Etymology of names
Henri
─ ahn-REE ─
Henri is a French short form of the German name Heinrich. Henri means “home ruler” (from Germanic “hagan” = enclosure or “heim” = home + “rihhi” = powerful/rich/mighty/ruler).

Charles
─ shaar-LUH ─
The name Charles is of German, French origin and means "free man". The name derives from the Germanic name Karl, meaning "freeman". The royal name began as Charlemagne before being shortened to Charles.
de Bourbon
─ duh-BWUR-boung ─
French: habitational name from a village in Allier, the site of the castle of Bourbon, or from another place so named, for example one in Saône-et-Loire. The place name is of uncertain origin, according to Dauzat derived from a ‘Celtic and pre-Celtic’ element borb-describing a well or hot spring. Many bearers of the surname claim a connection with the former French royal family, but the name is also derived from residence in these villages and from the Bourbonnais, a former province in central France around Bourbon in Allier.

ℙ 𝔼 ℝ 𝕊 𝕆 ℕ 𝔸 𝕃 𝕀 𝕋 𝕐 ── Once you've met Henri, it is impossible to dislike him--the young French is nothing but charming, outgoing and incredibly charismatic. Henri has his way with words, knowing and saying exactly what people want to hear whilst accompanying it with a disarming smile. He's particularly gentle with the ladies and the pretty boys--he never fails to compliment them to earn their favour, as he feels attraction towards both genders. Never would anyone suspect that underneath all that dazzling outward appearance is a manipulative, conniving and vain person. Henri knows he's got the charm and he's learnt to use it to his advantage. He viciously guards his darker side away from people and he doesn't have a conscience--if you aren't someone he considers as valuable within his entourage, he would never extend a hand in need when you're in trouble. Henri knows not of compassion and sympathy for others in his heart.

Carnelian Miller (Regina's great-grandfather) had had a darling wife whom he cherished dearly despite the circumstance of their arranged marriage due to Pureblood traditions. Together, the couple had bared brilliant and prodigal children by the names of Charles and Melvina Miller. Whereas Charles - the older brother - would attend Hogwarts for his education and wed Allura Barlowe of Durmstrang a few years after his graduation before having their only coveted son Alfred, Melvina found herself enchanted by the bewitching calling of Beauxbatons Academy of Magic and pleaded for her parents to allow her to study within the sophisticated walls of the Académie. Thus was the beginning of Melvina Miller's story, where she was sent to France and encountered the wonderful and gentlemanly Alexandre Louis de Courcillon in her fourth year. Alexandre was in his sixth year when they met for the first time, and both Purebloods quickly became enamored with one another.

When Carnelian discovered that the prestigious House of Courcillon had a family prestige that could be traced back to French nobility during the 17th century, he immediately gave his daughter and her lover all of his blessings when Melvina had announced her willing engagement with Alexandre--since it was a beneficial marriage that would expand the House of Miller's connections to France. Melvina de Courcillon then gave birth to a beautiful girl whom she named Juliette Marie, and being the only child in the family, that girl would grow up to be condescending and extremely pretentious. It was almost unbelievable that anyone could ever come to genuinely like such a vain woman as Juliette, yet she somehow charmed the Pureblood Heir of the House of Bourbon to fall irrevocably in love with her and leave his at-the-time fiance Annalise de Montfort to marry Juliette instead, without knowing Annalise was already pregnant with a child who would later be born under the name Lucietta Mahler @Everly Charlton in America. People whispered that Juliette de Courcillon had used Amortentia, others rumoured that Guillaume Alphonse de Bourbon was simply infatuated with her otherwordly beauty - all blond hair and shining grey eyes like diamonds. Despite the circulating hearsay, Juliette was married into the House of Bourbon and almost a year after, Henri Charles de Bourbon (Regina's second cousin) was born. He would not meet Lucietta, the illegitimate child of his father, and discover that they were half-siblings until much later in his life.

Juliette Marie de Bourbon had wanted a daughter to pamper like a princess, but she'd got a son instead, and it was for this reason that Henri never received maternal affections from Mère throughout his childhood. Père was too besotted with the now Bourbon matriarch to even notice, and Henri was left to be raised by caretakers and preceptors. Henri inherited his good looks from his mother, and unfortunately, all of her bad traits as well. He came to resent his parents for their neglect, even though he'd learnt the art of the mask and pretended to be a good, obedient son. He never understood the concept of love as he's never received it from his parents, and soon Henri became a new constant rumour within the French Pureblood society as a child conceived through Love Potion, thus unable to feel love - fuelling the already scuttlebutt of Guillaume and Juliette's romance. This knowledge was one of the many causes of Henri's hidden rotten side, but the moment that he stepped foot into Beauxbatons, the young Bourbon Heir vowed to make use of his beautiful face and charm he'd got from his detestable mother to one day trample both of his parents and bring the House of Bourbon to new heights within Wizarding France. This conviction only grew when his sister, Charlotte Diane de Bourbon, came to this world when he was 11 - the spoiled little princess that Mère had always wanted.

First instance of magic: It was during supper with both of his insufferable parents that Henri displayed the potential prowess of his magic. Henri was only five when he unintentionally exploded all of the glasses and china plates on the table due to barely concealed anger after a underlying vicious comment Mère had thrown at him. One of the broken pieces almost marred Juliette's flawless skin. Henri suffered a furious scolding from Père and was grounded in his quarters for three consecutive days.

Guillaume de Bourbon

Henri's Père. A man with a handsome smile even in his late thirties, Guillaume is held within high regard in his work at the Magical Law Enforcement of the French Ministry of Magic. He's known to be incredibly smitten with his gorgeous wife, having married her only six months after dating each other in their youth. The scandalous rumors of Guillaume leaving his previous fiancée for Juliette because of Amortentia were swept under the rug through shady influence. He seems to have no recollection at all of his ex-lover, his mind always focused on pleasing his spouse. His bad relationship with Henri mostly stem from this very reason - Guillaume listening to Juliette's complaints more than talking with his own son.

Juliette de Bourbon (née de Courcillon)
┗━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━┛
━━━━━━━━━
Henri's Mère. An extremely beautiful and vain woman. She ages wonderfully, without a single wrinkle or imperfection on her face. A brilliant socialite who loves being in the spotlight as much as watching everybody covet her beauty. Her otherworldly appearance is a mask to the rotten, wicked heart she has deep inside - something Juliette had undoubtedly passed down to the son she hates so much, yet ironically resembles her in every way. Henri despises Juliette for cursing him with a beautiful face but a loveless life. Juliette actively pitches Guillaume against Henri as well, all because she'd wanted a daughter instead.

┏━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━┓
Charlotte de Bourbon
┗━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━┛
━━━━━━━━━
Henri's Sœur. Charlotte is the pampered little Princesse of the family, receiving much more affection from Guillaume and Juliette than her brother ever had. She's only two years old, yet she's already inherited her mother's beautiful features and hair except for her green eyes. That's the only difference that set her apart from Henri and upsets Juliette because her clearly favored daughter is not a carbon copy of her whereas the hated son is. Charlotte has a radiant smile and is very polite to everyone, appearing innocent in the public's eyes. Only Henri knows what a capricious, spoiled little girl his little sister truly is, and they do not get along.

LOVELY CREATURE

Reducio
For as long as Henri could remember, people had always gushed about how his looks were divine or how one day, he would undoubtably grow up to break many hearts of both men and women. He had never failed to notice how his caretakers would whisper amongst themselves in the halls of the grandiose Château de Bourbon about his ethereal traits. 'Sa beauté est ravissant, même à son jeune âge,' they would say. 'C'est de la famille, sûrement. Il l'a hérité de sa mère.'(*)

When Henri had been old enough to understand what they mean, he'd spent a full hour staring at the mirror in his quarters and had acknowledge their words had all been true. He had been only eight then, but he could see how his ashy blond locks would shimmer like golden threads and how his grey eyes shone like jewelry in the light. Although he did not possess Veela blood, one could almost mistake him to be one at first glance. Deep down, Henri did not rejoice at this fact for all of these attractive features belonged to a mother who did not love him. Juliette Marie de Bourbon had given her son everything but maternal affection, as she should have. But all would be fine, Henri had thought darkly to himself in the sanctuary of his bedroom. Because beauty was a powerful weapon, and the young Bourbon Heir would harness it to perfection and use it to his advantage in the future.

True to his conviction, the blond-haired little boy had begun taking care of his appearance more and observe other beautiful individuals to improve what was necessary. For someone so young, nobody had suspected he'd been more mature in his mind then he'd seemed. Henri would meticulously style his hair in the mornings, carefully pick out clothes that would compliment his complexion the most, spend a reasonably amount of time under the sun as to not appear sickly pale, and respect a religious diet that would allow him to maintain a healthy and pleasing form from body to skin. The boy had learnt to smile more, even if they'd been as fake as the positive and disarming emotions he'd force onto his face to charm other people.

This had continued on until he'd turned 11, and Henri had found all of his effort hadn't gone to waste. It was the day when he'd be escorted to L'Académie de Magie Beauxbâtons, and as soon as he'd stepped foot in Cannes and witnessed many heads turning around twice to get a better look at him as he'd passed by. Some of the girls had even been blatantly staring, and blushed bright red when he'd innocently flashed them a practiced dazzling smile full of perfectly white teeth. As the Bourbon Heir bid one of his caretakers goodbye and climbed on the Abraxan carriage, Henri's smile had morphed into something more gleefully malignant--momentarily twisting his beautiful features. Perhaps, if there was one single thing he would be grateful to his useless Mère for, it was giving him the most dangerous weapon of all.
(*)His beauty is delightful, even at his young age. It certainly runs in the family. He inherited it from his mother.
CHARMER

Reducio
Henri knew that only good looks alone did not suffice to get him far into the world, especially not within the competitive and cutthroat Pureblood community. The scramble for the top of the food chain was arduous and the young de Bourbon Heir understood at once that the fastest way to climb the ladder was with the right words and the right attitude.

The ethereal beauty he'd inherited from Mère which made people turn their heads to get a second better look at him served both as a base and an advantage.

Since he'd started his first year at Beauxbatons, Henri had learnt quickly that he should make use of the attention he seized from other at a first glance and put himself out there to communicate with people. After all, being seen as the person to initiate a conversation always proved to be an excellent first impression. Everybody was already enthralled by his practiced handsome smile and as soon as the compliments began tumbling from his lips, they were already wrapped around his finger. Henri always said what people wanted to hear, not what they should be told. He knew how to appeal to a an arrogant man's ego, or to praise a conceited woman's narcissism.

The young French upped his acting even more around professors at L'Académie, always addressing them with a disarming smile accompanied with the utmost respectful behaviour. He never acted out of line and his outstanding grades only served to earn their favour even quicker. With his peers, Henri knew when to offer sympathy and when to offer his trust--even if it was all just an elaborate plan to subtly coerce them into his entourage. He made sure to display himself as someone friendly and extraverted, allowing the other students to have the illusion that he was approachable and trustworthy. Some of them especially adored his flirtatious remarks spoken with a silky purr, and Henri never corrected the gossiping for it was the perfect boost to his charismatic personality.

Even if he was a secretly vain person, Henri always reminded himself to remain as humble as possible without crossing the line of low self-esteem. People naturally appreciated those who knew their places, especially when they believed themselves to be superior than him--whether the silly thought was true or not. It added more to his charm, he mused, and always responded to compliments directed at him with a modest laugh, even though he silently scoffed at their attempt to get in his good graces. Body language was also a weapon Henri had mastered perfectly--a deferential tip of the head when talking to upperclassmen or adults, attentive gazes with witty humour when conversing with his 'friends', carefree gestures to lure others into a sense of security around him.

All in all, Henri had learnt the art of charming deception.
KEEN EYE

Reducio
Over the course of two years at the L'Académie, Henri had learned a valuable skill as an active student socialite. There were times when he talked less, and observed more. Henri began to notice things that usually escaped a common person's eye - a misplaced object here, a clothing out of place there, and even the buzzing of a certain gilded flying ball on the Quidditch field. He discovered how easy it was to see when one stood back, blend into the background and examined their surroundings instead of putting themself forward. And true to the power hungry individualist he was, Henri wanted to develop this new found skill to its fullest.

He started exploring the hidden corridors and halls of Beauxbatons whereas the other students preferred art over adventure. Henri's steps were slow and purposeful, cold grey eyes scanning every nook and cranny in search for anything that no one else had discovered before. It felt like knowing a secret all for his own benefit. Already in his wicked mind Henri was scheming on how to manipulate this ability as a weapon for his benefit. He charmed the occasional lovely companion hanging off his arm in school by presenting a piece of jewelry he'd stolen found lying around in a secluded corner of the dormitories. He helped other students or teachers find misplaced items to gain their favour. There were a few times where he even spotted the snitch seconds before their own Seeker did during Quidditch practices. Henri was quickly becoming known for his sharp, keen eyesight and this grew his ego immeasurably.

The satisfaction only increased tenfold when the summer he returned to the Château de Bourbon to make use of his improved visibility. The things he'd never once noticed suddenly coming into his sight - old grimoires on the darkest arts of magic that were gathering dust in the corners of the forgotten attic, or useful little trinkets in one of the many tearooms of the extravagant mansion possessed. The domestics became used to his developped behaviour, no longer seeing Henri snooping around some random hall of the Château to be something strange. The boy kept a private collection of all the things he'd found in his bedroom, proudly naming them the trophies of his new accomplishment - the ability to see where others couldn't. It was just another thing to boost his already wicked vanity, but as long as Henri drew personal advantages from it, who was he to refute his keen eyes?

There is something about ambition, how it not only propels you but also defines you.
