Aurelia- I can relate a lot with the talkativeness and saying things you regret a lot. I feel like sometimes my mind just zones out but my mouth keeps going. Especially during arguments or when I'm emotional, and I look back at it and realize how bad it really was. And when it comes to things I'm passionate about, I tend to talk about them, a lot. The mind thing happens, and I just talk. It's kind of a coping mechanism though, because if I talk about something I like long enough I kind of calm down a bit. I believe it's called a hyperfixation? When it comes to ADHD things I was never really educated on terms since where I'm from people don't do a lot to help it. Adding on to that, whenever I find an interest, I find myself, again, becoming hyper fixated about. It technically becomes my personality for the time being, and the basis of every conversation I engage in. Once I move on from said interest I look back and realize how obnoxious it probably was.(It was something I got made fun of a lot growing up too.)
As for what Juni said- oh my god I can relate to everything. Sleeping is a thing I struggle with a lot, even since I was five or four. I feel like my mind is just to busy to fall asleep, it's always running 24/7 and it gets super annoying. Even when I'm tired, I expect myself to fall asleep easily since my body is practically out of energy, but apparently, my brain just doesn't. I feel like my brain goes out of control sometimes and it just involuntarily runs when I don't want it too. Again, it gets annoying.
And when that happens, it only gets worse. I really don't know what it has to do with, my anxiety or my ADHD, maybe both, but I have this issue with time. Dunno if it happens to any of you lot, but whenever I'm late my brain explodes and has a meltdown. I get super emotional and sometimes even get panic attacks. Continuing on from what I said about troubles sleeping, sometimes, when I have trouble sleeping I look over at my clock and realize how late it is. I then overthink and calculate how much hours of sleep I'll be getting and how much it'll affect me tomorrow morning. From there, it just gets harder to sleep. I actually sleep with my alarm clock face down because if I don't, I'll find myself looking at it no matter how hard I try not to. Even then I have to resist the urge to turn it over and check, even though I know it'll just end with me upset. Dunno if that's an ADHD thing, honestly. It's been a thing that happens to me since I was younger. Even when I'm a few minutes late to something I overthink and get emotional.
And the emotions thing- that is very relatable. I find myself crying at the stupidest things, even if I tell myself not to. Just yesterday I started tearing up when I was arguing with my dad about my grades. It wasn't even all that serious, but any sort of negative topic gets me emotional. Angers a big problem too- I find myself getting caught up in stupid arguments I really should be ignoring. I fall for bait easily and when people try to get on my nerves, which kind of gets annoying because it wastes my time. I've gotten a lot better, considering I used to have full blown meltdowns as a kid, but it's still a big problem.
God this is long- but like I said I enjoy talking about things I'm passionate and know a lot about.

I get frustrated in two main areas. One is how adhd is perceived by outsiders. OOC I’m a girl and so many think it’s only a diagnosis given to boys. I apparently can’t possibly have it to them. Others see me more “normal” than not, aka I don’t fit the stereotype or misconception they have, so again, I can’t possibly have it.
Another comes my lack of dedicating myself to one thing. Hobbies, interests, tv shows, movies, books. I lose interest so fast in some things or over analyze what my “favorites” are. Therefore I don’t always connect well with others, especially when those things are their main interest. Sometimes I think this lack of common bonding attributes to my social anxiety.
But yep yep, there’s some of my story.

Yeah. People can be mean. Oh and my parent's friends and relatives, I always feared their judgement too idk. But the perks combo, makes writing and plotting a very enjoyable experience. Tbh, I have been loving the experience plotting with adhd people!Juniper Kelly wrote: 4 Apr 2022, 02:55 the thing is, people assume you're just annoying or a bad kid. But it's like- you can't really control it, you know? But yeah, there are some pros. Honestly, the "pros" such as creativity and Spontaneity are very obvious in me. Conversational Skills.... not so much.
I always had trouble sleeping as a child. always the last one awake while everyone's deep asleep. i always wondered why i couldn't sleep in 15 mins like the average person.
as for emotions, i have alexithymia - which is common in people with adhd, autism, some types of bpd but neurotypicals can also have it. uh... emotions kinda manifest physically for me, i constantly have 'anxiety' chest aches etc and funny/specific feelings in my head. so cant really tell when im feeling sad or angry whatnot. i prefer it that way actually, albeit quite uncomfortable at times, else id prob be an emotional wreck without it as its triggered so easily. I cry like once/twice a year average. ~~usually happens on my period~~
'YOU DONT LOOK LIKE YOU HAVE ADHD' i kinda resent that statement. there is the hyperactive and inattentive types. and im much more inattentive. i dont have much favourites. they are either nice or not nice.

Oh my god Simon, I can relate to that. I'm nonbinary, but I'm fem presenting and my gender was assigned female at birth. Whenever boys are diagnosed people are like, 'alright,' and actually take recognition of their ADHD. But for me, and others, I'm often accused of faking it for attention or I'm just called emotional. The amount of times I've been accused of faking my condition is so much it's not even funny. Or I'm also accused of it because I'm not that energetic or my focus isn't that bad. I feel like people struggle to grasp the concept that ADHD affects people in different ways. Although my focus isn't that bad it still affects me heavily.
I hate it because people, most of the time neurotypical, decide they can just diagnose me when I'm literally MEDICALLY diagnosed. Like just because I don't give off ADHD 'vibes' doesn't mean I don't have it? It really gets on my nerves sometimes.

unfortunately, in a world of a variety of people, sexuality, colours, personalities and minds, we cannot expect everyone to understand at a level that we ourselves do. sure we can try and educated them on the condition but i'd rather keep it to myself to avoid the stigma and misconceptions as a whole. it may not be the best at spreading awareness but its simply better for me. in fact, i've only been daignosed a few months ago and before the 2nd half of 2021, i barely knew what ADHD really was. but i did a lot of research after that. ignore them if they're aggravating.

ty for sharing your story vivienne, i can definitely relate to a lot of points you mentioned. personally, i was diagnosed with adhd as a child and i was extremely hyperactive back then--i was a very impulsive and difficult kid. the meds they prescribed me back then were mediocre at best, and the symptoms never truly went away even now as an adult. i also understand @juniper kelly's notion of getting into fights with other ppl, as i was notorious for brawling with other kids back in primary and secondary school.
i also have a problem with speech too, as in getting really passionate about a subject and gesturing wildly as i speak about it. my mom gets annoyed a lot, especially when i tend to cut her off when she's talking sometimes (i can't help it, it's the impulsiveness). i definitely have trouble reigning in emotions and more often than not it affects my relationship with others because my thoughts race as i speak and i would end up saying something unintentionally hurtful. it's honestly a struggle in social interactions.

@Juniper Kelly
i used to be a biter in kindergarten. noom.
before i was daignosed i just thought i was just very bad naturally at most things esp school work even if i tried.
back in HS days, I will usually daydream the lesson off unless its something i like - literally couldn't help my mind wandering it becomes extremely fatiguing for me to try and force my brain to pay attention when it doesnt want to. (thats what the adhd drugs are for i suppose) also barely done my homework because i never remembered - even if i took note. it was the worst in 2020 online lessons. a lot were just words that flew over my head, even if a rewatched it, little info was retained. i'm lucky to have even gotten this mess of a brain into uni. totally didnt have to repeat my first year of uni. but now im daignosed with adhd, i hope it gets easier.
Right now, i try to plan with less than 3 things happening in a day. It makes it easier to remember stuff, especially off the top of my head. things include groceries+cooking. assignments, online class, or days where i have to go to the groomers, the cat rescue volunteer or clinics. writing emails are also considered a thing to me. cooking is one of the hardest things to do in my opinion for ADHD. sometimes i put it off for some time that i have just fruit/oats for a few days - dont learn from me kiddos.
right now i really need advise. so my uni requires me to complete some hours from clinic - i found one finally - i will be starting on Wednesday... should i tell the supervisor that i have adhd or just try to act as neurotypical as possible?

imo i don't think you should keep it a secret, they might be able to help you or make your working condition easier on a few aspects if they knew you're struggling with adhd
