10th of September

This was one way to start the new year, greeted even now by a poster plastered just as he was walking around the courtyard. Introducing "The Margins Collective". A reading club, well, he was the target audience in that case, a glance at what he was holding even now, proved that much. He took another look over the poster before making a mental note of the date and location for the meeting. 20th of September, at the Great Lake.
"Shall we join too?" he looked a bit at Emris perched on his shoulders as usual. The ferret was going to show up regardless, to be fair, even if Eric didn't bring him along, Emris was making himself welcome and all cozy regardless.
As the date for the meet-up approached, he was getting a bit restless. During his first year, one couldn't say Eric had...joined many clubs. Frankly, the only "friends" he made more or less were Nova, Oliver (ok maybe not friends fully yet), and here and there he interacted with a few other fellow students the same year as him (mostly thanks to the red-head Ravenclaw). Now, the saying of "new year, new me" has been taken a bit seriously. He had made it a bit of a challenge for himself to show up and try to get involved in more clubs...and well, there could be some improvement done, but it was only the beginning, and this opportunity just...showed up out of nowhere.

20th of September

The way to the Great Lake had never been more interesting now. And hell knows he had walked the Hogwarts Grounds plenty last year, but now it was another story altogether. By the time he showed up, people were already there. He recognized a few known faces, though mostly having seen them in passing. Ev, he knew for a bit, they were even study buddies last year so at least there was a familiar face around there. The honey-haired girl next to her was someone he could remember having seen around, especially at the ball last year. Elena, was it? Yeah, pretty sure, especially as the name was on the poster too, but now he had a face to associate with...The rest were unknown to him as the Gryffindor spent a few moments looking around at everyone gathered already. Was he late? It seemed some things had already started. Still, he joined the small group, greeting everyone and going more so towards where Ev and Elena were. "I hope I am not too late, am I?" The way it looked, they were barely starting on introductions.

It was time for the first meeting of the Margins Collection to be held at Hogwarts. Kim had noticed the club's flyer and since it had to do with books, he'd immediately become interested. Solace. Tranquility. Book. Those three words had caught his interest and made him want to come check it out. The first meeting was supposed to be held at the Great Lake. Kim ran a hand through his soft currently BLUE hair. He'd pulled it back and up away from his face, although a few strands descended into his face despite this. For once, Kim was not in his Durmstrang uniform. Perhaps because he didn't feel like putting on many layers of clothing for this meeting.

It had promised relaxation, books, and solace. Kim hoped it could deliver what it had promised. He made his way towards the Great Lake, his enchanted backpack slung over one shoulder. Inside were the usual items he always carried along with a large container filled with tteokbokki Korean fried chicken skewers he'd made earlier that morning. He followed the small signs leading him towards where the meeting was to be held and eventually reached his destination. There were already a large amount of people gathered there which made him hesitant to approach because Kim had never done well with crowds. But he'd have to go forward eventually.

Dressed in a comfortable white knit sweater and a pair of white slacks which went perfectly with his blue hair, Kim kind of gave off the impression of being an angel having descended from above. He noted the embroidered white blankets laid down on the grass and a vast amount of younger years, only a few of which the duelist recognized from afar. Damien, Aodhan's friend, and Pamela, a girl he'd spent time with when she'd gotten lost inside the castle once. Kibล softly hissed into his ear, curled around Kim's neck and shoulders, his favorite position. Kim paused on the outskirts of the area and inclined his head towards Damien and Pam, the ones he knew.

Moving forward, Kim gave Elena a smile, raising a hand into the air to give his trademark greeting. "Yo." He came over to the front of the place and took a seat on one of the embroidered white blankets near Elena. Setting his pack down on the edge, Kim opened it and drew out the container with the Korean street food he had brought with him. "I brought some Korean street food snacks if anyone wants to sample them." He told her and set it down beside the baskets of food Elena had brought for the members. That being said, Kim retired again to his blanket, waiting to see what would happen next. Kibล untwined himself from around his neck.

He dropped off his shoulders and coiled onto the blanket, deciding to slither off into the grass and explore the surrounding areas.

As the seconds ticked away, the place was getting more and more crowed, in such a way the raven started to doubt they were all gathered here for her silly bookclub. A blue-eyed girl with shiny brown locks, whose demeanor reminded her of a blooming flower, or the gentle pattern of waves brushing the shore, was the next to arrive, and settled quietly next to the 'warm-rose-tea' girl - not knowing their names, she did the best she could to distinguish them. Like for her predecessors, Elena smiled and wave, wishing her a warm welcome.

The following face was a familiar one, a dark haired boy with a very clear crimson aura, who evoked dusty books and,, crows ? Dear heaven what was his name. Ethan ? E... Eric !! Eric ? Quickly turning the slight frown that had creased her eyebrows into a charming smile, she nodded, choosing to play it safe by not assuming a name that might be false. They had meet a year prior, at a new year's eve party, and the memory was slightly blurred. She was quite certain he was acquainted with a certain bright pink tornado, but useful details like his name had slipped her mind.

The next arriving had a. snake. hanging loose around his snake, draped like a scarf. Bold fashion choice, she raised an eyebrow, praying no one hear feared reptiles. Nodding back, she thanked him for the sweets, relieved to see she had not attracted solely introverts as fearful as herself in social settings. Remind me what I am doing here, again ?

Taking a deep breath, she glanced Ev's way to give herself courage, and rose to her feet, plastering a bright smile on her face, and trying to look as resembling to a human who knew what to do with his arms as possible. Here goes nothing. "Hi everyone, and welcome" she started, glancing at the little group that had started to form. "I would first like to thank you all for coming here today. This club means a lot to me, and I am delighted to see many people joined it."

"This first reunion is purely informational, you will be given the choice to sign in, or not, at the end of my presentation. As to not bore you, I will try to keep it short, do not hesitate to interrupt me, should you have any questions or remarks." Her voice was surprisingly steady, though one of her hands was shaking slightly. An amused sigh escaped her, as she continued, "As you can see, ted talks are not a hobby of mine, which brings me to my first point : you will not be required to speak in front of everyone, or in general to do anything you do not wish to. As much as I would adore having heated debates about which character was right, about a mysterious cliffhanger... it is first and foremost a place of relaxation, where you can simply choose to read in peace." That item was important to her, as it was one of the main reason why she had avoided clubs during her first year, and she did not wanted to shy anyone away.

"Now, about the practical details of this club. As you may, or may not have seen in the flyers I have posted - I take full blame on my terrible handwriting - there are multiple roles, each will rotate weekly. I will pull a random name out of a bowl, and owl those persons. The nestmaker will help me place and settle everything before the meeting starts. The pagefinder will be charged with the task of presenting a book of their choosing to the group. The quillbearer will help me keep track of what has been discussed, and will organise the next role distribution with me. As to the librarian, I had the idea of making a shared journal, where each week a different person could share their current thoughts on the book they're reading. Again, these are optional, as much as the bookpals."

"Meetings will be held on saturday, same timing, and the location will rotate between here, the library, empty classrooms, perhaps the room of requirement... Up to discussion !"

Feeling her mouth running dry, she took a bottle of water and sipped it, clearing her throat before smiling again. Each item that needed to be discussed defiled in her mind, and she ticked every box, praying she had not forgotten anything. "Any questions ?"

Damien sat down as he watched Elena stand up and go in-front of everyone addressing everyone and getting the meeting started, Damien had to admit she seemed like a good leader as she knew what she was talking about and took charge of a group of people it was quite inspiring to him to see how she lead with a fierce spirt almost while also looking gracefully and beautiful. Once she started to talk about the different roles that they could have and how they will rotate each week and she will pick their names at random out of a bowl to see who gets picked.

He had to admit the different roles sound interesting and unique with their names too. The nest maker was someone who would arrive with her and help set up the area or in this instance the nest then the page finder was someone who will present a book chose to the group. Next was the quillbearer who will help keep track of what all had been discussed in the meetings. He found all of these roles quite interesting as he wouldnโ€™t mind being the nest maker as he enjoyed organizing and setting up for events having experience from helping his mother with her events.

If anyone was to look at Damien face they would see the look of impress as he found all of this impressive as heโ€™s never seen such a well organized book club like this before so he made a mental note to give Elena her props later once the meeting was over as well as give her the painting that he made as a token of his apology from there first meeting. He just hopped that their wouldnโ€™t too many people once the meeting was over as he didnโ€™t want to embarrass himself in front of others or really show off the painting at all.

Alyss Gilmour was running late, and she would forever claim that it wasnโ€™t entirely her fault. The pale pink dress she wore had been stained with the brown of the dirt that she was running on, rushing to get to her best friendโ€™s pride and joy. She had heard and experienced just how much effort Elena was putting into this clubโ€” and Alyss had promised to be present. So why, pray tell, was she attempting to run across the grounds, dirtying a favorite dress of hers? Well, it was somewhat complicated. Actually, wait. Not really.

Alyss had begun getting ready for the meeting, and had done everything properly. She tied a bow into her hair, put on the dress sheโ€™d picked out prior, and snagged a book. Although she wasnโ€™t a super big reader, she wasnโ€™t necessarily opposed to the practice. This merely gave her an excuse to show up to the event run by Elena. Everything was perfect, and she had been about to leave her room to arrive. That was, until she got distracted. You see, Alyssโ€™ attention span was known to be rather short, and it was rather common that she simply didnโ€™t register the urgency of a task until she was so stressed about it that she felt like falling over. This was precisely the case.

Alyss had made the realization that she didnโ€™t have any sort of offering or gift to give to her dearest friend and club organizer. This is why she went hunting through her dorm, searching for where sheโ€™d placed the homemade shawl that sheโ€™d been crocheting over their summer break, specifically with Elena in mind. Alyss had done so for all of her friends, and this was the perfect opportunity to give Elena hers. This was why Alyss was freaking out when she couldnโ€™t find it immediately, and it prompted a search for minutes on end, which felt as though it took forever.

It had been hung on the door handle. Alyss had thought of this beforehand, and hung it on the door handle as to not forget it. And yet, she had managed to forget that sheโ€™d thought ahead. She was immensely angry at herself, but that wasnโ€™t the problem anymore. The problem? The Margins Collective meeting had startedโ€ฆ 3 minutes prior. And so Alyss ran. She sprinted as though her life depended on it, hair tumbling behind her and dress getting slightly dirty due to her increase gait and lack of thoughtfulness regarding the cleanliness of this dress. Her book was clutched in her right hand, and thrown over her left shoulder was the shawl.

As she grew closer to their meeting spot, the cluster of people materialized properly, and Alyss began to slow her breathing as her pace dropped from her run to a quick walk as she rushed to arrive, yet didnโ€™t want to interrupt. Especially as she saw her friend Elena Clark speaking. โ€œโ€ฆit is first and foremost a place of relaxation, where you can simply choose to read in peace.โ€

Alyss listened as she caught her breath, now standing among the other students that had arrived for the club meeting. She nearly squealed aloud at the sight of a real live snake hanging off of someone, but to each their own, she supposed. Alyss just wouldnโ€™t be getting too close to the reptile. After Elena pauses for questions, Alyss allowed for a moment of silence regarding any inquiries by others before striding over to Elenaโ€” and, to her pleasure, Evpraksiya. โ€œIโ€™m so, so sorry Iโ€™m late Lena! And that was amazing! I have no questions, just wanted to hand you this. I know that this club will go wonderfully!โ€ Alyss exclaimed, before offering up the crafted shawl. It was a deep navy blue color, weaved with rather large, fluffy yarn. It had simply called to her whilst purchasing for the year. It was of course completed by a few pale yellow swatches in the shape of four pointed stars, fair easier to crochet than their five pointed counterparts.

โ€œI really hope you like it!โ€ Alyss smiled at Elena, eyes lighting up with happiness that she had made it with seemingly enough time to not be interrupting too much, before turning to study the other participants. The others that obviously stood out to her were Evpraksiya and Mahlioz, both of whom sheโ€™d met and interacted with numerous times before. She sent a wave to Mahlioz, and moved to sit nearby them, while also maintaining a close distance to Evpraksiya, who was seated directly next to Elena. โ€œMahlioz, Evpraksiya! Itโ€™s nice to see you both here.โ€ she smiled, slight redness in her cheeks evidence of her rush to arrive.

It seemed Mahlioz had in fact found the right place, thank the gods. The girl who confirmed herself to be Elena Clark seemed absolutely overjoyed, though Mahlioz wasn't entirely sure why - probably it was the excitement of starting a new club. She immediately struck the fourth year as kind and rather polite, which made them slightly self-conscious (but what else was new?). At the question of their name, they responded, "Right - I'm Mahlioz, Mahlioz Evethisawe, she/they pronouns. It's lovely to meet you too!" She then took a seat near the tree to wait for the beginning of the meeting.

Quite a few people had seen the poster Elena had put up, as it turned out from the number of newcomers. Most Mahlioz didn't even recognize, other than a couple fellow Slytherin Vipers and Kim, a friend of Bailey Glade's, who she did not know well at all. It seemed she was going to have to make some acquaintances, as not a single person here was her friend (yet, she'd say if she was feeling optimistic, but optimism had been a little hard to find recently). But that was alright, most of them seemed friendly enough.

At last, Elena decided to begin the meeting. As it turned out, it was purely an informational one, but there was quite a bit of said information. The blonde girl gave some rules - not having to take part if you didn't feel like it, the club being a place of relaxation (which was definitely something Mahlioz needed), etc. She went on to explain the very organized details that had been on her poster in their shortened forms. The idea of distributing responsibilities differently every week was very interesting, and the Slytherin had to admit the role of pagefinder sounded very appealing - they had way too many books they wanted other people to read.

On top of that, a shared journal and bookpals were another few grand ideas they were very much looking forward to. The more Elena spoke, the more Mahlioz wished it was already next week. Halfway through her speech, however, a familiar face showed up, ever so slightly late - Alyss, finally someone the fourth year considered a friend! Mahlioz grinned even wider (if that was even possible - they were already so excited about the club) and waved back. Alyss already knew Elena and her friend, a blonde girl with a name Mahlioz might have to hear a couple more times before memorizing.

"Nice to see you too, it's been a while!" they responded, before turning back to Elena. "Thank you so much for organizing this, it's obvious you've put a lot of thought into it - I'm way too excited for next week. I did have one question, about the themed ball and themed weeks you mentioned in your poster? Do you have any details for those, or will they come later? I don't mean to pressure, I'm just really curious." And perhaps a little stressed at the idea of another Hogwarts ball. But if it wasn't official, and if it was based around books, well... it was hard to get better than that.

Graci smiled as the golden haired girl in the center of it all waved her over, kindly greeting her. She was immediately at ease, padding her way through the grass to sit on the outskirts of the semi-circle, laying her jacket down so she didn't get grass stains. It was simple things like this, a smile, a wave, a slight breeze in the air, that made Graci the happiest.

This girl- Elena, as she had introduced herself- had also asked her if she was here for the club, but Graci was pretty sure it was more a rhetorical question than anything, but Graci nodded anyway.

Quietly surveying everyone arriving was one of the many enjoyable things about getting there in a timely fashion. People kept coming, some more familiar than others, even a few she recognized from her year, not that she had talked with them before. Unfortunate, really. It seemed she would never be at Hogwarts to meet all the lovely people she wanted to, and had far too much time there to meet the people she didn't.

Someone even had a snake, a fact she found, by simply looking around, most people were slightly shocked by, though not unnerved. Graci personally wasn't a huge fan of snakes, but that was only because she had limited exposure to them, and who didn't fear the unknown? Usually those with a slight death wish.

Elena was very good at speaking in front of groups, perhaps slightly nervous, but Graci herself would have been stuttering at least a little bit through the whole speech. It was admirable, really. This is so well thought out... I'm glad I didn't just dismiss it as yet another poster around. The thought put into it was remarkable, all of the roles intriguing and rather straight forward.

The young Gryffindor had no questions, it was usually quite the same in school, not knowing what you were missing until it was too late. Not that she thought she would now, no, Elena got points across very well. Not having questions also meant she could do more people watching, listening for if anyone else had questions, so she might glean from their resourcefulness.

In the back of her mind, Graci wished Terpsichore was there. The familiar weight of her cat in her lap, but alas, the fur ball was back in London, spending her days in the Gilded Margin's sunlit windows. Oh, but book club is far more interesting than the same window, day in and day out, Graci mentally chided herself.

It seemed that, thankfully, Ophelia had been correct in regards to timing. The meeting had not in fact started, and she wasn't even the last one to arrive. After her, a few others showed up, and she was sure that some would be running even later. It was the nature of larger events and meetings, coming on time was hard and when there was a lot of people, the tardiness seemed to increase, for whatever reason.

But the club leader, fellow Ravenclaw Elena Clark, began when she was ready. The younger girl seemed slightly nervous, but once she began speaking all the nerves seemed to melt away, revealing the hidden confidence that she'd had all along. She spoke about the rules of the club, with clarifications of the information that had been found on the announcements posted around the school.

Thankfully, thankfully, speaking in front of the crowd was not a requirement of this club, a surefire way to win over the Ravenclaw. She'd tried her best these past couple years, tried to get herself to be more involved with the school in the hopes that it would dispel her social anxiety. That was what led her to become a member of Ravenclaw's quidditch team, each and every club that she joined, and, of course, her time spent as a prefect for her house. And yet, old habits die hard, she supposed, for none of it had truly eased her worries. Maybe exposure therapy was not a great idea.

Elena moved on to talk about the various roles that she'd come up with, ones that would rotate each week and were wholly optional. It was clear that she'd put in plenty of thought, time, and effort into the planning of this club, and Ophelia was excited for the results. Often it wasn't the lack of enthusiastic members that was an organisation's undoing, it was the lack of an enthusiastic leader.

As Ophelia had predicted, there were definitely people running more behind than she, for some showed up in the middle of Elena's speaking. She opened the floor for questions, and a member or two seemed ready to voice their thoughts. Ophelia herself was silent, watching. Even if she had a question, which she did not, she wasn't sure she was ready to share just yet.

Feel free to interact! His aversion towards it is only IC.

โ€œHi.โ€

Fuck. How that one simple word was ruining his day. Of course these clubs involved a need to overly socialise. Pushing back his hair one more time, an action that had already grown to be a nervous habit of his, Archer glanced up, slightly bewildered, looking as if he did not quite belong in the world, just like the girl who approached him, who seemed to have led this little group. His hazel eyes were shaded, tinted in a way that almost made him seem mad. He cocked his head at her smile, as if asking what the hell exactly she was smiling about, but said nothing regarding it. โ€œArcher,โ€ he offered plainly, voice almost disinterested as he went back to leaning against the tree, hands playing with his hair โ€” the only constant in this ever revolving mess of a world.

Glad you could make it. As if he was someone to be pitied. As if it was some kind of miracle just for him to show up. Perhaps it was, and perhaps, with his detached nature and his world-hating outlook, it did in fact project that way, but he was no pathetic creature, and he refused to be boxed into that. The wood of the bark dug into his skin, and he wanted to act on impulse to her for her words, so easily angered was he these days. Instead of lashing out, however, he scowled simply, indifferently, and then just shrugged, as if the entire matter was beneath him. He tapped his fingers on his knee, still waiting for her to leave and begin the actual meeting he was here for rather than force him into socialisation and new acquaintances.

Finally, this was beginning. It had better be worth his time and the effort he had spent to drag himself to the weeping willows today. โ€œHiโ€โ€”again, that wordโ€”โ€œEveryone, and welcome.โ€ And so Elena Clark begun, and so the club begun. Archer was unashamed to say he was tuning out for most of her long-winded explanation.

The words that had caught his ears however were the following: nest maker, page finder, and quill bearer, mostly because he had never heard of such combinations in the English language before. He did not interrupt her when she spoke, but afterwards, when she asked for questions, Archer raised one lazy hand, and said, almost spitefully, โ€œI have one.โ€ When one began with โ€œwith all due respectโ€, it was usually because the inquiry lacked said respect, but the question was as much a genuine one as it was an intentional one. He raised a brow, and surely as all eyes were to turn to him, asked, the outsider, โ€œWith all due respect, when do we get to the actual meat of this or will it just be page finder this, nest maker that, and all your useless aesthetics?โ€ At least the code names of the liberal arts club harboured some meaning to the mythology they had planned on studying.

This, on the other hand, was bordering on the fine line of ridiculous. While he understood the first club meeting was meant purely as an informative one, at least they could have conversed on the meaning of literature and when its discussion and perseveration was important. As navy blue eyes would turn his way, surely he was making an imprint in Elena's mind just as much as everyone else's.

Hand still trembling lightly, she felt her vision blur slightly โ€” something that commonly occurred when the terms speech, alone and crowd were used simultaneously, along with other delights such as a floating feeling around her head, a faint buzzing and dizziness. Nevertheless, Elena gripped her guts firmly and kindly asked them to stop acting as though a car was running straight into her, a technique which proved semi-useful.

While in the midst of a inner debate, she noticed a living ray of sunshine arriving at high speed, to whom she flashed a bright smile. Alyss, one of her closest friend and someone she cared for very deeply, had been supportive of her project from the very beginning, and had insisted on being present today, even though she did not share a strong affinity with books, an attention that only embedded her further into the raven's heart. As she finished speaking, Alyss strode closer, apologising for her tardiness. Before she could protest, or even utter a single word, the solar blonde reached for one of the most beautiful piece of craft she had ever seen, and handed it forward. Speechless, Elena delicately seized the shawl, eyes running over every detail โ€” the softness of the yarn, the deep hue of her favourite color, the small stars scattered throughout the design. Tears veiled at the corner of her eyes, and she simply pulled Alyss into a tight hug, beaming, "I adore it. Thank you so much !"

As she hopped back to greet other participants, Elena gently folded her new favourite scarf, setting it neatly aside. A warm, bright amber sensation was spreading from her chest into her entire body โ€” joy, mixed with fondness. Meaningful gifts like such, from people she loved more than herself, were priceless, small tokens of the affection they both shared.

Blinking twice to center herself back into the present moment, she pivoted towards one who had introduced themselves as Mahlioz. "Thank you," she replied, beaming, "I'm looking forward to it too! Regarding your question, the ball is still a hypothesis, just an idea. I'd have to check if I can get the necessary permissions. As for the theme weeks, they will probably take place later in the year! Each week would have a different theme, like "russian literature", "science-fiction", and we would read and discuss books centered around these themes. They would be optional, as I wouldn't want to force anyone to read something, but it would be a fun and entertaining way to discover new books you would have never chose to read otherwise."

Catching her breath, she prayed she had explained everything correctly, for the words seemed to flow without restraint. A gentle breeze blew across the lake, gently stirring the willow leaves above her head. There seemed to be only a few questions or points to clarify, which was often a sign that she had expressed herself intelligibly. A hand shot up, that of a boy who had previously introduced himself as Archerโ€”a boy who had seemed extremely offended by her polite greeting, which Elena was still confused about.

โ€œWith all due respect, when do we get to the actual meat of this or will it just be page finder this, nest maker that, and all your useless aesthetics?โ€

Hmm. Whereas one would be offended, or at the very least hurt by the harshness of his words, Elena simply raised an eyebrow, eyes narrowing before what was probably aimed as an attack. Judging by his aggressiveness, the fact he purposely sat outside of the little circle that had grown rather crowded, and a general impression of his person, she could tell he was looking for a place to debate and argue about philosophy, classic literature and such, something she truly loved but one she was not certain a large part of this gathering would. The point of this club being to offer a peaceful place to read, discuss and exchange, where one could choose what their occupation would be, she had no intention of imposing a debate at each gathering, no matter how much she wished it to.

"As I have said," she started with a smile, pivoting to face him, "this meeting is purely informational. So, while I'm sorry you deem them as vain, these 'useless aesthetics' are roles which are essential parts of the club, ones I must present โ€” though I would agree their names were not chosen for their depths and meaningfulness. Rest assured, we will have plenty of time to discuss about literature and other topics when the meetings actually start." Though her words might come off as sarcastic, she was genuine, tone remaining light despite the clear invitation to banter he had offered. He appeared. Judging. Entirely dissecting every single word she said, and glancing down at each with disdain. An attitude which would rebuke every soul with even a glimpse of common sense, yet one that strangely made her like him. She had a peculiar weakness for hissing cats โ€”her now dear friend @oliver armani had once been an extremely grumpy felineโ€”, and though she would most likely get clawed and biten trying to approach this one, she could not help but be interested.

"So," she resumed, turning back to face the rest of them, "I believe every point I wanted to inform you of has been discussed, and if there are no more questions then I would invite you all to sign in, should you choose to join !"

The leather bounded tome had been laid out on the table, each line asking for name, roles they would be interested in, as well as a signature. Pens were scattered in a toll box next to it, awaiting for eager hands to seize them. Elena sat back down, exhaling a deep breath, content this moment was over.
