus on his evasion next time.

He'd gotten hit way too much in the last game he'd participated in before.

The girl grew up with brothers you see. Whether it was to steal her food or things, she would always know. Kanae was always quite an observatory and her instincts were better than most people's. She can't always blame it on her brothers but she can somehow feel the hair on her arm stick up when she feels something strange.

It's not just that when somebody steals her food, she always notices when something was about to hit her, for example, that one time when her neighbour's baseball went through her house's window. She was sitting in the living room with the big window in front of her, she liked looking through it and observing the trees and giving little glances to the corner where she could see her neighbour's yard. Not like she knew that there was a ball about to break through it, Kanae just felt the need to get out of the way, her gut feeling told her so.

Kanae also had quick reflexes, which contributed to her killer instincts. Not like you could get out of the way of something just because you noticed it, you had to be quick too.

One time, she was cycling around her hometown like she usually did in the mornings. The cycling session started out normal. The summer breeze was hitting her face, a few of the people in her neighborhood waved at her, and it was peaceful. Until another cycler from the other direction was about to collide with her! She noticed it in time and stopped. It was honestly a miracle, the other person was about 2 meters away from her when she stopped. If Kanae hadn't stopped first, she would've hit someone. The other person wasn't paying attention apparently and hadn't stopped until Kanae scolded them as they were approaching the girl who already stopped. She was also pretty flexible, so she could move her body in ways she can evade things a bit more quicker and sometimes in unexpected ways.

Another instance was when Kanae was watching her muggle mother mend her car. Since she still had a muggle job and had to get around somehow. When her mother was getting something from a shelf on top of her from the garage, a toolbox fell. The girl was looking up at her mother getting something she needed from said toolbox but as she was getting something from inside of it, it slipped off the shelf. Kanae swiftly moved out of the way as the toolbox fell to the floor. Afterwards, she helped her mother pick up the tools that fell with it.

Her quick reflexes and instincts were one of the reasons she joined the broom racing team until she switched to the Quidditch team because the broom racing team was rather empty and she wanted to play more as a team.

[reducio]When Botan was five years old, he and his cousin Akihiko were outside, playing in the mud and his grandparents were watching him. Akihiko was trying to make the perfect pie, and Botan had challenged him to do so. Botan used mud and worms, lining the bottom with mud, adding a layer of worms, which he had found. Then he added a big scoop of mud on top, and called it finished. A few minutes later, Akihiko finished making his pie, which was an amazing pie that almost looked like a professional chef had made it. If pie’s were made of mud.

Botan asked his grandparents which one they liked, and they looked at eachother and told him that “they are both beautiful!” Botan was hesitant, but when Akihiko announced that he liked Bo’s better, a big grin spread across Botan’s face. Botan had beaten Akihiko! Just then, his grandparents turned and announced that he had won. Victory! Botan was amazed. He had won!

Bo watched his cousin wink at his grandparents. That was it.

“Hey!” He shouted. “That’s not fair!” He complained. “You said you liked both of ours! I’m not scared!” He yelled. “I don’t care if you like Akihiko’s better, but at least say it!”

Botan continued to be brave throughout the time he was home. Working hard to complete pranks that other children would have backed out on, like sneaking into the kitchen and making breakfast for Akihiko, but injecting the fruit with food coloring.

When the two boys would go out, Akihiko would always be the one everyone talked to. Botan made a group of friends, but they were all muggle. The group often found Akihiko tagging along, as he had nothing else to do. The group always pranked neighboring kids, and made mischief.

One day when Botan was seven years old, he had a new idea for a prank. All he had to do was get one of his friends to buy a flower pot that matched his neighbors and plant different seeds in them. The pot was bought, and seeds were as well. They grew the seeds for a while, and when it was time to do the swap, Botan volunteered. No one else wanted to get caught. He wasn’t even afraid. Botan brought the seeds and the pot, and went up to the house and swapped the two pots. He even had the guts to sprinkle some of their leftover seeds on the flowerbed, and slip away unseen.

Botan was their fearless leader after all. It was his job.

Y2: Foulplay
[reducio] Botan is an interesting boy. As a young child he was always pressured by his parents. They wanted him to be better than his charming cousin Akihiko. Akihiko always won over others. He was smarter, and in some situations, just better than Botan. What ever Botan did to one up Aki, just never worked. Until his father sat him down.

“Botan. You need to do better. Why is Akihiko always beating you at… everything?”

“I-” Botan stammered. What he meant to sat was something along the lines of I’m doing my best, but Akihiko is just better. Or maybe I’ll do better. But no. Botan just sat there, stuttering at his father.

“Its because you don’t study. Don’t practice. Don’t put in any effort.” His father continued. “Come on son, do better.” his father added.

At this moment, Botan’s heart was completely crushed. Shattered into a million pieces like a piece of hard candy that has been stomped on. But two of his fathers words were stuck in his head. Do better. Do better. Botan was trying. He was practicing. But it just wasn’t enough for his demanding family. From that day on, Botan knew he needed to find another way, even if it wasn’t right. His new way was cheating. Finding loopholes. Sneaking around.

And for some horrible reason it actually sort of worked for him. About 25% of the time Botan would get away with it. And it pleased his dark and cold heart. Very few had peeled back the layers and reached the warm core that disagreed with his choices. If they saw him now, they would ask him why he was doing it. But Botan was getting away with it, so he continued.

One day when Botan and Akihiko were home, the decided to play a round of a basic version of quidditch, with one hoop, and only the quaffle. They agreed on first to 100 would win, and the loser would have to give the winner a stack of chocolate frogs. Their grandparents were sitting outside, supervising the boys and making sure no one got hurt, and that it was an honest game.

About halfway through, Botan was losing pretty hard to Akihiko, and Botan was determined to win. Not for the chocolate frogs, but mainly for the bragging rights. He just wanted to win one thing against Aki. During a round of play, Botan grabbed the quaffle and bumped Aki into their makeshift quidditch hoop. Aki yelped in pain and flew over to his grandmother. When his grandparents were inspecting Akihiko, Botan snuck over to the score board and took a huge risk but taking 20 points off of Aki’s scoreboard. It was a huge risk on his part, but his mother had told him, high risk, high reward.

For something that the rest of the world frowned apon, Botan did not find it that terrible. Actually it was pretty useful. It brought victory, and Botan liked to win.[/reducio]
Y3: Savior
[reducio]Quidditch was always a big part of Botan's life. As a young boy he was quickly introduced to the sport by his father and uncle. Botan quickly grew in skill while pouring time and loads of effort into practice. When he was young, he was often encouraged to try out all of the positions, but because of his strong competitive side, he was drawn towards being a chaser. Botan’s cousin, who was like a brother to him, often played with him, the boys always rotated who played what position, but being a chaser was always what Botan wanted.

Initially, when he made it to school at Mahoutokoro, of course he tried out for the Quidditch team. He barely made it, and so did his cousin, who ended up as their second string seeker, sitting on the bench. Botan was placed as one of the chasers on the team which brought him loads of joy. Every chance he got, Botan would rub it in, always striving to be the best and better than his cousin.

Even though Botan was extremely competitive while playing Quidditch, he did have one fear. Falling. Any time anyone even got close to the edge of their broom or lost their balance, Botan would swoop in and drop the quaffle to make sure they did not fall off of their broom. This made Botan the team’s savior. This position seemed out of character for those who knew him, but began to make more and more sense to Botan, as he watched his teammates getting injured in the dangerous sport of Quidditch.

Being a chaser-savior meant a lot for him and fit his style of play. Botan moved fast and was on the skinny side, able to swoop around and dive well. This allowed him to make it and successfully save some of his teammates from various attacks and falls. Botan usually paid attention, watching what was happening, keeping his eyes wide open for blunger attacks, quaffle passes and occasionally the snitch. Botan was also decent at avoiding hits and shoves, which also helped him be a good savior and overall better Quidditch player.

During his second year, Botan began extensive training for this position, taking up hours of study time each day to instead practice Quidditch. He practiced all of the skills including turns, sharp turns, dives, and flying with others on the broom before he was ready to use his new skills in the game. He watched many games, paying attention to all of them, and pretending like he was in some of the situations that players faced, and watched other saviors diving to help others. After loads of practice and work, Botan was finally ready to be Mahoutokoro’s savior.

Name: Maria Constança Leung de Almeida (梁诗颖 - liáng shīyǐng)
Link to character page: Here
School: Mahoutokoro
Year: Second
Status: Halfblood
Picture: Image
History:

Maria is Macanese, with a rich heritage in both Chinese and Portuguese cultures. Her paternal grandfather, a wizard-born man named Alberto Almeida, moved from Portugal to Macau in the early 80s where he fell in love with a Macanese woman named Xiaoyu. Together they had 3 sons, the middle, Maria’s father, Fernando Leung de Almeida, was a squib. He married a Macanese muggle named Li Beihe through arrangement between the two families. Maria grew up understanding her family was extraordinarily wealthy but normal.

Even though their marriage was arranged, Fernando and Beihe were happy and took their lot in life seriously. Maria was born and as she grew up life was a happy existence. She had friends, more toys than she knew what to do with, and more importantly clothes of all shapes and colors. However, her paternal grandfather decided that her parents should take over the Japanese arm of their business and sent them to Japan when Maria was 9 years old.

Maria hated moving to Japan and she hated going to school there even more. She insisted on making it a point to speak Mandarin and Cantonese whenever she could to spite her teachers and Portuguese to spite her classmates. Because of this rebellion she was often made fun of for being a foreigner and her small efforts at learning Japanese were met with equal hostility.

First instance of magic

She is being picked on by the students for being a foreigner and not being Japanese. On one of these occasions, when she was 10, boiling over with righteous indignation over her powerless in this situation she came home after school. Her parents, as they often were, were busy with business and only the maids, cooks, and her caretaker Himiko were home. As predicted, Himiko started to chastise her for not learning the language well after only being there for a year.

Maria couldn’t hold back anymore and screamed, tears welling up, all the rage from the day boiling over, “I hate you! I hate this! I hate it here! I. Want. To. Go. Home!” As if all her grief manifested itself, a shockwave knocked Himiko to the ground. Maria made her advance the fire in her eyes still not sated. In the Japanese she could muster she hissed, “I wish you could never talk ag-“

Before she could finish her curse, and the interruption saving her caretaker from a very unpleasant experience, the door slammed open and her father, shocked scowled at his daughter.

He looked around, glass was shattered, Himiko, terrified, was still reeling from shock. Her father’s interruption, while it did stop whatever wild magic was bubbling up, did not calm her down. Father and daughter stood there in the foyer staring daggers at each other.

Appearance:

Towering over his peers and even some adults at 5'7", Kiyoshi stands out among the students. Something about him exudes an air of intensity- perhaps his short-cropped, military-style hair; his muscular build; or his deep-set appearance. Or perhaps it was just his face -- even at the tender age of 11 he had had a slightly heavier brow, a more defined jawlone that made him look almost an adult.

He has the typical warm complexion of the Japanese people, though many natives might notice a slightly darker shade to his coloring. Kiyoshi has disproportionately large, calloused hands, which have seen rough use in climbing trees and roughhousing, capable of surprising feats of strength. However, for all their ability, his hands are also incredibly clumsy when handling the myriad of common everyday items that are designed for human proportions.

His clothing is simple and practical and, outside of the school uniform, nothing that would ever catch the eye. Keen observers may notice that he has a preference for loose-fitting clothes that are repurposed adult clothes rather than ones specifically tailored for him. He also often wore simple bracelets made of rope on his wrists; simple and unassuming to many, but a deeply cherished personal gift to Kiyoshi.

Personality:
Reducio
Kiyoshi is generally a quiet child, partly due to his self-consciousness at standing out and partly due to his own nature and internal struggles. He remains mostly quiet unless specifically called upon, though his dark eyes are deeply expressive for those who would be interested enough to pay attention.

History:
Reducio
Kiyoshi was born out of wedlock to an adventurous muggle woman living in the Iide village in the Yamagata prefecture and was raised by a single mother. Despite pressures from the family and the village, his mother has never shared the identity of his birth father, giving rise to many dark rumors of unfortunate encounters with traveling bandits or even more fantastical claims of Giant clans or even Oni that were rumored to inhabit the mountains. For all these, and subsequent rumors, Kiyoshi had always had a loving home to grow up in, if only missing the presence of a father figure.

Kiyoshi had been a wild and troublesome child who often used to throw tantrums, get into fights, and cause all manner of headaches to the adults around him, being a large and shockingly resilient child. But as he grew up under the tutelage of his mother, he slowly started to mellow out and value kindness and compassion over his own fiery instincts.

From an early age, Kiyoshi knew that he was different, not least because of his obvious physical differences with everyone that he knows. As he grew older it became apparent to him that he was not fully human, and that the rumors of his mother's encounters with supernatural beings may have been more than just idle gossip; but try as he might he was never able to get a word out of his mother one way or the other about the identity of his father. Still, Kiyoshi comes to Mahoutokoro with a repressed, nervous kind of energy, eager to learn more about the world, and hopefully find people that did not make him feel like so much of an outsider

First Instance of Mgic
Reducio
It would be difficult for Kiyoshi to say when, exactly, he started using Magic, for giant magic was not quite akin to magic in the sense that wizardfolk would think of it. For Kiyoshi, magic was his very being -- his instincts, his resilience, and his very blood and body. It was both blessing and bane for the boy, being blessed with incredible strength and resilience on the one hand, but an unhelpful mind and instincts on the other. From as early as he could remember, Kiyoshi found himself being a victim to bouts of boredom and incredible anger, and a NEED to assert his dominance over those around him. This, of course, tended to be very easy when you were significantly larger than any child your age, and physical dominance of his peers had come easy to him as early as the age of five, when he would needle of his peers and dare them to sneak out of the village and into exploring the mountains, or challenge groups of them to straight fistfights if they did anything to even mildly annoy him. Young blood, untempered by the wisdom of age or guidance, acted in shameful and embarrassing ways like that.

If he had to point out an irrevocable use of magic, it would be on one of those fabled "adventuring" sessions, where he had snuck into the mountains to explore by himself. For all the claims of aggressive "monkeys" in the forests and mountains that surrounded his village had never deterred him -- whatever was out there would stay away from him if they knew what was good for them. Alas, not all hazards are as easily overcome as the fear of smaller and weaker beings than yourself, and while climbing a particularly large tree, the branch broke under his weight, and the boy fell a dozen feet and landed badly on the ground. It had led to some kind of injury for sure, for Kiyoshi had had trouble standing properly after that.

But where other kids might have cried from the pain, Kiyoshi only felt fury -- how DARE his measly body refuse to do what he wanted it to? He was not some meek and spineless kid, and he would do as he wished, and damn the consequences. By sheer will and grit, the seven-year-old dragged himself up and marched himself back home, determined to pretend nothing had happened so as to not get a lecture and a scolding from his mother.

However, by the time he had come back home, the pain had reduced to nothing -- to the point that he even sheepishly admitted the event to his mother. After a frantic check and an earful about recklessness, his mother checked up on him and found no damage at all -- he had somehow healed himself.

Life was great sometimes, wasnt' it?

Reducio

I remember the mountains and forests of Iida growing up as if they were a part of me. In many ways, maybe they were more my friends than those around me. Growing up, I felt like I was meant to be among those towering peaks, not confined to the small spaces of our village. After all, I knew was that I was different—stronger, taller, and more resilient than everyone around me.

As a child, I was a wild, uncontrollable thing, all instinct and no thought. I would climb trees until the branches snapped under my weight, and I'd dare other kids to sneak into the mountains with me. I loved the fear in their eyes when they looked at me, I think. Mother would scold me often, telling me to be kind and gentle, but it was hard to listen when my blood was pumping and screaming for me to be as fierce as was my due.

I recall one time when I fell from a tree. I must have been around seven. The branch broke, and I landed badly and it hurt terribly to even try and stand. Instead of crying, I felt a burning anger consume me. How dare my body betray me? I dragged myself back home, determined not to show weakness. By the time I arrived, the pain had vanished, and my mother found no injury. It was as if my body had healed itself. She looked at me with a mix of worry and wonder, but she never said a word about it again.

Mother was something else. For all the trouble I gave her, she was patient with me and taught me to control myself, to be respectful and humble. She'd remind me time and time again that strength wasn't just about physical power but about kindness and compassion. It wasn't easy; my instincts often got the better of me many times before I started to understand properly.

People in the village whisper about my father, even now. Some said he was a bandit, others a giant from the mountains, and a few even claimed he was an Oni. My mother never confirmed or denied any of it. She just smiled and told me that I was loved, no matter what.

As I grew older, I began to realize that I wasn't fully human. My size and strength were just the beginning. There was something deeper inside of me that set me apart. My blood and my instincts -- it is difficult to put into words, language is not quite enough to describe it well -- sing to me, I suppose would be the closest thing I can get to. It demands action, and respect, and entertainment, in ways that would shame me to put into words.

But I know now that I am more than my blood. I am strong, and not just a slave to my feelings; I know how to be strong, and how to think. Mother taught me. But even still, sometimes I cannot help but feel like an outsider looking in. The world seems so small, and people so alien in how they think and act. But people are people are people, and should be respected, no matter how much you disagree with them.

Maybe Mahoutokoro will be better, and people there will seem less alien than those from my home? Here's to hoping.

Reason for Pending:
 • As per part-giant lore here on site, we currently do not have a system for Muggles having children with giants, and magical part-giant children are said to have inherited the magic from their wizarding parent, not from their giant one. All known half-giants have had magical blood; as such, Kiyoshi's mother being a Muggle and his father being a giant does not work with our current system. Please make sure at least one of his parents has magical blood.
 • Please make sure you state how old Kiyoshi was during his first instance of magic in the actual "first instance of magic" section, not just in your part-giant application; also, as per Mahoutokouro lore, Kiyoshi would have been invited to the school's day program after having this first instance of magic and after his seventh birthday, something you should mention or at least keep in mind when writing your backstory.
 • Love the style of writing in your part-giant application, but you need to have more concrete detail (things Kyoshi may not actually know, but we staff need to know). Was his father actually a giant? What physical characteristics does Kyoshi have from his giant heritage? (You're good on temperament, but haven't described in the application what he looks like that makes it clear he has giant heritage.) You have this written, but it's not in the part-giant application, and it unfortunately needs to be in that specific location to count.
 • Please make sure that any edits you make here are also made in your encyclopedia.

History:
Katsuro was born and raised between Kyoto, Japan and Braga, Portugal. His father, Diogo Souto, is a Portuguese wizard, whose studies were done at the Beauxbatons Academy of Magic. The Souto family is a well-known family in the Portuguese wizarding world, as they own one of the most famous Quidditch and Broom Racing stores in the city of Braga, hometown of the Braga Broomfleet, and it goes without saying that his father is a big fan and supporter of the team. Despite his fondness for the ancient game of Quidditch and its tradition, Diogo Souto found his greatest passion in Broom Racing. He works as an ambassador at the Japanese Ministry of Magic in the Magical Games and Sports Department.

His mother, Mizuna Goto is the middle sister of Haruto Goto, father of Miharu Goto. The Goto family is a prestigious and noble pure-blood family with intrinsic beliefs based on traditional views of blood purity. They value making the right connections and finding ways to succeed and maintain their reputable and respectable name in wizarding society. Mizuna is a former broom racer. She won several competitions before abandoning her career and deciding to become a housewife, focusing on her home and family.

It was through Broom Racing that Mizuna Goto and Diogo Souto met. He was a young wizard taking his first steps as an ambassador and Mizuna was in her golden years as a Broom Racer. Their families saw and supported the engagement as a beautiful arrangement that would bring status and honour to both family names, so they had the support of both families from the beginning of their relationship. Diogo and Mizuna had three boys, Osamu Souto, a fifteen years old boy and a fifth year student at Mahoutokoro. Katsuro Souto, our boy and Ryota Souto, the youngest at 7 years old, who like his brothers started his education at Mahoutokoro through the school's day program. Before starting at Mahoutokoro, all the boys were taught through home schooling and their tutors.

First Magic:
It was one of those moments Katsuro would want to forget and erase from others' memory, but unfortunately that wasn't the magic he had performed by accident. Even as bright as he was, altering others' minds was a too much powerful magic for a young boy like himself.

It was a nice spring day, the sun was bright, the weather was warm and pleasant. The Souto family then decided it would be a perfect day to have lunch outdoors and have a pleasant family moment with good food, refreshing drinks and games!

Katsuro was not born the golden prince he was led to believe, but he was undoubtedly born a competitor and a bad loser. He and his older brother flew through the fields within the family mansion, but unfortunately, Katsuro was losing to Osamu, who refused to make his younger brother’s work easier.

Frustrated, Katsuro's temper began to rise, he was only 6 years old at the time and he had long forgotten his manners, especially since Osamu was not shy about using less than fair tricks to gain his advantage. It was during one of these tricks that Katsuro lost control of his emotions. But instead of seeing his greatest wish come true - seeing Osamu fall off his broom - it was his own broom that caught fire and he ended up falling into one of the garden's ornamental fountains.

Needless to say, to this day Osamu never misses an opportunity to torment him with this memory!

Old Backstory
Reducio
Miharu or Haru is raised within the manor of the Goto Family, an old pureblood wizarding family with known status in Kyoto, Japan. They are purists to the core, finding associating with people other than pureblood as a waste of time and energy and a disgrace to the family's name. Not only that, but they are known for their strictness, their desire to be on top no matter what it takes, even if it means stepping on people and failure isn't an option.

Haru is raised by both her parents. Goto Haruto, a well-known wizard from the Goto Family, is strict in his beliefs of purism and the one responsible for most of Haru's education before she began to attend Mahoutokoro. He engraved in her the views of their family where purebloods are supreme and those below them deserve only minimal respect and must strictly avoid associating with them. Goto Tokiwa (Koizumi Tokiwa before marriage), Haru's mother and an excellent Quidditch Player, helped in teaching Haru about Quidditch and riding a broom. Much like Haruto, she follows their purists' views and is just as strict as him when it comes to teaching. Her vision is to turn Haru into an excellent Quidditch player like herself to follow her footsteps. Haru's parents met in Kyoto where Haruto encountered Koizumi Tokiwa, a witch from the well-known pureblood family of Koizumi and sister of Kane Koizumi Vickers, making Haru and Naoki cousins.

Haru had followed what her parents wanted her to do in most of her childhood, spending most of it studying and practicing in the Goto Manor. She rarely does anything fun, finding those unnecessary although deep inside, she does want to experience a normal childhood but is just afraid of disappointing her parents.

Her first instance of accidental magic happened when she was around 6 years old. She was spending her time reading in their family's manor library when her cousins decided to play and run around. The more they made noises, the more she got annoyed at them. When they pulled the book that she was reading away from her, her anger reached its peak. In response to that anger, books began to fly off of their shelves, causing a commotion. Her father was home at the time, scolded her cousin for messing around in the library. He didn't make any remarks on Haru's magic for it'd be more surprising if she didn't show any sign of it.

Her education within the manor continued until she had received an invitation for Mahoutokoro's day class. Her parents decided to let her attend in order to learn more about magic and school settings are a good way to do so. Haru had a hard time in classes, not in terms of academics and magic but rather on the social aspect because of her habits that had developed due to how she was raised by her parents. She tends to throw insulting remarks without knowing it to people, especially once she knows of someone's blood status, something that she would regret later on and would feel a striking guilt. While her parents would be proud of her, she isn't. People are interesting no matter what their blood status are, even the non-magical folks and she had decided to change herself for the better even though her parents might be disappointed of her. It's a challenge that she's willing to take.

Miharu or Haru is raised within the manor of the Goto Family, an old pureblood wizarding family with known status in Kyoto, Japan. They are purists to the core, finding associating with people other than pureblood as a waste of time and energy and a disgrace to the family's name.
