Slytherin vs. Ravenclaw Fall 2025 broom racing

With Wyatt vanishing in the distance and only her close enough to do anything about it, Dee decided to sacrifice speed for precision. Not that she didn't trust her aim, but when the victory of the entire team was hanging in the balance... well, there was a time for her risk-taking tendencies, but this wasn't it. Slowing down, Dee once again raised her wand; this time, zeroing in on Wyatt. Her Indomitus came clean and precise, striking true - and the Slytherin's broom started bucking violently. Unfortunately, he'd been prepared. Locking his legs around the broomstick with a spell that was, by intent and definition, a curse was certainly an unorthodox way to keep from being thrown off, and it had to be unpleasant. Yet Dee couldn't argue with the result: Even while his broom was violently trying to throw him off, and would certainly would have managed under normal circumstances, Wyatt's cursed legs prevented this, and with it, any benefit that Dee's spell might have had. Cursing under her breath, Dee leaned forwards again to urge her Starsweeper back to speed. The chances for the Ravenclaw team were starting to dwindle down to nothing, and yet... and yet.

Thoughts

Tristan remounts his broom, the pressure to win increasing, until it aches in his chest. There is no other choice but to keep going, but if the team loses this time, Tristan would find himself truly frustrated at himself. He was after all a slight perfectionist, unwilling to make any mistakes if he did not have to. There is no way that he was going to leave Hogwarts without at least one win.

Wyatt’s fingers tightened around his broomstick as he felt the thing begin to jolt in all directions. Luckily, a successful leg-lock kept him securely seated. Still, he felt a little nauseated going into the next stretch, his broom bucking about like a wild horse. He leaned in, his broom picking up enough speed with the lurch despite the jinx.

Bea pushed on, making sure her broom was steady as she flew. She could see Dee and a few others up ahead. She sighed. Wefe they going to win this race? She hoped so. Surely it wouldn't be long now. One of the Slytherin players was leading the pack. Thankfully, most of the other Slytherins were still behind her. It was something at least.

	Pericles threw caution to the wind, reaping as much misfortune as he did speed. While rocketing through the next six units, his broom wavered in protest, throwing off the eagle's meticulously calculated flight path. All it took was an errant sway to smash an unarmored section of leg into a branch he may have otherwise avoided. A throb of pain up his thigh curled the racer's lip. Rattled from its nest by the blow to its tree, a resident Swooping Evil took offense to this trespass, launching from the foliage with violent intention. So preoccupied was Pericles with wrangling his Starsweeper that he overlooked it until its shadow engulfed him. The bird banked hard, rolling then diving, not sparing a backwards glance to determine what winged thing pursued him. Adrenaline rendered him numb to a slap from a twig across his cheek, speed dashing the blood through his hair in an angry red streak. Roused by the scent, the Evil drove on. It was far better adapted to the tight confines of than any broom could be: it slingshot around a branch, using momentum to propel itself teeth-first into his neck, clamping onto the soft skin just behind an ear. An involuntary cry, hoarse and abrupt, echoed Pear's shock through the trees. He batted the brain-eater away with a reflexive backhand. When he burst from the woodline, the flyer could be spied clutching the back of his neck, lying low to become both faster and harder to target. In spite of the albino's bad rapport with heat, he seemed more preoccupied with his injuries than the glaring sun. Venom fogged his mind and cast a dull glaze over his good eye. A loss of memory incurred a loss of intent, blurring his drive to win, lessening the threat of his spellwork. When the fog enveloped him, it served more as a relief than an impairment. Cool mist soothed his stinging wounds and blocked out all external distraction. Pericles' breathing came in shallow pants, alarmed albeit curious towards the gradual dullness of thought. He had evaded Swooping Evils in the past, but was less lucky this time, coming away with a firsthand experience of their venom. It was much like being swallowed by fog. He could forget which way he was going, who he was supposed to strike, or even the fact that he was racing altogether. Absently, he reached to wipe his cheek, only to realize he was further smearing scarlet from his neck. Peri would make an eerie sight to any unlucky enough to cross him in the cloud: bloodied and envenomed, half-mad with wand at the ready, poised to target other racers by sound alone.

"Starkey's teammates aren't so lucky! There's a bottleneck of Slytherin players in the trees, and they aren't flying their best. The swooping evil are feasting well—and it's too much for Slytherin co-captain Gilmour! She's down and out! Let's get the nurse down to the field stat!

"Up front, Starkey is still ahead of the pack, but Nightshade, Gwild, and Prince are right on his broom's tail. He seems fine in the bubble of heat—the pixies go for his wand, but he keeps hold—he seems to know the waterfall is coming and adjusts for the impact—he's through! And Starkey passes the finish line, taking this race home for Slytherin!

"It was a brutal one for everyone; great flying from both teams! Let's hope Madam McLoughlin doesn't get too overwhelmed in the hospital wing today."

Colin saw the smoke way up ahead! Either someone set fire to the track again --- he smiled at the memory that brought up --- or else perhaps it was some desperate plot to send an opposing racer off course! He couldn't tell for sure, but suspected it must be a clever Ravenclaw ploy! And that's when the heat him.

It felt like he was flying through an oven! Talk about a hot dog! He couldn't pant, so all he could do was sweat and fly through the hot air as best he could. The sound of spells being cast came to his quick ears all the same. He reckoned the birbs must be after Wyatt! He was a star flyer, though, and Colin prayed he'd make it through even with the flock of Pigeonclaws on his broomtail!

Usually when the weather was super warm, a nice dip in the cool waters of the lake solved the problem! But today the lake was far away and Colin still had a race to fly. Even if he was in last place. He tried to unbutton his racing gear to get some air flow on his skin, but that only sent him slightly off balance. Just enough hit the narrow passageway at the wrong angle! Colin bounced off the walls like a gobstone sent off course, bonking his shoulders and hips and nearly tipping him tail over head! But at last he righted his broom, and as he exited the passageway, he heard it.

His heart leapt!

The cheering of the spectators. The chants of SLYTHERIN! And best of all, Barfield's beautiful call: "And Starkey passes the finish line, taking this race home for Slytherin!"

	Like a strange bat, Pericles listened intently from the fog, reaching out into the murk by sense alone. His mind honed on motion through the cloud like a spider sensing a disturbance in its web. Above the Evil's throbbing sting and the stink of his own blood in the air, he could hear the telltale rustle of fabric flapping in the sky ahead, drawing the point of his aspen wand. He fired, and didn't wait to hear if he'd hit before laying low on his broom again. But not all was keen. As the venom surged through his system, his mind clouded. Pericles either misheard or forgot that the race was over. He rocketed back into sight at breakneck speed, clearly trying to make up for lost time, bloodied collar the only indicators of his fruitless behavior. Naturally, his long-term sports partner @Dealla Prince would be the one to chase him down. Hearing her approach from behind, Pear had shot a sharp look over his shoulder. He extended an arm, mutely urging her to take his hand, fully intending to alley-oop her into the distance. Only when Dee didn't take it- instead beckoning him to a stop- did the eagle reluctantly slow. His breathing came in short and shallow puffs through his nose, and his mechanical eye had rolled back in his skull, staring at nothing. Pear gave the girl a dazed squint before prompting, "Dee...? Did we win?"
