Now she was in the maze.

And Aurora was definitely still woozy. From the heat? from the light? The emotional trauma of narrowly avoiding death by heat literally five minutes ago? Her brain felt like it had been lightly scrambled.

She squinted at the path ahead, suspiciously identical looking corners. Everything looked vaguely familiar and sinister at the same time. It was the same feeling as when she got lost in the grocery store when she was 6 and cannot find her mother.

Either the maze was moving, she was flying in circles, or her own brain gaslighting her. She tried to mentally retrace her steps but it was just all blurry montage of sweat and stress.

Thank you for the banner, Dee!

His luck starting to decrease. His non ending screams turned into chains of painful exclamation. "OUCH!" Some of the thorns cut his his skin superficially, making various sizes of red lines everywhere. His head was also hit by one of the trees in the next unit, making him a bit dizzy. It was a miracle that he still could have a grip on his broom. But that didn't last longer either. After the finish line, Zach didn't know how to stop his broom properly, making him thump and roll forward.

And it was expected of him after the adrenaline rush subsided. The boy cried. "I don't want to play this anymore..." He cry loudly and ugly. Very ugly. He didn't care about winning the race or helping his teammate anymore. He just cried. Hopefully, no one with cameras took his pictures in this state.

	The devastation they former duellists wrought came to an end. Satisfied with the lead they'd gained for their team, @Dealla Prince and Pericles devoted their final efforts in the race to speed, working together to slip through the maze in record time. Sparing a second to peer over his shoulder, the eagle saw not a single soul in their wake. His mind repeatedly replayed how hopeless many of the lions looked at the starting line. Pear found it oddly difficult to enjoy their impending victory, despite his encouraging spiel at the start about it being "less about win and lose than experience". Trying to assuage his thoughts, he coasted close to Dee's side and projected his voice over the screaming wind. "Do you think they'll segment the sport into tiers, like they did with duelling...? Expand the team and divide it by age?" He sounded more guilty than philosophical, and before his tried-and-true sports partner could scold him about going soft on opponents, he preemptively rebutted "Surely you can let me feel a little sorry for them. They only had one upperclassmen, and he's completely mental." Pericles knew the race was over before @Alyssea Brown announced it. The relief was enough to suspend his sympathy, luring out a rare pearly grin, and he raised a triumphant fist as he and Dee once again crossed the finish line side by side. He tried to catch their commentator's eye to mirror her salute before pressing a hand to his heart in a gesture of thanks. The eagle slowed to a stop, scanning the stands in hopes of spying a head of red curls, only to catch sight of poor @Zach Zaphiere bawling on the ground. After a brief indecision- as much as he secretly overwhelmingly wanted to find and celebrate with @Evelynn Decipio, team aftercare won out. Pear swooped to the ground and leapt from his broom, jogging to crouch at the third-year's side. If there was anyone in the crowd snapping photos with an enchanted camera, they would catch a loop of Pericles awkwardly attempting to block Zach's sobbing face from the stands with his armored body. "Don't cry, Zach," he soothed with wand in hand, ready to mend what bumps and scrapes he suffered. "Chin up. You won!"

Got back up only for the race to be over. What was the point then? And a match? You call that a match?! It was a slaughter, they stood no chance from the start and yet they still tried to fight. For what? The humiliation of losing, that's what. Maybe her cousin needs some eyeglasses to see what’s the difference between a proper match and a one-sided battle.

Raizel came to a halt, jumping off of the broom while staring at the track and then where the starting line was. Not much distance she had made, completely behind, just like in her life. Infuriating, she can't even muster the energy to celebrate the win of their opponents for the sake of sportsmanship. What's worse is that feelings were churning, a storm within. As much as she wanted to see Zach, she couldn't. It pained her to know he had crossed the finish line. This was his first race and… he was doing well compared to her. Is this… jealousy?

No!

That couldn't be right. He’s her friend. It felt icky, it just made her feel worse. Can she even call herself his friend now while she is feeling this ugly emotion towards him? Sickening, that's what she is. But she can't help it. Where he is now was where she wanted to be yet she couldn't. Maybe… just maybe… this wasn't for her either. All that's left to try now was Quidditch and she was lucky there, way more lucky than the two sports she had tried before. Looking at the broom she had, she probably doesn't deserve it anymore. It needed a better partner, someone that could bring victory, not someone who is always lagging behind. Maybe it was time to lock it in her trunk and never ride it again. Damn, when did she become a quitter? When you are always losing for 3 years straight, that's going to do something on you. Raizel sighed and in silence, she just left. Not looking back, not looking for her team. She just wants to get out of there.

As much as Dee had enjoyed knocking Gryffindors on their butts, there was something exhilarating about finally being allowed to actually race. Exchanging a delighted smile with Peri, she sped up alongside him, weaving through the maze with ease and not a moment's hesitation. She couldn't spot Brooke and Aurora in the narrow passages, but they must still be in there somewhere, because when they exited the maze, there was no one ahead of them but Zach, just about to pass the finishing line. "Maybe," she replied distractedly at Peri's suggestion to split racing into tiers for juniors and seniors. "I don't think it would... listen, let's discuss this later. Dinner?"

Dee whooped loudly when Zach crossed the finish, her and Peri covering the last stretch side by side, and then followed her friend to the ground, jumping off her broom in a fluid motion before it had fully come to a halt. She giggled at their former team captain's wailing, crouching down next to him and patting his head while Pericles, more solution oriented, got ready for some (honestly minor) healing. "There, there," she said soothingly. "You did great, Zach."

She straightened up a bit after, watching the rest of their team and - finally - the Gryffindors also leave the track, landing in groups or alone. Her gaze snagged on Raizel, and she raised a hand to wave at the girl - signal for her to keep her chin up, maybe - but the Gryffindor seemed to be doing her damnedest to avoid looking in their direction. Frowning, Dee considered whether to holler after her, but decided against it as she watched Raizel stalk off. Perhaps she'd look for her later, instead.
