"Incendio." The young Slytherin said. Ara ended up hitting her target, Sere. She was also the only one in her team to actually hit a Griff with a spell. Although this is a small victory and even her teammate complimented it, the girl was quite disappointed that her spell didn't perform as planned. Just looking at the flames her wand has produced, she can tell that it wouldn't last more than 2 rounds. She just scoffed and rolled her eyes in result of her dissatisfaction.

But she couldn't ponder on her disappointment for long. Mahlioz ended up getting hit by the same spell Ara hit Sere with. Thankfully, she wasn't set aflame. Ara has only kept on a straight face throughout the duel so far, her eyes only widening when Mahlioz got hit.

Onto Round 2. What would be her next move?

He grasped his wand in his hand, trying not to hold it too firmly in case it put his game off. He aimed the tip at Sere, wand movement flowing effortlessly, "Wingardium… Leviosa," he cast, the first year spell flowing effortless out of him. It missed completely, Sere evading the spell like child’s play. He cursed to himself but his mood was flipped when the same Gryffindor was hit by Ara, a Slytherin he had never interacted before before this moment. In fact, he had never interacted with his teammates before. Of course, he had seen them around, along with the whole duelling squad, but never had a conversation with either of them. He had a brief thought that Mahl was friends with Qrowley and Nora, but he couldn’t say for sure. "Well done, Ara!" he congratulated.

He turned to Mahl, "Are you okay?" after all, she may not have been set aflame, but she was still hit. Lucian cast a glance to member number three of their opponents, she was just… stood there. Like… oh, like a deer in headlights — what are headlights? is it like a version of lumos? he had heard of a third eye before, but maybe it is a story concocted to keep muggles from knowing it’s just that we gain a light on a forehead? — and even her own team were concerned a little. This was his first official duel, yes he had been in fights before but this one was a duel that had your whole house depending on you!

There were times when duelling was an almost formal affair with actions akin to the movement of pieces on a chessboard. There were also times when duelling could be quite chaotic, the formality tossed aside in favor of chance. This was one of those times.

Cassius watched with barely hidden surprise as not one but two duellists lost control of their spells, causing them to careen away from their intended targets and instead threaten their own teammates. While the Gryffindor side was lucky to evade the friendly fire despite being quite literally on fire, the Slytherin side could not say the same. The Ravenclaw winced as the knockback jinx struck Lucian despite his best attempts to evade. No doubt he will not be pleased with his teammate for being on the receiving end of that particular jinx.

The other duellists did not much more luck. Ara's bubble-producing spell wend wide of its target as did Lucian's fire-making spell. On the Gryffindor side, Aries still seemed out of it. He had seen her do this before and hoped she could quickly recover her senses if only for her team's sake. Sere, perhaps distracted by the smoldering flames on her robes, also missed her fire-making spell.

The teams were still evenly matched as far as Cassius could tell but perhaps the next round would begin to turn the match in favor of one side or the other.

This is certainly not Raizel's day huh? Not just one, but two wands were pointed at her as she was preparing her own. Two of their opponents had decided to hone in on her and she sure doesn't know what to feel about that. In a way, perhaps she was glad most of them targeted her and not the first year in their team even though one of them went for her.

Her grip on her wand tightened as she braced herself for the incoming spells, avoiding each one while trying to cast her own. She got too careless, thinking that it was a good idea to dodge and cast a spell. Didn't she make the same mistake before? Not only did she miss her target but she almost hit one of her teammates… AGAIN. This time though, she felt bad, as it went for Sere but good thing she was quick on her feet. “You good?” She called out to the only teammate she has that still has her head in the game. “Sorry about that.”

The fact that one of them wasn't doing anything to benefit their team is ticking her off. She was just standing there. That made her click her tongue in annoyance. Really, if people aren't up for a duel, they should say so in the beginning and stop dragging others down with them. “Calm down, get it together.” Raizel needs to focus though as her own performance right now isn't exactly the best and while that is better than doing nothing, she can't keep going like this.

"Owh, Gosh!" Sere moved quickly to avoid Raizel's spell which was once again accidentally thrown at her teammate -Sere herself, in this round-. Raizel really has to maintain her focus. Sere nodded, "I'm goo-- Whoa?!" Sere crouched quickly, planning to evade when she saw one of the Slytherin girl's wand was aimed on her. But, hey! The spell wasn't heading to her! Thank God!

"Incendio!"

Once again Sere casted The Fire-Making Spell, still to the girl who caught her attention from the start, but unfortunately the spell she cast missed this time. Sere patted her robe to turn off the flaming Incendio from the previous round. She glanced at Aries who was still silent. Maybe she is in a bad condition today. Sere decided to ignore one of her teammate, "Okay, I have to focus right now."

Well that had all gone south way too quickly. How on earth had Mahlioz missed so badly that she'd aimed at Lucian?? He and Sere looked nothing alike! And what made it worse was that he wasn't able to dodge in time and got hurt. Her own teammate, getting hurt because of her. No one else's spells hit - on either side - so she was the only one. And how she wished she hadn't been.

"Ohmygod ohmygod I'm so sorry," she told her fellow snake, mortified and ashamed. What a way to make a first impression. This was her second duel, she was supposed to be getting better! "I swear I didn't mean to, I'm so so sorry!" There unfortunately wasn't enough time before the next round for her to apologize as profusely as she wanted to. Gods, did she feel bad.

But she had to concentrate. So it wouldn't happen again.

Lucian felt the force of the spell as it plowed right through him. He groaned and gritted his teeth, that spell never got any easier to handle. Mahlioz rushed out her apologies, Lucian didn’t care for them. He was growing frustrated. None of his spells were landing and Raizel keeps evading everything.

He shot s look at the girl. "Just watch where you point your wand next time, darling. We’re on the same team. Remember," Lucian spat scornfully, stepping away from the second year. His spells may have fizzled out, but at least he hasn’t hit Mahlioz or Ara.(He isn’t truely angry, after all, duelling is unpredictable)

This wasn’t the time for in-house spats, but anyone who knew him would know that his temper is fiery. Especially since coming from from Christmas. Maybe if he channeled his burning rage at Klaus into his magic he would have more luck.

He eyed Aries.

Is she ever going to move? She’s a free target.

'Damn it.' she missed. Ara saw that Mahlioz's spell hit Lucian instead of her desired target so she didn't have time to sulk. She felt bad for Lucian and Mahlioz but it was just normal in dueling. She was actually surprised that she hasn't been hit yet.

She saw the two's exchange, not suprising to her. At least Mahlioz apologized quickly but the other's response was out of frustration.

Ara looked at her two teammates 'Hope this doesn't affect the rest of the duel for the both of them' she thought.

In 1983, muggle musician Elton John released what would become one of his top hits, "I'm Still Standing," off the studio album Too Low for Zero. Hailing from a proud pure-blood lineage, Cassius did not know this; but, at least one Gryffindor spectator in the crowd did. As they belted out the chorus of the song, the Ravenclaw moderator could not help but agree in finding it to be appropriate, albeit annoying, in this situation. Despite getting struck by Ara and Mahlioz and looking very much worse for wear, the plucky Gryffindor first year was indeed still standing and looking like a true survivor.

Standing though they were, the danger was still present. Some part of their robes had caught fire and they were no doubt suffering the effects of the tickling charm, a quite annoying charm that Cassius was lucky to have not faced. He hated being tickled.

Though scoring the heavier hit, the Slytherin side did not escape unscathed. While Raizel's more complicated fire-making spell sputtered out before it even began, Sere had managed to cast theirs resulting in a solid hit upon Mahlioz. Unlike the first year, Mahlioz's robes did not seem to have caught fire in the blast.

Less excitingly, Aries was still non-responsive while Lucian had opted for a more defensive approach, perhaps expecting to be targeted after the previous round's blunder by Mahlioz. As always, anything could happen, and the match went on.

Mahlioz couldn't blame Lucian for his comment, but the amount of spite behind his words made her feel so awful. She'd thought she and her wand got along! Why did it have to go and do this to them? They had to make up for it.
Thankfully the next round was not as bad. Lucian stayed out of the way, probably expecting spells to come at him again, but none did (and thankfully not from his own teammates again). Both Ara and Mahlioz's spells landed, and the young firstie on the Gryffindor side looked about ready to pass out.

Unfortunately, it seemed the lions really had something against Mahlioz, because the two of them that could move (one had been frozen in place since the beginning, weirdly) shot spells at her. Fortunately only one landed, and they weren't even burning from the incendio, but it still hurt. Well, a little bit of pain wasn't going to stop her. They were still here and they could still put up a fight.
