─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────Prat's grin stretched wide as he fanned the tickets in his hand, angled slightly in a way where Sio could not possibly miss the fact that he had won more tickets than her. Not exactly a grand victory, but in Prat's head, a win was a win; no matter how small or big.
And if there was anything he adored more than looking good, it was looking good while winning. He lifted his chin smugly, smugness was practically dripping from his posture as he became the very figure of smugness.
Only for his triumph to wilt when he came back to reality. Sio was not in a state where she could witness the show he was putting on with his bragging rights, she genuinely couldn't see him waving the tickets he had won at her.
The smugness soured in his chest like leftover pumpkin. There was no point of winning if the person he was competing against didn't or rather couldn't notice the victory lap. With his lips pressed into a thin line, he folded the tickets with far more force than needed as he shoved them down his pocket. No point being an ass all the time.
Exhaling, he straightened his clothes and redirected his energy. "C’mon farmgirl failure," he said, motioning toward the next booth "we're gonna go hit the snitches now". The sign on the booth read Snitch Snatch as Prat and co made their way towards the new game to be conquered.

────────────────────────────────Siobhan embarrassedly ended up on the ground faster than she had expected. Well- Whatever, she decided. The Basilisk was mechanical and enchanted. Put someone on a real bull and lets see how well they actually survived. Prat had only barely ousted her in terms of time but even so she looked at the measely amount of tickets she had managed to procure in the day.
She felt her heart drop as she thought about how few tickets she had and the prospect of getting her reward of a huggable bear seeming to slip farther and farther away from her. However Siobhan continued to hold her head high as Prat seemed to boast in his own silent way. He was making some sort of gesture but she couldn't figure out what the hell he was trying to do. God he was so aggrevating- Him and his stupid almost double her amount of tickets.
Maybe if he wasn't looking and he happened to drop a few...
No. That was mean and dishonest. He had earned those tickets fair and square and she would never deliberatly steal and cheat to get what she wanted. Siobhan was raised better than that. She wondered if perhaps it was a purchasable item somewhere in the wizarding world. Given that it was a prize option, it had to be manufactured correct? She figured if anything she could ask for help looking through a toy-catalogue around Christmas time.
And then Prat had called her a failure, which only made her shoulders slump more. Aggrogant bastard. He had BARELY remained longer than she had so there wasn't any reason that he should be poking fun at her misstep. Whatever. Hopefully with the Snitch-Snatch game that he had suggested and was leading her towards, she would be able to catch a few.
Overall, she was still having fun. And as rigged as some of these games seemed- she knew that at the end of the day, Carnivals wouldn't run well if people chose not to participate in games. And so, against better judgment, she followed him to the next game hoping that soon she would get some sort of assurement that she could earn a few extra tickets.

Carnival Games

By the amazing Jan Dehoff
𝕽uth was on a roll! Down, down, down the gnomes went, flying back into their respective holes as the mallet came crashing down upon them, the soft rubber resounding a thwack each time. By the time Ruth had pummelled the last gnome, both Mandy (the rock) and the game vendor were gaping at her as the tally showed a brilliant 80. Meanwhile, the Hufflepuff in question stood, panting slightly as she continued to grip onto the mallet with unusual strength. Once the adrenaline wore down and she managed to pry the weapon from her hands, her palms were clammy.
“Mmfh–” Ruth was beginning to say before realising she did still have the cotton candy straw clamped between her teeth. She spat it out into her hand before tossing it into a nearby bin, before turning to Mandy. “Tadaaaa,” she sang, brandishing the freshly awarded tickets. Scooping her up, Ruth bid the vendor goodbye and wandered away, the cotton candy rush still buzzing in her veins. “Do you think I went too hard?” She whispered to the rock as they zig-zagged through the crowd searching for the next game to attack attempt. Ruth hadn’t meant to go all out. However, combined with the thrill of racing against time and the nostalgia of playing something so strikingly similar to Whack-A-Mole, had made her go nuts. She took a glance at Mandy. She didn’t seem too mad. That was good. Sol would have scrutinised her.
Bloody Sol. Goodness knows where the owl snuck off to. He had been doing that a lot lately. Speaking of Muggle games… Not too far off from where the ‘Whack-A-Mole’ stall had been, Ruth could glimpse a couple of students having a go at what looked to be ring toss. Knowing how things worked around the carnival, it probably wasn’t. Instead, a look-alike. Either way, it resembled the carnival game Ruth knew and loved. Thus, she tucked Mandy back into her satchel and ventured closer.
The girl standing before the stall was unfamiliar to Ruth, but it didn’t stop the Hufflepuff from open-mouthedly gaping at her skills as the Japanese(?) girl swiftly slipped diadem after diadem onto sculptures, looking to represent Rowena Ravenclaw. A Ravenclaw-themed stall! As she awaited her turn, Ruth picked up one of the rings–or diadem-look-alikes– provided. The details were immaculately woven to the extent that they really did look like the Ravenclaw diadem. Her admiration was cut short as her turn came by. Well, it was just like ring toss, right? What could go wrong?

Pam watched as her hand-made airplane went flying, bringing back memories of days spent with her father when he taught her to make and fly the paper planes. Really got to thank him for that sometime. Pam grinned as she collected her seventy five tickets, tucking them into the safety of her pouch. I don't know how costly the awards for these would be, but I feel rich rich.
She giggled rather stupidly, turning away in search of her next target, and coming face-to-face with a stall full of cotton candy. Pam's stomach grumbled in response to the lavish sight, and the girl shrugged before stepping up to the bluish pink sugary goodness. She could take a little break. Too much haste might jinx her current streak. Best to not risk it.
She wandered through the crowd, trying to avoid as much contact with sweaty bodies as possible. The morning had been terribly hot, and although the evening had been slightly cooler, in this place where it seemed like the entire world had ended up, it was just as bad.
Another stall caught her eye after a while, the name written in bold letters making her blink because, What's a Streeler? Is that an animal? A bird? Are we stealing animals? Wait no, that can't be legal.
Curiosity brought her up to the game, shoulders dropping as she realised that it was a shell swap game, and they were indeed not stealing birds. What's a Streeler though? Gotta google it at home. She stepped up to the counter, ready to try her luck. How bad could it be right?

"That's not..." Dee blinked at the confused, if well-intentioned, advice, but then just shook her head with a laugh. "My muscles are fine, thank you," she quipped back, flexing her (very meager) biceps just to make Mad laugh again. "Go defend your honour, or more importantly, your beard."
Cheering and jeering were basically the same thing, or so you might think, watching Dee heckle her boyfriend while he walked up to the sword... but she quickly swapped to heckling the carny instead when he proclaimed that Madhup had, by a fraction of an inch, beat her own result. "Oh come on, work with me here!" she yelled over at him, then shook her head, muttering under her breath about male bias as she dragged a very smug Mad over to the Streeler Stealer booth by the elbow.
But then, it seemed her bad luck of constantly losing to her boyfriend was set to continue even in this game. She was smiling, sunny and confident, as she challenged the carny to do his worst, and kept her eyes trained steadily on the Streeler shell as he began to shuffle them, first slow then with increasing speed. This was easy, she had this in the bag - until Mad stepped up behind her to tickle her. She flinched and blinked, for just a second, but it was enough for her to completely lose track of the shell with the main prize, the carny's hand too quick for her eyes. Dee turned to glare at Mad when the shuffling had stopped. "Playing dirty now, are we?" she asked primly, but the glint in her eyes betrayed her amusement. She ended up picking a random shell, crinkling her nose when the result turned out underwhelming. Worse, Madhup, despite her attempt to throw him off by poking pointy fingers into his side and blowing into his ear, ended scoring up better than her. (Skill or luck? Only Mad knew.)
"I can't catch a break," Dee sighed, long-sufferingly. "You choose the next one, mine all backfire. Where are we going?"

CARNIVAL GAMES 28/08/25═════════════════════════════════════════════════════════Rafael’s gaze darted in the direction of the leather-stepping girl’s finger. “Chalice Choice.” The words swam in his mouth, flicking off his tongue. Amusing wordplay, a common sight within the carnival games. However, unlike the previous games he had the privilege to attempt, the name involved a sense of ambiguity and mystery as to what the activity was about.
In the midst of his musings, the blonde girl before him had chosen a separate booth as her target, leaving the young Kraus to his own findings. He blatantly allowed her to leave without offering his thanks, then began to head towards the next game. Summer Camp was befuddling the perception Rafael had of himself. His unwillingness to accept the truth as to why he was approaching ‘Chalice Choice’ made the veracity even more bare. In a slight delusion, he attempted to convince the reasons for his actions as a result of his competitive spirit. Rafael Fietje Kraus was determined to win a fictitious competition.
‘Chalice Choice’ was later revealed to be a booth designed in bursts of sunglow and pitch black, with ten golden cups decorated with intricate engravings beaming up at Rafael. He picked one and held it up, watching the ‘gold’ glint in the sunlight. Though it was not the task, Rafael found himself tracing his thumb over the ornamentation before he dawned with realisation for the game’s title. Setting down the chalice-like goblet, he peered down into the obscured liquid. Unfortunately for the strategist, it was a culminating test of luck. The young Kraus felt slightly aghast at the whole ordeal. It was inconclusive to determine the number of lips that had grazed each rim. Furtively hoping it was not as unhygienic as he had deemed, he grasped the base of one cup and made a futile attempt to rub its lip with his handkerchief. Afterwards, he proceeded to down the unknown liquid, berating himself.
While wiping his mouth clean, Rafael took a swift glance into the now-empty cup, frowning at the sight of a ‘73’ written within. What a terrible number. He may have been more pleased had there been 2 more added to the result.
The game simply didn’t count. Rather than a strategy, players were dependent on their luck. Flukes. He mindlessly stuffed the recent earnings into his pocket, already searching for another game to play to retrieve his former victory. The young Kraus then recalled “Streeler Stealer”, the game he had originally desired to play, only to be driven away by the crowd’s inability to let him concentrate. By now, the obstreperous would have moved on. He walked away from ‘Chalice Choice’, one hand absentmindedly rubbing the pine selvedge of his napkin. After a moment of walking, “Streeler Stealer” emerged from the distance. He quickened his pace.
But she made it first.
Almost immediately, the concocted rivalry between the two that only Rafael acknowledged came crashing down upon the boy. His 204 tickets sagged in his pocket, and the formerly uncreased napkin wrinkled within his grasp. It was not that he despised the company of her; more so, it was undesirable. After all, the girl had stepped on his shoe, costing him his time. But there was also this niggling feeling that told him it was much more than that, that it was his pettiness and utter, immature jealousy of her talents that wrecked his composed temperament. It was a fact he had to concede to.
Rafael refused to be childish. Despite attempting to reason with himself that he should refrain from engaging to avoid conflict, part of him scrutinised this as cowardly. He shouldn’t let a single soul hinder him from his interests, a misstep he had already taken.
He inhaled a breath and tucked his handkerchief away before joining Pamela at the counter, keeping his eyes averted from her turquoise. He restrained himself from registering her presence. He was providing himself with an opportunity to win this round.

┏ ┓ Sleight of hand was an aptitude of Mad's. The Streeler Stealer game was just a fancy version of Thimblerig, something he played with the Durms back at the barracks, and he sported a self-assured smirk as they approached the booth. Antsy as he was for his turn, he couldn't resist toying with Dee during hers. His fingertips danced over her sides and splayed innocently when she wheeled around. "You had a bug." he claimed, laying on a thick innocent accent as if he hadn't built his entire Quidditch reputation around foulplay. When it was his turn at the counter, he stubbornly ignored his girlfriend's attempts at retaliation, mansplaining: "The trick is not to focus on the one. You let your eyes rest so your mind tracks the flow, like a- augh! Your nails are sharp." Most rounds saw him successful, sending him from the booth with a smug look, a fistful of tickets, and an arm slung around Dee's waist. His head shook when she claimed her choices backfired, playfully retorting: "I don't think so. I am having a great time." But competitive as they were, Mad lived for the way Dee lit up when she won something. He passed by areas more up his alley, like the Discombobuladder and Troll Hammer, until he drew her attention to Potion Plop with all the elation of someone seeing cows on a road trip. "Ooh, potions!" Madhup notoriously struggled with anything alchemical, and he didn't yet understand the game's objective, though he tried to sound enthusiastic. Loudly pointing out something relevant to her interests felt like the key to cheering her up. "Think these are real? I could find out...." Unless stopped, he would absolutely have a go at an experimental sip.┗ ┛ Action: Potion Plop - CHALLENGE

What @Asara Fayre lacked in age, she made up for in energy! She wanted to try everything, preferably at once. But since she hadn't figured out how to split herself in two just yet, she settled on the ladder climbing game. Playing it safe was boring, clearly.Asara's gamble paid off - scampering up the ladder like a monkey, she reached the button in record time.Discombobuladder [Challenge: Sta]: [d80: 78] + 12 = 80 Prize TicketsWHACK-A-GNOME
@Lucille Rosenhart was looking to take a breather - after the physical challenge that had been the Discombobuladder, maybe something more relaxed? For example whacking some poor gnomes on the head?Well, maybe she'd approached the whole thing with a bit too much relaxation - her result was meager, but at least she had time to catch her breath.Whack-A-Gnome [Challenge: Eva]: [d80: 10] + 12 = 22 Prize TicketsPOTION PLOP PANIC
Pouting and flirting seemed to be synonymous where @Dealla Prince was concerned - but then, gloating and teasing were also flirting where Dee was concerned. Her boyfriend Madhup seemed happy enough to indulge her though, and led them to a game that seemed made for Dealla - potion themed and reflex-based.And thus, she shone. Not a single potion bottle shattered on the ground, and her cauldron was pleasantly heavy when she set it down to collect her tickets.Potion Plop Panic [Challenge: Eva]: [d80: 72] + 12 = 80 Prize Tickets
After his fair share of winning (and distracting his girlfriend at critical moments), @Madhup Hexum magnanimously decided it was Dealla's time to shine (for now). That potions game seemed perfect for her, he thought - but also, what would those potions taste like?He made a decent showing, collecting most bottles but missing a few, and if he decided to uncork one of the bottles, he'd find a pleasant, sweet and fruit-flavoured lemonade inside.Potion Plop Panic [Challenge: Eva]: [d80: 39] + 12 = 51 Prize TicketsGODRIC'S MIGHT
A gentleman through and through, @Alphonse Toussaint was letting his date win - or so he claimed. Perhaps Godric's Might would give him a chance to show off those sweet sweet Beater muscles?Or perhaps Geneviève was making him weak in the knees - and arms, for his result was rather less than impressive.Godric's Might [Challenge: Str]: [d80: 14] + 14 = 28 Prize TicketsSTREELER STEALER
@Pamela Graham was enjoying herself immensely - old memories, and untold riches in form of the paper tickets she acquired. The next game did not quite live up to her expectations, however (shell swapping rather than catching exotic animals), and perhaps that was why her focus slipped. Her result was less than impressive - but if she asked, the carny would tell her that Streelers were giant colour-changing and very venomous snails!Streeler Stealer [Challenge: Wis]: [d80: 5] + 14 = 19 Prize Tickets
@Rafael Kraus found himself in a bitter rivalry with a girl who didn't seem to be aware he existed. Clearly, he needed to beat her in this shell swap game!He was successful, too, choosing the correct Streeler shell which rewarded him with plenty of tickets. Perhaps now he could gather the courage to actually speak to Pamela...?Streeler Stealer [Challenge: Wis]: [d80: 70] + 13 = 80 Prize TicketsARCANE PLANE
After what he had deemed a resounding success at Potion Plop Panic, @Nicholas Lazarus set his eye on his next prize: Tossing an airplane infused with his magic as far as he could. As a virtuoso with origami paper, this seemed like the perfect game for him.Apparently there was some difference between folding dragons and magical airplanes, though, and his creation sadly trundled towards the ground only a few meters from where he stood.Arcane Plane [Challenge: Arc]: [d80: 25] + 10 = 35 Prize TicketsDIADEM TOSS
@Ruth Fairchild was on a roll indeed! Ladders climbed, gnomes whacked, the next challenge was tossing diadems onto Rowena Ravenclaw's head. And her streak continued! Not much seemed to go wrong for her, and she ended with a nearly perfect score.Diadem Toss [Challenge: Acc]: [d80: 63] + 12 = 75 Prize TicketsSNITCH SNATCH
With his attention pulled into all directions, @Mikey Forville decided to focus on something familiar: Catching Snitches. Quidditch was his sport, this should be a breeze, right?Except perhaps the distractions proved to be too much - the Snitches eluded him today.Snitch Snatch [Challenge: Acc]: [d80: 3] + 12 = 15 Prize Tickets
@Prat Pass was smugness personified, and seemed confident enough that he'd continue this streak in the Snitch Snatch booth. After all, how hard could it be to beat a farmgirl failure?Harder than expected, apparently. A subpar showing, perhaps it was Siobhan's turn to gloat next.Snitch Snatch [Challenge: Acc]: [d80: 15] + 13 = 28 Prize Tickets
@Siobhan McCarthy did not seem to be enjoying herself very much. Eyes on a prize that was slipping out of reach, with a gloating Prat at her side, who could blame her?Good thing she hadn't given up yet! 68 tickets would get her a good step towards her dream bear, and would give her the opportunity to take Prat down a notch.Snitch Snatch [Challenge: Acc]: [d80: 57] + 11 = 68 Prize TicketsOOC Information

Asara was thrilled! Those ladders were easy peasy lemon squeezy. And so much fun! Absolutely thrilling! She got loads of tickets, her poor pockets were near overflowing. A whole 80 of the things! Full points! Those Hogwarts stairs didn't know what was coming for them.
Asara started making her way over to the next ride, not interested in upsetting another poor line manager and eager to get in as much fun as she could. Her tickets were overflowing. Along with the 80 from the ladder challenge, she'd scored 53 from the shell shuffler so she had 133 tickets to stash. It was good thing she'd opted for her many-a-pocket overalls today.
As she carefully stuffed and buttoned down her pockets a rather unfortunate announcement rang out with the toll of a grande bell.
"Here ye merry participants of the Carnival! Last chance at the Carnival! Final chance at the Carnival! Make one last grab for tickets and turn them in for prizes! Here ye younguns! Last chance at the Carnival! Final round at the Carnival! May luck be with ye!"
Asara pouted, her cheeks puffing up like a overstuffed squirrel.
But there was still so much left to do! She wanted to try loads more things. Like the troll hammer, or the potion plop or the whack a gnome!
Oh well. She already knew her next stop would be the bucking basilisk. She'd make one small change of plans. Originally she'd planned on playing it safe and trying her luck on later rides, but now that'd it'd come to this she'd made up her mind.
Asara huffed at herself but quickly calmed herself down. She knew the petting zoo should have been left to later. But it was too late now and she had tickets to win! She was pretty sure she had enough for the slapping gloves but she still wanted to get a toy for her baby sibling. Maybe some chocolate too if there was enough leftover.
She was going to pile her hoard even higher and she was going to have fun doing it!
It was time to test her stamina and throw her all into it! Twas now or never!
Asara patted her pockets, double triple checking her winnings were firmly in place, and wandered over to the Bucking Basilisk ride. Thankfully, the line wasn't very long yet. She'd finished her ladder climb quickly and was already on her way over when the last call came.
Almost as soon as she stepped in line she was called into the tent. Asara gawked at the sight within. It was amazing! The stone ceiling towered above her like a huge cavern. Cracked stone pavement stretched across the ground, covered by a thin layer of water which made the already eery green glow even spookier. At the back sat a frankly ridiculously huge statue of an ancient looking man she was sure was meant to be Slytherin himself. Reaching up into a roof so high she could hardly even see it past the shadows, were great pillars twined with snakes and she once again wished dearly she was the sort who could speak with them.
In the centre of the chamber was her ride and ticket to a fun new toy, a ginormous snake. At a glance it looked almost real but watching it move showed the odd movements of a magical automaton, well crafted as it was. The scales had a metallic sheen and the teeth looked just a little odd. But it was so close. So close it sent a thrill shooting down her spine when the student was flung off and she was ushered up to it.
Asara clambered up its back, the ride manager directing her to grasp onto its great red plume. She giggled at bit, the feather tufts oddly comedic in comparison to all the teeth and scales, but held on tight. She lowered her body, centreing her balance as though she were on the family boat, tangled the feathers around her hands, settled herself into its scaly back. and shouted out.
"I'm ready! Last ride of the day! Don't hold back!"

─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────Prat should've seen it coming a mile away. Every time he let his tongue run ahead of him, things crashed and burned spectacularly, and yet he never seemed to learn, or amend his ways. His so-called talent for shit talking wasn't just bad; it was abysmal in it's entirety, cursed even. And the curse had struck once again, he stared at the twenty-eight measly tickets clutched in his hand, these were the physical embodiments of failure and regret.
Twenty-eight. The number mocked him with every glance, paltry and humiliating beside the neat haul Sio had managed to win. He caught sight of her stack, far larger, and the irony bit deep. He’d strutted in with full confidence, already imagining what prize he might gallantly win, maybe even get her a consolation prize on if she tanked. The thought had amused him earlier; now, it only twisted the knife. Because somehow, impossibly, he had come out the worse of the two.
He adjusted his stance, rolling the tickets between his fingers, lips tugged into a smile that was more sharp than warm. He’d die before letting her see the sting. He'd rather let her believe he still found this funny, and that the outcome hadn’t unsettled him.
