We believe in an aristocracy, not an aristocracy of power, based upon rank and influence, but an aristocracy of the sensitive, the considerate and the plucky. Our true home is the imagination, and our kingdom is the wide-open world.

Whether you are a poetry connoisseur or a prose novice, a classics master or a history amateur, or simply a budding student of rhetoric, there is a place for you at the Hogwarts Liberal Arts Society, led by Slytherin Charlotte Winfield, as long as you possess passion and curiosity. Upon joining, in your first meeting, you will be selected a code name from classical mythology. We meet every two months at the Courtyard or Room of Requirement, depending on the actual meeting details. You are expected to bring your own parchment and quill. You will be informed of the specific time and locale, as well as a theme, if any and level of formality, by owl. During meetings, you can be prepared to engage in debates, discussions and analysations of history and literature, sharing of your own work and literature you admire. We strongly encourage all members to keep commonplace books and note down observations of the world that they find of interest.

Charlotte "Helen" Winfield [president]
Hateful to me as the gates of Hades is that man who hides one thing in his heart and speaks another.
Archer "Perseus" Duncan [secretary]
That no life lives forever, that dead men rise up never, that even the weariest river, winds somewhere safe to sea.
Kaityln "Athena" Connor [member]
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I— I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.
Brookline "Até" Quinn [member]
Maybe the two different worlds we lived in weren't so different. We saw the same sunset.
Rowan "Ares" Bellegno [member]
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the time of belief, it was the time of unbelief, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair.
Nellie "Persephone" Lam [member]
Beware; for I am fearless, and therefore powerful.
Mia "Hades" Fuzy [member]
Becoming fearless isn’t the point. That’s impossible. It’s learning how to control your fear, and how to be free from it.
Kaito "Hercules" Foxglove [member]
No man, for any considerable period, can wear one face to himself and another to the multitude, without finally getting bewildered as to which may be the true.
Ophelia "Calliope" Northwell [member]
The future was with Fate. The present was our own.
Matilde "Eos" Fionnagan [member]
Why, sometimes, I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.
Minnie "Hermes" Duke [member]
But you don’t have to be part of a group to understand that they’re being mistreated. Justice doesn’t require a membership card. Just a sense of right and wrong.
Simon "Eros" Kincaid [member]
For what it’s worth: it’s never too late or, in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit, stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you’re proud of. If you find out you’re not, I hope you have the courage to start all over again.
AngelFyre “Ceres” McCubbin
Every life is different because you passed this way and touched history.... Listen: being dead is not worse than being alive. It is different, though. You could say the view is larger.
Della "Mneme" Barflield [member]
Seeing ourselves clearly is the project of a lifetime.
Violeta "Aella" Roux [member]
When life itself seems lunatic, who knows where madness lies? Perhaps to be too practical is madness. To surrender dreams — this may be madness. Too much sanity may be madness — and maddest of all: to see life as it is, and not as it should be!
Evpraksiya "Icarus" Vinogradova [member]
...And at the sweetness of his voice, the bloodless spirits wept. Tantalus stopped trying to reach the water; Ixion's wheel stood still; the vultures left Tityus; the Danaids set down their urns and Sisyphus sat on his rock to listen.

1. Do not openly talk about the society. While our club is not secret, we try to keep it within a close group of same-minded people. Share only to those who you deem fit to join.
2. Respect is the key policy. Our club involves numerous occasions to share works of your own and of artists you admire. We expect other members to not mock their work or taste, and in appropriate situations only, spark respectful debate. In addition, respect of your own work is also expected.
3. No discrimination. This is a safe society for any interested member who somehow lain their hands on the invite. Discrimination of blood (or any other type) will not be tolerated.
Consequences: All rule-breakers of (and only of) the club rules would receive warnings. Breakers of school rules will be reported and they will recieve their respective punishments.
Follow all site rules. This should go without saying. Keep every discussion, OOC or IC, PG-13. That is the only OOC Rule.
Consequences: we expect that every member knows the basics of site rules. Breaking them would cause immediate banning.
Friendly Reminder I: We allow for INPCs to join. If you feel as if your INPC is interested in liberal arts, by all means, sign them up and we'll find a slot when they are visiting to hold a meeting. Later contact can be kept through owls and they will be referred to as guests.
Freindly Reminder II: For consistency, we ask you to choose a code name from classical mythology. If you need help, feel free to owl either club leader.

Liberal Arts Society ic
Name: Kaitlyn Connor
Preferred Code Name: Athena
Code Name Reason:
“As each day passes, I feel my mind eclipsing. As a cloud of wisdom fills my brain. Opening my eyes to different tastes and sounds. To different feelings - physical and emotional. To help guide the pen in my hands to write words of glory. Perhaps words of comedy? All words are meant to blend optimism with the different stories that are crafted. Through characters and works of art. Oh, Athena, I thank thee for thy wisdom to craft stories and joy!”
Favourite Literary Quote:
“Two roads diverged in a wood, and I— I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.” - Robert Frost, The Road Not Taken
Reason for Application:
I honestly only just started writing poems since December. I’d like to grow with like-minded individuals, and I’d like to branch off to fiction writing, as well!

Possession of Fake Form?: Yep!
I will maybe create a new character in two months so if it's that, the name will be "Swan Clarke". The nickname would also be Appollo.

STA 8 │ EVA 8 │ STR 6 │ WIS 6 │ ARC 6 │ ACC 7

Liberal Arts Society ic
Name: Kaito Foxglove
Preferred Code Name: Hercules
Code Name Reason: Don Quixote is Kaito's favorite ballet and historical novel. The titular character is what Kaito would describe as a dope, but he finds the innocence of Don Q's madness, as well as the good nature it gives him, intriguing. The adventure that his self-designation of knight errant brings is exciting and both portrayals have caused Kaito to romanticize that era of Spain. While disappointed that code names could only be chosen from classical mythology — he would obviously choose Don Quixote if not — he has decided that Hercules' far-ranging adventures are comparable to Don Q's.
Favourite Literary Quote: "No man, for any considerable period, can wear one face to himself and another to the multitude, without finally getting bewildered as to which may be the true." — The Scarlet Letter, Nathaniel Hawthorne
Reason for Application: Kaito has long been enamored with literature and history in the muggle world. Since discovering that he's a wizard, he lost interest in keeping up with many of his intellectual hobbies, preferring to sleep in or practice magic. He hopes that this club will reconnect him with his love for the liberal arts.

Liberal Arts Society ic
Name: Ophelia Northwell
Preferred Code Name: Calliope
Code Name Reason: She was considered the goddess of music, song, and dance, three things that Ophelia praises almost as much as writing and reading, her preferred passions.
Favourite Literary Quote: "The future was with Fate. The present was our own." ~ Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (The Poison Belt)
Reason for Application: Ophelia prides herself in being a fan of literature. Whether it be writing masterful prose or meaningful poetry, or reading something beautiful enough to make her cry, she is happy to do it. As a quiet person, she doesn't often get to express her feelings through speech, but when she encounters others like her, others who enjoy her interests, she shines.

Liberal Arts Society ic
Name: Matilde O’Fionnagan
Preferred Code Name: Eos
Code Name Reason: Eos is the goddess of the dawn. Matilde is very sunshiny personality wise. The dawn is also associated with youthfulness, which Matilde has plenty of.
Favourite Literary Quote: “Why, sometimes, I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.” — Lewis Carroll, Through the Looking-Glass
Reason for Application: Matilde has been surrounded by art, stories and books her whole life. She loves to read and considers it one of the most important parts of her identity.
