Serena had no idea how she had done it but maybe lady luck was finally favouring her, even if it was only for a few moments. She had managed to hold onto her broom when someone cast a spell on it, gripping it as tightly as she could and even managed to blatch her opponent.

They could do this. The badgers could do this. They were so close! Okay, they were probably like half way but still, that was close enough. It was possible to pull a win out of this!

She exhaled deeply, wiping her sweat off her brow before she leaned forward and continued. It was grossly hot and every part of her hurt. But it was worth it. Flying through the skies for one last time, supporting the house that had supported her over the past seven years one last time... It was all worth it. Win or loss, she just had to do her best. Focus on maintaining the form was lost upon impact of the spell, forcing Xailah to shed the chameleon skin she had assumed. Buying Linda a little extra time came at a cost however, as the elder lioness found herself moving a little slower than before after simultaneously being sent backwards a good few feet. Having to make up distance that had been lost was always a little frustrating, but if she had to take the small loss, so be it. Good thing these were the dilemmas Delta had been designed for. What he lacked in discipline (and at times, accuracy) he made up for with speed.

It was quickly becoming more evident, as more badgers flew past the lions in congregation, that this race was going to be an extremely close one. And although things were not looking the best for Gryffindor now- especially with one of the two leading racers, Ying, being suddenly grounded- there was still a chance for them to make a recovery.
