Colourful leaves of orange and red danced around the grassy quidditch pitch. The first game of the season was only a few days away, and most days the quidditch pitch was filled with house teams practicing. But June Selwyn had managed to find a gap in the practice schedule. The gap was here, now, on a crisp Monday afternoon where the sun was bright and large fluffy clouds rolled across the autumn sky.
The last time June refereed a game of quidditch, she was roped into doing it by peer (she didn't know how else to classify the girl) Monica Evans. Everything was so different now. June was a broom racer, Monica was a prefect... It was strange how only a few months could bring so much change. Fitting, June supposed, given the current season.
Given June knew a bit more about sports in general now, she felt comfortable opening up another friendly game for students to play. And the crowd that followed was quite the mix.
Of course, wherever June was, @Maggie Hawkins was likely to follow. When her quidditch star (at least in June's eyes) friend signed up, it only made sense for her to captain one of the two teams (which was creatively named "So Good Awesomé Quidditch Team). @Alma Stoll, the girl who rescued June when she was locked in the toilets, was also quick to sign up. Perhaps the bench-warmer for the Hufflepuff team was hungry for some time in the light. June was happy to see @Simon Kincaid's name on the sign up sheet. Despite the confusing beginnings of their relationship, June always was able to find a friendly face in the Hufflepuff prefect. Except when their upcoming broom race happened in the days to come, probably. @André Lebedev completed the trio of badgers on the first team, a sometimes directionally-challenged multilingual first year who was functioning as the team’s keeper. June recognized @Violet Grace from the “welcome” she had helped organize for the new Slytherins, but that didn’t particularly mean June knew the girl. Curious…
June didn’t particularly like @Colin McCoire, captain of "Occary Storm", the second team. He insulted Maggie and June in front of the whole house’s table at the beginning of the year, after all. But, the two were teammates now, and June supposed spending some time together outside of practice wouldn’t be the absolute worst thing. The only things June knew about @Clair Fernandez were that she was a broom racer, she witnessed June’s most embarrassing moment at George Henry’s detention last year, and that McCoire liked to shout her name at the top of his lungs. @Irina Sousa was another one of the small snakes June had, well… “Met” wasn’t exactly the right term to use here, but seen at the beginning of the year at the house welcoming. Bookworm @Ava Winchect seemed to be keen on giving the world of sports a try, and who was June to judge? She had been in the exact same position not too long ago. Rounding off the players was @Lucian Mornstern, yet another first year who seemingly wanted to experience the phenomenon of quidditch.
The teams gathered onto the pitch, and a few minutes of idle chatter went by as June finished thumbing through the rules one last time. When she’d finished, June blew the whistle hanging around her neck (she’d learned from last time). When she’d gotten everyone’s attention, she cleared her throat. “Right, welcome players old and new! I’m hoping for a nice clean game today, alright? I’ve got my broom today, so I’ll be flying around to ensure we have a safe and fair match, so don’t confuse me as a player and smack a bludger my way.” June commanded her broom up into her hand, then looked at the two teams. “Everyone ready?”

Clair was so hyped for this game. She had debated playing quidditch once, but Broom racing was ultimately better for her. But today there was no house pride or points on the line, there was nothing to loose beyond the game. She had signed up as soon as she had saw it, and wholly man, was Clair ready to rock and role. She decided to use her Silver Arrow for this game, mostly because she had used that broom multipole times, whereas she had barely used the other broom which had been gifted to her by her sister, in what Clair saw as a lousy attempt at trying to win her over after belle married the one man Clair was not a fan of.
She joined everyone with a big smile, her hair had been tucked up neatly into a bun so it would stay out of the way. Clair had decided to wear a simple outfit which to people who have strong noses, might smell like a barn. After all if was her barn outfit, Clair was not going to wreck a nice outfit playing the game, no she was going to wreck a barn outfit first.
"Hey guys!" She greeted as she set her broom down on the ground, "you ready to win?"

Body spray: Drakkar noir

I was shaking as I made my way to get a school broom, I hadn't brought one seeing as I made a vow to never look at one. In flying I still touch the ground when in the air. I reached up and brushed my hair out of my face with sweaty palms, why did I even agree to this? Because you need to prove your family wrong, a voice said in the back of my mind, show them you aren't a wuss.
I took a calm breath, I owled Owen and even my father last night asking for advice, of course Owen had to make a joke about sticking my hands to the broom, but both he and dad had useful advice. Keep your head up. Clutch the bat tightly for a good delivery or else you could probably hurt yourself and/or drop the bat. They did also say to be careful, don’t aim to hurt but to distract or knock them off track.
Yeah, I wasn’t taking that on.
When I finally got there, I rummaged through all that was there when I heard someone else enter. With sweaty hands, I grabbed a broom. Run. Suddenly, I shot my head up and looked at the entrance. No one. I could have sworn someone was there. Just as I went to drop my head again, ogle the broom (not the actual one) that almost caused my demise 3 years ago, I smelt wood, wax, books with a hint of… wet dog? I wrinkled my nose.
That’s when I saw her. Irina Sousa.
Her brown curled hair bouncing as she hopped (not literally) in, her presence just radiating sunshine as she beamed, sadly not at me seeing as she was already grinning from ear to ear before she walked in.
"Hullo Irina," I greeted, still crouched on the floor, the broom clutched tightly in my hand and the bat next to me. "What brings y- you here- here?" I asked.
“Playing quidditch! The most amazing game on the planet! Isn’t that obvious? Is that not what you’re doing here?” she asked with a smirk, I flushed at the teasing tone. Of course I was but I got flustered. I’m absolutely killing myself here with nerves, my palms as wet as the River Thames and heart beating faster than a Zouwu and she pops up. Her flawless hair tied in a nice, high ponytail, the brown locks cascading over the bobble.
I cleared my throat and stood up, my knees and hip clicking and I pulled a face. How charming. An 11 (eleven) year old boy clicking like an 111 (one-hundred and eleven) year old man.
"Yes, it is an- an amazing game! It is a little obvious, urm, and I am getting a school broom. I never brought one seeing- seeing as I never planned on playing Quidditch. Colin changed my- my mind two weeks ago," I answered, now stood with the broom in my hand as well as the beaters bat.
I watched as she got her own broom and offered me a smile, she seemed really pumped for this game!
"I hope we win this game! This would be my first ever time playing quidditch," and my first time back on the broom. I better not make a fool out of myself
When Irina was ready, we left for the pitch. "Hey guys!" greeted Clair as she walked on. My nose wrinkled as the smell of barn filtered through, why did Clair smell like a barn.
"Does she smell like a barn to you?" I whispered to Irina. "Like... hay and... and other stuff?"
"You ready to win?" she asked, setting her broom to the ground
Smiling, I held my hand out to her for a high five. "Hell yeah! Lets win this!"
You can do this Lucian. Be brave!

"CLAAAIIIRRR!!!!" Colin cried out as he charged into the quidditch pitch and caught sight the girl he really liked! It was so exciting to be on the same team as her! He'd raced against Ravenclaw last summer, which was a blast, and it would be so much fun playing at her side along with some other good mates! June was already there too as she would be flying as umpire. They were both on the Basilisks together, though June hadn't raced yet. "Hey June!" he called out to her as he passed by where she was studying the rules.
In fact, the whole team, the Occamy Storm, were Slytherin! Clair being the single exception. He was pretty sure a couple of them were werewolves, but he was still sorting out how to approach that problem. Not everyone was like Tes, open about it, and he didn't want to upset anyone.
"Clair!! I'm glad you signed up lassie!" The last few days had been tough on him, what with his asking her to the ball end up being a catastrophic failure on his part. But AngelFyre got him pretty well straightened out, and he decided that it would be best not to mope right. After all, this was supposed to be a fun game! He was actually rather pleasantly surprised as got closer to her. "Whoa! You smell good, Clair! erk! ---" Colin instantly blushed, though he wasn't sure if anyone could tell the difference between blush and ruddy cheeks from running down to the pitch at full speed! "--- I mean! Um! You, er!! It, just, reminds me of home a bit!? Comfortable like!?" He really hoped she wouldn't take him wrong --- one thing he'd learned about life as a werewolf: smells were all wonky now, smells a lot of people hated didn't bother him any more, and a lot of popular smells really got on his nerves!
"Hey you lot! he said to his other team mates. "Clair, that's Luci, Rina, and --- Ava, right! This is Clair. She's bloody brilliant!" Colin blushed again. "She can outfly all of us!" He said proudly, and his eyes sparkled brightly as he did.
"I wrote home and asked Ciarán, me sister, to send some quidditch gear! Have you ever played quidditch before? I haven't. But I reckon no one else has either, so it'll be brilliant fun!" The only quidditch gear Colin actually had with him was his broom, a Silver Arrow, and an old pair of fingerless gloves that were his Da's. Other than that, Colin was bare footed, wearing his battered drab green kilt and a white shirt with the top three buttons missing, an ancient muggle army helmet on his head and, strategically suspended from his belt, a somewhat battered copper gratin pan.

André walked into the quidditch pitch school broom in hand. He was pretty sure that he could do this. It was a quidditch match, although not an official one and the teams were between houses. As well as not as many players in a normal game. He saw a sign up form in his common room so might as well apply right? Dueling was what he wanted to do, but Quidditch would be fun to try out for one day.
He would be playing as the teams keeper, He would hopefully be keeping the other team from scoring any points. Easy enough right? He just had to make sure not to get hit by a deranged bulger, That should be manageable. This would be his first time in a real game. He had been on a broom before, naturally. Who hasn't? Flying was an amazing feeling, Having the wind in your hair and the sun on your skin.
André was dressed in some casual clothing, a white t-shirt with some grass stained bell bottom jeans. Like always he had his dove necklace on. He almost never took it off, when he did he had it fassend safely in his pocket. He commanded his broom up into his hand, and was ready to be off.

Irina couldn't contain her excitement that day! She had spent almost the entire night without sleep thinking about the game and strategizing in her mind. She was just a first year and the only times she ever played Quidditch was with her family at home. Now she'll be playing against official Quidditch players on a real Quidditch Pitch!
She dressed in some comfortable clothes that would also protect her from the chilly autumn weather and in case it decided to change suddenly. She had owled her dad, asking him to send her broom, a Comet 180, after all she would need it sooner than she expected.
Half running half skipping she headed for the Quidditch Pitch. She was getting there when she heard someone at the little broom storage. She thought it would be a good idea to see who was it! Picking through the door she found it was the dark-haired boy named Lucian Mornster? Mornsss…something, whatever! Anyway, she really thought he was nice! So she decided to enter and see if he was needing any help, “Hey Lucian! Need help?” She asked with a beaming smile. "Hullo Irina," he greeted her still crouched choosing his equipment "What brings y- you here- here?" He asked looking at her. Irina gave a small laugh before answering him, “Playing quidditch! The most amazing game on the planet! Isn’t that obvious? Is that not what you’re doing here?” she retorted with a smirk.
Lucian stood up with his broom and Beater bat "Yes, it is an- an amazing game! It is a little obvious, urm, and I am getting a school broom. I never brought one seeing- seeing as I never planned on playing Quidditch. Colin changed my- my mind two weeks ago,". So...was he not a fan of the sport? She looked him up and down, he seemed to be very nervous, she could smell his stress and something else she couldn’t quite figure…but was too familiar, “Yes I hope we win! Its not my first time playing but…I’ve only played with my family at home…it’s nothing like this!” She told him heading the door and walk out to the pitch, “It’s normal to be nervous!” Irina assured him with a wink trying to make him feel more comfortable. She thought about asking why he was feeling like that and why Colin needed to convince him, but another teammate had arrived...she had a...funny scent!
“Hey guys!” She heard a voice coming from behind her, so she turned around to see a beautiful girl with long brown hair and piercing blue eyes. She recognized her of course, even if they had never talked to each other. Clair Fernandez! She had heard that name being called out more times than she could remember! "Hey!!" Irina greeted back with a wide smile. "Does she smell like a barn to you?" Lucian whispered to her "Like... hay and... and other stuff?" Irina wide eyed him, first with a warning to not be rude and then she was surprised...How could he detect that smell on her? It was a slight scent, a normal person wouldn't be able to sense it...she narrowed her eyes at him suspiciously, but when they started talking again and she dropped the subject. "You ready to win?" Clair asked. "Absolutely!!" Irina said excited. She wasn't a good loser anyway, better if she could maintain her good mood!
But then cap had arrived! And he brought loads of equipment with him! His Silver Arrow, like Clair's, fingerless gloves, a muggle old helmet and a copper gratin pan! "Are we going to war Colin? What's with all of that? Going to knock Maggie out of her broom with a pan?" She asked between chuckles. Colin introduced them to Clair and the way he so proudly talked about her and her flying skills, made Irina smile with a glint of happiness in her eyes. She thought it was so kind and sweet of him, the way he blushed and his eyes got brighter being near her. "Yes I've played Quidditch before...with family you see? At my backyard...nothing to do with this! But I'm so happy to be here with you guys!!" Irina answered to him. "Let's make a proper beggining!" She started, while extending her arm with her hand facing down, "For Occamy Storm, one for all and all for one!" If it works for D'Artagnan it can also work for them right?

Although she may not be the best at her sport, Alma was certainly a team player when it came to Quidditch. She loved her teammates, was their biggest cheerleader from the bench, and definitely took initiative when it came to practicing. That’s why, when she saw the sign-up sheet for a friendly Quidditch game, she of course had to put her name down.
Fortunately, June Selwyn was the one who was refereeing the game. She had met June first when the poor girl was stuck in the lavatory and Alma taught her how to pick her first lock. Fond memories. Also lucky for her, Maggie Hawkins was her team captain - an actual Quidditch player, and someone she had met on the train…not so fond memories.
Speaking of the train, she surveyed the other team and noticed their captain was none other than Colin McCoire. They’d first met in the Leaky Cauldron, where…a lot happened actually. Hopefully them having Clair on their team might distract a him a bit and they could get the upper hand. She gave him a little wave and a smile, turning back to her own team.
She didn’t know anyone else, save for maybe Simon Kincaid, the Hufflepuff prefect, who she’d only heard about. She walked a little closer to Maggie to avoid any awkward conversation with new people, giving a big wave and toothy grin to June.──────────────wc - 233

Banner by the amazing Alma Stoll.october 10, 2022.xxxA good chance to prove yourself was always a strong idea in Maggie's mind. Not that she necessarily needed to prove herself in this instance, because she didn't--not to a couple of first year students she'd hardly met before, anyway. When she'd signed up for June's game (because obviously she would: there was no Maggie without June and vice versa), Maggie had reveled in the fact that she seemed to be the only official Quidditch player. Not to toot her own horn or anything, but one Maggie Hawkins had an (unofficial) team captain position in the bag, as well as that home turf advantage she so desperately craved.
The trek onto the field was nothing if not familiar. This was familiar turf, home base, a place Maggie had played on so many times before. There was no doubt in her mind, not a single inkling or shadow, that she might be in trouble when it came to the opposite team. Irina, Ava, and Lucian were new faces to her, dipping their toes into the sky and giving their broomsticks a nice test drive. As she observed the three, trusty broomstick in hand, she couldn't fight back the little smirk. Colin and Clair were more well-known to her, as students her age and well-tenured members of the Hogwarts community. She didn't care much for Colin (which might have been an honest understatement), but Clair had been nothing but kind and welcoming for all the time Maggie had known her, no matter how distantly.
Her own team, she felt, was made up of those she trusted to carry them to victory. While Violet and André were new faces to her, Alma and Simon were not. Simon was a broom racer and fellow prefect, to her knowledge, and Alma was a quidditch benchwarmer salivating for her time in the spotlight. "Evening, dorks," Maggie greeted, gripping her broomstick with her left hand and bringing the right up to huff a warm breath onto, fingers exposed by fingerless woolen gloves. Far too chilly for such attire, but Maggie valued fashion over function. "Can you guys promise me a victory?" Her attention, now, was turned to her own team, authority dripping from every word she said (never mind that Simon was, technically, older than she).mentioning @Alma Stoll, @Simon Kincaid, @Violet Grace, @André Lebedev, @Colin McCoire, @Lucian Mornstern, @Irina Sousa, @Clair Fernandez, @Ava Winchect, @June Selwyn.

Snitches and Sweater Weather

Violet was interested in Quidditch for a while now, mainly because she loved flying, and glory. Although she never played Quidditch before she watched quite a few matches, in Hogwarts’ Official Matches and some others she and her family went to a few times. She grew up wanting to be a part of all of that and be a player. Although other broom flying based magical sports like broom racing also sounded cool, she preferred Quidditch (honestly because it was more popular therefore more glorious when you win).
So when a friendly Quidditch match was announced looking for some players even if they never played before, she really wanted to join in so she signed in. She signed in to be a seeker as that was what she preferred to do and what she thought she would be better with compared to other positions.. So to say she was excited would be an understatement.
When she arrived at the pitch, unfortunately her excitement mixed up with nervousness too, as she never played before, let alone as a seeker. She had no special broom (yet) so she only had her school broom with her. Looking at other players with their brooms made her wish she asked her father for a better broom so she would have more advantage. It was also kind of an upsetting fact that her friends were on the opposite team and she didn’t really know anyone in her own team (although she was glad she wasn’t on the team with Luci)
She hid her nervousness with a more confident body language and manner as she approached her team and said hello to everyone. Immediately after, Maggie showed up. Violet saw her before and knew she was her own house’ prefect.
"Evening, dorks, Can you guys promise me a victory?"
Maggie seemed pretty confident and that made Violet feel better so she gave a thumbs up and said “Hell yeah!” .
Violet had to win this game and prove that she was talented, so maybe even more opportunities would come later.
She will do her best today.
