Grayson Ellis
Name: Grayson Ellis
School: Illvermorny
House: Horned Serpent
Year: First
Status: Muggleborn
Appearance: Grayson is a tall, pale, lanky boy standing at 5'5. He has a head of long, messy, curly, black hair that frames his slim face and reaches his chin, and even his shoulders when he doesn't cut it for long enough. He's ghostly pale, almost abnormally, dark eyebags contrasting his pasty skin. His eyes are a dark brown, almost black.! Personality: Grayson's not much of an outgoing person. He's quiet and reserved, and at times he even seems quite irritable. Even once you get him to talk, he seems awkward and distant, even with how snarky he can be. But eventually, he warms up to people. To the small number of people he's entrusted, he's still quite sarcastic, but he's definitely more open when it comes to talking and joking around.
History: For the majority of his childhood, Grayson was a spectator. Everything seemed to fly past him. Things happened around him as he watched. He was born in a quiet, suburban town in Massachusetts. He had quite a normal upbringing. His father, a man named Thomas Ellis, had a stable job, and his mother, Jamie Ellis, a recently graduated nursing student, had refrained from finding a career to stay home and take care of Grayson. He had friends. He got good grades. Sure, his father was quite hard on him, a bit too hard for a child, but Grayson learned to endure it. And that was how his life was. Until he was eight, at least.
His father was a stern man. Not just towards him, but everybody. Even his mother. The two fought occasionally, but never anything too much. Grayson just drowned it out, like everything else. But they were on thin ice, and it was bound to break eventually. That night the boy had been playing in a football game, a sport he joined his father had convinced him to join. He didn't exactly enjoy it, but he was pretty good at it. His team was losing, and as he looked to the stands, he saw the stern, disappointed eyes of his father. So, as the ball fell into his hands, he ran as fast as he could, as hard as he could. It didn't end well.
Grayson was taken out of the game with a concussion. It really didn't hurt that much, but there wasn't much he could do about it. Sadly, his team lost. He really didn't mind that much. But his father thought otherwise. Sitting in a hospital bed, Grayson stared blankly as his father rambled about how he had been the cause of the team's loss. And that was when the ice broke.
After a loud argument about how hard Thomas had been on the young boy and how he had gone too far, Jamie took her son and left the Ellis household. The young boy and his mother went to stay with a friend for a few months, and once Jamie was able to get back on her feet, the pair moved to San Francisco for a nursing job Jamie was able to land with the help of her friend. It was definitely different for Grayson, and he never really adapted to his new home. The kids around him weren't so friendly either, and he was constantly teased. Grayson eventually just learned to ignore it.
Grayson was a bit of a late bloomer when it came to magic. His first instance was when he was a bit older, nine. He had come home from a particularly bad day, and his bottled-up emotions seemed to snap. He stormed his way to his room, the area around him as he walked by exploding. Papers flying everywhere, the lights flickering. When he made his way to the room the door shut on its own.

ReducioWhen you first lay your eyes on Grayson Ellis, he's probably, well, alone. Whether it be wandering the halls of Illvermony, sitting down for meals, or even back home in San Francisco, it's not a lie to say that the young boy doesn't have many acquaintances.
But once you approach him, try to talk to him, you understand why. There's something terribly off about him, something dreadful surrounding him. A terrible aura radiates from Grayson, one of fear, anger, sadness. Perhaps it's his piercing glare, or the constant scowl he wears on his face. His ghostly paleness and dark eyes don't help much either. Grayson, and everything around him, seems dark and dull. Even when it comes to the boy's sense of fashion, you never catch him wearing anything that isn't on the duller side of the color spectrum.
Even if you gain the ability to push past his physical intimidation, Grayson's personality is just as cold as his outside. The saying, never judge a book by its cover, doesn't quite apply to him. Snappy, sarcastic, and irritable, Grayson makes no attempt to seem nice. He really isn't all bad, he warms up eventually. But he's particularly cautious of who he makes allies with, and it takes more than one casual conversation with him for him to even consider you as an acquaintance. And by then, those who make an actual attempt to talk to him have been scared off by his foul personality.
Perhaps it was something he was born with. Or maybe, he never tried to be friendly, or just gave up trying. Because he used to try, Grayson did. When he was younger. And it worked. He had quite a harsh upbringing, but it wasn't really that bad. Not to the point where he hated life, or anyone, really. Not to the point where he needed to be stone-cold and bitter. He had a good amount of friends, he was smart, and a good kid. He was quite the opposite of how he turned out to be, for his aura seemed to draw others in. But as his world changed around him, he did too.
When he first moved to San Francisco, Grayson never tried to push people away. He wasn't exactly unfriendly or rude, just a bit antisocial. But this didn't work well with his classmates. He was seen as a quiet 'weirdo,' and an easy target for teasing, bullying, and tormenting. This only hardened Grayson further, completely destroying the last little fragments of the charming, friendly boy he once was, and replacing it with a horrible, stone-cold persona. Perhaps subconsciously, it was a method of defense. A desperate attempt to scare off his enemies with intimidation and hatred. But by then, it was too late. The torment never stopped. So instead, Grayson was left with useless hatred, and a cold, intimidating glare.
Grayson never really attempted to 'fix' his personality. He didn't really see the point in making friends anyways. He wasn't hurt or anything when he scared people off. So that's the way he stayed. Even when he made his way to Illvermony. Not many people approached him, at least, not with the intention to be friends. Nobody could quite place a finger on it, what made Grayson so off-putting. What made you want to do everything in your power to try and avoid him. But whatever it was, it was terrible.
