Siobhan looked up at the sound of an unfamiliar voice and felt a small rush of air as a body bent down next to her and began digging through the same dirt she was currently upturning. It wasn't at all an unwelcome surprise, but a surprise it was indeed. Her digging counterpart was dressed in an impeccably crisp white suit which she believed to be quite out of place as the two of them were currently knee and elbow deep in the beds of the Honking Daffodils which where vehemently protesting the upturning of the soils.

She wasn't as taken aback as most would be at the presence that was next to her. He wasn't anyone that she had met before -not that she believed she wouldn't run into someone she knew- but she figured it wouldn't hurt to get to know the boy who was just as enthusiastically digging. It clicked in her mind suddenly that the boy had asked her a question, and she felt compelled to answer him just as excitedly.

"I heard the first clue was hidden among these lovely bulbs! A bhréagach, I'm actually trying to collect some of the flowers." she said as she pocketed one of the unsprouted bulbs into a small pocket crevice in her dress before continuing, "Ó ach le do thoil- I mean- Please don't tell the prefects!" She corrected after her hasty drop into her native language. As she did so she felt her hair tickle her nose and she shook her hair out of her face trying to get it away without rubbing mud on her face. Not that she didn't mind a little dirt, but she didn't want people to assume she was uncouth. Especially at such a beautiful event where people had dressed up so extravagantly.

I wonder if anyone has found the clue yet... Not that I mind digging in the dirt- But I do want to go into the festival though. Siobhan thought to herself as she sat back on her heels and looked towards the entrance of the ball. As she scoured the field, she looked out at the sea of people who had shown up. It was defiently more so than when she had arrived. She vaguely wondered what time it was until she noticed that the proverbial gates had been opened and students were flooding into the ballground area. She turned back into the dirt and began to rearrange some of it in order to appease the poor honking flowers who were absolutely distraught over their patches being torn up. She was nearly done and about to ask the boy in white if he wanted to join her in entering when another voice spoke up behind her. She turned around to see a boy in all black, quite the opposite of the boy next to her, waiting for a justification for their little excavation.

At the comment about their clothing, she smiled happily. She was so pleased that people considered her mother's sewing to be on par with stylish clothes fit for a ball. She adjusted her mask slightly before it fell from her face and turned to answer the boy behind her.

"I'm so excited to actually enter the ball area but to do so we had to find clues ceart? Though now I see I've been distracted and it seems to be the ball has very much opened to all." Siobhan spoke happily as she stood up and dusted off the knee length area of her ball gown of the dirt and soil it had accumulated. She held her hand out to the boy in white with a smile as she spoke once more.

"Happy to meet fellow digging enthusiasts. My name is Siobhan. It's a pleasure to meet you both." Siobhan lilted in her thick Irish accent. She stuck her hand into her pocket once more to count the bulbs that she had pilfered before pointing towards the gates to the ball.

"I'm about to head in there. Did either of you wish to join me?" She asked as her deer like eyes widened behind her mask in curiosity. Wether they followed her around or chose to seperate after was up to them. She was just hoping to make a set of aqcuaintences to know within the future.

Botan was late. Pulling up to the enterance another time with no date, although the last couple times he had ended up with a date. Hoping that it this would work out for him, he strode in and noticed everyone seemed to be looking for something. Everyone seemed to be searching the bushes for something, which he would later find out that they were searching for a key, part of the ball fun. They had to solve puzzles to open the gate, which would lead them into the ball. Botan did not know any of this, so he made his way over to one of the nearest bushes where a group of students, likely firsties, were searching. As he walked up a girl suddenly yelped out in pain. His initial reaction was that he did not care, but this girl was very beautiful, or 美しい, in his native Japanese. He stood there looking at her, frozen. She bumped in to him, but he did not worry. She quickly attempted to apologize, and he stood there with his cold expression staring at her.

"美しい." Utsukushī, beautiful He said. "It is alright." He said in his usual cold tone, little warmth in his eyes."You seem to be in a rush. Meeting someone?" He added. Botan slightly hoped she wasn't, mainly for his own benefit. As his eyes flicked to her hand, before he could think his mouth opened. "Let me help you with your hand." Botan had little medical experience, but the least he could do was walk the girl up to the castle to what was called the hospital wing. He hoped she wouldn't need it though because the ball had just only started.

If the girl accepted his invitation, he would pull her away from the commotion, and gently take her hand in his, examining the wound.

Devon: #8e19d7
Devon flushed a little, as she heard her best friend Alice and her date Basil bickering. While she was normally feeling close to speechless around Basil, this was different. She truthfully had no idea what to say to either of them. ‘I always assumed whenever I found someone to like, be it a girlfriend or a boyfriend, that they would get along with my friends like Alice. Did I do something wrong? Maybe I should have casually invited Alice to watch broom racing practices so she could meet Basil? Or maybe I could have prepared her in some different fashion? I don’t know, he was always so sweet to me. And, I know that he’s shy. I’ve always enjoyed talking to Alice, too. I’m happy to have met Alice before starting Ilvermorny. She’s been sweet to me, too, ever since we met playing soccer.’

Devon glanced at her sandals, fidgeting slightly. The normally extroverted girl remained quiet. A frown formed on her face, along with a brighter flush, when Basil ran away from them. “W-!“ she was about to call out to him, but stopped. She had no idea what to do.

Looking back over at Alice, Devon felt sad. She didn’t want to have to admonish Alice. She wasn’t the type of friend to start fights or anything. “Alice…” she trailed off, unnaturally quiet. “Um. Basil’s my date,” she continued, quietly. “I … um … I won’t make you like him or anything. But, please don’t bicker. I’d rather not see my best friend and my date fight.” Her green eyes glanced off where he ran off to. “I’m going to go find him. I’d love to hang out with you here, too … You’re welcome to come with me, if you’d like,” she flashed Alice a small smile.

Devon walked carefully. There were a lot of other students mulling about, as the gates to the ball were finally opened. Her green eyes spotted Basil by the entrance. She gracefully walked over to him, slowly, unsure of what to say. She opted for a joke … a common theme around most of their interactions. “Why does it seem like I get a physical workout every time I wish to talk to you?” She asked, quietly, a small smile gracing her lips. Be it catching him, flying together, or like now, physically running after him.

Basil turned away as he heard footsteps. Please don't be Devon, Please don't be- Basil's thoughts were interupted by an all to familiar voice. Devon. He thought. Basil turned around to see what he hoped wasn't a sad smile on her lips.
"At least your fit around me." He said quietly. Basil bit his lip. He slowly turned around and moved his hand into hers.
"I am so so sorry. I really didn't mean to run away like that, I just..." Basil trailed off not knowing how to tell Devon that her best friend was being rude to him and he didn't like her. Basil squeezed her hand.
"I know your probably a little made at me but will you please forgive me?" Basil asked her. He took a deep breath then walked closer to her. He put his head onto her shoulder. He wished he knew how to act around Devon. She was always amazing around him.
"I guess you can't take me anywhere huh." He joked half-heartedly. He turned to the ball entrance.
"We should probably go in. See the pretty lights and the hard work from the ball people." The afternoon light hadn't yet faded. He checked his wizard watch. Not a lot of time had gone by so it was still around 4pm. Basil turned his head to look at Devon. She looked very pretty in the light. He realized that they were blocking the entry way and stood up. Offering his hand he smiled.
"Care to join me?" He asked. He hoped they could walk into the ball together.

EmmaLee nodded as Aurélie told her own history and laughed at the other girl's pun as well. "I know Marseille a little. It is a lovely city. We mostly went to the Bay of Biscay on the western coast though. Do you sail?" She asked, tipping her head to the side and smiling wide in curiosity. It would be nice to have a sailing friend along with a French friend. Maybe they could even write to each other. Aurélie seemed like such a nice girl, and so did Amber, who repeated Aurélie's questions of earlier about her accent.

"Ah, yes." She said, a little confused at having to repeat herself. Maybe Amber had been too busy searching to have heard her before. "I was born and lived in France until I was eight." As they began searching and it was clear that the ball was about to officially start once someone found this last box, it was apparently time for the date gossip to begin. She giggled at Amber's question.

"I wouldn't call it a date, but I am meeting a friend here. I am sure 'e is 'ere somewhere but I am 'aving a bit of trouble finding 'im. 'E seems to 'ave slipped away into the crowd somewhere." She said as they rummaged through the lilies. "Are you any of you ladies planning to meet someone?" She asked.

As she turned to continue talking to Kaya, once last howler called out from among the irises causing EmmaLee to raise a curious eyebrow. Well... that didn't make a whole lot of sense, but whatever, at least someone else had thought the same way as the clue writer and allowed them to go inside. Now was her chance to really look for Stephen, begin their night in earnest, and make up for all of her awkwardness this week by acting like her old self again. She was determined to set her feelings aside for their friendship. Not for her family, but for herself.

She squeaked and jumped a little with a newfound excitement and pulled Kaya in a hug before curtsying to Amber and Aurélie. She would be sure to send them letters later because it was wonderful to talk to them and make friends, but now she had significantly more important things to do. "I will see you a bit later Kaya, dear, but I really do want to get inside and find Stephen." She said, as she pulled out from the hug and headed off. "See all you ladies later." She called, waving enthusiastically as she rushed through the now open doors with the other students.

Yasha had made a vague look through the pearl bush and then the lilies and resumed his leaning post against the wall near the door. One more search and the doors would open, then he could flit about for an hour, shaking hands, kissing babies and all that, and then head back to his cabin and read a good book or something else far more entertaining than being here. By the Lord, he hated parties. It all seemed so insignificant and paltry. He used to try and have fun at them, but as rambunctious children grew older, they starting thinking about their future and their manners and refused to do anything more than dance and gossip. Gossip was even less entertaining. He'd rather talk about the weather.

As it was, he had done a great deal of interesting people watching from his post upon the wall. At least that bit was interesting. Some people had decided to forgo the search entirely when they figured out that they need not find their own key and once one person found it, they would all be admitted inside. There was a ruckus in one area involving bees that he was glad he was far away from.

He raised an eyebrow as a few headed over to search the irises. Well, the fluer-de-lis was sometimes mistake for an iris he supposed, but he knew from history lessons that the flower of Florence was the lily. Therefore, he was very surprised, as were probably many, when the howler came from the iris patch. Oh well. He was just glad the whole childish search was over with.

As the door opened, he righted himself and hung at the back until the large river of students was more of a trickle and it was a bit easier to get inside.

Zophyr was beginning to understand now, why this boy was hard to interact with. Why she'd decided he'd be a good challenge. She'd been surprised by his willingness to speak to her, because he'd looked so reluctant to be here. But it wasn't that he wasn't good at being social - it was just that he didn't really care. He didn't say a word at her mention of the bees, just shrugged. And he didn't look her in the eyes once as he introduced himself as Theo. He was about to continue before he got an almost panicked look in his eyes, interrupting himself.

Zophyr had not noticed the snakes, so she had to turn to observe. "Oh, that's cool, she said, his tone of distress lost on her only until she looked at him again. The mask he'd taken off had been hastily replaced. "Do you... dislike snakes?" If he was, as she'd suspected, a Hogwarts student, she hoped he wasn't in that snake house. ...Snakeryth, or Slithery, or something. Speaking of which. "Are those teachers not from your school? Do they not... I don't know, let the students know if a staff member has an animal that could be dangerous?" Her unvoiced question was, how had they gotten those snakes?? She wanted one. Snakes were interesting creatures.

It was then that another howler came along, letting them know the rest of the ball had opened. Zophyr realized she had not introduced herself, and decided against it for the time being. The boy had made it clear how little he cared about this whole event. If she was going to hold herself to the challenge she had set herself, she was not only going to have to get him to stay and go into the actual ball, but also make him enjoy himself, if only a tiny bit.

One at a time. He seemed ready to up and leave right away, so she really had to do something, for fear of losing him. Distract him from the snakes, that was definitely the way to go. But with what? She had no idea what he was interested in - from the look he'd given his mask when it was off, he obviously didn't care about wolves. But she had to say something. Hm; introverts trying to stay away from chaos often liked schoolwork. She could start there. As she ever so slowly started her way towards the gates, she asked, "So... you're a first year, right? What kinds of things do you study at Hogwarts? She hoped the question would keep him following her into the ball. She wasn't going to physically stop him from leaving if he left. But she was sure going to try to get him at least a little invested.

Every bit the reflection of how a member of society ought to act, Evelynn's only experience of the Dralt heir was one of tact and social graces delivered with an ease of practiced speech and dry wit. There was a certain comfort that she had found in that. With the exception of a few slip-ups, she could count on him to maintain decorum, to--generall--follow the expectations that elevated propriety had laid out. It had rules, unspoken though they might have been, and offered exactly the social distance she sought to keep between herself and others. When she didn't have to be the one to ensure that space was maintained, she didn't have to be quite so guarded. She could breathe, and let the music of the conversational dance guide her steps. @Pericles Dralt

So when her jest was met with silence and a slight frown beneath a pair of silver eyes almost vacant to the immediate present, Evelynn found herself shifted to her heels. While she didn't know him well, it wasn't like Dralt to be quite so... Cold wasn't quite the right word, but she wasn't sure how to interpret it. The guile smile that teased her lips faltered slightly at the absense of a response, thoughts immediately and rapidly attempting to reconsider their recent interactions for any way he might have found offense. And then just as equally rapidly, turning to suspicion that perhaps something had happened to leave him compromised in some way. A lump began to rise, occasional but no less notable palpitations plucking a discordant rhythm in her chest. She wouldn't verbalize the slowly growing worry--couldn't verbalize it[/i]. To do so would give it credence, and the present company was not one to support such an inquisition. Still, precious seconds would see her gaze harden, searching between each of his eyes with poorly veiled concern and a tightening of her jaw as she worked to suppress the rising concern.

Until, "You look nice."

Like some sort of incantation, Evelynn's wariness was momentarily disarmed. The rise of a brow over widened eyes replaced the previously scrutinizing gaze. Lips parted, then closed again, the question of confusion caged before it could be unintentionally released. Despite what her reaction to seek repetition would have suggested had she allowed it to be uttered, she had heard him, although part of her wished she hadn't. In retrospect, as the tinge of rouge warmth crept its way over the edge of her high collar and up the length of her neck, the silence had been preferable. At lest then, she could have blamed the oddity of his behaviour on some external influencing force. It was with Salinger's seamless response that Evelynn was able to peel her gaze away from the boy and back down to her, jumping at the opportunity to escape whatever that had been, and once more--whether consciously intentional or not--provisioning Dralt with an unspoken let's just pretend that didn't happen.

Her polite smile returned with the distraction, the bright wonder of the stars reflecting upon those features visible beyond the borders of her mask. Tension fell away from her as conversation returned to a direction expected of the situation. "Decipio, yes," she replied, her tone light with the pleasant surprise at how genuine the question seemed to be. Where many derived a sense of pride that came with renown and the preceding of their own reputations, Evelynn trended towards the opposite side of the spectrum, enjoying her privacy and the position it afforded her to be the one with the information advantage. "That is very kind of you to say, Miss Salinger. As much as I questioned it at the time, the Sorting Hat does seem to have known what it was doing. As so, it seems, it did with the pair of you as well." Wardrobe coincidences had, afterall, extended to more than just their shared celestial theme. Where Evelynn displayed the red and gold of Gryffindor, both Salinger and Dralt had garbed themselves in the blues and silver of their own House. @Aly Salinger

"But I cannot take cr--"

Evelynn's continued thoughts found themselves prematurely cut off as the younger student who had been accompanying Ravenclaw's seeker rejoined the conversation. "Evelynn Decipio, yes," the lioness repeated again, no hint of impatience at having had to do so again. "It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Miss...?" Here, she would pause long enough for the girl to, ideally, give a proper introduction. "And thank you." Smiling gently, fingers lifted to brush their tips briefly along the rim of the mask. "It was a fortuitous find, but really, I cannot take credit for the dress selection." @Rebecca Lark

"A happy coincidence."

"Perhaps to some degree," Evelynn shrugged a brow, glancing over to the Eagle as he spoke up again and deigned to join in on the conversation. "I took your advice with the tailor. You were quite right; they are very skilled, although it was how swiftly they were able to put the design together that impressed me most." Returning her gaze to Salinger, she continued, "And you were right about the sun, though we have the tailor at Gladrag's to blame for that, and.. well.. I quite liked how--"

"MATHIAS PRIDE."

A jolt sent Evelynn spinning her head towards the bellowed accusation of what could only have belonged to a specific individual. Teeth clenched, eyes piercing into the crowd as whirling skirts settled back around her feet. Keen eyes might have noticed a distinct lack of dainty shoes or heels that might traditionally have accompanied her dress, instead noting the pair of well-fitted utility equestrian riding boots the ex-prefect was often seen wearing when out of uniform. It wasn't hard to find the source of the hollering. Sod and muck flew behind the stormfront that was Winnie Harper, in all the typical pink and rose floral glory Evelynn had come to expect of the girl. But it was to the target of her ire that the lioness quickly locked upon, her sharply studious gaze returning as it settled on the personification of one of Hogwarts' most deadly sins. The hair on the back of her neck stood on end, the distinct vision of death clinging to the boy like cobwebs in a desecrated tomb. He made Dralt look like he'd flown too close to the sun, the lack of colour in the entirety of his appearance giving him a distinctly Risen quality.

Ice cold spiders danced their figurative way down the length of Evelynn's spine, an aura of dread rolling slowly over her. Dralt seemed to reflect her sentiments, putting to words what she had only felt in thought. During her earlier turn back towards the other students, a step back had withdrawn her to his side, affording her the opportunity to catch the subtle nod. To her surprised, though, he seemed focused on an area other than Pride and the approach of his vexed girlfriend. Brows furrowed, Evelynn tilted her head towards Dralt to more easily follow the line of his attention. A moment later came the sound of sucking air as she spotted what--or who--he'd seen.

"...He is supposed to be dead," she uttered flatly, referring to an article that the Daily Prophet had printed two years ago. There was an odd emptiness to her tone, its lilting quality cut away by a razor edge that had replaced it. "Do you think they lied?" she wondered loud enough only for those immediately next to her to hear, referring to whoever had directed that article of the Prophet, "Or do you wager he was resurrected by the coven? Though Pride is the one who appears to be dancing with the Reaper." As she spoke, her hands slipped casually into the pockets of her skirt while her eyes began darting around the various faces of the crowd as though searching. "Where there are two, there is usually the third. Have you spied Davenport?" The last question she directed to Dralt, but then addressed the other two as well as she added, "Keep an eye out for anyone acting oddly, and under no circumstance should you allow anyone to kiss you. Set them aflame, if you must. And watch for shadows."

Was that an odd assertion to make? For anyone not aware of the events of the past, absolutely. Was Evelynn dead serious with the command and pyromantic assertion? Without question. Already, fingers curled themselves around the wand within her pocket, mind flipping through the various spells she had been practicing that could possibly prove efficient enough to disable an aggressor. And while the search for Davenport continued--unaware that the girl was long since dead and dealt with--Evelynn's attention split itself towards the professors, curious to know how they would react, if at all.

Aurélie smiled at the question about sailing. "Ah, well, no. I've gone sailing before, but never by myself. I don't know how. If I ever see you in France, maybe you can teach me." Her sailing experience had been a short one, but as she lived near the coast, water recreational activities were plentiful, so she'd never felt as if she'd missed out. Now, however, with the warmth in EmmaLee's voice as she spoke about sailing, she did, just a little. Maybe it would've been a fun hobby, had she fully explored it.

Both Amber and EmmaLee asked if she and Kaya had any dates to the ball. Aurélie shook her head. She hadn't wanted a date. She hadn't wanted to have a fixed friend group to go with either. She was good at floating and finding new friends, and that was what she'd hoped to do at today's masquerade ball.

As another howler erupted, oddly somewhere near the irises, not the lilies, everyone was told that the scavenger hunt, or whatever the activity had been, had finally ended and the real ball would soon begin. Aurélie smiled at that.

EmmaLee announced that she was going into the ball and that she would see them all later. Which was doubtful, though Aurélie wouldn't say that out loud. The other French girl had been nice and probably just wanted to meet her date at the ball. She dipped her head. "See you, EmmaLee."

Around them, more and more people were doing the same thing. Finally taking the opportunity to get inside the ball. I suppose I should go as well. Aurélie turned back to her two remaining companions, Amber and Kaya. She dipped her head to them as well. "I'll go in as well now. Maybe I'll see you both during the ball?" Then she shifted her gaze to Amber, who was her pen pal. "It was wonderful meeting you in person. I hope to keep exchanging letters with you."

With a wave and a smile, she walked away.

Since Mateo and his friends were already, kinda leaving, the ball entrance. They didn't really notice that the last clue had been found, until out of the corner of his eye, Mateo saw people leaving the Quidditch Pitch, which made him realize that the actual entrance to the ball has been opened.

"Guys, the ball is open. I guess we go to the Quidditch Stadium?" Mateo says to his friends.

His friends stopped and saw a door open, so Mateo decided to go over to where the door was. Mateo had no idea who had found the clue, but he knew that it wasn't him. But, hopefully he'll be able to find his date at the ball, otherwise, he'll be spending the whole ball with his friends, and that is what he doesn't want to do.

But, before the group left the Quiddtich Pitch, Mateo's friends dates decided to collect flowers, probably to make flower crowns later, so Mateo waited for them with his friends. Once they were done, Mateo and his friends finally left the Pitch and entered the actual ball.

Mateo began wondering how this ball will turn out. It'll certainly be his first ball outside of Japan, so he hopes it'll be a fun night, and hopefully his date will show up, but he doesn't know, yet.
